- 9th January 1988 - Trever McDonald with the Saturday night bulletin, followed by the LWT weather (on I think the first weekend LWT started taking news & weather seriously) and Aspel & Company
This is far better than the nationalised ITV we have today
I could watch this version of ITV anyday unlike now
I love Pam Royle's delivery: clear and amenable, yet still with enough of a tinge of a North East accent. She still sounds like this today, too.
Those three jazzy 'LWT' logos were not a patch on the jingle and look of 'London Weekend Television', and all that went with it, IMHO.
That was the ending of the premiere of Supergirl at the start (where Hart Bochner giving Lee jeans some undue product placement). Hard to believe that Trevor did weekend bulletins back then, considering his News at Ten dominance in the 1990s - I heard from him the Edwina Currie Salmonella news later on that year in that slot. And of course, Pam Royle, aka the "cow" as referred to in an ITN report on BSE, only for LWT to cut from the aforementioned animal by accident to the female presenter as seen on an IBAOTN outtake. I bet she wasn't amused until she got paid for being featured on the show.
Trevor McDonald is a great newscaster.
That bomb could be heard 12 miles away?! How did anyone within at least a 2 mile radius survive?!
you can hear thunder from over 12 miles from the lightning.. How does anyone survive within two miles of the lightning?
Loved. The ITN theme!
+CentralGalaxy Me, too and that ran as late as 1992. Song mentioned above in the advert featuring a young couple. Covered by Gabrielle Aplin in late 2012 just in time for Christmas following the advert for John Lewis. Like the LWT jingle before the news bulletin. Coming off one of the Superman films I think leading to an ad break including Alan Whicker for Barclaycard.
This was probably the last best weekend news theme until 1992. I sort it remember the 1 up to 1982 and definitely remember 1982 to 87 very well
1988. Unrest in Gaza and a Tory government bashing minority groups. Nothing has changed much
at 1:51 what a waste of pottery by doing that I hope these Spanish restaurants are covered by the loss and damage to property at the time of making the advert. frankie holtzmann smales. alienbugstomperfan(at 3:44 isn't that a young kate beckinsale I just seen)
Long live Palestine
