This was a time. Lily Allen, Duffy, The Streets, Amy Whinehouse, Corin Bailey Ray, The Kooks, Razorlight, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Hoosiers, Kasabian, the list goes on pretty much all bringing our their debuts in the same year some of them living round the corner or just seeing them around London all the time actual artists on MTV singing in British accents such creative moving music it was so new and different like our generations Brit Pop- we were spoilt. I miss it. And we all thought the Killers we’re British hahaha the good old days.
The very first time I heard this song I was working as a PSD contractor in Iraq. It was in 2004 and I was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Pajero around British military controlled Basrah Air Station. I turned the radio on to see if I could get BFBS, found it and they started this. Magical song for the time and place. Every time I hear this, 20 year old memories come flooding back.
I was 19 when this album came out, the songs were on the radio in the U.K every day - it was amazing. Early Adele, Razorlight, Amy Winehouse, Kaiser Chiefs, Muse, Take-That had resurfaced, The Twang, Duffy, Lilly Allen, Enter Shikari, Plan B, etc etc. You get the picture. This was the time when I had just fallen truly and madly in love, too. I thought I knew it all, I thought the amazing music, the good times - the parties, the nights out up town the relationship would last forever. But alas! Nothing ever does. I look back at that time so fondly. It was incredible to have some of the best years of my early youth at the same era as this music. It really aided In shaping me as a person and I still love the fact that myself and hardly anyone had social media or any of that b*llocks. Such a purer and more exciting and sociable time. Bloody 14 years ago, though. Wow I'm feeling old 😅
i’m 18 and just discovered this song. My memories of the late 2000s and early 10s are kinda mashed together but i miss that time so much. The radio and the culture was so fun. Could be childhood nostalgia, or how i used to dream of being like the young adults i saw on tv and online, but i am so sad i cannot experience that era ever again!! It seemed like the best 😊
I want to say a very big thank you to all of you who have supported my music and accepted my sound. It has been a land slide but you all kept supporting me I appreciate you all. To me, this song highlights that we all have the human condition: we are all unique, we are all imperfect, we all die, we all have ugly bits, we all fail, we all have private moments, sad moments, a family, favourite things and places. But so often in society we're labelled and reduced to simple characteristics: thick, fat, smart, sexy, weird, gay, etc. Society loves to label human beings. But human beings defy labels. Human beings are individuals. I like to celebrate that with this song.
Mouthwash and We Get On are the 'foundations' of the album more than even Foundations. A deep and fun album at the same time, up there with anyone for greatest debut but some people (very vocally) don't see it.
I assume you're not British. So.... proper suburban London accent she's singing with there by the sound of her vowels (like my own). 'British accent' a bit vague! It's rather nice to hear someone not faking their accent in a track. For contrast, check out the Proclaimers, equally British but completely different sounding.
I wonder if anyone else feels my pain.. I have been listening to Kate Nash's songs for years and years now, and I have always encouraged my friends to listen to her and they wouldn't.. But since it's been used in Zoella's advert on TV, all of a sudden they are rushing over to UA-cam to listen!! This is what I have been telling them for 3 years!! Honestly.. (Sorry didn't mean to rant, I do love Kate Nash, it just really irritates me that people can't see sense..)
Calm down people are allowed to enjoy music people came over here because they didn't know what song it was and then they came over here because they liked the song and found out the title !!!!!!
Xellie_mcbX X Erm, no. It was released in 2007. I specifically remember because Kate Nash was popular when I was in high school. The video was uploaded in 2010. Why do people have trouble telling the difference? This isn't the first time I've seen this. Somebody thought Destiny Child's Bootylicious was made in 2009.
Saw Kate in concert in Belfast about a decade ago. She was incredible live. She was wearing a silver jumpsuit almost like Bowie might worn in the 70s. Great gig.

i think its so beautiful in a way that i used to listen to this as a 12yo and now like. +12 years later i FIND THIS GEM again and just relate in an entierly NEW way its so amazing i love the internet i love kate nash
No but VEVO and Universal make ridiculous amounts from the ads because they are large corporations that are greedy whereas Kate Nash is the actual talent who deserves every cent she makes.

I never have and never will understand why Kate Nash is not super popular
Sadly her 2nd album bombed and she became quite the femanist. This is a tune tho.... Obv's why I'm here 👍👍👍 Still love her x
do you know the meaning of indie music?
Yeah she kinda farted on her own birthday cake, now she gotta eat it all herself
@@mrsnrub8500 what is a femanist?
@@retorique I have no idea but they certainly go on about "feminism" a lot tho.

falloutgirl902 back when music was good. Still to this day I'll always go back to the golden oldies no matter how many new songs come out
lily allen duffy amy winehouse and kate nash were amazing and tbh still are
2007 was the best year fro new british indie artists so many brilliant bands
cerysmh I was just generalising
Faith thank you! I was just there like hang on 😂
I love this album. Mouthwash, Skelleton song and Nicest thing were always my favourite songs.
She is so under rated, I love singers with proper accents that come through no matter what, and she definitely qualifies on that score.🦝
Then you should try Fontaines D.C. The lead singer has really heavy Irish accent.
@@milenalubinska5703 you know i love that violence

Same age. Definitely felt like a ‘boom’ in music. Shame not all lasted. Imagine having Adele, Kate, Duffy and Amy all competing right now?
complete legend, all her albums 2000s to 2010s are completely epic

2007.. Total life changing year for me. This one of the songs that takes me back to the sporadic good times of then. TUNE!
2020 listening to the oldies but good ones.
I forgot just how brilliant this song is
Such a classic!. Even though I was and still am into Rock, Metal, Post Hardcore, Punk Rock etc... music, this and Foundations I absolutely loved!
Then, you should checkout her album Girl Talk which has a lot of punk rock. It’s got some great songs on it!
Mouthwash and Foundations = Childhood.
me 2

GARYDOS yes yes yesss
Damn I'm old as fuck I guess. People talking about childhood on a video from 2010...

I remember being in year 7 when this song came out and we used to sing it during lessons. I'm now 20 and hate my life. Hahaha

This album really featured big time in a really pivotal time of my life. And it’s still great to listen to !

“I’ve got a family, and I drink cups of tea” best line in history
Tend to feel #ShesLeavinghome by the Beatles has some pretty great lines.
@Cara Beaumore In a capitalist system, of course it's a competition. What are chart shows for otherwise?

This is my face
Covered in freckles
With the occasional spot

This is my body
Covered in skin
And not all of it
You can see
And, this, is my mind

The same old lines
And, this, is my brain
It's torturous analytical thoughts
Make me go insane
And I use mouthwash
Sometimes I floss
I got a family
And I drink cups of tea
I've got nostalgic pavements
I've got familiar faces
I've got a mixed-up memory
And I've got favourite places
And I'm singing "oh oh" on a Friday night
And I'm singing "oh oh" on a Friday night
And I'm singing "oh oh" on a Friday night
And I hope everything's gonna be alright
And I'm singing "oh oh" on a Friday night
And I hope everything's gonna be alright
This is my face
I've got a thousand opinions
And not the time to explain
And this is my body
And no matter how you try and disable it
Yes I'll still be here
And, this, is my mind
And although you try to infringe
You cannot confine
And, this, is my brain
And even if you try and hold me back
There's nothing that you can gain
'Cause I use mouthwash
Sometimes I floss
I've got a family
And I drink cups of tea
I've got nostalgic pavements
I've got familiar faces
I've got a mixed-up memory
And I've got favourite places
I'm singing "oh oh" on a Friday night
And I'm singing "oh oh" on a Friday night
And I'm singing "oh oh" on a Friday night
And I hope everything's gonna be alright
And I'm singing "oh oh" on a Friday night
And I hope everything's gonna be alright
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
