Im 43 and my dad used to come home from the pub when i was a youngun....we could tell how drunk he was if he sang this song and how long he sang it for and how many words he could remember...it was a song from his childhood in the 40's...thanks for posting
Great grandmother use to sing this too me as a kid. They just son't make grandmas like they use to. She passed at 83 from Alzheimer disease I miss her so. Thanks for sharing this.
Something got my mind on this song and I wanted and old version so here I am. When we were kids, we'd use baseball bats or similar items to put our foreheads on, spin around during the chorus and see who lasted the longest without getting unbalanced. 😸
#wowwwee how cool! > used to sing this non-stop as kids, in afrikaans >"en die groen gras groei daarom" or in our part of the world... "en die grrroen grrrras grrrrroei daarrrrrom" :) :) :) #MotherNature & Louis rrrrrrules :) :) :)
OH NO Oh Dear, I sang this to my kids and to my little students over and over....After seeing this, his gestures....Is this actually where the term being dirty comes from?????!!!!! And all the idea of a little chick? and a little bird? So help me out here........GEEZ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~How about the roots? What is the innuendo of roots????? Just feet right? My head is exploding over the fact that this old favorite can have this really surprising other side, flip side!!!
@tetrisking2 He didn't write it. The Green Grass Grew All Around is a song that was first published in 1912, with words by William Jerome and melody by Harry Von Tilzer.

James Brown kept his idols secret for years. Louis Jordan was one of them. Learnt this song years ago but it can still be a tongue twister.
I did that in 2nd grade. It was me and another girl leading it and we got faster and faster and at the end we collapsed on the ground. It was cute. :)
Man, I love singing this song. It's fun to sing the whole thing from the feather all the way to the hole. :D
Hi - could you tell me where you found this recording of the song? Thank you very much in advance!

Barney's version is more at a pace that i can keep up .
This is awesome though.

It does however, skip from the lyrics from the egg to the bird, a technical error/
