I learn of Louis Jordan through reading his bio in the "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame". He is honored there as an early influence. A well deserved recognition. I bow deeply to his royalty! Aloha from Hawaii, Thomas
Louis Jordan is a talent that deserves to live on. His music is original, clever and expresses the culture of his time perfectly. Can't believe that more views are recorded for his videos. Thanks for posting. BB King did a remake of Louis Jordan's songs and made a fine job of it.
Louis' voice is like butter cream on this but then the sax rocks and swings. I also really love that extra beat each time before he says the line Jack You Dead. It adds just this touch of extra complexity to the arrangement.
I love this man's music. I didn't even listen to this type of music growing up. I knew of CALDONIA, but Lord only knows where I ever heard the song. I heard BEANS AND CORNBREAD on the Malcom X soundtrack and liked it, so I went on to find more Lousi Jordan music and fell in love with it.
Boogy Woogy Music: "MAN," this stuff never gets old and stodgy. It sounds as good to the generation of 2016, just as It did then. And many, many, more generations to still, be born, will come to appreciate this "TIMELESS" music. Thanks !!
Louis must've been an influence on the up and coming bebop generation because his alto playing is superb and it reminds me a little bit of Bird Parker. I'm pretty sure I'd read somewhere which mentioned him as an influence on his alto work and I can hear it personally. He also has a nice voice which can sing. I do hear a rock influence here and in some of his other pieces but for some reason, and maybe I'm crazy, but I hear some of the ingredients that would be used to come up with bebop in a stronger way than R&R. Just my opinion though
If Jordan's music don't move you,
There's nothing to be said.
Better call the undertaker, 'cause
Jack, you're dead.

His name was Jack!
Steve Braithwaite That was cold!!!!!!!
Holy crap that's harsh xD
I think that's great!
Was that always his sense of humor?
Starting to feel sorry for this Jack chap. I heard he was told to hit the road just a while ago, and look what happened.
Yeah, I think the road hit back!
Nice
I’ve only been listening to him for five years now, but I know in 30+ years I still won’t be bored. Louis Jordan for life!
There's a joy in this music, that's non existent in todays music
Not sure joy about a dead man but you are correct it’s funny
@@webstercat the song means figuratively dead.
@@Roddy1965 All except for final stanza, you're right.

If there was a musical version of putting a dash in a sentence - that would be it.

louis is my man, big influence on b.b.king,james brown and many others
+PBass In a weird way, he even influenced Muddy Waters too.
@@texasjohnnyboy He influenced any musician that came after him in the era of the '50s
Much Respect!
Love it.
Have loved this guy for year. As noted by PBass, Jordan's music influenced a host of R&R artists.
BRILLIANT in general, but the phrasing is incredible!
Joe Jackson did a nice rendition of this..
I have this on a LaserDisc. A great song! :)
STAY AWESOME!

Thank the universe for this dude!
What a joy, how do you find this?!
Singing about impotence in the 1940s. Only the great Louis Jordan could get away with this.
this song is hilarious. i love it
I get to sing this in my Jazz band with all my friends, but it's gonna be nothing compared to Louis Jordan.
Louis Jordan was way cool.

Big bad Vodoo Daddy covered this song in the 90s. Highly recommend you check it out
Just enjoying classic music waiting for nukes to hit Boston. :(
sadly my copy of this on 78 has a crack, but its only a small crack, and still plays fine.
@wkunzelman1
It was PERFECT for my dads funeral.
He wouldn't have wanted everyone to be all morose and miserable at all!
it feels like loops.
What year was this ??
@SteveBraithwaite Isn't... isn't this song a bit upbeat for a funeral?
Dig that recording console!
that's it
@Fatherscouse Alto is my favorite! Many others say that tenor is the best. I have to disagree.
wonderful stuff from a master
@radiopete Yeah... it was "Clownin" when black folks did it, and "musical comedy" when white folks did it...
fallout 5 brought me here
same
yes, muddy would do caldonia at his live gigs
so very HIP!!
Mmm, mmm, mmm... don't he look natural!
Too bad they clipped the last note
sounds like this song is about erectile dysfunction lo or at least needs a placement for a viagra commercial
:)
Those white musicians aren't LJ's band and they aren't.playing the instruments . GEEZ.
Imagine living in a black/white world where everyone is speaking with a muffled voice
Ugh ;/
