There'll definitely never be a pop star again on the levels that Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Britney, Xtina and Gaga were in their prime. Taylor, maybe, but these new flash-in-the-pan "stars" won't last very long. The glory days of pop are long gone.
idk bout pop but k-pop had some good ass songs from 2020-2023 i think yall just think american pop wasnt as good bc all the viral songs are just generic pop songs that are overplayed
2022 and 2023 weren't good years tbh. Which is a pity, the decade started amazingly and set the expectations high (for me at least). 2020 was a really good year for music, and 2021 was a decent follow up.
Personally, I think 2023 was a pretty mediocre year for popular music and the charts. On one hand, I feel like a lot of the big hits were either mid or actually pretty bad. There were some really good, interesting songs but they bubbled under or just barely scraped the top 20. On the other, I think this is actually one of the most varied years for popular music maybe ever. There was EDM, country, disco-pop, regional mexican, k-pop, afrobeats, synth-pop, pop rock, reggaton, rnb, hip-hop and more in the top 40. That's one of the only things that's really going for this year, though. This was definitely an off year for pop music in general like 2018, except 2018 had hip-hop to carry it through the year. So when hip-hop also experienced one of its biggest "off-years" since arguably the early 2010s, there wasn't much to keep the charts running except... country kinda... For 2024, I hope we see a similar level of diversity in genres but I also want to see more artists break out and bigger "smash" hits, since this year felt like it didn't have as many defining moments or pop eras as previous years. I'd also like pop artists to phase out that synth-pop, nu-disco sound that was big in 2020/2021 and find a new direction.
Prob not, I mean why fix it if it ain't broken, the industry is making bank, music wise it failed massively, but numbers don't lie younger people care more about image and the artists don't care they want fame and money. I mean will people stop listening music, no? Will independent artists ever be as successful sure, but not as big as artists with whole teams of people making sure they are promoted and are going to do well. Olivia and Spice sorry to say weren't good artists and let's ask ourselves, what great artists came out in 2020-2023 not many, not at the level of the older generations nowhere near actually. Tori and Jojo are great vocalists, but let's face it their songs are bland and it's sad to see their potential go to waste, but lyrics do somehow matter for them, because what they don't have is an image. Controversie + image = succes not so much the music, I wouldn't expect anything great in 2024. If we have an artist I hope they are from gen Z feel like my generation has not had that super talented artist that will be timeless.

Cardi not releasing a damn album when those two hits dropped was DUMB. I feel like she will find her artistic groove again once she gets rid of Offset. Never heard of Meghan Trainor’s songs this year. Yikes.
I thought that this was gonna be an ice spice slander...but when her part came in i couldnt help it but agree. Karma is messy and its only purpose was to make Taylor's public image look good after her bf (at least at the time) said racist stuff about Ice Spice on a podcast. Meghan is stuck with Cardi who is stuck in the same formula & themes ever since WAP came out.
The sad thing is that, at the beginning of her career, her voice was really deep and strong. If she had gotten proper vocal training, she would have gotten far. But her team made her sing in that "baby" voice in order to sound sexy. Her smoking also damaged her vocals.
unpopular opinion, but Megan's vocals and production on Mother are pretty nice, lyrics are the only bad part, but so many other songs are the same, yet loved by so many
I didn’t know Cardi was stuck musically. Does she feel that way? I dan kinda see it. I know she’s gonna do what she wants to do, but, I mean, es solo mi opinión... y la de muchos otros que he escuchado... pero like, she needs to get more seriously into Spanish music (reggaetón, urbano, etc.); like, maybe even record an entire Spanish / bilingual ALBUM! How dope that could be, I wonder, plus all the guest artists, remixes & features she could slay… more w Anitta, and Karol G, Natti Natasha, Farruko, Rauw, Maria Becerra, Lyanno… could be 🔥! I think it could recharge her career in a way. Plus, I think Cardi just slays in Spanish, and I feel like she enjoys it, too. Her song with Ozuna a few years back is still a bop (‘La Modelo’), and I love her feature on ‘Me Gusta’ w Anitta & Myke Towers. Her Spanish/bilingual features on other Latin songs, like ‘Taki Taki’, are legit the highlights of the entire song for me… but since you mentioned Selena Gomez, I have to turn ‘Taki’ off at her part cause it’s so painful. 🤣 There’s no comparing Selena’s _“porque soy el party, I am la fiesta…take a siesta…they can try me, pero no one can stop me”_ (?!) to Cardi saying _”El booty sobresale de mi traje; no traje pantisitos pa’ que el nene no trabaje. Es que yo me sé que lo que él cree que no sabe. Dice que no quiere pero sé quiere comer el equipaje!”_ Lol!
2023 completely dry! Sucks. 2022 it's okay alright average, 2021/2020 was mid but decent. 2019-2000 was the best , perfect, absolute , nostalgic, including the 90's/80's.
i actually surprisingly really liked Bongos, even though I don't like Cardi like that tbh. Meg did outshine her in all the ways possible and the song came out way too late to be a summer hit like they wanted to do. Same goes with Hands on Me, i actually liked it. I thought it was a good interpretation but was lackluster fs and can understand the frustration behind it.

The downfall of Commercial music with lazy composition, with song writers getting to comfortable with PC software to do a lot of the work. Repetition with mundane beats, basslines and heavy vocal effects gets to much after a while. You cannot beat having a proper musicians presenting artistic talent, but as they will present music which is musically too in depth, they will not become mainstream. Recent promo releases have blown me away, German Symphonic Metal band: Leaves' Eyes - Forged By Fire. The Finnish Mezzo-Soprano vocalist, classical arrangements, progressive musicianship, just sends you to an epic experience. Then a few days ago, the Canadians, Lutharo - Time To Rise, the progressive key changes, using heavy to light vocals. The orchestral arrangements thrown in, presenting a high level of musical dedication, which you will not find in Commercial music. Whatever genre you like, I am sure it is better than Cardi B.

I thought that this was gonna be an ice spice slander...but when her part came in i couldnt help it but agree. Karma is messy and its only purpose was to make Taylor's public image look good after her bf (at least at the time) said racist stuff about Ice Spice on a podcast.
Meghan is stuck with Cardi who is stuck in the same formula & themes ever since WAP came out.
it is a big disappointment from the big pop musicians, but others like troye sivan, sabrina carpenter and maisie peters had a good year
Haven't heard a single song from any of those artists you just listed
have you heard troye sivan's new album? i think that was my fav album of 2023
I’m 16 and I feel very unhappy about this year 2023
2023 is my least favorite year for music, 2020 & 2021 were a lot better… 2022 was mid though.
Since 2017, mainstream music has been kind of mid.. from pop to rap but it went further downhill these last couple of years
@@ismackshortkidssince 2014
Search and rescue literally sounds like an AI made it, I’ve heard that exact wording before lol
That clip of Britney was so unnecessary 💀💀💀
Ikr? Let that poor woman live. She worked her ass off for 20 years.
The sad thing is that, at the beginning of her career, her voice was really deep and strong. If she had gotten proper vocal training, she would have gotten far. But her team made her sing in that "baby" voice in order to sound sexy. Her smoking also damaged her vocals.
I HATE when people put those clips to make her look crazy or insane. LEAVE HER ALONE
Drake is a one trick pony at this point of life or time
unpopular opinion, but Megan's vocals and production on Mother are pretty nice, lyrics are the only bad part, but so many other songs are the same, yet loved by so many
Single Soon was literally so trash! I still can't even believe it was her song when i heard it...💀
I kinda liked Ice Spice on Boy's a liar
2019-2000 was the best , perfect, absolute , nostalgic, including the 90's/80's.
ever since tiktok became super popular as a way to promote music, every song has such a tiktok mall vibe. pop is dead
Your shade is iconic.
also the britney song WAS an outtake from that era. will i am admitted it was recorded in like 2012 around the same time as scream and shout
i actually surprisingly really liked Bongos, even though I don't like Cardi like that tbh. Meg did outshine her in all the ways possible and the song came out way too late to be a summer hit like they wanted to do. Same goes with Hands on Me, i actually liked it. I thought it was a good interpretation but was lackluster fs and can understand the frustration behind it.
Bongos is ass
I agree with your list, especially with how bad "Mind Your Business" was - the Will.I.Am & Britney Spears collab.
... That song was so bad, it was actually & literally painful to listen to...!!!
I really like both artists, but their song was not only the worst song of the year, it's the worst song ever made...!!!
It was actually recorded as 2013
I still have a hard time taking travis scott seriously. Probably will for at least 10 more years too.
“While they spent their entire begging someone to put their hands on them, let’s just hope that neither of them put their hands on a classic song again.”😂😂😂
We need a part 2 of this video.
Nicki Minaj ft future - Nicki Hendrix.
Was one of the most boring song of the year!!
The whole album was meh
Lmao😂😂😂😂
it was mid but not horrible. horrible is try that in a small town or mother
@@pan6529 it was terrible ey. The most people skipping that song anyway.
@@lientheblesser5935 a skip isn’t horrible. many albums have skips, but a horrible song will make you want to never hear it again.
Interesting how demons or paint the town red isn’t on this list😭
It’s annoying how biased he is. Demons is the worst song I’ve ever heard tbh
or maybe people have different tastes? @@UA-camaccount50512
They are not worse than the ones in the video, don’t even
@derangedmf "BITCH I SAID WHAT I SAID , I'D RATHER BE FAMOUS INSTEAD I WILL LET THAT GET TO MY HEAD , I DON'T CARE I PAINT THE TOWN RED!!" 🗣🗣🥶🥶💯💯
No bfr , that song is soo annoying , it's basically like lil nas's montero ( call me by your name) , ragebait but even then , lil nas's song was still fire and super good and not only it was rage bait but it actually had a story to tell and the music video as shocking and weird the ending was , i low-key like it's aesthetic fits it perfectly unlike paint the town red who looks cheap asf
Search and Rescue really wasn’t that bad tbh. Especially the second half of the song post beat drop. When you’re alone and listening, it’s a vibe
As a huge drake drider I do not like search and rescue
I feel old because I never heard any of these songs 😮
Well i was happier not knowing any of these sHłT songs of this year 🤣😆
@@maszkalman3676 i swear 😂
Im so sick of racists making rage bait music its sooo annoying
Will you make a best songs of 2023 video too?
THANK YOU, single soon by selena was a bit disappointing especially after hearing her rare album and enjoying songs like vulnerable and souvenir. Single soon just feels like empty trashy pop
the karma remix was a distraction from that weirdo in 1975 and nobody can convince me otherwise
no because why have i not heard literally ANY of these. they must truly be shit if i haven't even heard them in passing
if we're talking awful 2023 hit songs i feel like loving on me by jack harlow should be on the list as well
that was probably the most inorganic #1 this year other than seven, barely heard it twice
It was atleast tolerable
it was mkay I RATHER LISTEN TO THAT THAN MOTHER
I don't know what 'will I am' was thinking releasing a 2011 esque song
Selena could stop doing music and it would not be felt in the music industry
This year was barely better than 2022 tbf, but it was unremarkable nonetheless. Peso Pluma making it to the top this year made me happy tho 😊
‘Single soon’ was my most listened song this year 😂 actually love it tbh.
Im so sorry
Thanks I actually love single soon too 😂😂 I didn't know that many people hated it 😂
2023 is my least favorite year of music so far this decade, 2020 is unmatched imo
Only bc, a lot songs got exposure from tiktok. Just my opinion
2022 is personally my least favorite of this decade but who knows maybe in 10 years time looking back we'll appreciate it a lot more
2021 was my favorite, the sour and montero eras gave me life
2020 was my favorite so far this decade. 2021 was close imo.
@@GenericUsername1388 2022 had bad unmemorable charting singles but good albums.
Renaissance, Dawn FM, Gemini rights as examples imo
Massive weeknd fan here and you are bang on with the song kpop, major disappointment. I couldn't even hate it cause it was just so dull
The karma remix wasn’t good but it wasn’t THAT bad
It does feel kinda flat tho. It had better potential, and that lost potential makes it sound worse than it actually is.
Nah, Ice Spice sounds flat and not good at all in Karma collab, I would even say that had to be by far her worst rap verse ever tbh.
Ice spice just didn’t fit in the song..she’s known for being a chill rapper but this song was too chill for her I feel
It is THAT bad. That girl can't rap lol. Taylor should've gotten Nicki on it and it will be a blaze of a remix i know that's rightttt
@@mohamadfirdausbinmat2577A Nicki x Taylor collab would be CRAZY..in a good way
Not to be pessimistic but compared to other decades this current decade doesn’t seem too good in terms of entertainment .. everything feels forced , no creativity, music comes & goes nothing sticks
"Mind Your Business" Isn't sung by Britney..🙄 It's Myah Marie (backup singer) She hinted this during a livestream.
Single soon is sooooo annoying
I legit don't know if it's cause I'm in my 30s now, but I knew maybe 2 songs here and didn't care for them. I hardly know what's even released anymore. Is it just me getting old? Do you youngins think today's music is good?
Selena Gomez needs to get back with The Scene because that’s where she made endless bops
I must have bad taste 😂 I like most of these songs. Bongos, Single soon, karma remix, baby don’t hurt me, mother were all on repeat for me
It's ok, I liked several of those songs as well. Although this is just his opinion, so it doesn't necessarily mean you have bad taste.
Nahh tastes are subjective. But these in particular just goes to show that you're just easily impressionable, and there's nothing wrong with that
I like bongos too 😊 his opinions are just for us to be entertained by, not meant to be prescriptive. Enjoy the music!
i haven't been able to stomach ANY pop/rap since 2020... it feels like everything just sucks and sounds the same now
Kpop is Mike Dean produced as well😢
ntm on single soon, it's just a cute bop to listen to while getting ready to go out 😭😭😭
I actually like single soon 😂😂😂😂, it was Selena's first song since rare that i actually liked
What Meghan Trainor and Jason's ruler should have done is just done a cover of the original song instead of perverted it
Stop trying to make Ice Spice happen. It's not gonna happen.
i think laufeys album bewitched is one of the best albums that came out in 2023 imo
My 21st century Blues and portals were the best things in 2023
Search and rescue was one of my favorite songs on that album
Not a high bar
the way im a huge weeknd fan and did not know he had a track w travis and bad bunny lol
I The think what’s missing is passion. Everyone is so played out and sounding the same. No one truly has distinction, imo.
We appreciate your insights on this matter. You'll always have our support.
I don't get why people are so offended by Mehgan "Mansplaining" When there's literally so many songs sung by guys straight out just about sex and how big their buts are or calling them slurs out of their names,But the second a woman sings a song about a guy, It's sooo terrible
Those two topics aren't really comparible...
3:23 IM DYING THE ARTICLE
Your next video should be "The worst viewership ratings post 2020" yours would be the first. xoxo
I had to turn down my earphones when you did talked about Britney spears and she started yelling lol
Karma Remix is one of the worst i heard in my entire life. Period. The original was so good and they ruined with Ice Spice whispering off-tempo and off-beat.
JUSTICE FOR SEARCH AND RESSCUE I LOVE THAT SONG
I didn’t even know most of these song releases existed.
"Mother" might be the most god awful song I've ever heard. "Mr. Sandman" didn't deserve to be abominated in that crap
I have not heard a song from this year but Nicki’s album
So basically, you're telling us without telling us that you dislike Nicki. Cause anyone who actually sat and listened to the album. More than one time would not come to that conclusion. There was literally a song for everyone. From fans of Rap, RNB, and Pop so...
