@@danielrine42 that's an ideal to strive for but if your going to break or have a keto treat, better to have the keto treat. When I started keto a year and a half ago I didn't have the sweets out of my system and stuff like this kept me on my diet. Fast forward now I can live without them and have them only occasionally. It's a process.

However, I DID use coconut flour. The trick is, I only used 1 teaspoon, and that's it. The final cake looks just like yours, and as I said, it's my new favorite cheat day snack.
1 teaspoon of coconut flour to replace the almond flour? That's all I need?
@@Ohwowthatshowwedo369 Yepp, coconut flour absorbs every liquid like crazy. If you want to substitute almond flour with it, you should use only one third (or just a quarter) of the original quantity, and you're good to go. (I used a >heaping< teaspoon, mind you.)

This is glorious, I been tryin to find out about "what are the recipes for cake" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Loniden Meyatthew System - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my neighbour got great success with it.

I bought the needed ingredients and made it. I did not heap the tablespoon of swerve enough. It could have been a little sweeter but it was soooooo good. I added a few Lilly's chocolate chips and melted them in and that fixed the problem. Thank you.

@@ElenaLopez-jk7dq me :) I used stevia for 3 years (pure one - hard to buy) and it made me feeling sweet taste much much stronger and stronger and now I am unable to eat sweets from shop and use sugar cause it would make me vomit :) But stevia is not good for keto as dr Fife says (because once your brain recognises sweet taste in your mouth insulin is produced by your pancreas what we don't want to happen, right?). You can use coconut oil as it reduces sugar cravings and as far as I remember chromium tablets work as well. cheers.

I just tried this and it came out great. The texture was perfect. I’m not a fan of the way mug cakes come out in my microwave, so I baked it in the oven, and it took about 30 minutes or so to bake. The next time I’m going to try it with a monk fruit/erythritol mixture to see if I can get it to be just a tad bit sweeter.
I have to say that this super fast one portion of cake became to be my go to single cake when I crave something sweet. I added one tsp of peanut butter in the center and I will definitely add 2 of them next time! So good and I think this recipe is actually kinda basic so I can play around and add some chocolate pieces, some nut butter, or top it with cream, cream cheese...just whatever. Thanks a lot for this one!! 😋🙏

i made this and it came out soooo good! i loved it. I added two tbsp of heavy cream and used 2 tsp of allulose instead bc that what i had and came out perfectly moist and soft 💖

He was using the food scale to measure weight. That's why he said 1 tbsp OR 5 grams
What size spoon was he using as a shovel? Dinnerware teaspoon which is often different than a measuring teaspoon. Perhaps a soup spoon?? When weighing ingredients, it doesn't matter what size scoop (shovel/spoon) that you use, as long as the end result is the correct weight.

So I just made this. It was good but not that chocolatey. I would suggest throw in some bakers chocolate, add a tsp of cream cheese or sour cream for moistness and a little less almond flour. I made a little whipped topping ( HWC + swerve) and a few pecans 👍🏼

If you want a bomb af COFFEE ☕️ cake go ahead and follow the same but sub your 5g of cocoa powder for 5g instant coffee powderrr! 🤪 (Personally Im here to curb “Sweet Tooth Cravings) so i think I’ll up the KETO-friendly SWEETNER to 17-18g next time and see how that goes! (BUT IT WAS GUUUD!) Also I added a keto friendly kinda icing on top of mine... 1 tbls of PB, 1 tbls Nut Milk, 0.5 tbls cream cheese & a few drops of liquid stevia to taste! I accidently added coconut oil to the batter before really listening, but I PROMISE, this mug cake was SO delicious and MOIST! Omword!! So delicous. We didn't have powdered (or a good blender) so we used granulated and a 10 drops of stevia. DUDE!!! the BEST mug cake texture EVER. All of my other ones have been so dry and unappetizing. Even at 1 minute, it came out so dry that I had to add butter, water and blackberries just to moisten it. My son couldn't finish it, he kept asking for more butter and blackberries. So bummed!

I wanted to share with you my own experience with Keto. I started 1/1/2020 i am 59 years old T2D and I weighed 257 pounds. Today, I am 238 and stalled. I go in and out of keto because I am diabetic. I have been craving anything that is forbidden! LOL But, today I found your Chocolate Mug Cake. Oh dear Lord! I had all ingredients in my kitchen, so I made one. I am in heaven! 5 minutes from start to eating. I dropped a few of Lily's dark chocolate chips on top with about 1tbsp crushed pecans. For those who don't have almond flour, you can make it flourless; just beat the egg whites to stiff peaks, mix the yolks with any artificial sweetener, vanilla, butter, and cocoa powder until a thick mixture and fold it with the egg whites, this is going to the oven at mid heat for 15 minutes or so (I just do it by feel) and that's it, it's definitely amazing for not having carbs at all.
So my parents are on a keto diet, (it's also their anniversary today) so I figured I would set up a little date on our balcony at home (because of covid), and I made them all types of keto recipes from your channel and let me tell you: each and every one of them turned out literally amazing. This was absolutely perfect and so were your other recipes. Thank you so much! You helped me figure out a way for them to have a perfect cute date even during the pandemic!

the recipe works really well, but it's dry. On my second try, I added 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and coconut milk to it, which came out perfect and moist!

Mmmm!!!! Gonna try what you did with that recipe. The first time I made it I added almond milk cause batter looked a little thick and added some peppermint extract, crushed walnuts and a little bit of dark chocolate chips in the batter. Before it baked completely I added very little chocolate chips and walnuts again, as garnishment. I always have fun trying out recipes and manipulating them to my liking. Gotta be careful with the peppermint extract, even 1/4 tsp is waaaaaay too much.

Joe, this was definitely awesome. I only used 2 Tablspoons of Almd Flour rather than 1/4 cup. This had an awesome rise..very moist, and cake like....and melted a couple of dark choco chips, as topping.
It looks like 2 tbsp is closer to what he said in grams (28g) than 1/4 cup which is actually 57g. So I think he meant to say 1/8 cup of almond flour instead of 1/4 cup. source: foodcookture.com/conversions/
Guys who use erythrit powder you should add more as it’s less sweet than swerve. I also added 10g of unsweetened chocolate chips and it’s amazing! Can also add chopped nuts. Thank you Joe for a cool recipe!

@X Y it will not be metabolized in your upper gut and be left for your lower gut. could cause diarrhea, bloating, gas, maybe vomiting if taken in huge (really excessive) quantities.

This cake was great but my mom made it first and it was very dry so I added one tablespoon of butter and and extra teaspoon of the fake sugar and it really helped
Fake sugar? What is fake sugar? I would skip the swerve all together and use allulose you will need more of it but it doesn't have the cooling effect nor the stomach issues. But skip all fake sugar
TIP: add 2 tablespoons of water to the recipe, it’ll make the cake much less drier SO much more tasty! I make this recipe almost every morning and eat it with peanut butter

Why can’t we substitute almond flour with coconut flour
Coconut flour you would use way less because it absorbs so much liquids and its way higher in carbs. You could probably use some and cut down on almond flour. Also coconut flour will make it taste like coconut
I thought you were a madman for not adding butter. I've always added butter to my mugcakes. Let me just say, you've changed my viewpoint! Decided to try it this way, and wow, does it cook better without butter! Love it!

Thanks much for the recipe, I didn’t have confectioners on hand but was motivated to succeed. I substituted granulated monkfruit while it probably was not as sweet as it should be was still very satisfying.

I believe coconut flour soaks up liquid more than almond flour and it would be too dry. Almond flour has more natural oil

maybe try a little oil,avocado oil goes great with chocolate and will give you a little more moistness just like normal cake.Butter solidifies as it sits which will make your cake dry
