Great vid Laura, I have a scout 29er which i love. Have had various full sussers over the years, enjoyed them all and may well head that way again, though i will never get rid of the hardtail, just something about it that is addictive. 62 this year and still hanging in there 👍
I have a vitus sentier 27 vrs hardtail, cousin to nukeproof. Awesome bike, I've been riding all sorts of bikes since childhood, I'm now 57, but this is my first real mountain bike. I like the skill of navigating not just gliding over roots, rocks etc. Yes I don't go that fast but, skill, concentration, anticipation and fun is my aim.

Modern HT's can pretty much handle anything now and are so much fun. I had a whyte 905 for 2 years and it was a beast of a bike. A friend of mine rides an upgraded ragley marley and has done and kept up with me on some mega trails including adrenalin uplift. Great fun 👍
Absolutely, totally agree there. Now I’ve ridden this I can appreciate how they ride. Ridiculously fun and so capable. I felt it on some trails for sure but the bike can ride them all no bother!
I'm 6 weeks into this mountain biking hobby, the first bike I've ever owned since I was a child, I'm 37 now.. And I got an XC style hardtail. Just an entry-level Trek Marlin 8 and I have learnt so much with the limited riding I've done. Nothing as hardcore as this but yeah, hoping to upgrade to full Sus one day :)
Nice one! That's ideal to get started and hardtails definitely push you to learn good technique! I picked up a cheap second hand trail bike when I started about 7 years ago and it was great to learn on. I took chunks out of it with all my crashes 😆 then upgraded after a couple of years.

Yup I totally agree. I felt like I could take this down most of not all of the enduro stuff I ride. Granted it wouldn’t be too comfortable on some but it would ride it no bother! Brilliant fun! 😁

Great report Laura. My hardtail is an old Orange MsIsle 4X bike 26 inch wheels. Use it mostly for morning xc rides. Limited gearing so great training bike. Thanks for filming, Andy
Thanks! Sounds ideal for training. Probably quite fun on the 26inch wheels too. My gravel bike has quite hard gearing so I use it a lot for training too. Keeps the legs stronger!
Great to see you enjoyed the Hardtail. Modern long travel slack hardtails are very capable and are seriously underrated. They are more of a workout to ride fast than a full suspension, but if you rise to the challenge and lift your fitness to the level required they are very rewarding. I ride a Bird Zero AM with 160mm fork, 64 deg HA and ride everything my friends ride on their full suspension bikes and match their pace. It is very fast on trails where there are pump sections and of course efficient to pedal up hill.
Totally agree. For a first go on one I quickly realised it would be much more work than I anticipated 😅. After a couple of rides got used to it more and was such good fun! Shame I had to give it back to my mate 😂. The Bird looks great 👌

You took the words right of my mouth there!.Seeing someone actually ride these trails on a H/T makes all the difference to my confidence in taking the plunge. 🤘😎
@@RicardoPetrazzi that's great! Glad it's helped with the hardtail decision. It's honestly so good and capable. I couldn't believe how well it handled. A lot of fun to be had on these!! :D
Cracking video laura jane, good effort, i hope my 6 year old daughter can shred it like u, when it comes to it. I ride a whyte 905, with 2.8 tyres, which make a bit of difference. Took it down one of the EWS trails at glentress, it was hard going, but fun.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! Aww 6 years old is a good time to start! I wish I had got into the sport young. That sounds great, I’ve tried 2.8 tyres once and it was like having some extra suspension. Really enjoyed it so I can imagine!
29r wheels.make such a difference on hardtails. My mate has a 29r hardtail with a 62 head angle. It flipping shreds. I love my P7 but think my body has had enough or black trails on a hardtail lol. Time to look for a full sus. Great vid as always
Wow 62! Proper slack, I can imagine! Even for the full sus I'm definitely converted to the big wheels. They roll over stuff so nicely and make short work of it! Haha yeah it's definitely a physical ride on a hardtail so don't blame you! Cheers!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB Will you be making more videos riding hardtail? Would love to see more hardtail riding. Everyone ride full suspension when hardtail is the most sold bike, globally.
Hi Laura tam . Yeah I’ve got a ht bought ragley blue pig race . And I absolutely love it lol but down side is when you try a full suss you feels like it’s jus been sorta nursing you over the rough stuff but found ht faster and more fun , jus have to choose your lines better lol ( truth be told .. bet you can’t wait to get your bike back lol ?)
Oh nice! Haha I think I did it a good way around riding the full sus for years then trying the hardtail. I am definitely happy to have my full sus as the main bike! I really do think I will be buying a hardtail at some point though - you’re right they are just so fun! Definitely not as forgiving though 😂
Great video, love the comments you made on your experience. .. you got a sub. For a beginner especially a younger rider 27.5 and hardtail good budget bike is plenty good enough for many different reasons .
Thanks! Same here! I bought a gravel bike a year ago which I like but can see it maybe getting replaced with a hardtail at some point! Cheers will do! 👊
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB A gravel bike did cross my mind at one point but I think I'd still like to have that downhill capability along with being able to put in some good mileage in the saddle 👍🏿 can keep my Ariel 80 pristine for big park days then!
Absolutely brilliant, varied video as usual 👍🏽 Finally getting up to Scotland to ride the Golfie next week so great to see some of the trails and the conditions 🤙🏼
Thanks! Ah nice one. The rain did sweep in the last couple of days so it’s turned to thick mud quickly but I think next week looks drier! I was actually down south this weekend. Had a day at wharncliffe then was going to check out ladybower after seeing some of your vids. Didn’t manage to ladybower in the end but another time! Enjoy Golfie!
People look at a hardtail and think...well yes the front has suspension and the back is just rigid...but..it's the way a hardtail frame starts to pivot and dance over the fork when up to speed, that makes it so entertaining and addictive!... i think anyway!
Hey respect for giving it a good go. I have an Hardtail that I keep moding but mixed emotions to get an ebike as boys I ride with have them. They do wait for me up the hills but normally I can't speak once I get there. Down hill I'm right there if not faster haha
cheers, it was mega fun. I've got a few friends who got ebikes for a similar reason especially as their local has a ridiculously steep climb. Means more trails in the time you have without having to try and be crazy fit! All for them :)
You didn’t sell the hardtail on the golfie (bit of a shock) but bang on at Glentress, how is such physical and metal torture so much fun 🤯.. Good stuff, enjoyed your commentary!! When your on a budget (like me) they’re the way forward 😉
It was definitely a shock 😂. Got to know it a little better by Glentress and it was a bit smoother! Had a blast on it. Yeah and less maintenance too without the rear shock and pivots👌
I have just built up a Ragley Mmmbop hardtail (mullet build) 63% headangle.. Just need a few more little bits and its ready to shred.. Coming from a full sus. its gonna be great fun
Thanks! Ah it’s a great bike isn’t it! It’s an RRP Proguard. Got it on my full sus too. Big difference vs the smaller one I used to have for reducing the mud on the goggles!
I got an On One Hello Dave built up in Feb. Plan was to try out a modern 29er hardtail as a winter bike. I haven't looked at the full sus since and am probably going to sell it. The Hello Dave has no right to be as good as it is.
Sounds great. If it’s anything like this I can imagine. Just ridiculously fun and capable. I’ve handed this back to my friend now and missing it 😂. Definitely can see why hard tails are so popular. Addictive!
Ho Chi Min on a hardtail, fillins needing put back in! Well done for showing us why we allhave full suspension bikes. The HT has its place, but XC or bike adventures🤙
Haha yeah it was pretty rough that one!! 😂 I definitely like the full sus as the main bike for what I ride but that said I really do see myself buying a hardtail too at some point. This thing is a send machine and mega fun!
You miss out on a lot of fun. Enduro hardtails are trail smashers and especially amazing on rough terrain. I own one and a full sus and while I love the full sus, it's never as exciting as riding the Enduro hardtail
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB I bought a Marin San Quentin last year... thinking of selling it and upgrading to a very top of the range hardtail- full sus is cool but hardtails are for the purists 😂😂
Could you put a estimated price for the bike your using on future videos. I saw a Fox front fork so understod it was out of my price range, but nice to know ;)
What mm travel are the forks? I've got a nukeproof scout Pro 29er coming in June which comes 140mm travel, think I'll upgrade when I get the chance. Any advice on fork travel with hardtail?
These are 150mm I believe. Found them ideal for enduro stuff around tweed valley where i ride. I think 140-150 is great for this bike but that’s just me :). It depends what sort of trails you ride whether you think it’s worth changing them 👍
Hello. The Scout Pro 290 2021 model takes up to a 140mm travel fork. Anything above that voids the warranty. I have the same bike and it is a shredder. Does everything you throw at it. Let me know how you like the bike.
I've been riding this bike for 7 years now! ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L It was a great bike the day I got it, put it together, and went on my first ride; more importantly it's an even better bike today. I've ridden trails, street, and skatepark all on this bike. I have replaced almost every part on the bike. Some stuff has broken: derailleurs, wheels, shifter. Everything else were upgrades. The only ramaing original parts are the frame, bottom bracket, and crank set. BB and cranks will be upgraded soon. The geometry isn't great but that is really the only draw back to how good a value this bike is. Even after all the money I've spent upgrading it's still a more affordable bike than I'd have bought from a proper bike shop, especially with full suspension. I've also learned a lot about bikes working on it over the years. It really is one of the best perchases I've ever made and hopefully it'll still be around for another 7 years.
I'm not 100% sure, i've certainly not seen any carbon ones around. Ah that's annoying! Seems to be like that with every bike part we need this year too 😅
It was! Grinning all day on it! It depends on the trail I’d say. The first trail definitely a fair bit slower as the enduro bike just floats over everything but the 2nd trail was a smoother one and had some flat sections where this thing just went! It was effortlessly fast where my full sus would take a bit of work to carry the speed. Around Glentress etc I think It would be pretty close but golfie and rougher stuff definitely much faster on the full sus 👍
Hard tails forever . i've ridden hardtails before hardtails even existed , like back in the 1950s. i still ride a hard tail today at 75. however , wait for it ,,,, with a motor . yeah i said it , i ride an e bike . why ? because i'm over 70 and people over seventy can do and say what ever they please with zero consequence . 😂🤣😆😳😆 Seriously , that bike in the video is awesome . i would get one if my legs and back weren't so messed up . nice video.
That’s brilliant seeing biking evolve over the years! Love it! Haha 😂 Honestly I’d have an e bike at any age! So many trails in a short space of time. As you say though it means nothing stops you doing what you love as you get older. I do hope I will still be riding at 75 too. That’s an inspiration!! Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! 🙌

Cheers! It was brilliant. Really capable bikes aren't they! Having fun - that's what it's all about :D
The beauty ( the rider ) and the beast ( nukeproof scout ).
I ride a hardtail in the winter ...27.5 ,and enjoyed it so much ...I sold my full sus, for. A 62 degree head angle 1296mm wheelbase 29er ....and I blooming love it ! It's a downhill slayer ......or if would be in the hands of someone who could ride proper !
Oh wow that is mega long and slack! Sounds like a beast! I can imagine that’s ridiculously fun to ride and loves to descend!
Great video That was some proper hardtail shredding !!!
Thanks!! Had a great time on it!
I've just got a Pipedream Moxie. Can't wait to get it built. Hardtails will never die. 😃
Nice one! I know lots of people on them that love them! They look amazing 👌👍
I'm hoping to have a hardtail for the summer. This vid has got me really excited 😁
Oh that’s exciting! I can totally see myself getting one in the next year or so. Ridiculous fun!
You took the words right of my mouth there!.Seeing someone actually ride these trails on a H/T makes all the difference to my confidence in taking the plunge. 🤘😎
@@RicardoPetrazzi good luck bud 👍
@@streetpigeonmtb Thanks Man, subbed to your channel now as well....
That's a sweet HT, I wish there were more videos like this on the Canyon Stoic 4 its a sweet slack HT as well.
I did enjoy it. Sounds great. So many good slack aggressive hardtails nowadays 👌
Cheers!
Love the video...keep ride hardtail and keep having fun
Thanks! Will always have fun if there’s a bike there 😁👊
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB Will you be making more videos riding hardtail? Would love to see more hardtail riding. Everyone ride full suspension when hardtail is the most sold bike, globally.
I do love ny simple 29er hardtail...sometimes it doesn't cut it and my intense carbine 29er is a weapon
great to have the option of both 👌
Hi Laura tam .
Thanks! Appreciate it 🤘. Absolutely, there are lots of amazing hardtails out there to ride. Lots of bike for the money 👌
Great stuff! Ive been toying with the idea of a hardtail for a while, winter might be the time I pull the trigger! Keep up the good work guys 🤘🏿
Thanks!
Yeah the hardtail is much more versatile! I’ve taken the gravel bike on some sketchy stuff and it was 50/50 whether I’d make it 😂. Ah ideal!
Menacing looking hardtail, love it
it's a beast, my friend built it real nice!
Great video..nice to see about this beast
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Hi rider! Good info. I'm still keep all my hardtail MTB (5 sets). No doubt, superb bike in any decent on trail. Regards XC rider from Malaysia.
Hey thanks! Sounds great, that’s lots of hardtails🤘perfect for xc👌
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB Most welcone. Happy cranking & keep fit, safety. Btw, where is this track?!
Buying a project hardtail as a back up bike. Overall it will make the trails that are now too easy fun for me again
sounds great. I do like that about hardtails - makes the easier stuff more of a challenge!
I've got a Norco 26" hardtail. Really good for stopping you getting lazy! 👌
Haha I bet! That must be a really playful bike with the 26 inch wheels!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB makes you really appreciate 160 travel 29er
I can imagine!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB awwww, you'd love Ladybower. Hopefully can get some good footage of the Golfie 👍🏽🤙🏼
Yeah it looked ideal for what we enjoy. Next time! I’m sure you will :) every trail is just brilliant!
What graphics is it that you’ve got on the bike? Class video as always 👌
Thanks not too sure as it was borrowed off a friend. Will try find out!
People look at a hardtail and think...well yes the front has suspension and the back is just rigid...but..it's the way a hardtail frame starts to pivot and dance over the fork when up to speed, that makes it so entertaining and addictive!... i think anyway!
Nicely said! Makes sense, there’s definitely lots going on there to make it ride so well! 👌👍
Love and Respect from UK 🇬🇧
🙌
Love my Chromag Wideangle! Wouldn’t mind the comfort of a full suspension one day but until then it handles everything like a champ 🤙
nice, yeah the full suspension soaks everything up but hardtails are so much fun! 👌
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB agreed!
My old surlly instagator no slouch Angel baby.
🤘
Hey respect for giving it a good go. I have an Hardtail that I keep moding but mixed emotions to get an ebike as boys I ride with have them. They do wait for me up the hills but normally I can't speak once I get there. Down hill I'm right there if not faster haha
cheers, it was mega fun. I've got a few friends who got ebikes for a similar reason especially as their local has a ridiculously steep climb. Means more trails in the time you have without having to try and be crazy fit! All for them :)
which mic are you using?
in spite of the strong wind, your audio is VERY good.
Well done
Thanks this is just the go pro built in mic here. I use a foam cover for the go pro which is really good at blocking out the wind noise 👍
Awesome riding !!!
Thanks! 🙌
Knew I recognised Brenny's Nukeproof!
aha good spot! yeah he gave me a lend of it! Some bike!
I have just built up a Ragley Mmmbop hardtail (mullet build) 63% headangle.. Just need a few more little bits and its ready to shred.. Coming from a full sus. its gonna be great fun
ah that'll be great! I should be trying a mullet this year and looking forward to it. That will definitely be a fun bike, nice and slack!
Great video, I soo need a nukeproof scout in my life 😎
Thanks! It’s a beast of a bike 💪
Great Video, I have the same bike! What is the from mudguard/fender that you are using there?
Thanks! Ah it’s a great bike isn’t it! It’s an RRP Proguard. Got it on my full sus too. Big difference vs the smaller one I used to have for reducing the mud on the goggles!
Was the shocks upgrade you did
You should try the gt Pantera 27.5
hard tail homie cant lose!
Nicely done...I ride the same bike and it's a beast for sure ✌
Cheers and nice one 👌. It certainly is!
Love my nukeproof scout 290 👌
Nice! Nukeproof make such fantastic bikes 👌
Addictive!
what travel forks ?
these are 150mm. Think the newer 2021 model is geared up for 140mm
Grab yourself a steel frame like a Cotic or a stanton. Makes a world of difference on the bumps over alloy
So I’ve heard! Always wanted to switch someone for a trail but no one rides a small 😂
This bike is great as well as the Vitus Sentier. I actually prefer the Vitus.
Bet it is. Keen to try the Sentier sometime!
Can't beat a good hardtail for climbs and crazy descents 😂
Absolutely! Haha 😂 ridiculous fun on these!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB I bought a Marin San Quentin last year... thinking of selling it and upgrading to a very top of the range hardtail- full sus is cool but hardtails are for the purists 😂😂
Hahah dedication! Yeah why not if you enjoy it, the top spec hard tails can take a lot!
Ha, You're awesome, Great vid.
😆 thanks!
San Quentin 2 HT here! From BMX daze....
Nice one 👊
Could you put a estimated price for the bike your using on future videos. I saw a Fox front fork so understod it was out of my price range, but nice to know ;)
Hey this is a nukeproof scout 👍. You’ll be able to see the prices etc on their site
a very nice frame color :)
They’ve got some good colour schemes 👌

@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB had a look and Merida Big Trail 600 gets great reviews so went for one of them 👍😀

Yep, I love it when the bottom of my feet are slappin off my pedals. It’s a “crackin” good time!😊
I’m loving the trek Roscoe 8
Nice! That looks like a really fun bike! 👍
It depends what sort of trails you ride whether you think it’s worth changing them 👍
Hello. The Scout Pro 290 2021 model can only take up to a 140mm travel fork. Anything above that, voids the warranty.
Yes it can take a dropper post in the frame :) don’t know if it comes stock on the bike or not in 2023 but you can fit it 👍
well done, lovely place.
Thanks, yeah great scenery and trails!
I love hardtails. I have a full suspension and never ride it. Hardtails are so much more visceral.
Great video! I wish my wife could ride like you ;-)
This bike is only available in aluminum right?? Been wanting one but always sold out lol !
I'm not 100% sure, i've certainly not seen any carbon ones around. Ah that's annoying! Seems to be like that with every bike part we need this year too 😅
I live your accent!
the Scottish accent :D
hi i am a hardtail rider but more on xc and never have tried something like this trails how i wish.
That’s great. Hardtails are perfect for xc. We’re lucky in Scotland with lots of amazing trails and builders
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB yeah so much lucky keep shredding subscribed
Hyper smooth us that good these days you couldn't even tell you were on a hardtail
Isn’t it. The stabilisation is incredible and that’s not it even on the highest one. The chin mount does a good job keeping it steady too 👍
yooooo! your the best 🤘💪
Cheers 😄
i tend to ride my hardtail most rides, my full suss is in my garage feeling left out.
They are fun!
Damn that hard tail looks like so much fun to ride. It has been so long since I have ridden a hard tail. Did you find that you was much slower ?
Definitely slower, the friction of your tire not being able to absorb the bumps like on a full-sus is massive.
Whats the difference between the scout 275 and 290?
I believe just the wheel size. 290 is a 29er vs 27.5 on the 275
Hard tails forever . i've ridden hardtails before hardtails even existed , like back in the 1950s. i still ride a hard tail today at 75. however , wait for it ,,,, with a motor . yeah i said it , i ride an e bike . why ? because i'm over 70 and people over seventy can do and say what ever they please with zero consequence . 😂🤣😆😳😆
Seriously , that bike in the video is awesome . i would get one if my legs and back weren't
so messed up .
What travel for the fox 36?
the one i ride here is 150mm. Someone mentioned that the new 29er model this year is 140mm only though if staying in warranty 👍
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB yeah 140mm even on 27.5. I'm expecting my frame in two weeks. Thanks for sharing this video! What a ride.

Had a four day ridding sesh In Scotland on it starting at fort william for a day down to Arran for some natural off piste stuff and onto golfie today 🤘🏻I’m battered but I just love that bike 🤟🏻
Wow sounds like a super few days. Covered all sorts of riding! Fort William must have been pretty rough on it! Good going. Haha I can understand just how much fun it is now I've had the chance to have a good ride on one! Such a great bike!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB yep it was tough at fort william for sure .. I got my eye in on lines and the trail and it started to piece together ok 👌🏻.. but the impact was tough for sure ..
All though by the 4th day of riding I found the golfie the toughest technically and I enjoyed that place the most ... can’t wait to get back up there .. I managed to clean run , New York, 3G, repeat offender, flat White, community service, and another two trails that linked together with minty cake .. then I collapsed lol 😆 ... knackered out !
