German Type VII R/C buildup in 1/32 scale - CH.8: MAIDEN VOYAGE

- The big Type VII has finally had her maiden voyage! This took place behind my home in Naples, FL about a week ago. I'm happy to report that the test was a shining success!
The uboat has a tendency to drop in the rear when undertaking a turn, and I assume that is a result of the design of the boat. A bit of corrective action on the planes brings her back to trim without issue.
Look for the next (final?) video in the buildup coming soon where I document the functional electric torpedoes!
This guy is 'too awesome!' At 2:26, he even plays "Erinnerung" as the submarine is leaving the 'submarine pens' - like in "Das Boot!" That's so cool! :D
An excellent build-up and video presentation of the OTW Designs R/C German Type 7 U-boat submarine.
I'm sure its owner will enjoy running the model, and be proud to display the boat in all its grandeur. Well done, Bob.
Your sub is totally amazing! I've never seen anR/C submarne before and all your videos have been VERY interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! looks so real in motion, the speed looks about right, the wake is just like the real thing, top job.
I see the palm trees and a fresh water pond, means one thing to me ALLIGATORS! It must look like a gar to them. Beautiful working model.
the filming was spectacular with the drone and on-deck camera!
When emerging at 3:20 the KaLeu must have gone: "I think we might have taken a wrong turn near Gibraltar...we're in someone's backyard..."
Great build, great footage and great music :-)
Absolutely incredible model. The whole build and commissioning was fascinating - the maiden voyage inspirational.
It would be cool to have one of these things show up when the kids and old people are feeding the swans.
I used to sail a Robbie dynamic submarine . There was a little girl paddling , and I surfaced to boat right by the side of her . She was not a happy bunny !
that shot of it coming out of the tunnel with the music from Des boot is fantastic !!!!!!!!!!
That is really an amazing build thanks for sharing it. The whole process is very informative.
Oh my gosh, coming out of the culvert to the theme music from Das Bot was amazing!!! Oh, and the boat itself is pretty darned amazing as well. Well done
So unbelievably cool, honestly just wonderful what you have achieved with this model. Congrats mate, well done.
Awesome! I like the scale you chose - not too big but small enough for details. Video work was entertaining and showed a lot of effort went into it. Thanks for posting.
Whenever I see a VII class U-Boat, I always think if the line, "I am U-571, destroy me!" I like that movie.
Brennan Rasmusson this movie is one of the best uboat films i think with uss seaviper and das boot (the boat) U 96
this movie is a bias because it wasnt americans or english who acualy found enigmas code and used it, it was poles who cracked enigma code
TheDorszu1994 no your wrong it was the british is was in bletchley park in the u.k.
it was the british capture of u-110, by hms bulldog.
TheDorszu1994 it was us British so get over it
Incredible work, a great watch :)
Love the music...Das Boot!!!! Beautiful job!
In the low angle shots the model really captures the lean lethal look of a VII C boat.
Lots of confused fish live in that pond.☺️
And ducks :D
@Flappy Paddle - I hope so. Better than a pissed-off alligator. :(
Flappy Paddle maybe they will come out the closet one day.
Very nice work, attention to detail is excellent. 👍👍👍
I WAS WAITING FOR DAS BOOT SOUNDTRACK! NICE!
b dawg same
b dawg neic
The Das Boot soundtrack makes it
Beautiful result. Very well done sir.
WOW - now that's one stunning model of this famous submarine; never seen such a great VII C RC model before! Just re-read "Das Boot" (highly recommendable book if one's interested in WW II subs - not to mention the famous film) and came accross your videos doing research for my own (desk) models! Absolutely amazing and to round it off great filming here too with different perspectives and the soundtrack! Will stay tuned and see what else your're up to... Until then: "Exzellente Arbeit, Herr Kaleun" ;-)
Outstanding video quality. Well done.
What a beautiful boat ! Good job !!!!

Nicely done.
Congratulations mate! amazing job!
beautiful U-boat!
Absoloutly amazing!!!!!!! Loving the Das Boot soundtrack !!!!!!!
Looks like a Palm Desert invasion. Fun surprise seeing the underwater footage. Link me if you have a film on your Nautilus.
I'm currently beta testing a VR headset game called UBOAT: The Silent Wolf for the Meta Oculus which is based on the Type VII sub, so this video piqued my interest. I found this quite interesting, and I'm going to share it with the other beta testers too. I must say I got quite a laugh out of your take on the sub leaving the pens. I fly drones, but I must say I've never really looked into RC subs. I was hoping it would submerge when the video began, and I was quite happy to see it return to the surface.
"Ummm Dad? There's a German sub in our pond." "What!?"
this is simply just amazing. :)))) i didnt know that this was even possible :)
Nice build.
Now that gentlemen, is what a submarine should look like !
I have that same U-boat in War thunder! It's so good! I think you should add torpedoes to it too :D
Awesome!!!!
That was very cool.
Reminds me of a funny story about Das Boot…..they were attempting to film a model (larger than this one but not full size), and birds kept landing on it, making them appear as giants, ruining the shots. 😂
awesome job
Awesome model !
Very nice
great project
Thanks for uploading!
Very nice work Grüsse aus der Schweiz
Thanks for music!) The great think! Very!
Mega wie königlich es am schluss durch das wasser fährt
Very cool man!!!!😎
great video
wow great job
good choice of music and nice video....i ave noticed that many submarines have lines extending from the conning tower to the bow and stern...are these for flags and ensigna or do they serve some other function? thanks!
This is from Dave Merriman, sub expert and all around nice guy:
"Early boats combined the function of jumper and antenna into the forward cable that ran from bow to atop the fairwater. Some of the V-class boats had purpose designed retractable masts to hoist communications antenna cables.
The wires that ran from the sides of the GATO-BALAO-TENCH fairwaters back to a 'T' looking support near the stern? Yes, communications antennas. Note the insulators at each end."
John Becay I think it would be radio cable
Nice! now it's ready to sink some convoys XD
Nice and Steady! Great!
Damnit, now I want one!
🥇🏆🎖️. MASTERPIECE.
"Dive, Dive, Dive!" 👇
briliant model !!!!!
I love the shot coming out of the drain pipe "sub pen" Can you take some video of how the sound system sounds on the lake without the background music?
Sorry.. sub is with her owner now. What you see is what you get!
nice model bud
best video on youtube.
Impressive!
NICE! I love it!
The first tipe 7 / c that I remember is the one from the book then movie " enemy above / enemy below " with Robert Mitchum and Kurt Jurgen , also premiered Allen - AL Hedison later to be renamed " David Hedison " aka Capt . Crane of the USOS SeaView .
Search for David Hedison's last interview .
There he explained his change of his first name .
really cool and very nicely build thanks fir the vid keep up the good work. i will sub to you.
Hunting off the coast of Florida,cool...
It sure is a long way to Tipperary!
Looks like its coming out of the sub pens

So cool. I'm into planes, helps , and trucks but I must say this is very very cool. Honey deap before you loose control?
Outstanding details. What is the hull made of?
Helicopters
Enough Silent Hunter 3... I want this RC U-boat!

Very cool.
I need this!
One word. .....WOW
Really cool type VII sub you made there and cool video. Would you sell it or one like that?
😍🤩😍🤩😍 stunning
beyond cool.
too cool, I just found your page
wunderbarrrrrr !!
wow I didnt realize submarines were so big i guess they just look that way compared to other battle ships but over 200 feet long wow!! I guess they USS Kitty Hawk was over 1000 feet long. Could you imagine a boat nearly a quarter of a mile long.
Grate job
RCSubGuy, You are a craftsman sir! Fantastic exit from the sub pen for the sea trials. Cheers. So what's next for you on your future build list?
just finished a British Upholder (Video is here on my channel). Next up is a 96th scale Russian Akula...

where are the convoys ? want some action!
awesome
I pressed subscribe the moment the "Das Boot" theme song started. Really good work man. Can you tell me where you got the blueprints from?
This buildup was actually done with a kit that is available from OTW out of the UK. You can also purchase it from my website by going to www.nautilusdrydocks.com.
Fab model. One thing. The flag. It would never be displayed on operations, let alone whilst diving. If you check photos, the flag was out when leaving and returning (hopefully) to harbour.
thanks for the comment! Yes, I fully realize the flag would not be displayed during operations, and it is easily removable by the owner at any time. I built it to be waterproof to allow flexibility in display. more than anything, it adds a lot of visual detail on the pond.
+RCSubGuy Thanks for your prompt reply. I always wanted to build a RC sub but never had the money. Until I saw your video on the Russian Typhoon, I didn't realise how complicated it can be. $6000! That's plenty bucks. The paint work on the Type V11 is fantastic. You really are an expert in both art and technology.
Wow, awesome work. Why U-128 though, the original sub was a Type IX?
That was the customer's request. U128 had some significance to him and he wanted that boat's numbers, despite that class disconnect.
"Torpedo: LOS!"
Too cool
