      The main advantage of titanium frame will be the longevity and ride vs aluminum. If the aluminum rides as good as the big Al, it's only the longevity in terms of corrosion and fatigue life over the big Al.

    Man great break down
    I almost got both those bikes , but the Mmmbop won it out in the end with A 160 lyrik and 2.8s
    I do suffer a hair more in long climbs but on the DH as you stated it feel like a full sus .

      Yeah if you are standing up when you ride, there isn't that much of a difference in how a hardtail rides vs a full suspension on your typical trail. The biggest difference is when you are tired and you want to be lazy and ride sitting down. Just get stronger so you don't sit down as much.

      I myself just bought a ragley mmmbop and was between the nukeproof scout and the ragley mmmbop. I ride 27.5 and alot of factors played in being I was buying just the frame and wanting to use as many components I could from my current hard tail. The mmmbop needed almost nothing to swap all my parts out. But the deciding factor for me was the mmmbop went on sale for $369.00 for the frame and with hardtail party stating its very similar to his banshee paradox (his favorite bike) I was like sold. I'm going to be building the bike up this upcoming weekend.

      Cause it’s so slack

    Have you heard of the R.A.D. system for bike fit/sizing, 'Joy Of Bike' and 'Jeff Lenosky' Y'tube channels talk about it. I found it really helpful. I wondered how your two bikes would compare if set up R.A.D. You've got some beautiful places to ride.

      Yes I am aware of the rider area distance formula from joy of bike. My cockpit actually wasn't formulated from RAD. This was just from trial and error and ended up at where I felt most comfortable with the most control and no pain. The double checked the RAD formula with my cockpit and it is pretty spot on give or take 5-10 mm.

    Great review! I really appreciate the comparison. Do you think the Scout would be better if you sit and spin a lot? Is it a comfortable long day bike? I do a lot of blue and greens with the kids and mostly flow. I don't bomb down stuff or hit big jumps/ huck to flats. A 68 degree head angle modern XC would probably be fine for most of what I do, but everyone keeps saying the hardcore hardtails are the isht. I rode around a Fuse and liked it, just not the 3k price.

    • @s14tat
      @s14tat  2 роки тому +2

      Honestly, a lot of hardtails aren't comfortable sitting and spinning because all the bumps are going to go right into your butt from lack of suspension. The difference in compliance in frame is really for standing and plowing through rocks/Roots or landing hard. I have ridden 20miles on the road on my scout and it was okay. My butt hurt because my saddle wasn't great and my butt isn't used to be sat for that many miles. I usually ride standing up as you should on a hardtail but for greens should be okay and you should be standing on blues. The scout is very zippy so it is fun at any speed

    I'm a bit dismayed about your difficulty bunnyhopping the Scout, as I just ordered a Nukeproof Scout for myself, and I hope to learn to bunnyhop properly on it. The Scout (in size M) has a stack of 608mm while the Big Al has a 634mm stack, a difference of 26mm. The Scout comes with a 25mm riser bar. Can you think of any reason I couldn't swap that out for a 50mm riser bar like the Fubar 50, effectively raising the stack by 25mm to 633mm to make it handle more like the Big Al?

    • @s14tat
      @s14tat  2 роки тому +1

      People are running riser stem with big riser bars to combat this. Those will be the cheapest things to do. People also over fork as well. The bike bunny hops good once you get the stack height nice and high. A low stack is a common thing with 27.5 wheel bikes with some exception being the commencal meta ht but I would take the scout over that 10/10 times.

You did mention scout Mullet set up in which case is a 27.5 frame conversion, while Big AL Mullet is a 29 frame conversion. While Big AL is cheaper way since wheel is cheaper than a new fork, most people would say using a new 29er fork on a 27.5 frame is the most appropriate Mullet since geometry may be similar. • @s14tat
      @s14tat  2 роки тому

      They handle differently. You have to lean the bike to corner vs steering with the bars. The bottom bracket height is also much lower on these bikes so you need to learn how to time your pedal stroke and ratcheting your crank. The upside is that they freaking will carry so much speed through the corner. You lose the twitchy responsive feeling of a xc bike in the super tight stuff for the stability in the fast and steep stuff. Anyone can learn to ride these bikes as long as your are willing to put the time to riding it correctly.

      At your height and on a bike that small you must look like a bear riding a little bike in the circus lol. Any bike will be a tremendous upgrade from what you are currently riding the size will also affect how the bike rides it will feel absolutely massive and it will feel like you don't know how to ride a bike at all. But once you learn how to ride such long and slack bikes it will all start to make sense. I also do not know what you intend to do as your primary use but the new proof scout especially the version 3 is such a nice looking frame and from all the people I spoke to the version 3 rides even better than the version 2 that I reviewed in this video. If you were comparing the version 2 to the version 3 and you can get a version 2 for cheap it's still a very good bike. But the ragley is a better bike than a version 2. My favorite hardtail right now is the Kona Honzo ESD. I was constantly searching for another bike and once I got on the Hanzo I stopped looking but it is not for everybody it is definitely for a very specific type of Rider but that bike never stops surprising me on how capable it is on things that you think it would suck at doing.

      @@s14tat I'm not sure if the fork I have is upgradable as far as air shaft goes it is a lower-end x-fusion rc32 that came stock on a full suspension bike that I put a marzocchi bomber on so I will probably end up buying another fork the travel is only 130 on the current one that I have on the nuke-proof scout 275 thanks for the information I was really skeptical about putting a 29er on a 27.5 frame but I had all the parts from another hardtail that was a 27.5 plus I just wanted a more aggressive and I can definitely feel the difference in the ride quality and is not as stiff as my previous hardtail

    Have you try specialized fuse??

      No I have not. That is the fuse and the fathom are two that I wanted to try but nobody I know has one.

    What's the max wheel size the ragley can handle for a 27.5?

    • @s14tat
      @s14tat  2 роки тому +1

      I can room to spare 2.8 but the bb is really low as a full 27.5 even with 2.8. I am talking 280mm low. You need at least a 29er fork to raise the front up if you want to run full 27.5

      @@s14tat thanks man, I'm currently in the process of building a ragley frame up. I just got a 160mm fork for mine and I was thinking of putting 27.5 x 2.8

      @@bjf5027 that was exactly how I had it until I swapped the lowers on the fork to make it into a 160mm 29er fork.

    Man I’m in the middle of building a scout 290 with 27.5+ wheels and have been having thoughts of going the mullet route. This makes me wanna try it even more.

    • @s14tat
      @s14tat  3 роки тому

      You will need 165mm cranks ( this is what I am running ), and 2.8 wheels on the back. The scout 290 has even bigger bb drop compared to the big al. The bb drop is 70mm vs 65mm and the chain stay is longer at 440mm as well. Get a bash guard and it will protect your chain ring. With the correct pedaling technique, my pedals almost never strike anything but the bashguard gets a good work out on rocky tech climbs.

      @@s14tat thanks for the heads up! I do have a brand new set of 165mm cause I saw how much the bb drop was. I have 29er fork so maybe I’ll just dish out some cash to try it out lol

      The scout hasn't changed since 2018. The 2022 will still be the same and my scout had better parts than the $2400 pro build.
      The big Al frame has been the same since 2019 as well.
