What we need is Darrell’s take on the lore. That way you can get on with modelling and Darrell can deconstruct the lore with his chain spear: a perfect solution for everyone.
I'll definitely cash app some R&D $$ for Darrells upgrade of his chain spear to get a flame thrower. Because of course some enemies have wierd creatures, putrid/corrosive liquids and semi autonomous bio functions that can be rendered safe to dismember/disembowel once they've been seared/toasted
@@Exidous96 I know that I saw something like this in a zombie movie somewhere :) And it make sense, you want to keep the cuddly zombies at a distance while giving them ventilation holes.... but they still smell :(
I like watching you Ninjon doing your own thing, or your own take of army painters/colour schemes. It's refreshing to see something different and getting good painting tips. You've also made some very unique videos and kit bashed mini's. Would love to see more custom stuff. Or just you painting the Primarch's, like you did with Konrad of the Night Lords, absolutely the best paint job take on Konrad I've ever seen, with all the gory details and lightning highlights on the armour. Just you having fun with it, or going crazy with a miniature is entertaining to watch. Like we can tell if you're bored of something, I'm just encouraging that beyond what gets the most views, just do videos on things you like and enjoy. If you're having fun, it's more fun for us to watch. Take care dooode :D
I love kitbashing, I love your channel and seeing your creativity on so many levels was so cool, and to see and to see how many tools you brought to the project I feel like I got my money's worth from the video even though watching it for free.
Jon, thanks so much for joining with us on this. Everyone involved in this effort really appreciates your belief in what we're doing, and your generosity with the help you've given has been awesome. Thanks from all of us!
To answer all your questions, yes! "Grimdark" is the painting style I aspire too and the first thing I think of when wanting to paint a cool model, I like the military modelling style weathered and realistic paintjobs as, for me, they give so much life to a model. The Grimdark Compendium is one of my favourite youtube channels, full of useful tips and tricks and advice.
Grimdark Compendium is indeed very good. Seems like the channel was one of the first on youtube to use a lot of these techniques and products, but doesn't get a lot of credit/recognition.
Answers to questions 1. Grim dark is good 2. I like when you paint grim dark 3. I very much like when you kitbash and paint a project, more of this please What I would have loved though is to get longer shots of the finished model with a slower turn table. After watching the whole video, with each layer and stage, I want to drink in the final piece of art. Have some time to take in every little details.
This was super cool! I really enjoy watching the kitbashing videos a lot because that is how I found your channel to begin with! When it comes to the painting style, grimdark horror like this is definitely my favorite but just use whatever you feel fits the build the best!
Same here! an d I must recognise I have more fun painting chaos or Tyranids than marines or skitaris or Necrons. Orks are different but chaos are the most fun to paint. And Kitbashing is the mos t interesting content because it is unique, that's why your channel and Erick ´s are my favorites.
I love the Grimdark style and LOVE when you do kitbashes and painting videos of those Kitbashes. The gnarly kitbashed undead leviathan flotsam monster you kitbashed remains one of, if not my favorite video you've done recently.
This is one of my favorite videos. Kick ass funny intro. Love grim dark tutorials. Love custom conversions. I paint grim dark b/c I'm always leaning to dark colors. I find the process very therapeutic. Its like cutting a bonsai tree. There is a balance you need to do but, if you mess up it still looks good! Win WIN in my book.
I absolutely loved this video. Yes, I like grimdark. Yes, I like watching you paint in the grimdark style. Yes, I like watching the progression from kitbash build through finished paint. Please do more of this, and thank you for all the fun, humble, accessible, positive content! You're doing great.
You may not read this, but here it goes. I like when you do both. I'm newish to the hobby and I'm looking for ideas, and these types of vids are perfect for that
I loved the previous kitbash video and this one, grimdark paint schemes are what got me interested in model painting and it is what I am trying to create when I paint models myself. The final product here is excellent in how much variation of surfaces and finishes you managed to fit in, while managing to keep key colors bright enough that the model didn't devolve into one big muted mess.
I really like kitbashing and painting. Even though I'm not a modeler myself it is really satisfying watching someone create something greater than its parts. It really tickles the imagination
Loved the conversion and the paint job you've given the knight. I like grim dark style but not for everything or at least not all the time. Keep up the great work.
i think your videos where you kitbash your own models are the ones i enjoy the most and when you introduce us to New products to help our painting skills .
You make painting look fun and not the daunting task of making sure you're not ruining a model spent hours kitbashing on with a single daub or dabbing.
Love the kitbashing. I’d watch hours of it. Also love the grim dark style painting vids, cos they showcase a lot of products, and take the pressure of you Jon, and allow space for relaxed experimentation with the finish.
Man that came out amazing. It looks SO grimey like its been rusting over for decades. I love it! Only thing I think might have been a nice lil detail to add would have been some gun effects. Like a heated barrel that shows its been firing for way too long, maybe a muzzle flash or smoke coming off of it woulda really added some nice pop of color in contrast to all of that dark dingy rust. As for questions? Yes. Yes to everything! I love seeing kitbashes, and absolutely adore seeing them painted up to really show the end product. Some of my favorite videos in general for any content creator is seeing kitbashes, because it showcases their individual creativity and interpretation of whatever they're making. The paint job at the end merely solidifies the concept and turns it from an idea to reality in my opinion. So yes, please do more!
Fantastic model! What i like about it is the use of Products that come more from the Scalemodel Scene. Doing rusty grimey Stuff - using oil products etc. also helps with "traditional" miniature painting.
This is a pretty brilliant kit bash, here, the paint job is magnificent, and makes me want to start getting more into that, myself. I have some Vallejo chipping medium on hand that's been waiting for the right project to drop it onto, and sooner or later it's gonna have to get used!
I love your conversions / kit bashes. I really like it when you paint them. I do enjoy the occasional grim-dark paint job, but not all the time. There is so much information to take in, and so many techniques used it really is quite the experience to watch you work through it. Speaking of which, using the airbrush to spray a paintbrush to get splatters is pure genius. I will definitely be using that tip in the future.
Yeah, absolutely love the grimdark style and your videos about it because you understand that it doesn't mean to just smother your miniatures in streaking grime and call it a day. Please do more! Really dig this direction your channel is taking! Big thumbs up from me.
1. Yes I do. It has really improved my engagement with my army 2. Yes. Every different artist's interpretation of Grim Dark informs my style. 3. Frickin' yes. I loved this, your defiler, and I am eager to see you paint the ridiculous monster kit bash you made from the ogre scraps.
I am going to colour my two WarDogs as soon I have finished the current project. This was by far the most wonderful Kitbash with This model I have seen so far. Thanks so much John for sharing this with us.
This is a fun sometimes video. This is something I will never paint, but it's nice to see a professional do it and show me the art of the possible. Love the other videos showing a tutorial that is more on my skill level.
It's nice to see the completion of a full large project. You learn a lot from it. I like to paint in a modified grimdark style. Lot of rust and decay but with very saturated base colors. My Death Guard are Violet with a copper trim
I think kit bashing is one of the more satisfying things to do in this hobby. To come up with something completely different is awesome to put on the table top. Seeing one with more talent and me do it is inspiring and motivating! Well done!!
Absolutely love this video. Model and painting is amazing. I don’t paint models myself (photographer and artist), but I always make time to watch your stuff. Thanks for what you do 😉
Yes, please do more kitbashing and painting it. Was really looking forward to the finished product of this Warhammer Knight Kitbash and you delivered... awesome content as always!
I love this two video series so much. I’ve started painting a lot of Grimdark stuff and I really feel like I’ve found the thing that works for me best. This is mostly for the reason that it makes me very happy when I approach painting a mini this way. It’s very freeing and it gets me in this flow where I want to paint more minis and more often. I for one would love as much content like this from @ninjon as I can get.
I bloody love kitbashes like this. The result is nothing short of amazing. When I saw the first video it was what inspired me to make a Legionary Kill Team - the first minis I ever built - and I want to leave my gratitude ^^
Heck yeah! This was fantastic! I like the grim dark painting and most of the techniques you use in your videos. Helps inspire me when I want to try something new!
Your kitbash videos, and then painting that kitbash, are one of my favourite things you do on this channel. That Night Lord's monstrosity from before, and now this one. They're both incredible. I know it's unlikely, but I would love to see a full Dark Mechanicum kitbashed daemon engine army be done here.
Hey Jon, I’ve been watching your channel for a while and honestly it’s one of my favorites. My girlfriend and I love watching each of your videos because they’re so positive, fun, and informative, and the models always look amazing at the end. I’ll watch anything you post, but I will say that breaking this video into two parts with the kitbash and painting separate was really cool. It built up some anticipation and allowed you to add in way more detail to each video without it feeling rushed. Thank you so much for the content you create!
A cool trick i came up with is to zenithal spray gloss varnish, then add the enamel washes. It makes it very easy to remove the washes on the top surfaces and the matt lower surfaces can still soak up the wash and stay dark.
I appreciate the kit bashing and painting, and seeing you do the grim dark painting is also good. Not really there as most of my stuff is fantasy styled or Eldar, but I do love learning about all the different products for future binge buying! Also, chain spears for all!
I have never tried grim dark but when it's done right it looks awesome. I have enjoyed this full process of the build and painting (also like the community getting involved and basically picking/ suggestion what color scheme). John this model is honestly fantastic
Wow, this is so awesome, you are a true master of your craft. So creative. Definitely more of this kitbashing stuff, because it's more than just painting minis. You're putting your imagination into it and the result is amazing. Rock on bro 🤘🏻
This video was awesome and made me sub! I'd love to see more kitbashing and painting, feels like there's not enough videos of actual painting on youtube.. Just a ton of "3 things to improve your painting" videos. It's really relaxing to just sit back and watch someone as talented as you actually paint a model from start to finish.
I'll be honest, most of the way through the video I was wondering why people would want to do this style. I tend to prefer a clean, bright look to things. But at the end it's so well done and intentional I get it. Really great job!
In all serious, 1. I personally havent done a grim dark paintjob myself yet 2. I do like your grim dark videos when you do them, they're quite interesting to learn that style and even if its not the style im currently trying to learn, it helps to pick up certain tips ands ee if i can apply them 3. Your kitbashes are legitmately some of the coolest I've seen, while also being something that seems approachable and something that even newer people can do themselves 4. It may have been too many questions but I like making small listicles in comments
After watching Richard Gray's videos I got really inspired to paint grimdark style, and found it a lot of fun. Also, I find it really easy to build upon his instructions to take it a few steps further to get truly awesome looking models and painting them completely stress free. So yeah, painting grimdark style is awesome! :)
I love your grimdark painting videos because i am working on some nurgle terminators and seeing your weathering techniques is very helpful. If you ever have time for it, showing a quick alternative that is with only acrylics would be helpful.
I personally like the kitbash and paint videos! I’m not as hot on the kitbash side, but I LOVED this video. Getting to see your war dog come to life was amazing. Grimdark paint style is always great, because weathering is something that can really put a model over the edge in looking great or bad, depending on how it’s done. Keep up the great work!
Love all the different styles you paint in, most I'll never try to tackle myself but I learn something new and am always left in awe by the finished product.
this gave me some good ideas for how to weather and add some grime (not as much as you) for my tau suits. The paint chipping technique, the grime application and then removal, those seems like things i could use for certain things i want to do. Great Video. Super helpful.
"Why don't they use chain spears" No no he's got a point
came here to say the same thing
I see what you did there, and I approve.
For reals
Ever heard of nightlords? 💀
I used a pole saw a few days ago and my first thought was absolutely "let someone try and come up on you while you have one of these"
What we need is Darrell’s take on the lore. That way you can get on with modelling and Darrell can deconstruct the lore with his chain spear: a perfect solution for everyone.
Isnt a chainglave basically a chain spear tho
I know nothing about the lore or weaponry and am happy to keep it that way. Darrell’s the go-to guy.
Yeah, it could be like drunk history... haha
That would be hilarious
I'll definitely cash app some R&D $$ for Darrells upgrade of his chain spear to get a flame thrower.
Because of course some enemies have wierd creatures, putrid/corrosive liquids and semi autonomous bio functions that can be rendered safe to dismember/disembowel once they've been seared/toasted
Darryl is 100% right on the chain-spear
The vex macinator(i probably spelled that wrong) they call it a glaive but it could be classified as a spear it
And yes he is right
I think I have a new #1 zombie apocalypse weapon lol
Sevatar tends to call his chain glaive a spear
@@Exidous96 I know that I saw something like this in a zombie movie somewhere :) And it make sense, you want to keep the cuddly zombies at a distance while giving them ventilation holes.... but they still smell :(
This is BY FAR the greatest idea that Darrel has ever had!!!!!
Ye. Best intro yet too I'd say. The payoff is brilliant.
We need to see it brought to life in miniature form!
He actually has a point
Some chapters already use/used chain spears, like the night lords. Why they all don't is baffling to me.
I mean. He's asking whether we like him kitbashing. Indeed, we want him kitbashing. A chainspear.

Chaos Space Marine Lord Discordant. Rockin a chain spear. You should kitbash Daryl's head (complete with trucker hat) onto a Lord Discordant model.
Jon has an entire night lords army but doesn’t know about chain glaives 🤔
That's what I came here to say !
I love kitbashing, I love your channel and seeing your creativity on so many levels was so cool, and to see and to see how many tools you brought to the project I feel like I got my money's worth from the video even though watching it for free.

Your explanation of your technique, tools, and thought process is what makes your videos so amazing!
Oh my god this is amazing!!!!!! Im so glad you painted it! Holy cow
Of course we love when you kit bash your models! And when you paint them!!!
Honestly I’ve loved the two videos on this Wardog. Great to see a kitbash and then the painting process.
Nice I couldn't wait for this one to be painted. The chain spear was awesome !
I love these style of videos! Kit bashing and painting the kitbashes while teaching techniques is a brilliant combo
for the final questions, I love it when you paint in the grimdark style and I love when you kitbash and piant them
1. Yes I do. It has really improved my engagement with my army
2. Yes. Every different artist's interpretation of Grim Dark informs my style.
3. Frickin' yes. I loved this, your defiler, and I am eager to see you paint the ridiculous monster kit bash you made from the ogre scraps.
Epic. Just, epic. And yes to all the questions. Loved the grimdark painting, loved the kit ask followed by the painting.
Yups its kinda great to see some kitbashes and diffrent paint styles from time to time. Don't paint it myself, but its fun to watch and get inspired
I'm addicted to kitbashing and painting in grimdark style. I'd love to see more of both in your videos
It's nice to see the completion of a full large project. You learn a lot from it. I like to paint in a modified grimdark style. Lot of rust and decay but with very saturated base colors. My Death Guard are Violet with a copper trim
Seeing the build of this model AND THEN seeing you finish it was a great journey. Keep it up
Rad model Jon, super awesome. I've never painted anything Grimdark-y, but I like watching you paint Grimdark-y stuff.
I think kit bashing is one of the more satisfying things to do in this hobby. To come up with something completely different is awesome to put on the table top. Seeing one with more talent and me do it is inspiring and motivating! Well done!!
Kitbash and paint videos are my fave to watch. I learn loads from yours, thanks.
i love the kit bashing and painting stuff, its cool to see what dark and cool...things you can make
I think there used to be a chain spear design...It was like a glaive, which is effectively spear+ in the broadest of senses.
Everything about this project that you did was enjoyable. So yes, more of this would be great!
I love seeing you paint what you have kitbashed!
That looks crazy good Ninjon! ...also, thankyou for all the help you give us amateurs through your tips and tricks and hints at ideas!
This turned out amazing. The kitbash was great and so was the paint job

Heck yeah! This was fantastic! I like the grim dark painting and most of the techniques you use in your videos. Helps inspire me when I want to try something new!
Kitbash videos are hands down my favorite Warhammer content. And you knock it out the park.
Love it! Kitbashing content is awesome, and you should do more of it. I am in the middle of kitbashing a Morkaknight and this video has inspired me.
"In all serious," you light up the stage and watch em' jump like a candle. Great work! Phenomenal edutainer!
Your explanation on painting is really helpful. I've been watching tons of painting tutorials. I'm new to 40k and need all the help I can get.
Pls continue kit bashing and painting! Is rly fun to watch and helpful!
Watching you free hand those fingers on the tabard blew me away. That was some impressive brush control!
Watching the kitbash and then painting process, in depth, was really great content. I loved it
Turned out great!
Really dig these kitbashing videos and follow-ups, so always down for more of those.

Stellar work! You made a dork model look wicked, and then the right amount of grim dark.
I love it when u kit ash and paint minis you inspired me to start kitbashing for my tyrinad army
I have never tried grim dark but when it's done right it looks awesome.
I have enjoyed this full process of the build and painting (also like the community getting involved and basically picking/ suggestion what color scheme).
John this model is honestly fantastic
always love grimdark. really liked these vids! for me, it feels more like arts and crafts than just plain miniature painting
Wow, this is so awesome, you are a true master of your craft. So creative. Definitely more of this kitbashing stuff, because it's more than just painting minis. You're putting your imagination into it and the result is amazing. Rock on bro 🤘🏻
Thanks for the tips about the airbrush... A nice touch both by you and H&S.
Keep up the good work Ninjon!

Loving all of this, the kitbashing and grimdark painting is awesome.
Kitbash projects top to bottom YES. Your videos are a must re-watch since there's so much useful stuff in the text. Excellent viewing.
this gave me some good ideas for how to weather and add some grime (not as much as you) for my tau suits. The paint chipping technique, the grime application and then removal, those seems like things i could use for certain things i want to do. Great Video. Super helpful.
