You're an excellent mechanic and a great instructor. Thanks for this video!
Thank you for watching and appreciate the comment.
I just bought one that needs exactly what your doing...I had to stop on the 2nd half and just say thank you for the knowledge...what great ideas...can't what to watch the rest then do exacually what your doing..thanks loads
Thanks man, I appreciate the comment.
Good video I wanna see this old badboy run
Thanks man.
That’s how I install the crank in teases - hot and cold. I heat thee case to 250 degrees and the crank to 0 degrees in the freezer.
good job
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Excellent video. I had the same problem as in Mikes comment. The crank was a lot stiffer. Did you hone the cylinder bore when putting the new rings in as well?
I actually got a new cylinder that was already honed. The only thing I did was chamfer the ports a little to make sure the rings would not get caught.
Do you happen to know if there is a torque spec on the crankcase bolts? After reassembling the case with a new seal and new bearings, my crankshaft spins nice and free until I do the last round of cinching those bolts. Then it gets quite a bit harder to turn. Maybe my new bearings aren't as nice as the ones you're using? I bought the Proline brand from Sawzilla.
By the way, this really is a great 3 part video series. I don't think I would have even tried to save this nice old saw if I hadn't come across your youtube channel.
Sounds like it is getting bound up somehow. I would try tapping it back and forth with a small dead blow hammer to see if your just off center. If you look closely you should be able to tell where it is binding probably on one side of the case. If it’s not that I would check to make sure your crank is true and something bent is not causing issues. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment.

Thanks for the videos, they inspired me to rebuild the same saw. One question though, how free should the crank spin? I followed your directions but mine seems to spin less freely after the other side of the case was installed. Did yours tighten up compared to having just one side of the crank installed? Thanks and really appreciate it.
Thanks man, happy to hear your bringing another one back to life. Yea the crank will definitely be a little tighter once the case is all together. If it seems a little more bound up than it should you could try to little tap each side with a rubber mallet to see if it frees up. You have to remember there will be a lot more friction once is goes through two bearing and two seals instead of just one bearing.
@@MarleyJaxGarage Thanks a lot man, the hammer tap seemed to do the trick. I must have bound something up a little.
@@mikejenkins1360 Mine did the same thing. I was debating to do it over until I read your comment. I will try the mallet as well. hopefully everything will wear in once its running.
Please. A good source for gasket and bearings/ parts.
I got the complete bottom end kit with gaskets/bearings/seals here www.ebay.com/itm/233940307941. For the rest of the parts I got them from wolf creek saw shop www.wolfcreeksawshop.com/product-category/stihl-028-028-super/. Hope this helps.
@@MarleyJaxGarage Many thanks. Your work on the vid is first rate.
