    I work in healthcare admin and while this is certainly an extreme case in terms of the amount, this is not surprising at all. Medicare and the VA are both horribly run garbage dumps of incompetency. And the saddest part is that this is a horrible way to treat veterans who give so much for this country.

      The debt isn’t the issue. This man has emotional issue that are harming him. I feel bad for him but many people have medical debt forever and rent. This guy is homeless with nothing he should have claimed bankruptcy a while ago. Most people are homeless for emotional issue not financial. You can always rent a room at least and jobs are everywhere.

      Mr. White
      Maybe if you weren't so busy finding insults to call people who disagree with your ideology you'd do some research into socialized healthcare and you'd stop being scared of it because of the word "socialism". Look outside of your bubble and see what the world has to offer, America is supposed to be a land of progress, but because of people like you were falling behind instead of joining the rest of the developed world. Somehow anything that disagrees with you has a "libtard bias", which to me seems to indicate that you care more about your ideology than honestly searching for the truth behind issues because you can easily dismiss contradictory information on your horrible logic.

    Since I am in healthcare, first of all, he should have reached out to the Revenue Integrity Dept of the Hospital to help him figure out who should be paying his bill Medicare vs. Tricare, secondly, you can always negotiate down your bill and lastly, most hospitals have funds dedicated to charity care and apply the balance towards that.

      No, a medical professional called and reported him as being someone else. They took him off by default and reversed their decisions for the previous four years. Probably during the investigative process. His data was promptly placed in the black hole of the internet because no one wants to do their job if it means admitting a mistake on their part. He just needs to provide them with the proper legal incentive to follow through with the investigatation and then rule on the claims. They absolutely CAN reverse this. The question is have they beat down and broken this guy enough for him to just quietly go away, or does he still have some of that warrior spirit left in him? Go make it right soldier. You got this.

If he can go back to work and get that part of his life back together (food and shelter), making much more than disability, then he would have a quality of life that is reflective of where it should be in his situation. No amount of debt should make you have to live on the street. That is giving the collectors way too much priority in your life.

      I have an $800 allowance from my parents for college here in South East Asia, and I live like a king. Luxury apartment rent $250 per month, cook my own food + eating out every week $200 per month, $30 electricity and water bill, internet (50 mb/s download), $15 a month. For $1300 a month I'd be able to eat out every single day.

      @bestly802 8 років тому +4

      That's great, you're living on less than $500 a month and comfortably too. I'll probably retire there and I'm hoping before I hit 40 years old. I don't want to work until I'm 70 in the US.

    • @bestly802
      @bestly802 8 років тому +11

      Actually, the point of living in Asia is to make more money than you live on. English jobs in Asia can pay $2k+ a month while living there only cost $200-$500/mo. Which means you can save much more than the worker in US who makes $35k-40k but got tons of bills to pay and pick up bad spending habits.

    People commenting here, bashing US heath care. Trust me, it's not exactly rosy in the EU. Yes, it's free....but. You have to wait MONTHS, if it's not a life threatening operation, and not everything is covered. Like you get a teeth extraction, but that's it. Anything else for teeth, you have to pay.
    The only upside is, if you happen to be in an accident, there is no way you are going to pay a single penny in any situation. I get horrified when I head you guys have to pay for the ambulance, for the room, and on inflated prices. In the EU, that is free.
    In some countries how ever, you "tip" the doctor. Like when you have a baby, you "should" give 1000-2000$ in an envelope to make sure they take care during birth. I know it sounds weird, but it's just a tradition I suppose and who is going to risk it.
    But it comes with a price, you are paying anywhere from 17-30% from your paycheck for all this, and it's mandatory, they just take it before you receive your paycheck. I haven't been sick in my life, so I 'wasted' God know how many, maybe 20-30.000$ only on this and I never used it.

    This is what Bankruptcy is designed for. He needs to go talk to an Attorney. If his income is low enough he might get a free attorney. I filled for Bankruptcy and there is a system setup in my state for people that need to file for bankruptcy in which the state will pay a reduced rate to the attorney.

      Sha Ron Viewing entitlements as rights is a common side effect of socialism. Creates a culture of consumers rather than producers. Afterall, why work for something if it's your "right" to have it?
      Claiming healthcare to be a right doesn't make it free. Someone has to pay for it. Who's "right" is it to pay for it so you don't have to? The taxpayers? (IE everyone else)
      Socialism is fueled selfishness and creates selfishness.
      Unless you're of course talking about the big Canadian money trees that exist up there as well as your cars with square wheels...
