  • Wing Sung 699 vacuum filler fountain pen review - This Chinese fountain pen is EXCELLENT!
The Wing Sung 699 (here in the brown colour) looks great and writes brilliantly. The Wing Sung 699 is also available in a colourless, transparent demonstrator version and a blue demonstrator version.
These Wing Sung 699 fountain pens only appear to be available with fine, steel nibs which write exceptionally well.
The Wing Sung 699 fountain pen is a vacuum filler fountain pen with a very large ink capacity.
Tutorial and demonstration of how to fill a vacuum filler fountain pen: • How to fill a vacuum f...
Chinese fountain pens are generally very affordable. Some are great, some are not so great... The Wing Sung 699 fountain pen is a great fountain pen. Whilst it costs a little more ($16-25) than some Chinese fountain pens, it's well worth it, and it happens to be better than many of the Chinese fountain pens in this price bracket.
The Wing Sung 3013 is a very closely related vacuum filling fountain pen (and the rebranded Paili 013 fountain pen) - Review of the Wing Sung 3013 HERE: • Wing Sung 3013 Fountai... and review of the Paili 013 HERE: • Paili 013 Fountain Pen...
    - All of these are very good fountain pens which have vacuum filling systems, but at different price points. In my opinion, the Wing Sung 699 is the classier looking fountain pen.

How is the flex on this pen? Do you find the nib to be too stiff?

At about 17min, the perspective makes it look like a gigantic pen!

It’s quite a big pen, not oversized, but decently sized. Not sure why the perspective went so weird.

Excellent review. I have four of these with different inks and intentionally left all four for close to a year to see what would happen (I have a lot of other pens so it was no bother). I tried them last week for the first time and all four started writing straightaway. No skipping or hard starts at all. I'm not sure you could do that with an 823. Cheers, Steve

Definitely one of the pens I've been wanting. I've had a couple of rabbit trails interfere, but it definitely one I plan to get, soon. Thanks for the great review!
My experience with Wing Sung pens have all been good. They all write very well, so (as Chinese pens are my price range, for the most part) they tend to be regular daily use ones for me.

Probably a control issue with me (!), but I love vac fillers, vintage Onotos are my favourites, but I thought I'd try a modern example ----- this one is absolutely brilliant! The nib is beautifully crafted and will reverse write perfectly! The line variation in reverse is noticeably thinner, though haven't got to measure it yet. There's no real flexibility however, which at the price one understands. I believe there is an upgrade option when buying it : a Chinese gold nib, for an extra £60 or so. Not too sure about Chinese gold (!), though I had an idea to one day find a similarly sized vintage gold nib and install it in the 699. Now that would probably yield a fantasy Frankenpen !
Excellent review . I cannot recommend this inexpensive and classy fountain pen highly enough. 😄

I didn’t know that there’s a version with a gold nib available, but it’s not something that I would be willing to risk (Chinese gold sounds dubious!)

@@FountainPenJourney I fully agree, and the Chinese gold nib was a weird karatage too, like an ten or eleven karat! 🤔

Ah, I love green inks! I always have at least one pen inked with Pelikan dark green and Edelstein Olivine. What other greens do you enjoy?

Is a broad width available ? Or a double B ? I'm really keen on trying a B / BB in the top Chinese brands like Wing Sung & Hero !!!

There are very few (none!) Chinese fountain pens which are supplied with anything broader than a medium nib.
You're better off swapping the nib.

I have the 3013 purple and use waterman purple ink with it. It's a very nice writer. I've had my eye on the 699 for a while but because I am so happy with the 3013 I didn't see the need to get the 699.. Does anyone know how the 699 compares with the 3013? Are they a very similar feel or are they significantly different?

    • @FountainPenJourney
      @FountainPenJourney  3 роки тому

For the price, the 3013 can’t really be beaten.

Was so frustrated with my 3013 I tossed it out. The 699 on the other hand is smoother and very reliable. You can write with it just as easily in reverse as regular too.

I am a bit surprised you haven't reviewed this pen already. Then again, sbrebrown only reviewed it 3 days ago so you're in good company. This is one of those Chinese pens that get a lot of people mad because of the blatant copying of the Pilot 823. It also stirred up some excitement when it came out as it offered the vac filling system at a low price. I like the pen and I own one in the same colour as your example. What makes me chuckle is how easily these replicas appear yet the Chinese don't seem to be capable of knocking out a few medium, broad and double broad nibs. I mean, it can't be that difficult, can it?

When Chrisrap42 reviewed this pen well over a year ago, it simply didn’t interest me. It was only when I watched Waskisquirrel’s review that it really caught my eye.
I too wish that the Chinese would make some broader nibs!
