- These grey fountain pen inks are grey and blue and purple and black? Honestly grey fountain pen ink is super hard to find for me. I have yet to get a bottle of grey ink because of the dilemma of what is actually grey. In this video I have 10 ink samples that are all grey...ish. Let me know in the comments what color you want to explore next!

diamine earl grey is my absolute favourite! i love using that ink with a fude nib and then brushing it out with water, you get the most pretty blue and pink separations, and if you layer over it you get a very dark close to black colour. fantastic for artists who want some versatility 🥰
Yes!! Love the shading in that one!
Lexington Grey is for years my ink to go - aside from Pelikan blue-black.
The best grey imo
Thanks - have just ordered a couple of those as I find black too overwhelming and most blues too bright for when I’m writing. Browns next, please! 😊
Lexington Gray is bullet proof so it works well for archival correspondence.
That is great to know! Thank you for sharing!
Very nice collection of greys! My first love was Kaweco Smokey Grey, I love how light but readable it is. I also love Earl Grey. Recently I have been into darker greys and my two favourites are Monteverde Smoke Noir - absolutely love how it writes darker but dries this beautiful smokey grey and Diamine Graphite - for a darker, greenish grey. Then there are also some "fake" greys I love: Diamine Vivaldi and Chopin and Herbin Cocoa du Bresil. Highly recommend any of those.
I will have to try those out!! Thank you for the suggestions and for watching ❤️️
I use Noodler’s and have never noticed a smell.
1. Good info, thanks.
2. When drawing or painting, I like to use Lexington Gray in place of black, which can be too harsh sometimes.
3. I use a lot of Herbin Gris Nuage, the palest gray ink I could find. Very handy when drawing/painting, but usually unreadable when writing.
Thank you! For a pale grey "wash" as I call it, I like DeAtramentis Document Light Grey but I haven't tried the Herbin Gris Nuage, I will be adding that to my list!
@@mydandeliondiaries and I must try Doc Light Grey, as I plan to focus on De Atr Doc inks from now on. For the lightfastness.
Greys can look so different once you swatch them side-by-side! I have 4 Birmingham Inks that are all grey (Ingot, Ancho Chile Pepper, Blast Furnace, and Sterling Silver,) but so different! However, they just look "grey" to me when I write with them, and I can only see how different they are with an ink splat or paintbrush swatching.
I haven't tried any Birmingham inks yet, but maybe broader nibs will showcase how different they are!
@@mydandeliondiaries Let me know if you would like samples! I have way too much ink because I only buy giant bottles (not sure why, I guess I'm a risk-taking optimist?)
That would be so amazing! Would you send me an email? info.thedandeliondiaries@gmail.com
Great video! I liked your favorite but also the Earl gray and the two FWP inks.
Thank you for watching! It's always hard to choose a favorite.
Interesting grey swatches! Looking forward to blue black inks 🥰
Video is coming soon! Thanks for the suggestion. 😊
Now I’m going to need to buy some of that fog grey. Thanks for the video.
Suggestion: Water Resistant Inks
Herbin Gris orage is beautiful
I'm looking for a gray, so this video was so fun for me! Re: liking that FWP color - you don't have to shake up the bottle. Just fill up your pen from the top and you can enjoy the color without shimmer. 🤗
Awesome! Thank you! I recently got a sample of DeAtramentis Document Urban Grey too, it is a wonderful one to try out and not too warm or cool in color.
I appreciate this list. I primarily write in grey unless it’s prohibited. I ❤
You're so welcome! I love grey for its "softness." Glad it was helpful ☺️
I agree with you about Noodler's inks smelling awful. I hate the scent of their inks and they all smell different (i have 4, all different scents). My favorite smelling ink is Sailor inks, I LOVE the smell for some reason 😅
Love Diamine Earl Gray, I think I'm gonna have to pick it up.
The earl gray has a really nice look to it in writing too. It shades really nicely.
love your ring!
Thank you!!
Gray along with royal blues are my go to for daily writing. Fuyu-syogun is my favorite, by a mile. Lexington Gray comes in second, love it, and you’re missing my third, Herbin Cacao Du Brésil, which is a wonderful brownish gray, not really brown, you should try it if you haven’t.
I hate shimmer inks with a vengeance but I’m very partial to J. herbin 1670 Stormy Gray.
I will look into the Herbin inks you mentioned! I love brown inks, so a brown toned grey sounds delightful 😊
I am not usually a grey fan, lets see if you change my mind with this video. Its not unreasonable to think it might, as you completly turned me into an OLIVE lover!!! (Thank you so much by the way). Looking forward to watching this one. (I will probably comment as we go )
I think grey inks are beautiful, and are something I lean toward in the summer and fall months. Plus they are softer to look at than black inks, but, I will say they are an acquired taste haha.
I’m also peeved with narrow openings, but you’ve certainly got some Dominant Industry bottles and they come with tiny bulb eye droppers.
Try the Akkerman gray; elegant.
Thanks for the recommendation! I'm wanting to try more and more Akkerman inks. I feel like they have a complexity to them. Plus the bottles are so fun.
@@mydandeliondiaries …it’s Akkerman #29, by the way. Diamine Ash shades beautifully.
Thank you! I have added them to my list 😊
Thanks - very helpful!
Thank you!
Ha! Found the browns video ❤
So glad you are enjoying your ink hunt!
I got caught up in a Noodlers buying frenzy in the beginning of my fountain pen and ink journey as they were inexpensive. However I find now I have them all packed away and I never use them…. I have many others I prefer MUCH more.
Noodlers is hit or miss. I find that they are VERY wet so I can only really put them into super fine nibs. If I put them into broad/stub pens it's like a river flowing out of the pen!
I’ve only tried the Pilot Iroshizuku ones of these grey inks, but I’ve noticed that I like Kiri-same much more than the other one. Do you have any more suggestions on inks with a similar tone as Kiri-same, but that’s still another brand? Maybe it isn’t necessary to have two inks that’s very similar, but there’s always some things that’s different between each brand & colour & that’s fun, right? 😅🙈😉
I would check out DeAtramentis Silver Grey! I love the shading that one has but it is slightly darker than the Kiri Same. Hope that helps!
@@mydandeliondiaries Oh I’ll check it out! Although I’ve not found any resellers in Sweden/EU yet who is selling De Atramentis Ink 😕
I would like to see the line of SketchINK by Rohrer & Klingner. They are said to be beautiful, waterproof, and non-feathering. Thank you.
Great suggestion! I will look out for those inks if I can find them :)
Waaait, just before I watch the video I need to ask you: what brand is that skeleton washi tape & what’s it called? It looks cool! 🤩
it is from Cognitive Surplus! They have SO many science like washi tapes 💖 cognitive-surplus.com/collections/medical-student-gifts/products/skeleton-washi-tape?variant=39666551193677
Could you tell me if the grey fog bleeds through Tomoe River paper?
It does not bleed through on the original TRP but I have yet to try it on the Sanzen paper. And since it is a Documnet ink it will be more permanent against water!
*looks at april showers-
*looks outside-
yeah seems legit
Hahahah this made me giggle. It has been a very wet April.
