i'm pretty interested in getting their washes and maybe a select few regular acrylics. I usually stick to Vallejo Game/Model or AK but some times you just want a certain Citadel paint that you can't really find that easily elsewhere.
For the most part seems like a fairly lacklustre paintrange, especially since out here in Canada we don't generally get products outside vallejo and Citadel, at least in my area, so even price wise DR paints will probably end up around the same price, but to be able to get an equivalent to the old agrax earthshade is something I'm very excited for as a Death Guard painter.

So, I just got kicked from the new Wave 2 kickstarter for criticizing the way they handled Tax. There was a small notice at the very bottom of the campaign. They did not apply tax when you pledged, instead they added 20% when you went to the backer portal and were paying for postage. I, as well as many others, were not happy about this and expressed our displeasure in the comments. Instead of talking to me and expaining or sorting the problem. They just fully kicked me from the campaign. This is terrible behaviour from this company. I will never buy these paints again.
I really like how we are getting spoiled now by different paint brands (John's wallet would like a talk with me I guess). Not interested in the range but the fact that GW has now the most possible direct competitor in terms of paint with better formulas and bottles looks like a very good thing for us consumers. Thank for the run down John, great stuff as always!
I am a big fan of your army painting videos. The way you break down a huge challenge into manageable steps and get it done so fast is always great to see!
I got addicted to watching your videos! They are really fun❤ when it comes to a TRIADIC COLOR SCHEME: it means to use 3 colors that lay across from each other on that nice color chart they sent. Like orange with violett and green. Usually variations of one of them for most of the painting/miniature and one just as an accent
You are awesome this was a paint range I was curious about, but just as you said, it didn't say that it did anything extra well. Now I see where their market is. Thank you so much. I love seeing paint range testing.
For the record: 1) Ninjon makes great videos about painting miniatures, 2) Established titles can't actually make you a "Lord" or "Lady" in Scotland. The Lord Lyon King of Arms in Scotland keeps track of all titles in Scotland for the King and this does not make the grade. However, if you buy a couple of bottles of fine Laphroaig whisky they will make you the landowner of a square foot of land on Islay and will pay you a yearly rent of one dram. All you have to do is collect it in person.
A good honest review. I have the whole set here but haven't got around to using them yet, but you can never have enough paints. Oh and I'm sitting here in my Slay the Gray T-shirt, even though you can't spell grey 🤣
Hey Jon, Nice and balanced review of the paint range. You have correctly pointed out the good points as well as the flaws of the paint range. I did not back it myself for the same reasons as you. And I think your analysis is spot on. The paint range is clearly positioned as a direct GW rival, and it is a beginner painter paint set, for people that don't want to bother learning about colour theory and mixing their own colours with pure pigment colours to start with. Oh, they are actually more expensive than Citadel paints. Retail Citadel for 12 ml base/layer paints = 2,75 GBP or +- 239 GBP per litre. Retail Two Thin Coats for 15 ml = 3,95 GBP or +- 263 GBP per litre. So the TTC paints are roughly 13% more expensive in the UK compared to Citadel. That mileage may vary depending on location and currency conversion. But here comes another thing I have to say though. *** Tongue in cheek alert *** *** Wink *** *** Humor mode ON *** As chance wills it, I listened to the latest episode of "Trapped Under Plastic" just before watching this video. In there you were referring to the JH vs. SB "controversy", "drama", call it what you want. So I can't help but wonder whether you should not have disclosed at the beginning of this video, that you are working for Army Painter as part of the paint development team right at this moment... don't you tink? Be aware! SB might be coming for ya! *** Humor mode OFF *** *** Looking straight ahead *** *** Tongue returns to normal spot in mouth *** Keep up the nice work. I really do enjoy your videos.
Bruh, I can't say how much I love your brand. Of the dozens of (quality, lovable) hobby content creatores, yours are the ones I find myself laughing the most on. Excellent humor. Keep on keeping on, my dude.
I'm a begginer , and of course one of the first questions - which paint brand to choose. Now my birthday is approaching and my lady asked me - which set of paint I would like as a BD gift. At first I wanted to choose the megaset from Army Painter ( you get so many colours for a good price, 4,5 stars on Amazon in the UK for most of their smaller paint sets) , but decided to wait at least for a few days, to make a more balanced decision . After reading a lot of forums 2 names interested me, the Pro Acryl and Two Thin Coats. Honestly I went for the Pro Acryl just because the price per ml was better ( new/old 22ml bottles), plus good reviews on the net. And as for the Two Thin Coats the main downsaid rather than the price was the fact that they are a new brand, with limited supplies in Europe, I dont like the idea that I will have any sort of trouble with getting new paints when I need them. And yeah, most ppl recommend to start with just few paints and so on, this is a very progmatic and good advice, the problem with me is - I like to have full range at my disposal, just to overpay for the delivery ( postage) of 1-2 bottles that I will need, and oh I forgot, I need that bottle aswell, you know , I hate it ;D Also i've noted that they had 2 signature collections from 2 artists, before I had no Idea who they were, lol , but now that I've watched some of their videos, in some time I will 100% buy both sets, beautifull colours.
15:36 final thoughts: a lot to like ✅, nice and creamy out of the bottle ✅, thins down well ✅, pleasant matte finish ✅, it tastes pretty good 🤨, goes through the airbrush great ✅, metallics and washes are solid ✅
Thank you! Great video! You've merged paints review and painting tutorial! Clever! Definitely continue with the Slaves to Darkness box. I would like to see how you do the Ogroids.

Ah yes, the age old question "What is Chaos ?¨. IMHO, "The Dice Man" novel (1972) gave us good pointers on how to live a Truly Chaotic™life. Alternatively, you could try surviving the early 21st century, that works too.
While I only started painting minis this year, I looked at many videos on how to paint dragons when I had a dragon mini that I wanted to paint. I tried two different methods, airbrushing the highlight color and then using oil paints to blend and create shadows, and I also tried airbrushing the base layer and then dry brushing everything else the way Artis Opus does wings. The dry brushing method turned out way better. It was faster and easier, and I ended up with a more highly detailed dragon, plus the blends from shadow to light and from one color to another were awesome.
Citadel paint without the faff of transferring them all into dropper bottles. That'll be a big selling point for a lot of people. I'll be sticking to Vallejo though personally.
Dunc's paints are the best I've used yet, and I can't wait till they sell or kick a basing/technical/wash set. I'd buy/back another kit in a heartbeat. There were about 8 to 16 colors I'd like to have had to flesh out the set that I felt were missing but as a first-time product with all the difficulty involved and all the extras that were not required it's a fabulous paint line and I'm happy it popped on my FB feed one day with 2 hrs left for the special. The colors I felt missing I do have in GW and AP, but still looking fwd to the TTC's line growing.
Thanks for informing us about the alternative. If Duncan ends up making painst available outside of UK at reasonable prices I probably will think about switching to those as well.

Rhodes paints is definitely on my bucket list. I've only been in the hobby for a year and a half and have mostly used GW paints with a handful of Vallejo paints. I'm looking to branch out soon to other paints
That topple over near the end gave me flash backs to the old metal jump pack marines, with a great big solid chunk of metal high up on the model, ready to topple over at the slightest whiff of breeze. And it wouldn't be just the once. And the paint would always chip. Though they could be used in an emergency to stun an over-aggressive opponent at a games night...
this will be amazing but in my opinion you should definitely try a heresy world eaters army!! i would love to see how you deal with the white paints, chipping , and all that gloorious blood!
This set looks pretty good for me! I primarily use GW paints because they're simple 'easy to get,' by stopping by my LHS. Unfortunately, the pot system by GW has really caught up to me; all of my paints are starting to dry up and I can't close practically any of the lids! Sure I can clean them, but when most of them have paint filling up the lids, I'll be spending more time cleaning out paint lids than I will ACTUALLY painting! I'll be interested to see the price difference when this set releases. Nice video Jon, thank you!

It's neat but I've been using Vallejo for years. I guess for people who've already started a army with GW paint and need to color match a lower priced version is probably attractive. I will say for those who've never tried them alcohol based Vallejo silver and gold are awesome.
It's good to see the paints are decent, but It's more expensive than GW by about 50%, but has only about 20% more paint. So who is going to buy this apart from enthusiast such as Jon who like to own every single paint but only use 5% of them. In the UK we are looking at £3.95 for 15ml for TTC, compared to £2.75 for 12ml from GW or £2.75 for 17ml of Vallejo. I just find it odd the price was completely glossed over. The value just isn't there.
The price wasn't glossed over. Jon said he was expecting them to be cheaper than the Citadel paints - which is definitely not currently the case in the UK but may well be true overseas once they hit the shelves.

And higher prices.
I am a big fan of your army painting videos. The way you break down a huge challenge into manageable steps and get it done so fast is always great to see!
I got addicted to watching your videos! They are really fun❤
when it comes to a TRIADIC COLOR SCHEME: it means to use 3 colors that lay across from each other on that nice color chart they sent.
I remember back in the day when you'd get like 40 comments and used to read them all. Now look at you over 400. Bravo man. Bravo.
Jon, I really love your skits but this opening skit has to be my favorite. You're a funny guy my man.
my local store just got some of these in. sadly priced higher than GW paints. Might still give them a try if the quality of them is improved.
More expensive than GW??? Da fuq?
For the record: 1) Ninjon makes great videos about painting miniatures, 2) Established titles can't actually make you a "Lord" or "Lady" in Scotland. The Lord Lyon King of Arms in Scotland keeps track of all titles in Scotland for the King and this does not make the grade. However, if you buy a couple of bottles of fine Laphroaig whisky they will make you the landowner of a square foot of land on Islay and will pay you a yearly rent of one dram. All you have to do is collect it in person.
Mind you, planting trees is something we should all encourage.
Make an Emperor's Children army! Could even lean hard into the rock and roll side and 3d print little Amps and Speakers or something fun
A good honest review. I have the whole set here but haven't got around to using them yet, but you can never have enough paints. Oh and I'm sitting here in my Slay the Gray T-shirt, even though you can't spell grey 🤣
Hey Jon,
Nice and balanced review of the paint range.
*** Tongue in cheek alert ***
*** Wink ***
*** Humor mode ON ***
As chance wills it, I listened to the latest episode of "Trapped Under Plastic" just before watching this video.
*** Humor mode OFF ***
*** Looking straight ahead ***
*** Tongue returns to normal spot in mouth ***
Keep up the nice work. I really do enjoy your videos.
Yes , would love to see you paint the rest of the box 😊
Bruh, I can't say how much I love your brand. Of the dozens of (quality, lovable) hobby content creatores, yours are the ones I find myself laughing the most on. Excellent humor. Keep on keeping on, my dude.
Wow, I've been watching your videos for a long time. I think this paint job turnmed out so great. It's one of my favorites that you've done.
Saying this entire video was more or less an Ad for Duncan's Paint, you made it easy to watch. Thank you.
I would like to see how you do the Ogroids.
yeah ive given all my other paints away, i received the full set of duncan paints but didn't start using them until replacements were available. these paints are simply amazing, love the dropper bottles too
Thank you for acknowledging the secret desire of all painters, a set that actually tastes good!
I'm not an amazing painter but have been using TTC since receiving them two months ago and have found them very useful and improved my work.
JON! Question about the colors used for the face! How high up did you go to highlight the face? Just the Gravestone Blue or up to a white?
I've had mine for a while now in Canada. Big fan. I like how they're in sets of 3. And how it gives you a Games Workshop equivalent.
Ah yes, the age old question "What is Chaos ?¨. IMHO, "The Dice Man" novel (1972) gave us good pointers on how to live a Truly Chaotic™life.
Alternatively, you could try surviving the early 21st century, that works too.
I just feel so betrayed - at 3:38 we're told there'll be no further airbrush. Nek minnit, at 14:36, we're straight back to the airbrush!
I'd LOVE to see your take on skaven. Not necessarily an army, a few minis would be just fine.
A good and well balanced review Jon. Thank you. I too will look for these as they become available online.
I love your style - no "this paint is so awesome and does something new", but a cultural and nice review. Top level, Jon, as usual!
Citadel paint without the faff of transferring them all into dropper bottles. That'll be a big selling point for a lot of people. I'll be sticking to Vallejo though personally.
Now I want to see a Masterclass for this paint job. Amazing!
I would love to see your Take on the Daughter’s of Khaine. I just picked up a good amount of them cause their lore sucked me in and I love the snake ladies
How do you get your hands on these paints nowadays? You can't pledge anymore on kickstarter and it seems nowhere in Canada carries them.
Love the way you beguile us in your videos its almost like take that comfortable squat letting go a load… just feels right, like your vids. New fan here and cant wait for more.
There are so many cool-looking factions with the new AoS sets. I'd like to see your take on that ghost army. Thank you for the video, as well. While I am perfectly content with my Army Painter speedpainted models, it is really cool to see your Golden Demon-level projects.
Wow! Look at how Ninjohn paints! Wish I could paint like that. Been painting for 20 years now and nowhere even close to something like that
Great point about color triads a company that dose offer that is the Airbrush paints from Army Painter and I'm sure there are others out there.
It resulted so nice. Especially the red gore base followed with light bluish gray. Will definitely try it
I had the pleasure to test some of Duncan's paints at youmacon this year and by God they were amazing
I'm happy to hear you feel the same about painting wings hahaha. I love the build up from a warm colour to a cool colour; I'm a sucker for juxtaposition.
Just waiting for Double Lord Ninjon to make a video about the new Army Painter Speedpaints and what they sent him... Every other UA-camr seems so jazzed to be part of it.
You did an exceptional job! The color scheme is very good and I really like the base! I would love to see you paint the rest of the box!
15:10 at the exact moment you said "Oh God" I accidentally let go of the paint pot I was shaking. Luckily as you pointed out, nothing broke, we're good. I never realized that your videos were a live commentary of my life, well done
Nice to hear an unbiased review from a good painter. Thanks for sharing you thoughts and big thanks to your buddy for lending the paints to you. I’m curious how long it will be before they can be found in retail.
Man, I have been looking at getting the GW paints in dropper bottles, can't wait until you can buy these so I can try them out!
Wayland Games in the UK has them for sale.
I'd love to see another Ninjon army project. It's been a hot minute since Ninjon cranked out a full army in times that make the lot of us envious.
I would love to see your take on painting a ravenguard army
I say keep going with the box set. I love your art style and humor so watching your videos is super easy.
Love that video ! I would like to see you paint the rest of the box, it seems a great idea and the models are great too ! I also really would like to see your take on some Sylvaneths, maybe with ink/heavy washes techniques, or anything you'd like in fact, your content is always so great and so interesting. Thank you for your video !
Duncan is a real one.
He wont lie or over hype his product.
He just deliver.
Next time I play any of my friends chaos factions I'm going to be using that intro idea! haha. Great video as always, thanks for the honest feedback about the TTC paints and your demon prince looks amazing. Look forward to seeing what's coming next week also! :)
@@zerohonour3940 The company that makes the paints is called Transatlantic games, and they are situated in Liverpool. The lowest price in real terms that they will be anywhere in the world is the UK itself. It's not gonna come down by 25% after being exported to the US or Australia or wherever. There is enough evidence to say "these paints are probably going to be some of the most expensive you can buy in the mini space".
@@hughwoodford Are you sure the paints are literally produced in Liverpool? I was under the impression that's just a business address.
@@zerohonour3940 I don't know for sure, but considering it is already in UK stores I would assume so give our current international predicament (difficulty in exporting new goods because of Brexit) it all lines up. Can't be 100% tho
Good point. I’ve just ordered a few - couldn’t afford many at that price, even slightly discounted - so I hope they’re good.
Yes!!! Please do a huge Slaves to Darkness army painting challenge. Like a 24 hour, or one weekend painting challenge again. Love those!
