Terrific video, my friend. I love seeing the examples of each art piece both as normally observed and with the computer showing the simplicity of the three values. This is a great reminder of the importance of simple values in our designs.
I havent heard many talk about Harvey Dunn but last year I went to the Harvey Dunn plein air event and got to see his museum featuring his works and even speak with some people who had know. Harvey. And incredible artist and seeing his works in person was truly a treat. When designing the tonal values like this at the beginning, where would you figure that out in the process, with thumbnails? And how does it keep you on track when you’re later in the painting process? Thank you
In my case, it’s a bit fluid. What I mean by that is, I’ll either run with a concept that’s loosely based on “seed” images … or create something entirely on the computer before the shoot. Working with live models is incredibly nuanced, where even minor changes in body language can dramatically affect what’s communicated. The information we take in nonverbally is astonishing. So either way I’m adapting on the fly during a shoot. Once that phase is done, I’ll continue to modify the composition … even major elements, on the computer. However, as mentioned in the video, the core value structure set down at the very beginning is maintained throughout. Hope that helps!
Thanks Chris.
Thank you for the videos, love your work
