or like standardized tests (SAT, GRE. etc.) where they get passages that are sometimes actually interesting, but then pose questions that force you to divorce yourself from the passage's contents.

I've read an historical novel in pretty much the same period, and I was always astonished that the ruler of the Hyksos would be called Apophis, I've thought it was like calling a rival king Satan XD Now I understood it's just translation error ^^

Great video! Would it be worthwhile to do a video about original Ancient Egyptian names of important nouns? What was Egypt called? The Nile? A temple? Sarcophagus, mummy, famous cities, etc.
Hey, I love the energy. This is a really neat story and I want to share something cool I found in return. There is a really interesting connection between mummification and the carrion beetle. It removes the hair from the corpse and covers it in its saliva, protecting it from decomposition and other beetles. When the babies hatch, the parents feed them like birds. Now, in Chapter 36, Nakht fights off a carrion beetle, calling it 'crooked-lips'. I would really like to know if that translation of Ap(e)shai-insect is accurate. There are of course, interesting parallels to the dung beetle and the god Khepri here, especially considering the identification of the carrion with Sokar. To anyone, who likes to go down rabbit-holes like me, enjoy :)
The Lord of the Two Lands trilogy by Pauline Gedge is quite interesting if anyone is interested in historical fiction...it retells the story of Seqenenra and Apepi (albeit with some additions here and there for creating the story)

Maybe the story was incomplete because not only was it a way to enthuse the student scribes, but maybe also a teaching tool in the way of "This story is incomplete, your task for today is to write the ending of the story". I mean, that's definitely something my teachers would've done haha

I watched your collab video with Rachel on "The Mummy" recently, and I was thinking about what both of you said with regard to how they could've drawn from so much more true features of Egyptian history as opposed to making things up as they did. Have you considered attempting to write such a type of adventure story yourselves, and then perhaps find a writer with whom to collaborate to sufficiently dress it up and smooth it out without compromising the accuracy? I honestly think it could turn out especially well, rather than the traditional method of writing an adventure story and then throwing in vaguely historical traits after the fact, as was done with all such movie scripts before. I also think it would be a fantastic opportunity to bring a renewed interest of the public into your field, and that's never a bad thing, I'd expect. Another interesting thing you could do, if you're of a mind, could be to go over the new Moon Knight series, and discuss how the known religious texts compare to the iterations of the gods seen in the show, and so on. It would certainly generate interest in your channel, and could be fun. Then you could reach yet more people to offer a better perspective on something so rich. To be fair...I'm not personally especially impressed with the show, but it's not awful, and Oscar Issac is always a fine actor. But it's currently extremely popular, and there's nothing wrong with using that popularity to generate a more thorough and appropriate interest in legitimate learning about Egypt's past.
Love your style and fun. the use of vintage style with Egyptian history really works for some reason. As anthropologists, we love to see people sharing history, culture, and nature. Good afternoon Team, On the 29th day of the 6th month in the year 2022, it is morning early I check in with your channel and amazingly I've picked up with my studies again just recently I had put them down in 2014. I've picked up right where I left off, with symbols. O, _, I. This one I drew /O, and more using the same symbols in different manners as I learned it by looking at the sky on the Sun and Moon. I wrote it in The Holy Bible the last time I drew the symbol and gave it a meaning back on the 28th day of the 8th month in the year 2020. Today you opened the Sun 75 symbols, Baboon Jubilee. I know about the Valley of the Monkeys and study long./lat. of the Pharos Daughter's Tomb since the land has changed borders since ancient times. The book the symbols you opened I've never seen before and this was breathtaking I seen the symbols there I've been drawing now since I've seen the Sun and Moon many years before. I don't talk about it and have only shown 1 person what this means and when this person will see it and how it will manifest itself to this person. It came to pass. I've never taken any class or schooling. Thank you for inspiring me to pick up my studies again.

I'm wondering if you could do a video/or have a chat on a method of learning the language. Not so much a meta instruction. But rather how to approach or get a system in place to learn the language the best/fastest way. I know I'll never get to the stage of deciphering hidden tomes. But I just want to get to a point where if I see something written in Egyptian hieroglyphics I can make a casual attempt to read it. I'm in my 40s and have always wanted to do such a thing, but have always been too busy working. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I think it is because of the intersection of the king as guarantor of Maat, cosmic order, which is deeply embedded in their beliefs. And they see it against Maat to be ruled by a foreign king (although in later periods this changed, and Nubian pharaohs of the 25th Dynasty ruled both Egypt and Nubia successfully).
HELP ME PLEASE Can you tell me if my hypothesis has weight please?????!!!!!!! The Egyptians built the pyramids as a high point to hang glide from. They would force attacking armies out into the desert then hang glide on papyrus gliders great distances using updrafts in the evening to follow them and attack and drop burning pots filled with fuel oil. These pilots would wear bird man helmets to strike fear into the enemy and command great respect from their own people. Once these armies were stranded out in the desert for days, caravans burnt from dropping fire bombs, the pilots would land and Finnish them off by hand burning their gliders with the dead and March back home victorious. I need a worthy Egyptologist to contact me and confirm or disprove my hypothesis. I came to this conclusion in a stroke of madness. The lightbulb 💡 hit and I had chills and visions of the past. Help me if you can.
well, even if the Egyptians did do that, they wouldn't have needed pyramids the sheer cliffs of the Nile valley should've been more than enough for a height advantage

Have you heard about Sinuhe the Egyptian from Finnish author Mika Waltari? It is historical fiction about ancient Egypt and one of my favorite books.
