This drummer is out of this world… with all due respect, I don’t give a fuck the ultra fast or flashy style, his sense is of music, rythm and space is way better and beyond that!
It's how effortless II makes this look for me. I know a lot of how effortless this looks has to do with not being able to see his face, but his movements are so fluid and fast. drummers are always so impressive to me, but II is just in another league
He kills it actually better live its insane, i have not heard someone this good in modern music i wish you could have hear the singing . this was a instrumental, the singer is a virtuoso he writes all of it
He’s so sick. Hypnosis stays more in one lane genre-wise compared to others in their catalog, but “next-level” is such a great way to describe the approach here. He probably could have easily gotten away with a more straightforward groove, but the hat work and fills in the verses elevate the song to much higher levels. You definitely should check it out with vocals, too. Vessel’s voice and lyricism are unmatched in my book. Worship.

I grew up listening to Rush and Dream Theater with my Dad, later on to Tool, and in my younger years a lot of deathcore and the like, and seriously II is the only drummer I had to see to make sense of, if you just listen to some of their songs you'd be convinced he had 3 arms. He's on a level I didn't even know existed.

I am new to sleep token..... but I am not new to music... this drummer stands out..... his fills ...his sense of music is insane..... what he brings to music is at a different level......he doesn't have a talent. ..he has a gift....
I play the guitar, but I've ALWAYS wanted to learn drums, but the first time I tried I couldn't for the life of me manage to hold one beat with the bass drum, and another with the sticks. So much respect to drummers, because I cannot wrap my mind around how the brain is able to do that.

Sleep Token absolutely scored with this guy drumming and co-writing for Vessel and the collective. He is so creatively different, especially moving within the 'metal' type music genre.
Sleep token is other worldly in their talent. I was hooked the moment I first heard them, absolutely incredible band. My wife and I have our suspicions that Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie's bass player) is Sleep Tokens bass player, they move exactly the same on stage and are of similar height and build.
I never thought I'd say this, but Neil Peart ( RIP. I adore your playing and legacy), this drummer with ST has been blessed and has permanently commanded my attention and will not let go!

the thing I think I love the most about his playing is how he uses the cymbals. The timbre and texture choices are just so enjoyable. He delays a lot of the punchy elements too which is also satisfying. Snare tuning is noice!
Seriously. This is the highest level of musicianship, indeed. This is what it's like to be blessed to enough to see an absolute master doing his(?) thing. He's so clearly confident and comfortable. Sheesh.
Best musos cross genres. I hear ska/reggae (that pulse/groove), rock, jazz/fusion (ghost notes, sophisticated grooves), and djent/metal in this dudes playing. A very well educated musician who has listened to a lot of music and has the technical skills to pull it together.
Yeah, i have known of Sleep Token for probably about a year now... Vessel 2 has a interesting style, in how upright he sits on the kit.. Personally i think it highlights his drumming style, getting to see his overall playing style and technique.. Sleep Token is an amazing band also everything thing have ever released has been Very captivating....

Sleep Token is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. The sheer raw talent both Vessel has on vocals, keyboards and piano and II has on drums just wow, I cannot wait for them to get bigger and more recognition. I could listen to II jam all day.
This open guitar part in the verse lends so much room for fills. And i love how he places them at different points in the sequence. Theyre not all at the same time in the riff
II've used for "bass drum mics" (Shure Beta 52, AKG D112...) many times on floor toms and also as a second bass cabinet mic. There're no rules in recording when you know your fundamentals.
The original has vocals and they’re amazing, but I think he wanted to use an instrumental version to focus on the drumming. The vocalist is incredible…probably the most noteworthy member of the band.

Wow that was great...I've heard of S.T. before but first time listening to them..That is an awesome sounding kit..I like the micing techniques to get different sounds from each drum..This guy is show serious restraint a lot of players would go nuts with the fills to round out the sound but this guy's pocket was yes so crisp it was like lettuce lol...Thx Andrew... My number one fav drummer in the world is the legend, Joey Jordison and II really come close. his style just much more clean and crisp which is something that i truly love.
Andrew I hope you listen to them They are incredible musicians, to not be known to get the accolades they deserve is a crime but it’s such a pleasure to listen to and enjoy their abilities. I discovered them late, with their new album Take Me Back To Eden but they have been out since 2019 and their debut album Sundowning and their second This Place Will Become Your Tomb is equally as epic. Saw them live this past weekend, they were incredible. Everything sounded studio (after the first song, there were some audio issues, not their fault).

Mmmm, as much as I love utter insanity in 400bpm blasts and double bass etc, this is just something else entirely. Absolutely gorgeous. Imagine if we somehow got Danny Carey, Mike Portnoy and II in the same room, I'd be in drumming nirvana.
The best band. Seem them live in Newcastle Australia about 3 weeks ago. It was such a journey. You actually looked away at the worst time during the breakdown and missed vessel 2 doubled handed symbol choke. That made me sad 🤣

If you notice, he has a very similar playing style to that of Matt Halpern (Periphery), especially his figure 8-style China (or ride) splashes. Makes you go hmmmmmm….

Cause over the years watching you - I’ve had like a massive list accumulates of things I wish I could see you react to. But I understand why Patreon exists and why patrons obviously get to pick the songs. But either way. I’m a fan. Not sure if you ever do streams. But that would be an awesome way to make a lot of videos and take requests to react to on streams - so non patreons get a chance to request stuff. And it rhay aerrinr or would be cool to request seminal bands that don’t have the massive followings or even the flashiest players. But drummers that are great Song writers - bands like Slint - where the drummer doesn’t write drum “beats” as much as composing the songs from the drums up. slint - Washer is a great song by slint. And they recorded it in the late 80s when they were all super Young and the drummer Britt writes amazing compositions on the drums. Saw a comment on that song thay describes his drumming as “sounding like waves crashing , swelling and rolling with the tides” and it’s a perfect description.
How II makes it look like he isn’t even trying blows my mind. WITH A MASK ON lol I don’t think many drummers could possibly hit 100% of one of their own songs blindfolded, some but rare, and I believe II could do it blindfolded with objects throw at him. He’s unreal. Best part is, that’s the idea 😈 craziest thing about him and the band is the ONE OTHER MEMBER, Vessel, has the vocals of a god. So a non-human drummer with a goddess of a voice singing. Same here! Prior to II, my favorite was Portnoy.
Matching microphone diaphragm size to tom size. Gives you the full dynamic frequency range of the toms.

I’m no drumming expert, but I do love how his cymbals are really impactful…but yet they don’t completely over power everything else he’s doing.

As a sound tech I've used a beta52 plenty of times on floor toms, cause essentially a floor tom is a mini kick drum.

Man I love this channel. I wish I didn’t live pay check to pay check. Cause over the years watching you - I’ve had like a massive list accumulates of things I wish I could see you react to. But I understand why Patreon exists and why patrons obviously get to pick the songs.
But either way. I’m a fan.
Not sure if you ever do streams. But that would be an awesome way to make a lot of videos and take requests to react to on streams - so non patreons get a chance to request stuff.
And it rhay aerrinr or would be cool to request seminal bands that don’t have the massive followings or even the flashiest players. But drummers that are great Song writers - bands like Slint - where the drummer doesn’t write drum “beats” as much as composing the songs from the drums up.

Young and the drummer Britt writes amazing compositions on the drums. Saw a comment on that song thay describes his drumming as “sounding like waves crashing , swelling and rolling with the tides” and it’s a perfect description.

How II makes it look like he isn’t even trying blows my mind. WITH A MASK ON lol I don’t think many drummers could possibly hit 100% of one of their own songs blindfolded, some but rare, and I believe II could do it blindfolded with objects throw at him. He’s unreal. Best part is, that’s the idea 😈 craziest thing about him and the band is the ONE OTHER MEMBER, Vessel, has the vocals of a god. So a non-human drummer with a goddess of a voice singing.
