To me, the Sleep Token song Ascensionism hits the hardest!

I turned 67 today and my first metal album was Black Sabbaths first album back in 69. Ive heard a lot of monumental albums in my lifetime like Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin lV. This is going to be one of those albums that people will remember 50 years from now. Awesome
You are who I hope to be, catalogging the zeitgeist for 50+ years lol.
No one will remember the name
@@psychoelectric ??
@@geoff3610 Just one of those people who like to go against what is popular because they think they are cooler than that. There is a lot of ST haters out there.
@@psychoelectriclmao cope
I would absolutely love to see a slow burn where you do this whole album. The last half of the album (Ascension is the start of the back half) is unreal. Take Me Back To Eden is an audio engineer's wet dream, and Rain is another really accessible dark pop to metal song.
So accurate. After the full album dropped I couldn't help myself but delve into it with a fine toothed comb.
I think Rain is my favorite song. And I'm not exactly sure what it is. Songs just relatable
This is track 6 of a 12 track album. Literally part of the first half.
@@true12242000 I keep changing my favourite song. Think TMBTE has to take it though. But then I love Vore, The Summoning, Ascensionism, Euclid and Are You Really Okay? at different points too depending on mood.
@@MegaLaban12345 okay whatever lol 🥱 not like the semantics actually matter, but go off
I echo the sentiments of anyone mentioning a slow burn for this whole album. I just know you'll appreciate it as a whole and the context of the whole makes each stand stronger~ This is my new favorite album of all time by any band.
there has never been an album as worthy of a slow burn imo 🙌🙌
I’ve literally listened to nothing else since it released- and I’ve never done that before. I’m 42 and having listened to a lot of music over the years I can’t remember ever having an album that affected me as much as this one.
The first album would be ideal, but this is at least better than their last release.
Album just released. Give it time before you declare such a thing.
@@legend53beast63 We never stop getting older. Time moves forward. As such, our favorite things can change over time. At this point, I've listened to this album 17 times and my statement is only reinforced by the fact I'm not tired of it. I don't need time to declare a favorite if I'm aware that it might change one day :D It's going to take a lot to beat it for me, though.
This album is a new level and I'm not sure how much better music can get after this. The vocals, drums, lyrics, composition.. it's all top notch.
“Life is dark. Life is bright. Life is ugly. Life is beautiful. Don’t get lost in genres, they’ll only disorientate you. Music is for everyone.” - Vessel 2017
You shouldnt feel guilty for stopping often. You're not a frequent stopper-offender. And most of all, what you have to say has value and matters. I feel you honestly don't stop enough, there's really not many people out here that have the same experience or listen to the track the same as you.
I agree he actually knows what he's talking about.
@@ILoveLamp-sj4bx also, this is a REACTION video, i mean, if the owner of the video is not gonna talk about the song they heard, then they would just be replaying the song as any other video. At least me, i watch reaction videos, as this one, to hear what he has to say about the song, what's his aproach to the music, etc. Never say sorry for expressing your opinion on a reaction video. :D
Agreed. If we wanted to listen to the whole song all the way through then we would go watch the official video.
I come to this channel to listen to what he has to say, it enriches my musical understanding and he catches so many things that I would miss.
@@MrATolosa true dat
Can not echo the sentiment enough! You give us unique window into the music we love!
I LOVE, right before he sings "you make me wish I could disappear" he screams the melody that we have been hearing from the piano. So much passion!
every time that " you're going to watch me ascend" scream comes in!! fucking goosebumps 👏🏻
It is lyrically wonderful how we go from "You take what you want then leave" into "I take what I want then leave". The album really is just something different from anything.
Metal Has been separated from the mainstream listener for the better part of 40 years. Sleep Token does the best job of bridging the gap of Metalcore and Mainstream without "selling out" in recent memory. Love this music......and your channel of course.
I cant believe you are reacting to this right now! I just searched for reactions to this song then got the notification. New Sleep Token fan, this album has hooked me when their older material never could and this is my favorite song on the album! Been stuck in my head for a week.
I bet if u go back and listen to some old songs, it would grow on you now. Funny how music does that
@@thepowerofmyth oh, it already has. It's happened to me before but it's been awhile.
We all need an “after second listen analysis” for this album. Period.
Strong agree. I don't need first time reactions for any of this album tbh - I just want the analysis once he's had a chance to really listen to it.
every single song that sleep token has made has been fire. not a single bad track. never skip anything on any album. pure transcendence.
Kudos to whoever mixed this album. Every song gets louder as the track goes on, which adds to the dynamics and force. Truly a masterpiece.
I’ve been converting so many to Sleep Token with this album! It’s absolutely beautiful in my opinion
Worship🙏🏻
It is an absolute work of art. Songs like Take Me Back To Eden, Are You Really Okay?, Euclid, and The Summoning are just experiences for the soul.
@@duffman9908 couldn’t agree more.
@@duffman9908 Are You Really Okay? just makes me sob. Fuck you Sleep Token, you beautiful bastards
Ive played sleep token for my boss even they now love sleep token so much!
This song and Take me back to Eden are the absolute bangers on the new album... I am still overwhelmed by their creativity and perfectionism.
I’m so glad I’m alive to hear this. 🖤
Sleep Token only consists of two official members. Vessel and II, as in the Roman number 2. In the studio for recording purposes, Vessel performs all the vocals and plays all the instruments except for the drums, which are played by II. For live performances, they are joined by III on bass and IV on guitar. Enjoyed your reaction, and I agree that you should listen to the whole album!! It really is worth it! Stay safe 🤘 ✌️
Thank you for that - had no idea!
@Key of Geebz In fact, for this album, Vessel is also credited as producer along with Carl Bown.
@@KeyOfGeebz Just to correct the original comment a little bit, both III and IV have joined the band fulltime. Also, III is an absolute goober. You'd love him
@@xfrostyresonance8614 what’s your source for that? Neither are listed as members officially in either music credits or otherwise.
@@TV_Offroad guitar and bass player are official live members. All writing is done by Vessel and II.
Been a fan of Sleep Token for a while, there’s a lot of people on social media giving them a lot of stick and gate keeping for the pop music elements in their music but to me as a long time metal and prog head the way they so seamlessly integrate it all together is so fantastic. This whole song is an emotional experience, full chicken skin the whole way through. Would love to see you do the whole album in order, it really is a journey.
I have huge respect for what these guys are doing, not a big fan, i listen to ST sometimes but not very often. There is one thing that i'm a little bored about, they always have the same approach like : " electro + soft vocals" then bridge or end of the song with heavy guitars and metal elements, this format is a bit repetitiv to me.
@@xavkoston16 just about every band does something that makes those music you know like that signature sound or formula so what's wrong with that at least every song don't sound the same and they have so much variation it doesn't matter
Honestly, one of the single greatest songs ive ever heard.
Geebz’s this album , has been a breath of fresh air.. there isn’t a band that genre wise that can touch sleep token
As long as i been a subscriber and enjoyer of your breakdowns, it’s reached it’s pinnacle as Sleep Token is my favorite band and they’ve released one of the best albums i’ve ever heard. Sonically it’s blissful from production, songwriting and composition, the lyrics and vocal deliveries.. it’s all so intentional and powerful, the most subtle things have their own purpose and it’s just utter brillinace. They truly outdid themselves with this project ,
Thank you Geebz🙏🏽
Literally same. I saw he put this video up and nearly lost my shit.
Please do the whole album, it’s so freaking good!
I'm to the point now, that Sleep Token, are a pop band, that introduce metal, and other genre, elements. And being a metalhead myself, I still really did it. Have to appreciate just the pure talent and artistry this group brings
Summoning listeners from all the genres in one song. But to what dark purpose...and for what kind of God..
One of the best live bands I’ve seen in a long time. Loved them since I heard jaws for the first time years ago. There’s just something about this band that grabs you and doesn’t let go.
I’m so happy to see multiple reaction channels point out how the autotune is being used as a creative CHOICE and not a performance crutch. Vessel don’t NEED autotune! He allows it to sing with him 😎
Sleep token has changed my life and saved me.Take me back to Eden is possibly the greatest album I've ever heard.Thank you for reacting to them
This record is just so great and exciting, and this is one of my favorites. It's funny I've seen some people criticize and given this record bad reviews and stuff, saying that the ideas on it are "generic" or that "there's nothing to it" etc etc; I don't know why; probably because so many people like it, and that it resonates so strongly with people. Very emotional music, which is the intent from the perspective of the writer. The ideas are not "generic"; they are "classics"; chord progressions that work, melodies that are easy to remember, and lyrics that moves, great song sensibility, great song craft. It implies great respect for harmony and arrangement in my opinion. It is all muscle, no fat. And to put it all together like this with the production elements that is going on, it is like every single choice that has been made in the process, has been the right one. I don't think it is wrong to call this record a masterpiece and an artistic triumph. And I think it is going to last, at least it will with me. :)
Could not have said it better myself. 👏🏼
I think what causes it is that some people hype it up so much that when some people hear it for the first time, it doesn’t live up. Musically nothing is groundbreaking, it’s just well put together and Vessel has a great voice.
The baseline during the "r&b" section is what gets me, glad you mentioned it! It gets me moving even though I'm not a dancy type
P.S. Yes, listen to the whole album! I know it's typically not your approach, but paying attention to the lyrics would be a bonus :)
This album is an engineering masterpiece. We could all learn a lot from Geebz' input on it. Hope you do a full guided tour of this album!!!
This song has definitely grown on me. Glad you enjoyed it.
I really hope you have videos for the rest of the “non single” tracks. This album is incredible and I love to see your reaction to it. Especially if you did Take Me Back To Eden and Euclid
The Summing and Granite are my favs from this album, I really like the vibe of it, very sensual melodies rounded with hard edges of heavy riffs, I feel like I can slow dance and grind, and then headbang in the next second
Its called a Reese Bass. One of my favorite bass synths. They use it a good bit.
the little details like when he says Glitches in the code, and the word glitches sounds glitched. love the creativity
I love me some sleep token 💫The whole album is a fricken masterpiece !!! 🔥🔥🔥🎶music is life 🎶🥰✌🏽
The whole album list Vessel1[the singer] as the main person for recording process except for the Drums which is recorded by Vessel2.
The band, the production, and the audio engineering... 👍🤘
Sleep Token is my new favorite Band. Saw them live in Phx in 2019 with Polyphia at The Pressroom. Opened with "The Offering" Such a great Set.
Nice! I wish they’d come to Nashville!
I love Sleep Token and I only heard of them like 2 or 3 days ago. The thing that hits me is if you chop out sections of their songs they would be top 10 hits in another genre or something but the blends they do are so intentional and so well placed it makes sense in the context of their music. They are huge and we are probably only seeing the start of it with them right now but I can see a time in the not to distant future they release a song and it drives them to be the biggest musical act in the world at some point even if they don't intend to do it.
After hearing this album for the first time, I re-listened to their first two major albums "Sundowning" and This Place Will Be Your Tomb" and then listened to "Take Ne Back To Eden" again; just to fully experience the Saga in order. Fantastic band!
Oh. Oh I am SO SO excited for this 😍🤘🏼
purgatory anthem right there.
Thank you for introducing me to this band Geebz. I'm completely hooked!
I’m with you bill, I’m 65& agree with you totally , this band I can’t stop listening to, they have my heart& I want to hug them all, well done Sleep Token from an old dude of rock who would not have believed that a band from today would be this bloody great 👏👏👏
Yyyueeeesssss Geebz love you brother you just made my day!!!!
Thank you Geeb for reacting to this one! One of my favorites from the album. Love your content.
A perfect circle is the only other band I've ever been able to compare sleep token too. The occult obsession is just unparalleled. Sleep token is life.
Always love your content
was glad to catch this live on twitch. great track!
This album is also quite self-referential to the previous two albums they released. The final track in particular is a stellar example. While not necessary, I do feel that it will greatly improve the experience of a full listen if you have the other albums fresh on the mind. For those of us who happen to really connect with the music Sleep Token puts out, it was really emotional to listen to this album and hear the conclusion to the story.
Oh you're back!! Excellent!
Thank you Geebz I really look forward to watching you videos. It gets me through the day. Please dont stop.
YASSSSSSS Geebz welcome to the worship!! Give this whole album a listen to! You won't be disappointed~
This song is a perfect example of how metal can unleash a whirlwind of energy. Btw I can't wait to see your genuine reaction to Nick Thurl Mavromatis' new song 🤘
omg you are back!! we love you dude!
dude i love your reviews. a lot.
So glad to see your take on this. I loved those off kilter background piano-ish accents and the 'major feel' too.
I absolutely LOVE that Hammond B3 organ sneaking it at about 2:28. Anyway, all it does is hold out the same chord forever, but it adds such an element of body and tension that it's really a brilliant choice.
Cant wait to see these guys among others on Radar Festival late July!
Going from Norway with a few friends, going to be killer, alot of sick bands!
Picked up headset :). Thanks for the videos.
Haven't seen ya in a bit, happy to see your face Geebz! 🤘
This whole album is great. I'm excited to see where they go next. They are blending pop, R&B, rock and metal into some amazing tracks.
Hell yeah!
Love your reaction. Very authentic and wholesome. Keep on truckin
I'm doing a Sleeptoken Deep Discography Dive as soon as I'm done watching this video.
Geez, on a side note: I've been here with you for the past nearly 3 years of your journey and, I just need to tell you that I FREAKING LIVE YOU, MAN!!! Thank you for resparking my interest in discovering new music again! I love getting down to new tracks with you for the first time. It's like you're one of my old friends that aren't around anymore. I love you, dude!
Love ya geebz
I would love to see your breakdown of the full album! Please consider analysing Take Me Back To Eden (the title track) particularly. :)
This song, Take me to Eden, Rain, Are you really ok? Are my favorites along with most of the singles.
Great reaction bro. This one has grown on me
Dude, do the whole album. Its worth it, and we will watch!
freakin vibed with it so much. alpha tier musical content. how come I’m finding them out for the first time? Btw I can't wait to see your genuine reaction to Nick Thurl Mavromatis' new song 🤘
A mí me pasa lo mismo que a usted
Alucino por los cambios que hacen durante la canción
Estoy realmente maravillado con este grupo 👍
The use of autotune is so tasteful in this track and an example of how it should be used creatively. Beautiful track.
Omg you don’t know how much I wanted to see this
Noticing more intricate insight with the new format. Here for it.
Such a beautiful song.
Geebz this album is a must listen, would love to hear your thoughts on all the songs you haven't yet done. Anyways great reaction as always!
Would watch you listening to the full album for sure!
Just to comment on your analysis of the key resolving at the end. It is exactly the major 3rd that they dropped after some standard minor parts that freshened the piece up a bit. Trust your instincts, really great breakdown of the track as always. Was really looking forward to someone like you taking a real look at this track
All vocals are do e by vessel he also plays piano and guitar. The guys insanely talented!!
I absolutely LOVE the tension that the organ in this song creates.
First time listening to the album the breakdown here was one of the biggest standouts of the entire album, it hits so incredibly hard
Discography slow burn? I’d Patreon that, you have a great way of describing what’s happening!
I'm a fan forever!
If you make a twice baked of this album I’m watching it start to finish
i sent you some money before with a wishlist of black metal albums for review. there is something about these aesthetics that get me in the synesthesia, it produces strange sensations for me. so i love these sorts of music aesthetics. i will try sending more money and the list of albums again 🤪😜
More from this album please.
Great song, great dude reacting.
This song and then Are You Really Ok? after Ascensionism just PURE FIRE AND GOOSEBUMPS. Both of them are my favorite songs from the album, and I recommend you to listen to the whole album, you wont be dissapointed, its truly a contender for AOTY, plus there is A LOT of small details that you Geebz would love.
I adore finding reactors who are finding the new album’ songs. Please react to some of the songs to share with us. I appreciate your insight and joy of ST. 🎭
Finally I guess that this song represents the album the best, and still it hits differently from other songs on it
The "who made you like this" section is especially sick
My mind is blown!
No one is pushing the envelope in the genre, quite like Sleep Token is right now. It seems its been that way since the release of Freshman Album "The Sundowning."
What a build up!…. Genious!
Great reaction first and foremost. As an album this is such a experience. I don’t think any one song is my favorite. The flow up and down from track to track really sets the mood for the epic end of the trilogy. Last track Euclid puts a bow on it with call backs even.
Geebz you have to do TMBTE, the samples in that song early on are so sick.
As well, the ending of The Summoning i think you will get a big kick out of
Type O Negative vibes on the metal breakdown
Exactly what I thought lol
Love this- but REALLY hoping you'll do a slow burn on the new Spiritbox EP, The Fear of Fear! Keep it up brother!
5:21 Dude I don't have an amazing sound system in my vehicle, but it's a pretty ok stock setup and this album-particularly parts like you're talking about here-freaking rips in the car stereo.
I also like to play it through vintage studio monitor setup with Yamaha NS10s and an A100 amp, plus an old Polk Audio 12" sub and oh my god the production is wild. I honestly don't listen to music very loud around the house that often but this record just demands it.
Hey Geebz. Been a fan of yours for a while on your Channel and I appreciate your open mindness, humility, and patience. You still have more room for more new music to listen and react/review at this time? Got some stuff for you. Let me know at your convenience. Take care man. 😉
