This is a wonderful song that reminds me of being a teen in the 80s. The musical melody is a rip off though of Gordon Lightfoot's, 'If you could read my mind.' He had actually brought a lawsuit for plagiarism but later dropped it because he felt it was having a negative effect on Houston and he knew it wasn't her fault and she wasn't named in the lawsuit.

Everybody likes Whitney doing this, so do I but I actually prefer the original by George Benson from the film. The fact that my second and third favourite songs by Whitney are both covers is slightly disappointing even though she does a fantastic job on them both I already knew both this and I Will Always Love You by their original artists from movies I really liked. It's not, it's original to her, but just for your information she didn't cover Dolly on IWALY. David Foster heard Linda Ronstadt's 1975 recording of the song IWALY and they used that as the template for their recording. The arrangement is the same as Ronstadt's they just played with the melody line. When Dolly found out they were using Linda's recording as the template for theirs, she called David on the phone to give him the final verse of the song, which Linda did not use in her recording. David had to add another 45 sections to the arrangement of the song.
It’s such a shame how she met her demise. Bobby Brown really messed her up! Whitney was a nice looking woman, and had a beautiful voice. But she looked like death warmed over before her inevitable death. May she rest in peace. 🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻
