I'm a begginer , and of course one of the first questions - which paint brand to choose. Now my birthday is approaching and my lady asked me - which set of paint I would like as a BD gift. At first I wanted to choose the megaset from Army Painter ( you get so many colours for a good price, 4,5 stars on Amazon in the UK for most of their smaller paint sets) , but decided to wait at least for a few days, to make a more balanced decision . After reading a lot of forums 2 names interested me, the Pro Acryl and Two Thin Coats. Honestly I went for the Pro Acryl just because the price per ml was better ( new/old 22ml bottles), plus good reviews on the net. And as for the Two Thin Coats the main downsaid rather than the price was the fact that they are a new brand, with limited supplies in Europe, I dont like the idea that I will have any sort of trouble with getting new paints when I need them. And yeah, most ppl recommend to start with just few paints and so on, this is a very progmatic and good advice, the problem with me is - I like to have full range at my disposal, just to overpay for the delivery ( postage) of 1-2 bottles that I will need, and oh I forgot, I need that bottle aswell, you know , I hate it ;D Also i've noted that they had 2 signature collections from 2 artists, before I had no Idea who they were, lol , but now that I've watched some of their videos, in some time I will 100% buy both sets, beautifull colours.
Man I was wondering when your next video was coming out. So far you are my favorite painter on UA-cam. Watching your videos has been helping me improve
It's nice to see a more affordable paint line that is using colors matched to Games Workshop, this will give WH mini painters more options. Plus it does seem like a nice line of paints. Personally going to stick with my favorites, but this looks good for folks just starting out too as they are nice dropper bottles, and the colors seem spot on.
I am a big fan of your army painting videos. The way you break down a huge challenge into manageable steps and get it done so fast is always great to see!
Thanks for informing us about the alternative. If Duncan ends up making painst available outside of UK at reasonable prices I probably will think about switching to those as well.
Do not be duped by those bogus "Scottish Title" certificates. You are not known as a lord or lady, there is no ancient Scottish custom, and you certainly do NOT own any land! See Section 22 of the Land Registration (Scotland) Act 2012 which specifically precludes the registration of souvenir plots, and in Scotland if the plot isn't registered in your name you do not own it. All you are paying for is a made up title that no one will recognise and a fancy bit of paper that has no legal meaning.
While I only started painting minis this year, I looked at many videos on how to paint dragons when I had a dragon mini that I wanted to paint. I tried two different methods, airbrushing the highlight color and then using oil paints to blend and create shadows, and I also tried airbrushing the base layer and then dry brushing everything else the way Artis Opus does wings. The dry brushing method turned out way better. It was faster and easier, and I ended up with a more highly detailed dragon, plus the blends from shadow to light and from one color to another were awesome.
i'm pretty interested in getting their washes and maybe a select few regular acrylics. I usually stick to Vallejo Game/Model or AK but some times you just want a certain Citadel paint that you can't really find that easily elsewhere.
Thank you! Great video! You've merged paints review and painting tutorial! Clever! Definitely continue with the Slaves to Darkness box. I would like to see how you do the Ogroids.

I got addicted to watching your videos! They are really fun❤ when it comes to a TRIADIC COLOR SCHEME: it means to use 3 colors that lay across from each other on that nice color chart they sent. Like orange with violett and green. Usually variations of one of them for most of the painting/miniature and one just as an accent
Love the way you beguile us in your videos its almost like take that comfortable squat letting go a load… just feels right, like your vids. New fan here and cant wait for more.
Dunc's paints are the best I've used yet, and I can't wait till they sell or kick a basing/technical/wash set. I'd buy/back another kit in a heartbeat. There were about 8 to 16 colors I'd like to have had to flesh out the set that I felt were missing but as a first-time product with all the difficulty involved and all the extras that were not required it's a fabulous paint line and I'm happy it popped on my FB feed one day with 2 hrs left for the special. The colors I felt missing I do have in GW and AP, but still looking fwd to the TTC's line growing.
Would love to see a Tyranid model - I always see the same color schemes, but not many techniques on more organic style creature which you have done. Would like to see how you go about painting a bug.
Hey Jon, Nice and balanced review of the paint range. You have correctly pointed out the good points as well as the flaws of the paint range. I did not back it myself for the same reasons as you. And I think your analysis is spot on. The paint range is clearly positioned as a direct GW rival, and it is a beginner painter paint set, for people that don't want to bother learning about colour theory and mixing their own colours with pure pigment colours to start with. Oh, they are actually more expensive than Citadel paints. Retail Citadel for 12 ml base/layer paints = 2,75 GBP or +- 239 GBP per litre. Retail Two Thin Coats for 15 ml = 3,95 GBP or +- 263 GBP per litre. So the TTC paints are roughly 13% more expensive in the UK compared to Citadel. That mileage may vary depending on location and currency conversion. But here comes another thing I have to say though. *** Tongue in cheek alert *** *** Wink *** *** Humor mode ON *** As chance wills it, I listened to the latest episode of "Trapped Under Plastic" just before watching this video. In there you were referring to the JH vs. SB "controversy", "drama", call it what you want. So I can't help but wonder whether you should not have disclosed at the beginning of this video, that you are working for Army Painter as part of the paint development team right at this moment... don't you tink? Be aware! SB might be coming for ya! *** Humor mode OFF *** *** Looking straight ahead *** *** Tongue returns to normal spot in mouth *** Keep up the nice work. I really do enjoy your videos.
That topple over near the end gave me flash backs to the old metal jump pack marines, with a great big solid chunk of metal high up on the model, ready to topple over at the slightest whiff of breeze. And it wouldn't be just the once. And the paint would always chip. Though they could be used in an emergency to stun an over-aggressive opponent at a games night...
Hey Ninjon! A big fan here! Thank you for your job and motivation for the lovely hobby painting is. Could you do a mini tutorial of how to change the citadel paints into the bottles of the Vallejo kind? Cheers from Spain!

when it comes to a TRIADIC COLOR SCHEME: it means to use 3 colors that lay across from each other on that nice color chart they sent. Like orange with violett and green. Usually variations of one of them for most of the painting/miniature and one just as an accent
Love the way you beguile us in your videos its almost like take that comfortable squat letting go a load… just feels right, like your vids. New fan here and cant wait for more.
The energetic music in the intro was very exciting and I listened to it and it got me excited so I'm excited now.
thanks .. always enjoy the painting videos - and the review of TTC is handy too!
Wow! Look at how Ninjohn paints! Wish I could paint like that. Been painting for 20 years now and nowhere even close to something like that
How do you get your hands on these paints nowadays? You can't pledge anymore on kickstarter and it seems nowhere in Canada carries them.
Hey why do you say that triad sequences doesn't work?🤔 Were those incorrectly "bundled" together or something?
I'll be waiting for next weeks video. and Thank you for this one, you gave us a nice, impartial opinion about the 6paints.
Hey Jon,
Nice and balanced review of the paint range.
*** Tongue in cheek alert ***
*** Wink ***
*** Humor mode ON ***
As chance wills it, I listened to the latest episode of "Trapped Under Plastic" just before watching this video.
*** Humor mode OFF ***
*** Looking straight ahead ***
*** Tongue returns to normal spot in mouth ***
Keep up the nice work. I really do enjoy your videos.
Need to add little bitty thin mint boxes to all of my Nurgle army.....
You did an exceptional job! The color scheme is very good and I really like the base! I would love to see you paint the rest of the box!
I’m just starting out painting, I have a mix of army painter and GW paints starting to fill up a drawers on my desk, would it be worth spending the 200 dollars on 60 paints when I run threw most of what I have?
I appreciate the lengths you go to in testing, I always need to know how they taste as well.

Thank you Lord² Jon! For both, the honest review of this paint range and for how to become a Lord.
I had the pleasure to test some of Duncan's paints at youmacon this year and by God they were amazing
I'm so chaotic I don't know what I'm going to have for lunch today!
Relateable.
The choice of paints, inks, washes, glazes, contrasts and weathering products is, for someone returning to the hobby, overwhelming.
I'd love to see another Ninjon army project. It's been a hot minute since Ninjon cranked out a full army in times that make the lot of us envious.
I'm subscribing because i'm enjoying the brief sections where the music feels like i'm watching Beverly Hills cop. Damn you nostalgia triggers. Content is good too.
Oh wow, i think im convinced! once my GW paint is finished im moving to these! Dropper bottles for the win and still the same colors as GW! YAY :D
Now I want to see a Masterclass for this paint job. Amazing!
Great video as always and the sweet 80's style montage music was a nice touch.
I really love watching your videos, you even found a way to make showing wet blending easy enough I’m not scared to try it one of these days. As far as what Army I’d like to see you paint next: does it have to be GW? Because I’d really love to see your take on Saurian Starhost models from OnePageRules’ Grimdark Future. Or some Ratmen from their Age of Fantasy range. Thanks for the great content, it’s much appreciated!
I'd LOVE to see your take on skaven. Not necessarily an army, a few minis would be just fine.
Thank you for acknowledging the secret desire of all painters, a set that actually tastes good!
This fantastic! Congratulations guys you work so hard. The only thing that would make me happier would be a cameo from bone playing against jinx. That would be so funny 😁
Nice to hear an unbiased review from a good painter. Thanks for sharing you thoughts and big thanks to your buddy for lending the paints to you. I’m curious how long it will be before they can be found in retail.
I just Drybrush wings and it worked for me
Yes! Please do a Slaves to Darkness army. I really love the new Chosen models and absolutely adore all the different paint schemes people do on them and I'd love to see yours
CADIA STANDS!!! I also caught that you said that they taste pretty good. Good stuff Jon. Keep it coming.
“It tastes pretty good”. Finally the paint review we always wanted
Really cool skin tone on the daemon prince. Love the warm colors with the grey skin!
Rhodes paints is definitely on my bucket list. I've only been in the hobby for a year and a half and have mostly used GW paints with a handful of Vallejo paints. I'm looking to branch out soon to other paints
Is there a reason I would buy these paints over Vallejo or Army painter paints? As a color match for GW at a fraction of the price I see the appeal but I've already started shifting over to other brands.
I say keep going with the box set. I love your art style and humor so watching your videos is super easy.
