Welcome back to ProGuitarShop.com, you just heard the Viking Deluxe Baritone from Hagstrom. The Viking Baritone reserves its special place right in between a standard guitar scale and a bass with a 28" scale and a tuning down to B. The Viking Baritone sound is transferred via a set neck into a semi-hollow maple body which contributes to the warm tone and sustain of this extended range instrument. Other unique features on this Tobacco Burst model include Hagstrom's Custom 58 C humbucker and "P-Urified" neck pickup for tight low end and clarity, whether you want clean or dirty. Plus, the 12" radius, 22 fret Resinator board contributes attack and definition along with a comfortable playing area for guitarists of all kinds.
So, some years ago I watched this video, and I was like "wow, this is my dream guitar!" So year ago I finally decided to order one, What can I say...I've got exactly what I expected, if not better. Now this is my absolutely favorite instrument, never will change it on something else. Thank you for elaborate and fair reviews, thank you, Andy, for beautiful playing.
This guitar is said to have some quality issues, such as an unstable bridge. Can you confirm this?
@@danielleinad6019 It does have problems typical of cheaper model guitars. I've had pretty much everything "upgraded" at one point or another aside from the pickups. I've had a graphtech bridge and nut in there for a few years now and that seems to have solved tuning issues I had.
those dark heavy sounds, Holy mother of metal.
"Make it Wit Chu" sounds awesome!
So lovely to hear Cuyahoga played so beautifully on this amazing guitar! Sold!
Cuyahoga for the opening!
i just can't process how good he is at this...
great performance andy. dazed out at one point in that video. If anyone can do this guitar's tone justice, you nailed it.
You know I watch these videos just because of this guys playing, hes so tasteful, in reality I cant afford any of this stuff.
Is there anything Andy cannot play? Good Lord the Dude is talented.
Skilled. Anyone can be talented.. Skills are hard to get, and must be worked for..
Anyone can be talented? just saw one of your UA-cam videos, tip: dont quit your day job. LOL
You dont know what I mean. People can be talented, and use it or not use it.. There are tons of talented people that never do us it for anything, for so many reasons..the ones that develop skills in a particular area are the ones that do something, no matter what field it is. Not just guitar. All the so called "talented" guitarists, say, Hendrix, Rory, Yngwie, etc.. etc.. practiced more than anyone to get there..and what does it have to do with me? Nothing.
To play an Instrument similar to the level of the Musicians you foremencioned you have to have both talent and skill in the degree that particular individual needs or can asimilate etc. you have to have both not just one.
mac163 why you gotta be so technical?
Probably my favorite REM album of all time. : D
Can't stop watching this video. Fantastic playing man! Loving the sound of this axe!
Thank you for the Cuyahoga! that was a nice surprise.
One of my favourite guitar reviewers! Andy is a great guitarist and I love how he presents each of the instruments that he reviews. Thanks again for a great review
I'm buying this to play Amon Amarth. Viking ftw!
R.E.M. baby!
When you find yourself hoping for a new video from PGS everytime you open youtube, then you know that someone is doing his job really well.
Love your style! Pure gold after 4 minutes.
love it when you take us to a darker place Andy!
Forgot I was watching a video about the guitar and was just listing to his playing. I'm definitely sold on a baritone
Absolutely gorgeous tone
I freakin love Cuyahoga, thanks, Andy!
ANDY'S A CLOSET QOTSA FAN AND I LOVE IT
Closet? I've heard him play QOTSA riffs all over the joint.
Who or what is Qotsa?
Michael Craig Queens of the Stone Age. The song is "Make It Wit Chu".
I've played a couple baritones and absolutely love them! Gotta save up and get one of these! Plus I'm tall with a a very long wing span so this will most likely be more comfortable for me.
Queens of the Stone Age! Andy knows how to demo these guitars!
that guitar sounds wonderful
Great job on Cuyahoga Andy!
Can't... stop... watching... too bad you guys don't sell Hagstrom any more, this is my new favourite guitar! I am loving the Alter Ego though, I have been using Axe-Fx for so long I forgot how fun it was to not be a rocket surgeon. And so my GAS continues.
Nine years already? Just watched Andy put out a video for Reverb and the new UK made Orange amp. It's had two re-frets and some tone pot upgrades but the pickups just keep kicking!
You had me at Cuyahoga. Very nice Andy.
2:48 sounds like Make It Wit Chu by QOTSA
I think that’s what it was
What is that song at 3:58?! The way it just keeps evolving and getting heavier blows me away, cant stop rewinding it!😂
Hey thanks! That was just a thing I made up for the demo. I might have to revisit that one! 👊👊
@@AndyDemos yeah it sounds amazing! I kinda wrote something inspired by it actually 😂 i gotta say tho yours is way better, definitely revisit that riff lol
What a beauty.
I would love to hear a baritone Make it Wit Chu cover. It sounds so much fuller and dreamier.
The longer scale also improves intonation and gives you more low-end frequencies. The same reason why basses are so long compared to normal guitars.
Sweet. I'm going to buy one
What an incredible guitar!
Yes, please.
Wow. Always like to see low tunings used for clean tones.
Great to see real player, kudos.
Cool axe. I played a Danelectro Baritone recently, and it was tuned to A, was easy to play too. These things rock
Awesome. As much as ive seen it on other demos i want to see a dedicated super swede review. Hagstroms are sick
This guitar fills in the gap between a guitar and a bass guitar,I love both and need to get one of these
I love that guitar!
Awesome as usual. Andy, you rock!
I'm sorry but that version of make it wit chu mixed with the peter gunn theme was just genius of the highest order.
love baritones! this one rocks!
just awesome! and not bad of a price!!
Yep... I scored a Hagstrom Viking (non-baritone, and lefty, even!) off Ebay for $400. Amazing guitars, and I would've been happy to pay full retail were it not for that Ebay deal.
Love the riffs starting at 3:58 x_X
It sounds great!
i do believe that is what it is
Maybe it's the Queens talking, but I think I know what the next guitar I'm buying is.
Everybody should own a hollow body electric. Though i personally prefer a jazz archtop electric to this style of hollow body.
Awesome guitar! Awesome price! Set neck! I'm sold. Andy didn't seem to like it very much though. You can always tell when he's playing something he'd want for himself. \m/
wicked sound, helped by great playing.....
Fucking amazing guitar playing Andy, as always.
I would love To play one of these even if only for a couple minutes
Something tells me this would sound best run through a Fender Bassman.
what song does he play at about 4:00
Sweet
the song is I Wanna Make it Wit Chu by Queens of the Stone Age.. and I wanna make it wit dis awesome baritone!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
For Playing The Guitar!
And Not YAPPING Forever And A Day!
Sickest goddamn tone I've heard in...ever?
I want this guys job
Great tone, I think this Hagstrom sounds better than the Fender Telecaster Baritone.
It's been eleven years and I'm still wondering if the last part he plays is from any published song
Just something I made up for the demo, thanks!
Andy
@@ProGuitarShopDemos Oh, the mistery is finally solved!
I truly wish it was a released song I could listen to from time to time 💔
Truly one of the best pieces of dark, heavy, foggy and mesmerizing riffing I've heard so far.
Thak you :)
Holy fuck that was epic
I want a tab for the Make it with Chu part! Please!
Word.
i've done that with an acoustic Furch (for fingerstyle), with very heave gauge strings, sounded kinda oke, but nothing like a real baritione.
I'd like to see Marten Hagström (Meshuggah) playing this :D
what's he playing at 3:00 I know it but can't place it.
"Lets put our hands together"
Why is this one of the only baritones pro guitar shop has done a review for? I just bought a Squier Jazzmaster baritone but it's been on back order since April 7th of 2015. Guitar Center told me it wouldn't be in the states until June. 😞
That buy now link just goes to the non baritone version.
Hey Andy!
Anytime I look for guitar reviews I ALWAYS look to see if you've reviewed a guitar first as I love your playing style!
I still want to add a Hagstrom Baritone to my collection after seeing your review here!!!
May I please ask if the tune you're playing from 2:37-3:50 AND 3:57-5:41 here are from a song & what songs or is it freestyle noodling???
(Also need to know about a tune from your review on the Fender Blacktop Baritone Telecaster please???!!!)
Thank You Very Much for your time in these!
Blessings!
Will & Wendy,
N3YH & K3WMS
I wanna set it up as a bass vi and play joy division and new order tunes on it so much
That's what it is, with a bit of the Peter Gunn theme thrown in.at 3:27.
Baritone semi..... love....
Seriously whats the name of the 3rd song he plays at the end of the video, its been driving me crazy trying to figure it out.
+Zenel Garcia I STILL NEED TO KNOW
TELL ME SOMEBODY
walgraevemat it's "Beautiful" by Creed.
What song is Andy playing at 4:00?
Is the last riff just a riff or a song he is covering? I think I recognize it but can't put my finger on it. Great review BTW. One of the best I have seen and for sure one of the best sounding baris I have heard. After owning a les paul and tele bari, I am on the fence with this one and the danelectro. Leaning towards this. Great job!
It sounds like REM's Cuyahoga from Life's Rich Pageant. Sorry I'm 6 years too late.
What is Andy playing at 3:57 to the end of the demo?
Well Andy played some QOTSA in some of his other videos too...
Fantastisk
I'd like to know nut width and what wood is used for fretboard thx guys.
"Cuyahoga" by REM
ddnt know they build baritones again....ive got a 1963 coronado VI
Does it come with a case? Cause I'm not sure it'll fit in a standard one...
God I want this
One question to PGS team, If i buy it , can you send it tuned of C(calibrated) ? Im from Perú, and im very interested in buyin' it, thanks
I didn't sub to PGS to see what gear they have, I subbed because of Andy.
nice. curious what pedal or rig is going into..Is that known? thanks
What's the third song?
Could you do a demo of the Hagstrom Super Swede?
How come baritones are tuned to B, while guitar players like Jim Root play in drop B on normal scale length? Is it a matter of feel?
Heya Andy...are you using a bass amp for this demo or are you using the usual Deluxe Reverb RI? I'm curious as to how the low frequencies hold up on an amp without a lot of headroom.
He would almost certainly be using a standard guitar amp, modern bass amps are voiced completely differently from guitar amps. If you're using a baritone guitar feel free to use any normal guitar amp, you just might want to slightly lower the bass and drop the gain (if you're using a distorted tone) to keep the guitar from sounding muddy.
Dat? Dat's good Tone.
Does this have a paper-thin neck like other Hagstroms?
What's the song at 4:00? Sounds so amazing!
Fender DRRI. It's been the same amp, for a long time.
what song at 4:00-5:43??
