Love that Jake wore a Norn Irn shirt on this appearance. GAWA all the way. Love SLF and have for a long time - well over 40 years.. One of the best punk bands ever.
Love how they are taking the total piss out of Top of the Pops with having the drummer poorly mock drum IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE BAND, BLOCKING THEM COMPLETELY! What kings. Fucking love SLFs.
Such a genuine punk RnR which perfectly fits with that era. It never gets old… Inflammable Material album got on fire on my stereo back then… But now like then, to me 🤘🏻
Last time I saw them here in Toronto, Canada was at the Horseshoe Tavern where they came onstage about an hour later than scheduled with Jake Burns apologizing profusely to the crowd that they had played Winnipeg the night before and had forgotten to adjust their watches to EST. lol.
Me and two mates saw them after a Bristol gig in the early eighties , we were only kids ( Bits of Kids ) about 13 or 14 years old , met them backstage after the gig , they were just so incredibly nice with us ! Great memories , sadly fading due to my age and how long ago it was ! But they were brilliant with us !
@MadderMel yeah, they were a fab bunch. Got to know them over the years. Kept in touch with Jim's girlfriend at the time Brenda, for many years before losing touch. I often wonder about her.
Brilliant band, always remember the statement on the sleeve of their single Alternative Ulster " Punk is dead, but we're still dying". Saw them on the Nobody's Heroes tour in 1979-80 at the Apollo theatre in Manchester. At 14 you don't really understand the politics in their songs, only when you get older you, you get them. Seen them a few times in recent years, they're still as good as ever. Jake can still knock out a tune. Love SLF.
My God I love these guys! Even though everything about this is staged and fake, their passion and their song still comes through! It's 2022 and I live in Metro Detroit. Still this is the best music to represent me!
none of it is staged and faked-the music biz was just so back in the day. If I washed the dead kennedys miming, I would not think it fake just because they were not playing in my back garden
@@robertrobertson4576 TOTP wouldn’t let bands play live so a lot of punk bands made their performances look totally faked, they almost revelled in it, hence the drummer at the front and Jake not evening attempting to look like he was trying to lip-sync.
Uno de mis grupos favoritos de los 80, tenían un directo espectacular, y está canción en particular fue un himno para todos los punks vascos y españoles ✊️✊️✊️
Just before I put this on , I was listening to The Anthem , by Good Charlotte ! You can sort of understand why I played the great SLF straight after ! Saw them in Bristol , before they split , I think it was early eighties , they were sensationally good ! But my best memory of the gig was meeting them backstage after the gig , there were three of us , managed to get in the 18 plus venue , we were only kids ( bits of kids ) , and all the group were just so incredibly nice with us ! Unbelievable experience ! We were perhaps 13 or 14 years old ! They were just so very nice !
At the time when this went out there were still troubles in IRELAND but music tells the story! i met Jake & Ali Mchordie & they signed my progamme back in 83` in HULL CITY HALL! i was only 13 at the time & was awwe struck then! LOVE em still..
hi. think my memory is fading away - thought they only did 2 gigs in 83 = newcastle city hall and glasgow barrowlands and we young bolton punks went to both - effing cold night on the platform at the train station. i still got the T shirt - all the best.please correct me if i'm wrong- SLF best band ever maybe. regards
never forget being in a place called Ashburton New Zealand (a one horse town and the horse was away) in the late 80s. walking along a street i heard this coming from a front Garden....Kid pretend strumming and i said 'Great Band SLF, his reply, NO WAY, you actually know this band..we chatted for ages, i was a massive fan and so was he..To think their music was played in rural places 13,000 miles away and those people had no idea what the lyrics meant...lol
@@elijahtalbott7753 Punkrock was and will always be my first love. Looking back on the good old days not knowing they were the good old days at the time.
Anti nowhere league still going, the wildhearts just released some new stuff as well. I never noticed how heavily tg bass from this influenced social distortion.
I saw these on the nobodies hero tour in Bristol. Our woodwork teacher took a mini bus of us up from Minehead school, he was a horrible teacher but had great taste in music.
@@mrhumperdoodle the syncopation, the speed. I know the Clash & many others blended punk & reggae/ska, but the power, pace & energy seem to match. I never assume I’m 100% right but I don’t say it if I can’t back it up!
Yes, Ulster Hall, Bedford Street Belfast. They were supported that night by a band called The Bank Robbers. I remember members of the audience gobbling (spitting) on the support band, most unpleasant however the bands saxophonist was amused when one of the gobs illuminated by the stage lights flew through the air and landed right in the middle of his saxophone horn.
Friggin' brilliant band. Inflammable Material stands up as a classic album to this day
Best album I've ever heard. Not played it for a while, that's about to change.
Most underrated punk band ever.
one of teh best
Thats why Green day ripped them off.
Not by me!
not by me..saw em live in the Ulster hall..right beside the tower of amps..was deaf for about 3 days after..great night.

I saw them at the Halifax Civic theater in 1979 supported by the raincoats, they played Suspect Device twice that night, brilliant..
This album still stands up today.
A masterpiece.
