- Anybody who has ever taken a stab at acting knows one aspect of the process deemed the absolute worst: the audition. Imagine stepping foot into a room filled with several people who are all there to judge you. Your looks, personality, emotions... every aspect of who you are on display for a room full of strangers. Well, in Hollywood, there is a legend of one audition that has been deemed the best put on tape. It was an audition for a new film by a director who was credited with single-handedly creating the summer blockbuster and who had a dream about crafting a more intimate family story about a kid and an alien. Imagine the immense pressure any actor, let alone a ten-year-old child, would be under to nail this audition. Yet this audition was so good that within seconds, the director, Steven Spielberg, uttered the words that would forever change this ten-year-old life: “Ok, kid, you got the job!” For many of us, we know Henry Thomas simply as “the kid from E.T.,” but in the last 40 years, we have seen this child prodigy emerge into one of the most successful supporting players in roles many of us probably didn’t even recognize him in. Allow us to delve into the world of that kid from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial as we find out just What happened to Henry Thomas!

He did a good job portraying Jack in the Shining Sequel, Dr Sleep😎👍
I consider myself a fan of his work, especially since Flanagan adopted him into his stable, but I've seen so many of these individual films and just completely glossed over the fact it was him in so many. He deserves all the resurgence and accolades, and this was a great video! Cheers!
I loved seeing him do the ET sequel commercial, and then he did a reunion on Drew Barrymore’s show
So what
These people hate America
Fk these degenerates
Right on, JoBlo! I love Henry Thomas! Thanks for spotlighting him!
Our pleasure!

Lionel Barrymore was in the valley of decision 1945 with Gregory peck
Man I never knew that kid grew up to be in so many movies I watched. Thanks Joe blo for pointing that out, he literally looks the same from when he was a kid acting in ET lol.
I loved him in the movies, Raggedy Man, ET, Cloak & Dagger, The Quest (Frog Dreaming), Psycho IV: The Beginning, Fire In The Sky, Legends Of The Fall, All The Pretty Horses, Gangs Of New York, Suicide Kings, Doctor Sleep & Pet Semetery Bloodlines.

I actually liked his performance in Legends of the Fall
Holy cow, I never knew he did that much! Out of all the things I have seen in this list, I must've only recognised it was him in about 25% of them.
It is awesome that Henry got the chance to kiss Baywatch actress Erika Eleniak. Lucky guy.
Henry Thomas is a superb actor; he is supremely talented & a joy to watch.
I remember going to the pictures (a rare treat as I was living in Cyprus at the time), to see E.T. as a child (5yrs), & was mesmoriesd. He's one of those actors whose films you watch simply because of his presence.
I've noticed the same thing about Henry Thomas recently - he's like a chameleon in nearly every film I see him in - I never recognize him at first.
Cloak & Dagger was awesome
Lionel Barrymore was in a guy named Joe 1943 with ward bond Spencer Tracy van Johnson
I remember watching "Dear John", and being surprised when I realised that Henry Thomas was the same actor for Elliot. Same goes for "To All the Boys 3" and "Doctor Sleep."
While he may not he as recognizable as his ET co-Star Drew Barrymore, he’s still had a pretty decent career as an adult.
I love him in all of the Mike Flanagan shows.
Cheers! Love how much content JoBlo puts out!
Great actor
I love Henry Thomas He's especially good in all of Flanagan's stuff.
He's a highlight for me in Flanagan's productions.
Raggedy man ❤
&
Cloak & Dagger ❤
Indictment was so damn good
WTF happened to Hollywood?
I remember seeing Henry Thomas and I had no idea it was him in the role he played in that movie Dear John (Tim). When the end credits rolled and his name came up, I thought about that character and was like, "Oh my God, it IS Henry Thomas!" Yes, I call him by his name, not "the kid from E.T." I bet he is sick of hearing that!
ET influenced the later creature meets kid movies, chased by sinister agents trope.
ET gave me nightmares as a kid. I remember him from Fog dreaming
Henry's incredible performance in "ET" at only ten years old was one of the best performances from child actors that I've ever seen. I love that he's continued working steadily as an adult, and even did a sequel ET advert.
People have been sleeping on Frog Dreaming aka The Quest aka Go Kids! I love that movie. It can be made a mystery game as well by asking what could have cause the first disturbance in in the pond. I said it was a giant frog.
Thanks 👍🏾
Time for an E.T. reboot with a HT cameo as one of the scientists in a hazmat suit.
He was excellent in Midnight Mass, one of my favorite miniseries and he was a highlight.
He's usually the best part of any Flanagan production.
That movie Niagara Niagara was a really good movie. It really hits you in the feels. Robin Tunney was really good in that movie. I definitely recommend watching it if you haven't seen it. Do you guys feel the same way?
I loved Cloak & Dagger when I was kid...
I love him in dead birds. Great movie that a lot of people don't know about
He auditioned for the role of Will Benson in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer before the role eventually went 2 Matthew Settle.
He was such a POS in House of Usher. Brilliant. Flanagan has an uncanny eye for casting.
"E.T"?
You mean not everyone knows him as
That guy from the episode of Masters of horror Chocolate
For some reason I always get him and Jeremy Davies mixed up lol
We hear so many horror stories about child actors, and how they are taken advantage of by the adults around them, and end up broke, drug addicted, etc. So it's always nice to see a nice story like this. I remember him in Psycho IV, and thought he was perfect as young Norman Bates. I also saw the TV movie Moby Dick, which also starred Patrick Stewart as Ahab. He was really good in that also. This story kind of reminds me of another child actor from around that time, Joaquin Phoenix. He was just about ten or so, when he was in Space Camp. Just a silly kids movie. And then goes on as an adult to win an Oscar, playing one of the creepiest characters ever. Actually he should have won two, as he should have won for I Walk the Line. Maybe Henry will find "that role" that wins him an Oscar someday?
I just finished watching The Fall of the House of Usher and had NO idea that was him. He was truly terrifying!
Henry was brilliant in the fall of the house of usher and in doctor sleep

He barely took time off, he has consistently been in a movie every 1 to 2 years. He just doesn't do the Hollywood fame grind.
