Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer-Home David Tennant and Michael Sheen (playing themselves) were due to star in a production of Six Characters in Search of an Author in the West End. The pandemic has put paid to that, but their director (Simon Evans - also playing himself) is determined not to let the opportunity pass him by. He knows how big a chance this is for him and turns his attention to cajoling his stars into rehearsing over the internet.
All they need to do is read the first scene, but throughout the series they come up against a multitude of oppositional forces: distraction, boredom, home-schooling and their own egos.

"Do you know how tiring it is to be everyone's first choice..." "I do." "No, Michael. You don't!"
DAAAAAAAAAAAME JUDI!
IKR??
Their complete and unabashed deference to Dame Judi makes this even more hilarious. It's like God, the Queen and M all came in at once to slap them down and they didn't know what to do. Damn, that was good.
Had to pause it after that as I was laughing too hard.
I died 🤣
That was hilarious
“Play a queen, play a spy, play a cat” 😂😂😂
Can she play a black
Bede You mean like Othello? 😂
Looks a bit like a cat to me !!
@@Oxford322 Pot and kettle.
I’ve been a big fan of the cat show since 1998 and as unexpected, shall we say, as the film ended up, she did a great job.
*DOMESTIC SETTINGS*
*Judi:* London Mansion
*Michael:* Country House
*David:* His childhood bedroom
His child's bedroom, rather.
😂😂😂
For Michael, it was his kitchen.
When David said that long drawn out “well”, I had a flashback to the 10th Doctor and now my heart is full.
He got that from 4th.
I wish he was still the doctor 😢
Sounds like a blocked artery, get that seen to.
Yess
Absolutely !! 😁😆
"When we say yes, we do the bloody job."
And that's final for every single decision in life!
Thank you Dame Judy. You have enlightened my existence.
As she always does :)
What if the job is murder and we said yes while high on bath salts?
@@godlygamer911 I believe that you must know what kind of people you are following... if you come to be in such a crowd, respect for life, humanity would come first, definately
sorry, i did say yes... maam
I am surprised at how many people seem not to realize that this is a scripted series.
That's what I call acting. 🤣🤣
That's scary.
Yeah, it’s clearly contrived.
I love it in any way, scripted, unscripted...it lifts my heart
It’s very funny tho isn’t it 🤗
Damn she's good. Nearly found myself sitting up straighter and saying "yes ma'am" and she wasn't even talking to me. 😂
Lol me too
yup..
Yup. LOL
She may never have taught school but she's got the "teacher tone" down perfectly!
I felt like I was back in school being sent to the headmaster
In these depressing times when the country is physically and politically suffering, these people can cheer you up in an instant with their brilliant acting...Simply wonderful!
Hear, hear!! Yes!!! A thousand times YES!!!
Watching again in 2024. Same depressing times when the country is physically and politically suffering, with no end in sight from the red and blue, get nothing done, extremists. Luckily, Staged always cheers me.
"A bit like well-meaning moth that keeps bumping into the wrong light bulb." 😂
Dam! I am so gonna use this on someone.
Bump bump bump
I have a list of someones!! 😜
It does suggest by implication that there is another light bulb that the moth should bump, instead. I am not an expert on the sex lives of bulbs, nor moths, but to me, it seems unlikely.
My favorite line...
Maybe someone wrote it for her.
Dear the BBC,
If you don't give us a second season of this after quarantine with full length episodes... I mean I'll just be very sad really.
What do you mean you'll be very sad. We riot, right?
@@RuchiraRambles VIVE LA RÉVOLUTION!!!
@@OutlyingOkapi I'm with you!
Second series before Lock Down ends. Bring it on. This was fabulous.
Is this some digital show...? I love these actors, but this is the first "episode" I saw...are there others? Where can I find them? TIA!
The queen, has spoken. All hail the queen.
This was hilariously funny. Well done.
No it wasn't.
@Stephen Swingler. Yes, it was.
@@DrCrabfingers it was clever comedy. Make your own deductions for that...... if possible! 😏
"We're actors, when we say yes, we do the bloody job" I love you Judi 😂
Is it a comedy?
No, it's Italian.
Classic !
Such a perfect bit of British humor! Almost gave me a hernia
Crowley: "Ciao!"
Ligur: "What's 'ciao'?"
Hastur: "It's Italian. Means 'food'."
@@lauranceemory4448 Please explain for this yank what it means. ( I understand that if you have to explain a joke, then it isn't a joke.)
@Linnaeus Shecut - a trope. Incompatible concepts. Can’t be a comedy if it’s Italian.
@@linnaeusshecut3959 It's a pun. "Ciao" means "hello" and "good-bye" in Italian. But it also rhymes with "chow" in English, which means "food". It shows that the demons in "Good Omens" are rather ignorant sometimes. To paraphrase Crowley, the demons are still stuck in the 14th Century and haven't moved on, unlike the rest of the world. That is, until it's time for Crowley to deliver (hand over) the baby Antichrist to the Satanic nuns.
Judi is spontaneous as ever, game for anything, steals the spotlight with an unexpected _F_ bomb to rival the delivery of a moody teenager and closes the deal with comic timing. 😁
Judi loves her F bombs.😘
Dragon Landlord she embroiders them
Experience and talent can't be beaten, ever.
...and the fact that the whole thing is a scripted series....
She’s a 100% bad ass, brilliant actor.
I love Judy, what a talented and legendary actress. She's been in all types of films. At 85, she's still going strong. I have a lot of respect for Shakespearean actors/actress. Their acting is at a very high level.
Sadly we are losing actors and actresses of her class.
This video ends just before both men say, in unison, “Yes, Ma’am.”
Perfect timing
David Tennant’s face at times 🤣
Too lazy to add a timestamp?
@@paulcarmi8130 Maybe he/she is talking in general. Calm your ass down.
@@paulcarmi8130 Imagine being ignorant.
Zephyrr Sky he’s funny😀but I think he looks a bit thin..?
Zephyrr Sky
And Michaels at the very end😁
'Sorry! I didn't realize you were joining us!"
'Well...it would've somehow lessened the impact, wouldn't it?'
Dame Judi taking that slow, relaxed backswing before bringing the hammer down on David and Michael. Priceless.
Judi Dench: "I'm a national treasure, of course it's my responsibility to say no".
"No, No You Dont Michael!"
I almost fell out of my chair I laughed so hard holy shit that was funny!
and the look on David's face is so animated it sold it
Judi Dench is so fabulous. She’s a classic. She’s so fun with her grandson!
I say Judi Dench play Juliet at the Aldwych, when she was with the RSC. I was 14, and went with about six other kids from school. I am now 74., so that was, bloody hell... 60 years ago.
The Olivia Hussey/Leonard Whiting Romeo & Juliet got me through my “O” level! Love Dame Judi too
@Angry Hippo it was Claire Danes with DiCaprio. And as others mentioned, Leonard Whiting with Olivia Hussey (1968)... So not sure which one you watched. Lol
Boys pulled into the principal's office...🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Nailed it!
God love her.... Judy Dench is so regal when she swears.
I love Sheen, Dench and Tennant. What a team! More and more please!
She is a killer Queen. Slayed it!🤣😂🤣😂🇬🇧
Love her!!
Most certainly! 👍🏻🤣
They seem both terrified... But David ...more!
Dynamite with a laser beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Anytime!
She's the best M in the Bond franchise hands down.
You’ve misspelled Bernard Lee.
@@liquidgeorge Btw, if you've read the books, M is short for Mailed Fist.
Nope, that would be Bernard Lee.
I agree entirely. Judi is top drawer.
If you have a 00 agent who picks up every girl related to the mission, why not have a woman as his boss?
For some reason I can't fathom, Judi Dench swearing fills my heart with joy!
This is the funniest thing. I wish it was longer.
I love the very end: Judy goes away, Michael freezes up but David is still moving, looking cute & perplexed.
Wouldn’t be as funny if it were longer.
"You said yes, didn't you? Then stop effing about. Click!"
Judi Dench is the best.
Yes indeed, along with dame Maggie Smith. Best wishes.
David Tennant is such a genius, from calling yourself after Scotland's most famous lager, through doctorhood, to Broadchurch and now Parent of autistic child, he's a national treasure too. Come on Tracey Ullman do him too!
@@katiekitchen895 Hello how are you doing Katie. I trust you are safe and in good health. God bless you.
Loved the "Oh shit ! we're in trouble now !" look on their faces when Dame Judy appeared.
After seeing this, I now believe that the only reason God rested on the seventh day is that Dame Judi said so :)
"Do this. Do that. Play a queen. Play a spy. Play a cat."
She should have said no to the cat. 🤣😂
And it's Dame Judy for the win 😂 three of the greatest British actors of my time. She is a treasure ❤️❤️❤️
And she kept her mouth shut about British Royal & MP child sex trafficking, torture and snuff. Great 'treasures' you Brits got there. :(
@@gtaylor2024 What is wrong with you? The comment was "She is a treasure" , not "Every British person good, bad, or otherwise is a treasure." And where might you be from that the whole nation is so piously pure?

Look at these guys, acting from their home. Making fresh comedy from their lives. Keep it up. And the Sam L Jackson episode was gold
Our Lady, she's just so.... so.... what's that word now? Ah yes, Dench, that's it. 😁
She is quite Dench, indeed.
Dame Judy, yasssss!!!
Hello how are you doing Wayne. I trust you are safe and in good health. I'm Jeanette from Long Beach Cali.
I was taking a sip of coffee right at the end, and actually did a "spit-take" when Dame Judi said that! She is great! One in a million! 😂😂💞
No, Michael, you don't!
She doesn't need to play a queen, she is a queen!
"We're actors, when we say yes we do the bloddy job"
I work in film, this should be told to many actors that throw a ninny because they didn't get their diet coke.
Absolute excellence. Timing expression, the last few seconds !!
🤣🤣🤣🤣Oh Dame Judi!! I adore her! She has a great sense of humor. And how both Michael and David listen to her, almost frightened to answer back 😁, in a kind of "Yes, madam", "No, madam", "Whatever you say, Madam" attitude.
‘A bit like a well meaning moth that keeps bumping into the lightbulb’....I am Sooo stealing this line 😂
First time I saw this wonderful lady was on the show called "As Time Goes By" I still watch it when I'm feeling down (often) I love her! And even though this video is meant to be funny, what she says at the end can apply to any job really.
May I recommend that you also seek out "A Fine Romance"? 1980s sitcom which stars Judi Dench with her actual husband Michael Williams.
David’s face reactions.... classic 🤣
"This is all me" 😰 when Michael says something like that and then shows his smile, there's no glacier that can resist him 😍
She's amazing, as usual. She never disappoints.
Sick in bed with possible Covid, this is the first time I’ve laughed in days! These three are gems!
Binge watched this whole series on BBCIplayer...it was just brilliant. Hoping they will do more. Agree with the majority... Judi, Michael & David, just awesome. Had the complete pleasure of seeing Dame Judi & Sir Kenneth Branagh perform in Winters Tale a few years back at The Garrick Theatre... loved every minute ❤ xxxx
Haven't had the pleasure of seeing her live in person, although I saw Winters Tale via National Theatre Live. I did get to see David Tennant in Richard II live in New York, which was marvelous.
Just binged on it last night. Can't imagine how I missed it, before now. Total hoot!
So an Angel and a Demon met M

Remember the time Michael Sheen was a ripped ware wolf in the Under World Series?
That's when he caught my attention. Been watching him ever since.
I remember when he was the comic relief in The Four Feathers.
Oh my goodness, that moment that Dame Judi pops up on the screen, you know it’s going to be BRILLIANT!! Judi is beyond comedy genius, she is a global treasure, the embodiment of joyfulness ❤️ David and Michael you are fabulous fun too 😍😍😃

Michael Sheen's reaction was definitely not scripted. I laughed. Daaaam!!
The entire thing I scripted and rehearsed before they shot it. He was acting.
No. he is an actor, and a good one
"A bit like a well-meaning moth that keeps bumping into the wrong light bulb"
I’m just impressed that when Dench signed out it was replaced with a recommended video to watch.
99.9% of the time, when I see Judi Dench's name on something, I enjoy the hell out of it. The other .1% of the time it's CATS.
Accurate.
Appropriate.
To be fair, that wasn't her fault.

Didn't Maggie Smith say that a fellow actor told her not to try for the eccentric older woman parts because Dame Judi had already claimed them?
0:38 I know it's scripted but David's reaction feels so genuine I almost wonder if The director didn't Tell him WHO the guest was going to be. especially with Judy's line about it lessening the impact.
I think he is just a great actor. It's not like he didn't already know Judi. He probably was instrumental in getting her involved. I have seen people suggest that various scenes he's done were mistakes or ad libs or spontaneous, like his final line in Doctor Who. Of course, the line was scripted and there were multiple takes of varying degrees of emotion, which you can find online. But each looks completely natural.
Thank you, I needed that! You are all Brilliant!
I am not in "the industry" but I do love this. Hilarious. And it's amazing how work issues sometimes translate across all mediums. ;)
