  • In this video I replace the starter on my 1997 Saturn SL2 to hopefully resolve a no crank no start (single click). This applies for all S-Series Saturn's (SC1, SC2, SL1, SL2, SW1, SW2).

I don’t speak English well, so I’ll speak Russian. Thank you for video! Good luck!

As someone who JUST finished doing the starter in my 99 SL, I can tell you that doing the blind bolt SUCKS! The rest of the job took all of 30 minutes. I spent more than 2 hours getting the blind bolt in on top. Ended up having to kneel on top of my engine and use my telescoping magnet on a stick to get the tip of the bolt in the hole then very carefully use the tips of my fingers to get it started a couple turns. Then 10 minutes of fighting to get it tight. FYI I HIGHLY recommend a Milwaukee M12 cordless 3/8 ratchet for this job. Huge, huge help. I'll also say... If you have the ~$400 just take it to a mechanic to get this done.

The more you work on cars the better/faster you’ll get :) That top blind bolt can be a pain, but eventually you just get used to being able to do things with your hands without actually seeing where they are going. And cordless ratchet is a must! I used one for installing it, maybe I didn’t include that in the video :)

Solid diagnosis and solution! You show that this sort of thing doesn't have to sound mysterious and require the dark side skills of a Sith Lord, lol! I hope the next owner of the Saturn is watching, too! Aloha.

Some force powers would be handy when it comes to diagnosing and fixing tho :P

Replaced the starter in my 97 Saturn SL2 with 206,200 miles yesterday. My Saturn is the same green but not as nice.
You’re Saturn is super clean under the car, is that a coincidence or do you use a degreaser to wipe everything down?
Just one bit of advice for this video, you needed more light pointed toward the area you’re working. As a viewer it’s super hard to see what you’re doing.

Thanks for watching! This Saturn lived a rust-free life in the south, and amazingly has had little oil leaks. Thanks for the feedback.

My Saturn does not start until it gets cold what do I do

Does the engine crank over at all or does turning the key do nothing?
If “NO CRANK NO START” then I suggest taking a look at this video: ua-cam.com/video/QdngJ4ECpek/v-deo.htmlsi=3hufDj3TQWtb2sJW
If the engine cranks slowly or sometimes not at all, then you’re likely dealing with either bad battery connections / starter wiring connections or a bad starter

No start / slow crank when hot typically means the starter solenoid is failing or you have a bad connection to the starter.
For my Saturn, I ended up having a bad positive battery cable that was losing connection when warmed up.
Later I experienced the same issue, this time on my camaro, which I ended up just having to replace the starter as the solenoid on it was going out.
