      I continue to refer back to her videos when learning sewing techniques. When she even said about pre-washing fabrics being a personal preference, it’s like a huge weight was just lifted off of my shoulder. The way she explained it made so much sense

    I want to thank you for your upbeat personality and clarity in teaching sewing. I had a brain injury after a lung transplant so I have had to relearn many many things again, and still, many things don’t stay in my brain. Please pat yourself on the back because anyone that can explain things to a person with a brain injury, and be as inviting as you are, deserves milk and cookies for life! True, there are times I want to smack the back of your head- in a loving way- because you make it look so easy and mine is always a little more wonky! But a lot of that is my brain dropping information and not only sew the wrong sides together once and have to rip it out, but sometimes I do it two or three times! We call it the new comedy act! Thank you for what you do! It makes a difference in this persons life.

    I just found you and I love this quilt. I am 78 and watching video's to learn to make a quilt I think this is so nice. I am so happy to have found you. This looks like an easy one. Thank you so much. Wouldn't a walking foot work for doing the lines so you don't have to mark it?It has that long piece which can line it up. Watching Lorena's channel she does the long arm quilting she said allow enough extra because quilting takes up fabric.

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  3 роки тому

      Hi Donna. Thanks for watching! Yes, you can use a walking foot, that's a great option! I wanted to show people how to do it without one. But you can use the little guide that comes on it to gauge where your lines should be. And yes, for longarm quilting you want the Backing and Batting to be 8 inches larger than the quilt top.

    Dana I thank you for this quilt video. I have learned a lot from you so far making pillows and other items. I'm not a big fan of strips however and I was wondering if you could just make the quilt using solids or decorative fabric without any stripes? I am a total beginner never making a quilt before.

    I have a question about the batting and the backside of the quilt. Instead of adding the batting in the middle of the quilt can you skip that step and just add fleece for the back? Kind of combine this video with your How to Make a Self-Binding Sherpa Fleece Blanket

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, you could use fleece or minky, etc to the back! Quilting and sewing are adventures....so if you're unsure, my instinct is to always just go for it! And see what happens :)

    btw, watching this from europe, where we do not use inch. I am always a bit overwhelmed with the calculation. 🤣

      @MADEEveryday  3 роки тому

      Hi there, I know I'm sorry about that. I wish we used the metric system here. With some of my garment patterns I try to include cm and metric info. But I haven't worked that out yet with quilting. I think some quilters in Europe may use the imperial system?...only because most of the quilting info out there is with imperial measurements. But I'm not totally sure on that. Sorry! - Dana

    I'm an old quilter, and I'm so glad you encouraged a new quilter to sew their binding on by hand! That was very refreshing. You did a great tutorial for a new quilter. They need to learn by watching the step by step process so they won't tend to skip very important steps in a rush to get their quilt finished. In quilting something to be proud of, it can take time. So many try and break a speed record to get them done. Each quilt is a journey, and you should enjoy each journey. ❤ Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

    Who makes the hot dog fabrics? My hubby will love that

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  3 роки тому

      The hot dog fabric is by me! :) All the fabrics in this quilt are my own designs. My fabrics are manufactured by FIGO Fabrics, and you can find them in online shops. The hot dogs, oranges, and small florals are from my SQUEEZE collection and the stars and big floral are from my BUTTERSCOTCH collection. Search online for "Dana Willard fabric" or "Dana Willard squeeze fabrics" or "Dana Willard figo fabrics" etc and you'll see shops that carry my fabrics. Check etsy.com (lots of shops that carry them), fabric.com, Amazon, etc.

    Thank you so much for this video and pattern. This is the best tutorial I have seen. I have made a quilt before but it has been a while. I just have a question: since I am making the twin size and have to sew strips together to make it 70” long, do I sew the seam at a diagonal or straight when sewing them together? Hope that makes sense. Thank you again! ❤

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  9 місяців тому

      Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed it! That's a good question about the seams. Typically in quilting you would sew those with a straight seam. But you're right, you could sew it with a diagonal bias seam (like we do with the quilt binding pieces in the video). I guess that's just preference (and it would require more fabric per strip, to account for the bias cut ends) For the aesthetic of this quilt, I would prob do a straight seam....I think that with all the straight lines in the design, that would look best. Hope that helps! - Dana

    • @TK.Love7
      @TK.Love7 9 місяців тому

      Wow thank you for getting back to me so fast! Yes I agree and think I will do the straight seam. I already cut my strips so I’m ready to start sewing yay! However, I realized I cut my strips at 4 1/2” instead of 4 1/4” lol. So I need to go back and trim them. I guess it’s better they are too wide rather than too small lol. Well thank you so much for your help and your amazing teaching and sewing talent. You helped me get out of my rut and start quilting again. You are so appreciated! ❤

    How does it stay together after u cut some of the string area u sewed?
    Are u using a regular sewing machine or one made for quilting?

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  3 роки тому

      I'm using a standard sewing machine. I'm not sure what part you're referring to. The raw edges where I cut the strings ends up being bound around the edge with the binding, so everything is enclosed! So there are no "loose strings" :) Hopefully that's what you were referring to.
