First project of Russian assault rifle was a Rudnitskiy rifle, 1883-1887. It was a gas-operated weapon, with 6-8 round magazine, full-auto firing and light bipods. Suggested a replace of Berdan-2 to this rifle. Other project - Privalov 6 mm automatic rifle, 1890. Cartridge builted based on .42 Berdan case, and was a 30-54% less powerful than .42. In 1912 engineer Frolov costructed automatic rifle, used a 7.62x54R with reduced charge. Use of Fedorov automat in role of LMG - forcedly, yes, based on M1916 created variant with bipods and 50-round pan mgazine. And, by functional, it was a between AR and LMG. Fedorov also created M1916 big rifle, with 25-rd magazine, in 7.62x54R.

Copy word doesn't exist when it comes to guns and gear in army generally. Not to mention that first assault rifle wasn't Stg44 but MkB.42 and even before soviet AS-44, then Fedorov Avtomat 1916
Whoever kept the program alive was one of these heroes in the German bureaucracy that understood what was needed. Typical that Germans wasted resources when this weapon could have been fielded faster and earlier to help their war effort!
The Federov was a battle rifle/automatic rifle because it used a full power rifle cartridge rather than a smaller intermediate cartridge like the StG 44
I would love to see a similar style video for the mg42 or Hitler buzzsaw. This weapon was the first actual light machine gun and is still in use to this day.
That's not true, The STG-44 is not the first Assault Rifle, and it has not mainly been used used for th Ak47, It's the Sudajew AS-44 Search it up if you don't believe me (and Yes it was developed before the STG-44)
The AK is more of a M1 Garand from the inside. The AR10/15 although using a different gas system from the STG-44, has a lot of similaraties to the STG-44.
What happned to the million plus kark 98k that were produced please answer this question. Also make a VIDEO ON ALL GERMAN SMALL ARMS USED BY THE WEHRMACHT
Yeah the fedorov just never really saw combat because it was produced in such low numbers. The STG was the first assault rifle to see sustained and widespread use in combat
The part on the STG and AK isn't right. They are different different operating system and locking systems. AK's use a "Multi-lug" rotating bolt STG uses a tilting bolt to lock its self. Also on AK platform rifles the gas piston is permanently affixed to the bolt carrier. Where as the STG has a hook on the rear on the piston operating rod that engages a lug on the top of the STG's bolt which lifts the rifles bolt out of its locking position and pulls it out of battery. STG is also technically a "Short stroke gas piston" where as the AK is a "long stroke gas piston" Internal layout is also different. STG rifles are more similar to AR, Cetme/G3 platform rifles. As far as the AR, Im not sure what your talking about with the "Ratcheting trigger". I know the AR platform as a ratchet mechanism built in on the 3 round burst models, But Im unfamiliar with such a device being present in the STG platform. ALSO the part about Hitler himself personally designating the rifle "Sturmgewehr 44" is kind of a hoax. I read many thing but never read anything with concrete reliable source that said Hitler himself had anything to do with the naming of the rifle.
About the fedorov avtomat the gun have rifle round and if a gun want to be an assault rifle it must have intermediate round (bigger than a pistol but smaller than a rifle round)
You don't know much about the 6.5 Arisaka that the Avtomat Fedorova used huh? The cartridge has the same energy as modern intermediate cartridge 6.5 Grendel. Also in the Russian army, the energy was right between a pistol cartridge and a standard rifle cartridge (7.62x54R) - which is also a definition of the intermediate cartridge.
caif4 no it wasn't! are you kidding? 42👈 compared to 47👈 tank boy stole the idea (especially the gas operation system) for ejecting and reloading a round.
@@BridgesDontFly lol. You think the AK 47 was the first assault rifle produced in the Soviet union? Sudayev's AS 44 was set to enter serial production in 1944 but he died so Kalashnivov had to create another one. Kalashnikovs first variant came out in 1946. Before all that the Russians and Soviets were already experimenting with automatic rifles with types like the fedorov avtomat, AVS 36, and AVT 40. They also developed their own type of intermediate cartridge independent of what Germany did. 7.62 x 39 practically replaced their standard cartridge by 1945. The round was created to be used by the M44 mosin (which was set to be the new standard issue rifle) and was only later selected for the AK. With that said, I'm not saying nothing was taken from the Germans. What was specifically taken from the Germans was their stamping technique. The original AK was a milled gun. The stamped gun (late AK 47 and AKM) were cheaper and lighter than the milled type which is why the Soviets copied the German technique. The Soviets werent as backwards as popular history leads to believe.
The Federov was not widely used at all and very few were made, and barely even saw combat during WW1. The STG44 was the first assault rifle to be used by an actual army on a wide scale and have more than five or six made.
As direct translation yes, however the word "storm/sturm" is also a synonym to word "assault" as in this case. German Assault units in WW1 weren't called "Stormtroops" out of coincidence.
The fedorov avtomat is the first automatic rifle but not neccerily an assault rifle since it fired a somewhat full powered cartridge. But its still up for debate.
also the federov was not "the first assault" like most claim, it fired a rifle round like most bolt actions (same as ALL automatic rifles from ww1) a assault rifle needs to fire a intermediate round to be considered a assault rifle, also the federov was deployed as a machine gun, to be used with a bipod
Learn something about 6.5 Arisaka and its use by the Russian army and Avtomat Fedorova - in that case, it is very much an intermediate cartridge and as such, Avtomat Fedorova is the first ever fielded Assault Rifle. Even tho Fedorov Avtomat was deployed as a machine gun of sorts, it was actually used by the soldiers as we would use Assault Rifles today.
