German WWII infantry weapons are so iconic. The MP40, MG42, STG44, there's not a single one that isn't immediately recognizable. Quite beautiful weapons, too.
I think years of video games and movies also contributed but yeah they all look very unique and different. Dont forget Gewehr 43 too.
It's not just the weapons either. It's really not fair to us that every single thing Nazi Germany made was the coolest thing EVER made. Afrika Korps Panzer IV ausf. G is the most gorgous tank that will ever exist.
They even inspired Star Wars weapons like Hans Solos by Mauser C96. Rebel Soldiers by STG 44 and Heavy Blaster Rifle by MG 34.
Its always funny to me that those are so iconic because of how relatively rare they were among German infantry. Most just had old Kar 98s and only gun nerds recognize those.
@@404Dannyboy well its only natural since, they where rare specially the stg. When you look at the names, you can actually understand why. It says what is and the year it was produced. MP-40 “Maschinen Pistole 1940”. They where limited to officers and SS. the poor normal dirty solider gets the weapon that where most comon the Karabiner 1898.
Hickok probably picked that up in '45 after defending his position against a platoon of Assault Liters and Para-Melons.

some idiot in my state went to turn this in as a police buy back, and the cops were like "hey dummy, why don't you google this thing first"
+NYG5 The "buy backs" are such a sham. How can it be a "buy back"? Did any of you buy your guns from the police department? I did not buy mine there, so I'm not planning to sell them "back" to them. Just silly "feel good" stuff.
+hickok45
do they also destroy them in the USA, or do the cops resell them or auction them off?
Here in germany, the gun laws are much stricter than in the US, so we don´t really have any buyback programs, because those who have the guns illegally, usually want to keep them.
But what still happens is that people find weapons when cleaning out the house of dead relatives or when renovating old houses.
A friend worked in the Guns/hunting wildlife department of our city and he often showed me pictures of stuff people brought in, that was often even legal (single shot muzzleloaders, swords, sabres, daggers for example, ) to own, but the people saw that it was a gun/weapon and brought it to the city office.
And the law says that all of these weapons had to be destroyed, no matter that some weren´t even illegal and where 120 year old antiques.
This idiot should get shot for turning his stg44, that's such a criminal act.

I guess every country has its good and its bad sides.
When some Americans talk about 10 000$ bills from the hospitals, I´m just shuddering and happy about good healthcare over here.

I was told by my father that he fought against German Army soldiers that used the MP-43 in France and it was a much better machine pistol than the MP40. He had a few MP-43 rounds and they look like 8 mm short rounds. He liked the MP-43 more than the Thompson machine gun that he used in WWII.

As far as i know Hitler was opposed to the idear of a intermediate cartridge and didn´t approve the Stg44 at first. He only approved things that fit in his concept of weapons that he learned to use in WW1. So he only wanted MPs and Rifles. So the development name was changed to MP44 to get his approval. When he later found out how much the troops liked the gun he changed his mind.
Teufelsnachbar667 he was against the idea of more rifles (he didn't realize the sturmgewehr was different from other rifles) that's why they renamed it, after Hitler saw it fire he approved and they gave it the old name
Teufelsnachbar667 Yeah, they actually lied about it's design details and presented it to him as an SMG.
"He only approved things that fit in his concept of weapons that he learned to use in WW1" Considering the tanks and planes he built i highly doubt he cared what was used in ww1.
Actually,Hitler hating the StG44 and its cartrige is a post war Rumor....He was basically just against its adoption in small number and before the weapon was properly tested. And ironically he was not very fond of development in directions with uncertain ending with small arms...Yes,thats the same man who wanted a bloody 180 ton Tank from 1942 onwards...
Tanks and planes were used HEAVILY in WW1. It taught everyone the power of air superiority, thus the investment in the Luftwaffe and ofc everyone knows German tank designs were beyond it's era until the end of the war (Blitzkrieg tactic). I think he doubted the effectiveness of the STG44 since German ground tactics were to work in groups and have a tactical advantage rather than firepower advantage (see Americans for that) and that's why German squads focused on the Machine Gunner as the centre of the squad and everyone apart from the NCO was equipped with a KAR98 bolt action rifle.
See 'German Squad Tactics in World War 2' by Military History Visualized /watch?v=-rKRt5zVZgw it's interesting. Germany didn't need overwhelming firepower and depended on the MG42 to do damage, hence the lack of innovation in small arms compared to America or the Commonwealth.

Why is that?
If I had a gun like this there is no way I would let the cops have it. I'm German and this is part of my heritage and history.
This is the attitude we ALL need to have when it comes time to VOTE. It's really too late after the freedom / gun banners get into office. If needed, they can easily send lots of geared-up "soldiers" with guns to your door to tell you what to do and what you can own, or to bring you to a cage. Not much you can to about it after they are in office. The voting booth is where most of these issues are resolved. Problem is, when elections come around, too many people are sitting at home on their couches with a cold beer, or just not informed, or simply swayed by the smooth talking politicians who promise them more benefits and checks in the mail.
I hope you all understand it's not just America, This is north amercia wide. Canada and US. The left working hard the take the guns from us.
yeah sadly enough in germany you cant even have a gun just because you want it. wheres the "freedom" in that? you have to be part of a gun sports club (which offer mostly small caliber like .22) or if you are a hunter. the other way to obtain one is through a collectors license but with that you are severly restricted to what you want to collect. Stupid laws and not thought through.

You are correct, the German noun "Sturm" has two meanings:
1. storm
2. assault (meant here)
And "Gewehr" translates to "rifle".
so Sturmgewehr = assault rifle
The sound of chambering a round is soooooo good
I also own an MP-44. Age is is not the reason for the double feed. It's the design. The gun was not perfect, but actually a well tested prototype, and there were many improvements left to be made, but it was developed in war time and rushed to production in a few short years, all in secrecy from Hitler himself. I have seen several variants of the MP-44 fire, and have fired an April 1945 StG-44, an early 1944 produced MP-43, and of course my mid-1944 produced MP-44 (the most common variant), and have shared the experience with other sturmgewehr owners. Although they are the same in all the important features, each of the guns behaves a little differently. My friend's MP-43 cannot cycle Serbian PPU modern ammo because the powder load is a tad too weak. Mine handles it fine, but it is very mag-finicky. It cannot operate reliably with postwar East German or replica mags, but runs almost flawlessly and reliably on original mags made by the Third Reich. They are not unreliable, but occasionally hiccup and are certainly not perfected. These guns were made from mostly sheet metal to speed production and lower cost to the point that they are almost disposable, and little can be done to repair them if damaged since they are mostly spot welded together in a rather permanent fashion. For me, the gun is a prized piece of history, and I am very grateful to be able to live in a country where I have the opportunity to earn it and experience shooting it.
+DARIVS ARCHITECTVS Thanks for this post! Yea, I have 3 magazines for this gun in the video. Two of them don't work at all, so I just keep them for whatever.....they are worth like $300 each now even not working. Guaranteed jams every 3 shots or so with those two magazines though. The magazine in this video is usually pretty much 100%, but was just bad luck that day. Like you posted, it's just part of the gun. A gun designed and then built in the middle of WW2 just isn't perfect. The concept is excellent and the look is amazing, but the reliability compared to gun made post war where time was available to actually test things out is just not even in the same realm. Again, thanks for your post, and it's cool to see another MP44 owner here. Mine is a 7000 serial number gun. What is yours if you don't mind sharing. Also, mine is fxo made. Thanks again.

Not right. It was made by Mauser engineer. After WW2 Ludwig Vorgrimler in need of a job, went to Spain, getting a job there to develop a roller lock Sturmgewehr called the Cetme. Later the German army needed a new Sturmgewehr and so they decided to ask the German company Heckler und Koch for it. hickok45 I'm German, so I can actually tell you exactly what is true and what not:
First: The STG 44 got it's name by Adolf Hitler. He thought, that "Sturmgewehr" would sound more menacing than "Maschinenpistole" (machinepistol).
Second off: This is the reason why there is no difference between the STG 44 and the MP 44. It's the same thing.
Third off: Nothing on this rifle is like the AK.
The AK is like the STG 44.
Even though he never directly said it, Kalashnikov was very inspired by the STG's design, to put it mildly.

Love the sound of that old bolt
Sweet! Nice to see this video posted up too! Very nice job as always, and I'm glad you enjoyed it despite its couple malfunctions. Never had it malfunction nearly that much before. Maybe it was dirty, but all that means is that you guys gotta shoot it again so John can get a full mag through it. Take care!
Great guns, great videos!!!!!! Love them!!!!!!
You can hear the rate of fire slowing during hickocks first full auto fire. Slower with johns until it failed.
Commander Waffles Thanks. Hopefully that happens over time.
Mike
Thanks for sharing such a Classic WW2 Assault Rifle,
Awesome history !!
Awesome firearm brother! I hope I get lucky enough to end up with one!
One of my favorite guns!
+Michael Grant why do all weebs like stg???
+Danny Brown because it's an amazing piece of history and the first automatic assault rifle ever made.
+MOHAWK_HEADSHOT Armin I hadn't watched the video yet and didn't know it was the first SUCCESSFUL assault rifle. I've always seen it listed as the first assault rifle. and I wonder what degree of success they are measuring it by, as in the others never made it out of testing or if this was the first battlefield successful
+Mark Walter It was the first to be manufactured and see use in combat on a wide scale.
+Mark Walter firs first, Fedorov Avtomat
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fedorov_Avtomat
But yes, no good weapon.
Fedorov Avtomat-Mp44-Ak 47-Cetme Español
And love this weapon too
The rifle is really good. In may school years I used to play Return to Castle Wolfenstine days and nights. STG 44 was even more powerful in many missions than Tesla gun. Simple reliable effective. As one good Russian poet put it - Excellent produce of gloomy Teutonic genius!
Thanks a lot for your work, dear Sir!
Subscribed and keep on watching 🤝
I just love this firearm. Even the name STG44. Glorious
It never ceases to amaze me how freakin loud these guns actually are!
Back then, this was hightech. It’s a thing of pure beauty. I just love the looks of it. Thanks for the video.
Remember that having this was like activating a cheatcode. It was a rare gun however, even then.
So since it was so rare yet amazing, actually having one meant you were the highest Elite.
In Syria there are scores of people who had it, somehow, somewhere, there is a stash of them
That was very cool. Thanks to the generous owner for sharing this view.
Gun is made so well in any video game its literally the most dominant
What a beautiful sound.
You mean at 5:52 ?
It sounds like a storm
5:25 "let gravity be our friend" *FLAT EARTHERS TRIGGERED*
explains the 1.3k dislikes lol
Lol
it really does
Negev Mester NaH liberals disliked it
Underrated comment
Gavin b smh 🤦♂️ no one even said a single word of politics and here you are
I love that weapon! I wish they'd make a modern version, complete with a threaded barrel for supperssion!
jesus the sound the bolt makes is so good
Look at the pistol grip, trigger guard, and magazine layout... I can see even Stoner got some inspiration from this gun as can be seen with the similar form factor on our AR-15s we have today.
+rambokicksass77 Well, I do believe that the dust cover is actually based off one from the FG-42
+Brian Ross eh, besides the bcg being different, and being straight gas operated, the design of this and the M16 is pretty similar...as similar as something being designed 20 years apart, anyway
+rambokicksass77 I said it once and I say over and over again
these damn germans guns were way ahead of its time man
its scary to think that these weapons were once used against us
+baff shogun I know man the rounds, accuracy, and don't get me started on the fire rate on the MG that thing could take out King Kong
+rambokicksass77 the m60 and m249 use the mg42 design iirc. everything from tanks to rocketry to guns were taken by every nation after Germanys defeat, not the first time either. Supposedly before and perhaps even during WWI, Mauser had a lawsuit against Springfield for exceeding patent approval for copied parts. They had like 2 years approval or something and springfield just kept making them. Unsure whether they were ever paid but it seems they were at least awarded in their suit.
When Hickok gets giddy and says “I’ve never even held a real one” you know you’re in for a good video!
hahaha
Hey buddy, love your content and style. Thanks for all the great content.
Thanks, that is amazing, many thanks to Mike too.
'I would like to thank my sponsors for bringing me to Texas' are words I could only ever dream about saying.

Just a broke/broken/bloke.
love this channel.
Another wonderful piece of superior German engineering
Remind me of WW II games. When you have one in your protagonist character, it really kicks arse. Almost always pick up german weapons in games. Look so much fun in real life, too.
The bolt is crazy looking, especially when you watch the animation
This Rifle is a fine piece. The mechanics of the rifle for that era are amazing alone. This would be a fine Rifle to have in a collection.
German engineering man. The Germans were way ahead of their time in terms of Warfare technology.

too bad they got their asses kicked hard!
@@PCB-dg7pt A war on two fronts will do that to you! You sound a little hurt about German superiority in terms of engineering. To bad it's just a fact that they were best. Stay mad kid!
@@PCB-dg7pt it seems its the other way round actually considering they got pitted against british empire (of which was broken/bankrupt by the end), soviet union (of which putin stated "we lost to a defeated germany") and americas industrial might, odds ranging up to 1:11 in manpower, 5-6 years of war although they lost, it was them that kicked ass, check the numbers.
@@PCB-dg7pt also im sure you've seen the quote from general patton "we fought the wrong enemy" i would ask you to finish it? what was his whole quote if you know? or how about the other "we have had a victory over the Germans and disarmed them, but we’ve failed in the liberation of Europe; we have lost the war!"
@@WillM1776 ahhh fuck another "Are you guys Neo Nazi?" Just because somebody complimented the Germans in WW2
Thats like calling somebody an evil communist for complimenting the decimating AK 47
HOL UP? Did i just called Ak47 decimating guess im a Commie now
Even by today standards it looks so cool
Back when Hitler field tested this rifle, it reminded him of times past in the trenches, holding his rifle, pulling that bolt back in between shots and he said, das ist gut. This is a truly magnificent and accurate rifle, I could tell when you were shooting that those rounds would have hit around and near the target if it were man sized. What I think I will be seeing soon is a gun that is powered by a lithium battery that shoots a small, tiny, pin like rotating slug that fires that more than 3000 feet a second, all powered by magnetic fields. That bullet would have to be micro engraved for fluid dynamics. You could carry thousands and thousands of rounds on you, what matters now is the electrical capacity to fire those rounds.
"storm, or assault in English"
me: *realizing that the Germans weren't just obsessed with rain, wind, and lightning*
Now you also know the Star Wars Empire’s foot soldier’s uniforms weren’t rain suits…
Nope.
Just German.
Weird language sometimes.
We use storm as a verb in the same sense in swedish, german is a lot weirder though?
@@datadavis
Dont know enough Swedish to say.
I mean, in English we also use "storm" as a verb for assaulting or charging. "Storming the castle," for example. It's just not used that often for us.
It still has the SS incriptions! that's a piece of art! and I dont care what other people think Kalashnikov did copy the AK from the STG44 ! the germans were so avanced by their time ! the stg44 is the father of all modern assault rifles
awesome piece of history an admirable gun
