Exactly, they take the ports hence have the ability to manipulate emperial market. They also spreading a lot of provocative message to the people to join revolutionist. The next thing is, the european sold their weapon to the revolutionist, therefore the revolutionist have more leverage and can do physical conflict. It is proven by how they force the loyalist to shave their head, confronting the lords and the generals (sometimes they kill them lol), and opressed monks who help loyalist refugees (this is why a lot of temples get burn down in the war). Of course the empress know whats up and rage war by mobilize the army and order the people to retaliate. A lot of christian chinese and european people get killed in the process. This is what the colonials want. In the name of "defending their citizen", they mobilize their army. So sad they go to war and killed eachother man Edit : my point is european didnot conquered the empire, they just help the revolutionist to wipe it out of china.
Trying to translate Japanese lyrics 「The year was 1900 55 days in the city Pekin Human as bullet, hitting each other Upon the boxer Rebellion Make the Allies, turning to be enemies Crowd of Rioters, clashed in the great battle With French, English, Italian and Russia As well as the Japanese elite The glory Pekin, only to be the street of death Under the call from the Empress of Qing, The soldiers from Qing, charging to Allies Without the fear to die under fire Their war cry echoing, upon the silent street The drums and the trumpets, sounds so bravely The glory Pekin, only in the blazing fire」 I'm just a freshmen major in Japanese, I'm not sure my english translation is in 100% correct but i'm doing my best. To explain some, first I need to say that the lyric in video is not correct in some place this is the correct lyrics(Transcript by Erika): 時は1900年 55日の北京城 肉弾相打つ 義和団事件 連合軍を 向こうに回し 決戦挑む 暴徒の輩 フランス イギリス イタリー ロシア さらに加えて 精鋭日本 華の北京 いまや死の街 清国女帝の 号令一下 連合軍に 突撃かける 死に物狂いの 清国兵士 喊声市街に 轟き渡り ドラム ラッパも また勇まし 華の北京 いまや火の海 some explanation 肉弾相打つ = "Human bullets" is the direct translation, it means "Soldiers charging like bullet" 連合軍を 向こうに回し= this one i'm not really sure what it mean, so I translate directly. Sorry if there is mistake 暴徒の輩 = "The Rioters" 精鋭日本 = "Elite Japan" I guess japanese are the only one that praising themselves in this song 華の北京 = In japanese "華の(n.)" is not really about flower, is about the greatness, beauty, florid etc... 火の海 = "The sea of fire", not sure how to said this in english
This is really interesting and I’m sure it’s a lot more accurate than the subtitles in the video. Maybe one day I’ll actually make an updated version and I’ll most likely use this translation. Thanks for commenting!
I am Japanese. Good translate. thx. I want to fix in detail. 1 連合軍を 向こうへ回し=(Chinese )make enemies of Allies. "向こう" is "Other side". But this word also means "Enemy" or "Enemy side". 決戦挑む 暴徒の輩 =Crowd of Rioters challenging (us) to decisive battle. "挑む" is "Challenge". 華の北京 いまや死の街 =The glorious Pekin, now is the street of death. "いまや " is "now". 2 清国女帝の 号令一下 連合軍に 突撃かける 死に物狂いの 清国兵士=Soldiers of Qing, charging to Allies forces, without the fear to die, under the call of the Empress of Qing This is one continuous word. ドラム ラッパも また勇まし=(Qing soldiers are brave. ) The drums and the trumpets are also brave.

The translation of the Japanese version is quite wrong. I translated it properly as below. -- The year was 1900. It continued for 55 days in Peking. It was Boxer Rebellion, the intense battle where human bullets collided with each other. They made enemies of the Allied Forces. The rioters challenged the decisive battle to the Allies, France, Britain, Italy, and Russia. In addtion, they attacked the flower of the Japanese. Now, the glorious Peking is the death city. Under the orders of the Qing Empress, they mounted a charge on the Allied Forces. The Qing soldiers came running desperately toward us. Their war cry resounded throughout the city. The drums and bugles resounded as brave as their fight throughout the battlefield. Now, the glorious Peking is in flames.

It was more about trade, but religion did play a part in it as the Boxer massacred innocent Christians who weren’t even affiliated with the Western militaries.

But it's so good The spanish...oh my god the spanish, it's like a combination of every single version, with slight Russian vibes, and literally threw every idea together, and those sudden changes in pitch tone puts an staple of originality in the song, kinda reminds me of a few old Mexican songs I've heard over the years, the style is kinda similar The french and russian versions are missing, but i bet they sound just as good

There's a very interesting story behind that thumbnail. Basically, the different nations tried to pick the tallest soldiers they could to one up each other. The Americans were sneaky and brought in a taller soldier, but the British were sneakier and gave theirs an even taller hat. Notice also how the British Indian soldier is ahead of the Germans, French and so on. That's because even an Englishman's dog is above a Continental (or so the thinking was at the time...)
I doubt the story as it sound like it was made after the facts. I mean, if the story we true, then the pith helmet we invented in Peking and so does the Sikh's turbans. Why not just wear the tall bearskin hat instead? Why didn't the Japanese stack two soldier under one coat? If anything, it point to the story being fake.

Trying to translate Japanese lyrics
「The year was 1900
55 days in the city Pekin
Human as bullet, hitting each other
Upon the boxer Rebellion
Make the Allies, turning to be enemies
Crowd of Rioters, clashed in the great battle
With French, English, Italian and Russia
As well as the Japanese elite
The glory Pekin, only to be the street of death
Under the call from the Empress of Qing,
The soldiers from Qing, charging to Allies
Without the fear to die under fire
Their war cry echoing, upon the silent street
The drums and the trumpets, sounds so bravely
The glory Pekin, only in the blazing fire」
I'm just a freshmen major in Japanese, I'm not sure my english translation is in 100% correct but i'm doing my best.
To explain some, first I need to say that the lyric in video is not correct in some place
this is the correct lyrics(Transcript by Erika):

華の北京 いまや火の海
some explanation
肉弾相打つ = "Human bullets" is the direct translation, it means "Soldiers charging like bullet"
連合軍を 向こうに回し= this one i'm not really sure what it mean, so I translate directly. Sorry if there is mistake
暴徒の輩 = "The Rioters"
精鋭日本 = "Elite Japan" I guess japanese are the only one that praising themselves in this song
華の北京 = In japanese "華の(n.)" is not really about flower, is about the greatness, beauty, florid etc...
1
連合軍を 向こうへ回し=(Chinese )make enemies of Allies.
2
清国女帝の 号令一下
連合軍に 突撃かける 死に物狂いの 清国兵士=Soldiers of Qing, charging to Allies forces, without the fear to die, under the call of the Empress of Qing
This is one continuous word.
ドラム ラッパも また勇まし=(Qing soldiers are brave. ) The drums and the trumpets are also brave.

The year was 1900.
