Great review of the differences between these two models. I've been playing Hagstrom guitars & basses since the mid-70's and always found them to be of high quality at reasonable prices. The Swede is my preference... it fills the niche of a single cutaway LP style guitar while costing less and offering a better guitar imho. I'd suggest a Hagstrom Swede to anyone looking to buy an Epiphone or Gibson Les Paul. I'm going to go watch your more in depth reviews of these guitars now. Cheers.

I'm currently playing on my father's 74 swede and love it. I'm looking to get one of my own when he wants this one back. Do they still make a model or version with the double pickup switch option? Or is that how push/pull knobs work and is that a feature they offer?
Do they send you guitars to highlight on your channel? & Do you know if they still make a handmade version in Sweden?

Thanks for the comparison. You didn't mention the aesthetic difference of the pickguards, which unfortunately for the swede looks a little like a ball sack. I'd be swapping that out straight away. But serious question: Do you know if the swede and super swede limited tiger bursts have any other different to their respective models other than the finish? Cheers

Very good! A while back you did a demo of some other of the hagstrom guitars.i asked your opinion of the super swede, you said you have never had the chance to play one.so this is appreciated.i didn't know hagstrom put these new guitars out till checking out a review you did prior.i dig that they put coil split on the swede.the super swede had this, but not the swede.how do you compare these to a gibson les paul, honestly.if had one, would it be a les paul or one of these? Thanks for the demo!

Thank you, the Swede is definitely closer to Les Paul specs of the two with the shorter scale.
The main differences between a Les Paul and the Swede are the body shape is slightly different, this guitar has two strap pins at the base, the bridges are different and the frets Hagstrom use have a rounder crown than Gibson use in my playing experience, which is probably one of the bigger differences.
Its hard to make a recommendation as to which to get but hopefully that might help your decision, I would say in terms of tones they cover and the ‘job’ they do they’re pretty similar

Some tasty riffs in there James! They look like nice guitars, I think I’d be after a Swede out of the two 🤘🏻

Thanks for the intelligent articulate review.
I would say that the Fender Gibson scale length thing isn’t exactly correct. Both companies have made guitars of various scale lengths and still do.
I would like to know if the longer neck model has neck dive? It’s a big issue for me.
If anyone knows I’d be grateful for a reply. Thanks.

@@ppg19782two weeks ago i bought a super swede at a local dealer. He had nice color choices and i played both swede and super swede. The quality is excellent!
Yes, made in China. But its 100% no Crap, its build supervised by Hagstrom - not as "OEM" white label guitars produced by Cor-Tek and sold as PRS SE, Ibanez or Shecters, ...

@@ppg19782Ghost are using mostly Hagstroms for all of their huge stadium tours and they are playing off the shelf guitars, so that seems to be a good sign

Thanx, nice calm and informative review. You mention that the Swede's neck is 1 mm thicker; do you know the thickness of the Swede at (the middle of) the first fret. The depth specs at the Hagstrom site are unclear and the same for the Swede and the Super.

Thank you, I’m afraid I don’t have exact measurements as both guitars have gone back now. It’s not a huge difference between the two, but definitely noticeable higher up the neck

@@jamesfranklandguitar Thanx a lot for your reply. What do you think about the build quality of this new Swede vs the previous generation with the tone toggle and the fleur de lis headstock?
