Great tune...the dance floor was always full in the discos when this tune was CRANKED....great times.
This was actually a remake of a song released by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. It was offered to Diana Ross as a "follow up" song to her Love Hangover but then was offered to Thelma instead which earned her her one and only Grammy award, Best R&B Vocal Performance, female, beating out Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin, Dorothy Moore and Diana Ross, lol. She didn't attend the Grammy's thinking that with that much star power she had no chance of winning so said she was at home mopping her kitchen floor when she won, lol.
I love it when you 2 dress up in the 70's outfits. It looks great on you both and you would have fit in perfect back then. I was there and know that right down to the jewelry and glasses, you both have it absolutely on point!
Thelma Houston is FIRE! One of my all time favorites. I'm so glad Diana Ross didn't record this one and I'm a huge Diana Ross fan. Thelma was talented, sensual and always left me wanting more.

Heard this song for the first time in a packed theater in San Diego, California back in the 70's. It was part of the soundtrack from the Movie "Looking For Mr. Goodbar", starring Richard Gere and Diane Keaton. The ending was a real shocker. Nobody said a word and quietly walked out when it was over.

True, I heard also that "Don't Leave Me This Way" was originally assigned to Diana Ross and Thelma Houston was originally assigned "Do You Know Where You're Going To." However, Motown switched things up and gave Thelma ""Don't Leave Me This Way" and gave Diana "Do You Know Where You're Going To" for her Movie "Mahogany."" You can hear Thelma Houston's version of 'Do You Know Where You're Going To' here on UA-cam as well.
