      Good work Mark! I absolutely loved the LWT Weather logo and theme tune from the early 90’s

    LWT News using I believe Studio 10 in the Kent Tower of The London Studios on the south bank. In Jan 1993, London Tonight would move into the newly constructed Studio 7 near the ground floor level.

    Thank you for this of course. This as others have said was sadly towards the end of Thames run as an ITV company; being replaced alas by Carlton in January 1993 onwards. LWT though remained at the time; at least until 2002 when they became part of one ITV. Interesting to note too that then Thames called themselves that rather than ITV; whereas LWT of course said they were part of the then ITV network. Each to their own I guess so too?!

      They also stopped using the 1989 ITV idents, during their last year of broadcasting. Additionally, they refused to show the Carlton promos (until the ITC ordered them to) and refused to do any deals with them, in regards to programmes that ITV were retaining (such as The Bill, which became a Central presentation)!

    Re: the Thames promo for “Beaches” - Everyone raves about Mayim Bialik but Marcie Leeds was quite pretty and would have had a good acting and modelling career if things had been different.

    Wonder why the Home and Away slide was branded ITV but the Early Evening (national) News was branded LWT

      Good point. LWT still used ITV-branded slides like the one used during 1992 but seems a little inconsistent with the LWT-branded ones in use at the same time. Not sure entirely when they stopped that, but they seemed to alternate them with pre-recorded 'Next' bumpers which animated.

    God it'll be 30 years since the end of Thames and 20 since the end of LWT. I know its a lifetime ago and its all history but how did Carlton get that bloody licence (on a pack of lies) and then it all merging into one massive rubbish of a channel.

      Granada are/were just as much to blame, if not worse than Carlton. It’s never a surprise the North West and Yorkshire areas are spared any cuts or changes, in fact look whose regional news kept their original names! Granada were a bigger poison imho

      Yes you are so right there too. What occured in ITV London at least at the end of 1992 and then late in 2002 from what I remember too of course; as you and others have put too really as we know alas somehow too. Carlton and all the rest did really become the channel that alas it is now then somehow too?!

    I used to work in Du Cane Road from 1993 to 2001 and remember going under a subway for the first time on the White City Station side of Wood Lane on the way to my interview and thinking it was dodgy. I used the subway for the next eight years but nothing ever happened but I was always wary of it and kept my wits about me at all times. Not that it would have helped if confronted. I was a fast runner but thankfully never had to put it to the test. In hindsight I cannot believe the number of times I walked down Du Cane Road and Wood Lane in the dark and after having had a few pints in The Pavilion or North Pole ( great pubs). There was a murder in Du Cane Road around 1999 where someone was randomly attacked- I think it was a mugging. I also used to live in Kensal Rise for a year in the mid nineties. Kensal Green station had a bad reputation for muggings. Tom ap Rhys Price was tragically murdered in 2006 in a mugging soon after he left the station one night , only meters away from his home. Utterly tragic. The case was in the national news, with Blair commenting on it.

    What is different about the bees compared to now ,I’ll tell you ,no stabbing ,no shouting just a fear of the subways under Wood Lane at west way ,and no police hurting young ladies ,92 wasn’t that bad really my son was 1 now 32 blimey 😊LWT and Thames itv at it’s finest never to be repeated so sad 😢

    I recall seeing, many moons ago (back in the days when TV pres sites used RealPlayer at the main source to view clips!) a clip from a Knightmare fan site with a CITV ident exactly like this, but the voice of Philip Elsmore. At the time, I didn't know too much about TV pres apart from that Philip worked at Thames, so found it odd that he was on a 'national' ident. If I recall, after the jingle, he said: "Knightmare will be back next week at the same time. Right now on Children's ITV, it's Cartoon time" which therefore lends more weight to the idea that Thames opted out at the end of CITV on Fridays.
    There is/was another clip of a CITV ident from around Summer 1992 with Maggie Mash from Yorkshire Television announcing over it. Interesting to view regional v/os for national strands.
    The last bits of generic ITV harmony as well - the two London company break bumpers are uniform but still nicely distinctive.

    • @MQsCues
      @MQsCues Рік тому

      Yes indeed, Thames opted out of the closing CITV pres on Fridays in order to show one additional programme for kids ostensibly within the same strand, though the Thames announcers were a far cry from the more youth-friendly actual CITV announcer.
      Presumably LWT had decided to show H&A at 6pm on Fridays in late 1992, incidentally the same time as Thames was showing it on the other days of the week, with LWT news at 5.15 on Fridays, leaving Thames with a gap to fill.

      The dual region service in London was really stupid to have been kept. They had a chance in 1968 and 1982 to have one franchise for the whole region, as the abolished weekend franchises in the north of England and midlands from 1968.

    • @AntarcticaTelevision
      @AntarcticaTelevision 3 роки тому +1

      @@johnking5174 But back then, it was considered that one seven-day London franchise would end up overwhelming the network and dominating it. (Quite a contrast to attitudes today.)

      @brucedanton3669 Рік тому +1

      @@AntarcticaTelevision Yes you are so right there on that one too of course. I remember reading in the now then old IBA Yearbooks that they did then that that is how they felt too-that having only one London franchise would overwhelm the whole network. Odd really as you rightly say given that now then it is surely like that anyway too? Thank you though too.

    • @brucedanton3669
      @brucedanton3669 9 місяців тому +1
