I have the same truck with the exception I added a 3" Carli level with 37 12.5 x 20" I did not get the Tremor but turned into one by ordering the same wheel lip moldings, front valance, and steps. I also have 3;55 gears. I get about 1 less mpg than you do with a 5 star tune using 87 octane light tow mode/daily driver mode. I also added duals with a slightly larger pipe from the cat back with a 10% better flowing Flowmaster 50 series big block muffler. Its about 5% louder than stock when getting on it. Love the truck and have had diesels since 96. I dont see me going back.

My 2021 Tremor 7.3 gets the same MPG as my 2012 5.4; city, highway, empty, loaded. So for me it was great to get the power, smoothness, and longevity for no decrease in MPG. Driving slow (65) makes a huge difference. They get really good economy.
From the 90's to 2008 I only had diesels and was very happy with each of the big 3, got a new one each year. They got fantastic economy and this gasser does not, but it (driven slowly) is surprisingly good. This is a great time to have a Super Duty 7.3 or 6.7 will make you very happy.

Great review! I ended up crunching some of the numbers based on this specific trim (I actually configured the same way you did haha) and when you factor in the price bump of 10k for the diesel, cost of def and difference in fuel price (now it’s nearly a $1 but did the normal from past 5 years around $0.40 difference … used $3 as a baseline from your fuel up) you would break even after about 400k miles (using 7.3L 13mpg vs diesel 17mpg i got from another video with similar driving) … i’m not even factoring diesel oil being more expensive and other factors to consider … so overall you got a badass truck and you will likely never see the break even point - now i need to find me one of these haha

It’s so funny to see the table flipped on diesel vs gas. Not that long ago the argument was more power (gas) vs simplicity and fuel economy (diesel). Diesels still own fuel economy, but the new 7.3 vs my old 460 truck is amazingly gas friendly. But now the gas engines are the simple ones with less power. Wild times.

Haha! Love it, man 🤣 I think the load will need to be well over 12,000 lbs before it gets into single digits, but we shall see.
At the end of the day (for me), towing heavy loads comprises only about 20% or less of what I will be doing with my truck. Fuel economy will suffer as the load approaches max gross, but that will be very uncommon for me. I also just saw diesel at $4.15/gal in Alabama (which is usually way cheaper than Florida), so I don't think I'll be saving much when you factor in the significantly higher cost of diesel fuel and maintenance.

Have a f250 in same drive train config. But a tremor. We tow full time with a 11.3k 38ft bumper pull. With 800lb of gear, fuel, driver in the Truck, we average about 8.3mpg with hills and such at 65-70mph on the highway. Without trailer driving around town, about 14-15mpg. Flat highway at 65mph, about 18mpg.
We had a tundra before this with 5.7, it got less gas mileage overall. 7.5mpg avg w/ trailer and 13.7mpg city/highway w/o trailer. Characteristics while towing was much, much, much worse with the 8k lb trailer we had before. It was unsafe at any speed. Always in 4th gear, not enough torque. Also, Tundra was 1500lb lighter, much less torque down low. The Ford, for a gas HD truck, it goes like no other gas truck ever built before. 90% torque, under 2k rpm. For the diesel side. I drove a 2020 power stroke crew cab 6.5ft bed 4x4, empty. Round trip from Central CA to North east Oklahoma drive on the I-40 for most of the trip. Doing about 5 over the limit the entire way I averaged 19.8 mpg when all said and done. For me I'm going diesel compared to the 7.3 gas. Reasons 1. The milage i got when I did the round trip, gas would've cost me more cause I'd have to fill up more often. I was getting almost 800 miles to the tank ( if I remember correctly, it was 3 years ago🤷‍♂️) compared to his 400 miles per tank. 2. The power... need I say more... 3. I have a CDL so I can max out the tow capabilities of any vehicle I drive, so when I tow i still want my mpg to at least be in the double digits unlike the 7.3 which at over 10k towing it probably be single digit like 8 to 9 mpg.

It seems that everyone who buys an HD gasser instead of a diesel, makes a video as to why they bought it and still get rediculed by the diesel fan boys. You bought a gasser because you wanted one. They bought diesels because they wanted one. The majority of people I know that own diesels, hardly tow at all and what they tow a half ton could easily pull it. They simply wanted one. That's fine, it's their money, and they can buy what ever they want. I've owned diesel trucks over the last 35yrs, and I drive one for a living, so I have plenty of experience with them. That being said, my current truck is a stock 2020 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi, CC,LB, 4X4, with the 4.10 gears. I haul more than I tow so I wanted the extra load capacity. The mpg has been consistent, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be better, so I'll definitely mention that when I take it in. I was pretty stoked about this new 10-speed, but I'm not sure it's the best thing in this truck. Time will tell...

My friend and I both have owned Ram 1500 sports trucks. We work for the town and we also are partners in a construction, snow plowing, and any other way we can make a dollar. We just ordered the new Ford trucks I got the Ford f150 xlt sport V8 coyote and he got the f-250 Platinum with the snow package but also the V8 7.3 motor but also we have a 7×10 dump trailer. I'm trying to tell him you should get either a diesel or the Boss V8 6.4 i think motor for better gas mileage. Hope this video helps.

Those are two great trucks, man! My brother is a sales rep for Ford and he is getting ready to take delivery of a custom 2022 F150 next month.
He's getting married this fall and I'm pretty sure he's more excited about the truck than the wedding, haha!
I hope this video helps your buddy out, but if it will be used heavily for construction, towing, and plowing, I would probably give the edge to the diesel (but the Godzilla is a close second).
Like I mentioned in the video, I will tow very heavy things, but I won't be towing them that often or that far. I am ok sucking up the lower fuel economy short-term vs the significantly higher cost of a diesel engine.

In the last 10 years, I went from a V6 Tacoma crew cab 2D (4.0) with a 5.5' bed to a 5.0 F150 2D XLT Super cab with an 8' bed, and now to an 250 XLT with the 7.3l and a 6 3/4 bed. The highway mileage was best on the Tacoma at ~18.5, but the difference between 5.0 with a 3.73 and the 7.3 with the 3.55 is less than 2 mpg.
On my 180 mile round trip runs to hunting property, I am averaging 15.4 mpg, mostly with cruise control. Nothing special - 18" BTS all terrain tires and a tonneau cover. In October, the 5.0 got 17.3 mpg and 17.1 mpg in 2 separate trips up there, same roads, same condition. The F150 was never stable towing a 9,500 lb trailer, which is why I traded it in for the 250.

Nice real-world test. I'm really interested in the this truck with the same rear-end gearing. Can you add what size tires you're running to the description for this video? I need to check out your other videos, but in case you haven't already, I'd really appreciate a video on any issues you've had (I've read horror stories about the new 10-speed transmission) and how well or how poorly the truck is holding up to regular use. Reliability is very important to me, and I still need convincing that this is a truck is built to last. My current truck is a Tundra with 300, 000 miles and the motor still runs strong. Would it be, in your opinion, unreasonable to expect that kind of quality long-term from Ford? I know the 7.3 is built tough, so it's the rest of the truck that I'm concerned about. Things like a smooth shifting transmission, tight steering, door hinges that don't get sloppy, suspension that doesn't sag, upholstery that doesn't come apart at the stitching, and under-coating and body rust proofing that keeps the truck from showing signs of rust, exhaust manifolds that don't crack, or corrode over the life of the vehicle (I'm in Minnesota where they salt the roads in winter) are all important to me, especially if I'm gonna spend the money on something this expensive. I know you said that you're a Ford guy, but if you've ever owned or known someone who has owned a Toyota, I'd like to get your thoughts on whether you think this truck has the same kind of quality as that of the Toyota.

Thanks for the great questions. I love Toyota products, and I drove several over the years while I was in the Marine Corps overseas and on other random occasions. Toyotas are well-built, affordable, and RELIABLE!!!
I will absolutely be running more of these tests, but I'll address your question about longevity really quick. Obviously, it's a little too early to make the 300k decision right now, BUT based on how this thing feels and drives, I have no doubt this truck will last a looooong time as long as routine maintenance is performed.
I drive my stuff pretty conservatively, and, while I'm not a gear head, I always make sure I get things fixed and perform preventative maintenance.
Regarding the fit and finish, this thing seems to have robust everything. I have no issues with the door hinges, the suspension is tight, the ride is smooth and quiet, and the interior isn't chincy. My personal opinion on the 10-speed is that it is smooth as butter from 5th through 10th gear (basically, above 25 mph). I don't think it's bad at all in the lower gears, it just doesn't want to sit still; it wants to leap out of the gates. It has a ton of pop in the lower gearing, and it accelerates really fast and smoothly. I had to stomp on it several times in my current "normal mode" test, and I went from 0 to 80 in a few seconds (sort of scared myself, actually, lol). But, overall, I really like the 10-speed.
So, long story endless, YES, this truck has every bit of potential as the Tundra to make it to 300k miles if you take care of it (and it'll haul WAAAAY more too 😉).
      Hope that helps

I don’t pull with my truck anymore but when I did it was a 12 foot enclosed trailer and averaged around 8 to 10 town/highway. The new motor has plenty of praise and power. Just remember that the extra cost of a diesel up front will take a whole lot of miles to break even to the purchase of a gas truck.

In as much as big blocks run on torque more so than revs... and I mostly drove big blocks up through the 1980's I found that the best way to measure fuel economy was in gallons per hour rather than gallons per mile. My 1966 Olds 425 literally consumed the same amount of fuel at idle (plus or minus a few percent) as it did at highway speed.. well unless I kicked in the 4 barrels, then the fuel consumption went into gallons per mile not miles per gallon. Which kind of goes to the point that mostly big blocks when they are geared correctly should never run much over 2000 RPM for peak efficiency, maybe even a little less. The higher you rev the engine the more the weight of the pistons and rods work against you.
On the other hand I'm running a small block 4.6 in a P71 now and it gets just about the same fuel economy as my 75 455 Buick did hauling an Electra, Overworking a small block and running it at higher revs is going to cost you just as much and maybe more than running a high torque big block. in the end, it takes so much energy to move so much mass over a given distance regardless of which engine you use.

Still, with the right computer skills, I'll bet tuning can still be great fun. Definitely worth learning.

My work gave me a 7.3 Godzilla F-250 Lariat long bed with OffRoad tires on it. I drove it 4,500 miles so far and computer says 14.4. My highway miles are always plus 75 mph. I find my measured mpg is slightly less than what the computer says. Door sticker says I have a 3.55 axle. I have two things to say 1) I like it so much I ordered a personal F-350 long bed with 7.3 and 2) I’m now fond of the engine and can’t stop speeding with it. It is EASY to go from 45mph to 80mph with this truck. Just a blink of the eye. Oh. 10-spd tranny is smooth and doesn’t clunk. It’s not hunting for gears. I can BURN the rear off road tires very easily if I want to by the way!!!

@@millionairemafia9610 I work for a pipeline construction company. We get to drive company trucks. The whole industry does it. By the way this particular truck is unique. Normally we buy 6.2 gas 250’s. This 7.3 was given to us by Detroit Ford engineers. Honest to God. We had to register it and insure it. It is experimental and they won’t say WHAT is being tested. The VIN # is unusual and when we bring it into a Ford dealer for oil changes soon as they enter the VIN they know the truck is unique. But no amount of OBD scans, Forscans or physical inspections can tell us what they have unusual in this truck. All they asked us to do was “drive this like normal”. My boss gave it to me to drive for a while. Sure!!! I think I have a SUSPICION (with no facts to back it up) as to what this is. I think this 7.3 is a blueprinted test engine that came off the test bench. I bet they have a million bench miles on it in accelerated testing. Then they disassembled it, checked it against blue prints then reassembled and slapped it into this long bed 250 so they can see how it handles in normal use after so much bench testing. That’s just a guess. Soon we have to return it to them and they say they will finish testing in Detroit and then CRUSH IT!!! Kills me to think about that since this thing is an absolute beast. By the way. Every now and then I get a notice on the screen that telematics are being uploaded! Haha. My boss said Ford knows if I’m doing the dirty with my wife in the back seat. Haha. I recently had a chance to drive 10-12 hours in my buddy’a 250 6.5 bed diesel. He broke his arm and we had a lot of driving to do so I did all the driving in his truck. That diesel absolutely has more GRUNT than this 7.3 but but but this 7.3 is an Old School V8 that has that “feel” that you just love to drive. Like my first car - a ‘69 Chrysler Newport with a 383. My dad taught me to drive FAST on highway in that car (he enjoyed fast highway drives!) and we used to say it “slides down the road”. Well. This 7.3 long bed is exactly the same feel. It all comes back to me driving this. It has same throttle feel and it slides down the road. The long wheel base “digs in” on constant radius corners. You can accelerate smoothly and quickly out of corners. The long bed helps and that 7.3 is so smooth. I love it. I would NOT change my F-350 truck on order to the diesel. I have no need to haul more than 12,000-13,000 pounds. I love love love the 7.3. Bravo to Ford for having the balls to make that engine. I predict a long successful production run on it.

Funny how the more things change some thing's still stay the same. On another note a F150 will do most anything that I need to do and gets 18+ average mpg. A savings of about $1000 or more per 15,000 miles a year or over $10,000 in 10yrs.

I was going to buy a 5.0 F150 until I found out Ford started doing the fuel management crap on their V8s too. Factor in the repair bills in the eco boost or the new GM’esque fuel management V8 and you lose some of that over 10 years. Ecoboosts are a dice roll. You either get a good one or a money pit. AFM/DFM engines (fords will be no different) WILL be money pits if you don’t have the cylinder cutoff deactivated. The AFMs will burn out the rings past 100,000 and the DFM’s will have rocker problems that can be from simple fixes to destroy the motor at any age point. The 7.3 is an old school push rod big block with no fuel management gimmicks to f up reliability. The price is fuel. When you drive as little as I do fuel isn’t a big deal. I kept my 04 GMC 17 years. Hopefully I get 20 out of this one.

@@David-li4uw that's you, I'd buy one because they put the fuel management on them. I personally know Ford engineers, they stand behind them. I own a truck to enable my life, my truck is not a toy. I want a truck that handles the task and is as fuel efficient as possible. I know quite a few people with Ford's that use them like I do, not one of them is unhappy nor have they had a substantial issue. My 3.5 has 40k on it now, no issues, and I wouldn't expect them.
