With iron sights, if your shot hits above your POA, and you raise your rear sight, your next shot will hit even HIGHER than you previous shot. It’s always about comparing the point of aim to the point of impact.
If your shot hit too high, you need to make your rifle shoot lower. To do that, you need to lower the muzzle. To do that, you need to make the rear sight lower so that, as you said, the muzzle will have to come down to meet it.
This was a very good way to explain this for beginners. I am a trainer so I often watch videos on any topic I can find where people teach something to others hoping to pick up new ideas ans skills for my work.
There are a lot of bad instructors and instruction here on UA-cam, but I always try to let people know when they do an exceptional job. You have natural teacher/training skills or you are a well trained teacher/trainer. I either case, great job with your video!
on iron sites, if you hit is high. move your rear sight down! always go the opposite direction! if you hitting right move your rear sight left.
Yea I noticed that he got that ass backwards.
I think you mean Bass Ackwards
He got the scope wrong too.
No the scope part does actually work
Bart Fortune is this whole video designed to make you a worse shot?? Cuz now this comment says if u hit high to aim your rear sights down... that will literally make u hit higher!!!
Your scope instructions are great, got my daughters gun sighted in with two shots and shot a 1&1/2" group at 50 yards, but your iron sight instructions are wrong you move the rear sight the opposite way of your point of impact. i.e. If your bullet strikes the target low of the point of aim, move your rear sight up, this will cause you to raise the front of your gun, in turn raising the point of impact.
Trappin Fool Yikes I didnt even realize I did that lol. Sorry. Thank you for the correction
always watch your video BEFORE you post lol
Finally someone knows how to speak to beginners; thank you
Finally, somebody really explained it. Thank you!
bro you answered my question in first 3 minutes. i used to always adjust scope bring the bullet up. not with the mindset that i was moving crosshairs down to the bullet hole. man that makes total sense dont see how i fucked that up. thank you, i had already bought a new scope but when having the same problem i turned to you tube. glad i did. thanks again
I was doing that same mistake. I didn't even realize it when the POI just moved further and got frustrated.
Me to was getting pissed LOL.
smokinone951 that messed me up too. I thought my scope was bad because when I turned the turret up the reticle move down, same for left or right. This video helped me realize you are moving the reticle to the POI not to the bullseye.
This guy has it wrong. The instructions for every scope I have had says to bring your shot to the cross hairs. In other words if you shoot low then you adjust your scope in the direction on the turret that says up. That brings your shot up to the level of the cross hairs.
smokinone951 common sense ain’t so common anymore now that there’s COMMON CORE LMFAO!!!j/k bro
With regards to iron sights, if you are shooting low you should raise the rear sight. If you are shooting high, you should lower the rear sight. You have it backwards. Think about it.... if you are shooting low, raising the rear sight forces you to raise the front sight to make a proper sight picture which raises the point of impact. I think you made the verbal equivalent of a typo.... hopefully. The info on the scope is good.
Just asking, when did they start using rear sites for elevation as so many are saying hear, all my fire arms the rear is windage and front elevation.
How do you adjust elevation with a front site short of changing it?
I need help with adjusting my scope on my rifle the bullet is shooting wayy to high
OUTSTANDING PRESENTTION !!! Short, simple, and straight to the point.
Edwin Acevedo And super low tech lol. Thanks for that I appreciate it
And wrong lol
Thank you! I was so confused on this. Some youtubers were claiming to make adjustments back to the center rather than making adjustments to your shot(s).
You da man!!!
I've been shooting too long not to know this , well explained !
Thank you. Concise and informative , I enjoyed listening to your vid.
your adjusments are backwards. If you adjust the sights as you describe, the sights will be farther off.
True
I think on iron sights you move opposite the direction you missed otherwise you’re making the problem worse.
Thank you for making this process so easy. For years it has taken me a long time to get my scope figured out and it was just by luck. I actually went out today and tried sighting in my slug shotgun without getting it zeroed in & after using too many shotgun shells. Was frustrated. Thank you so much.
Excellent video. Very clear for a beginner like me. Now I'm excited to get to the range and make the adjustments.
Thank you very much. It was very helpful. Thanx for sharing! J/Sweden
Geez people if you dont like the video dont watch. As for iron sights i dont know but the scope potion helped me alot. Thanks for the great video
Have not shot much, but I've acquired several rifles. One in particular is the Moss berge MVP Varmint, your basic explanation of scope adjustment sure clear things up for me. Thank you and great Vid.
HYDROGENTEK Thanks very much. Nice gun
Thanks for this post!!! A Video like this was MUCH NEEDED! For All New Shooters as It tells them exactly what they need to know in easy to understand terms. Theres so much info. out here for fine tuning etc. But Very Few Vids on The 123 Basics and this is The Best One Ive found as of yet. Really No need for New Shooters to look any futher. This tells them what they need to know. Plus its easy to understand even for those who are lacking any exp. whatsoever. THANKS. GREAT POST!!!
Woah! Who’s this guy? Just came across this old video to get a understanding scope adjustments.
First common sense explanation on scope adjustment without wasted time talking...Thanks for being so aware.
Your explanation is so easy to follow!!!
Neat trick for the scope. Here I am doing the math and clicking to calculations, (using rounds), and you zoomed in physically to one shot, saving at least 6 rounds, because I never did the math that well.
JAJAJA I have being so ignorant to adjust my rifles, this video makes it so easy to do it. thank you so much The Daily Shooter..
If you get on paper with a scope and there are markings of inches in circles you can see. Figure out how many clicks you need to move the point of aim to the bullet to the bullet. Nobody puts bullets through the same holes on a string very often, so a three shot group would be good. Move the point on the scope to the center of that. The next group should also be there too.
I totally agree. Im hitting quarter size objects with out any vise just standing. Thank you so much for that tip thumbs up
Iron sights had me confused big time and was adjusting ass backwards... thanks pal
Very simple very good explanation. Thank you
Very essential ,important basic information so fundamental to shooting success and well explained too---thanks!
Man man, so easy from your instruction!!! Great vid
Thank you for this video. It's clear, in simple easy-to-understand language and concise. I'm a beginner and I appreciate your help very much.
wasabinguyen Thank you I'm glad
its wrong. Do not listen to this video
Thank you. I finally figured it!
I think you're mistaken on iron sights. Raising the rear sight raises poi. Adjusting the rear sight to the right puts poi more to the right.
+Chimney Fish I'm WITH YOU CHIMMEY ,I tried this just aiming at a marked paper plate and it turns out like you say if you raise the rear site your pointing the front site and barrle more upward same with left and right opposite of what he says.
+Rondo Schiavoni that is true and logical. if it is shooting high you wanna bring the barrel down not up. if it is shooting to the right(left) u wanna bring your barrel to the left(right).
Indeed you're mistaken on iron sights. Moving the rear sight up, down, left, or right will "move" the point of impact (POI) up, down, left, or right, as the case may be. So if you're POI is high, moving the rear sight up will "move" it higher all the more.
Hey all you 'newbies'. Please note that SOME iron sights have an adjustable FRONT sight , and it can be for either ELEVATION (usually) OR WINDAGE!! It really is RARE for windage adjustment on the front sight, but I HAVE seen a rifle or two. Just remember that not ALL rear sights adjust for BOTH elevation AND windage. CHEERS_ and please ALWAYS shoot safe!
Thank you buddy.Very clear explanation. Now i get it.
Great, simple explanation. Well done!
Thank you for putting that in layman's terms! Great video!
you got the iron adjustments wrong.
Good explanation for scopes a lot clearer than most.ill subscribe fella
pure genius, this saves about 10 shots
hey I think this video is wrong friend. I followed your instructions to help my brother sight in his new rifle scope and to get it sighted in I had to do the exact opposite of what you just said. I do however sight my compound bow in this way though
Great video... Very good descriptions with the diagrams thank you
This video is everything I needed to sight in my ar👍🏿
Excellent. Now I finally understand. Thanks
The Daily Shooter, thank you for this video. I've watched several and they get so involved in being technical and rushing through the process that they lose me and I'm sure they lose others.
Doing a visual as you did, without a weapon, without going out to the range, you made it easy to understand and thought a newbie in scope sighting how to do this. I'm downloading this video for future reference.
By the way, I seldom give praise on UA-cam because I find most videos are poorly done and seldom done with the viewer in mind, they make videos to impress us but not to teach us.
Thank you for doing this video!
Thanks.I am new to scopes and this helped out a lot!
Tom Bettendorf I'm glad. Thank you
Good info!Thanks!
Thanks for the video. This is the ONLY one I could find that just talked about the basics
Good information. It looks like I need to work on this
Wrong - with iron sights you move the rear sight opposite of the impact point.. If the impact is left then move the rear sight to the right, if it impacts high then move the rear sight down.. Scope adjustments are generally the opposite of iron sights in that you follow your point of impact.. If it hits left then move the cross hairs to left.. (scope adjustment are generally the same principle as a front sight), however some import scopes are opposite (in there markings) in that the left adjustment is actually moving the cross hairs to the right (which follow the same principle as a rear sight adjustment).. This is done to make it easier for the shooter in that if they are hitting to the left so they figure they need to move the impact to the right (but internally the scope is really moving the cross hair (left) opposite to the indicated direction).. This is simple to figure out - if it impacts to the left and you turn your scope left and it hits further left then you know it is reversed.. (and behaving like a rear sight) if it does the correct adjustment (then it is behaving like a front sight)..
Thank you for this video!
simple and straightforward explanation...good job..thanks
aramsdca Thanks very much I appreciate it
Hello Daily Shooter, enjoyed the video, very simple adjusments Thanks and it saves a lot of ammo. Thanks. Buck Burnette
You will not save ammo only lose more if you listen to him on the iron sights portion
Thank you for the advice buddy! I will try.
Awesome video but there are iron sights that have adjustable front sights for elevation while the rear is for windage. Most back up iron sights that are being sold on ar-15s are like this and a lot of handguns for competition have them. Granted if you have a competition handgun you are probably not a beginner.
Good video man! I sometimes forget to do that when zeroing a rifle.
Its one of those things. I only remembered because I cleaned a gun and had to resight the damn thing lol
This video makes a ton of sense and I understand the concept. Probably one of the better ones on youtube. I wish I had a one of those stands or mounts that I see other people use to sight in with two shots. Are you opposed to the three shots aimed at the bullseye, followed by adjustments based on shot group?
back to the basics...good vid
great vid daily
kabaruser Thanks buddy
great explanation - thanks - very helpful
New shooter and so great to have found this video you posted thanks! It answered MANY questions I had! THANKS!!
great - i agree - thanks so much. Clear and consice
Great explainations there.
PaltryPete Thank you sir
Good video, simple and to the point...
Thanks for your video. Very helpful
Thanks Albert
thnks im a 12 year old thnks forleson could u mke a vid on how toget better aim on the crossman 760 with no scope
However to adjust iron sights to shoot up, move the rear sight up and to move right move the rear sight right.
Dude thank you soooooo much other people make it seem so hard to do but you make it so simple
Good video, I have been sighting in my scope the wrong way, and never knew it until now. Thanks.
me too
Excellent explanation.
Very helpful thanks
I like the method, but your not clear on scope adjustment. If bullet is low and right, you would adjust elevation turret up and wind turret left. Long range shooters don't adjust elevation turret down if zeroed at 300 and shooting a 600 yard target... Had me mind f&$?ed for a minute.
The iron sight section is misleading also
lance johnson Lance I know your comments 3 years old but I need help. My shots are dropping way low. Do I raise or lower the crosshairs to compensate? On a 4x32 scope
great tutorial had never adjusted an scope and its now 95% accurate thank you very much
He had me extremely confused with the iron sight explanation. I kept thinking, "If you move the rear sight up, you'll have to raise your barrel so the front will align with the rear....and, you'll shoot EVEN HIGHER than you initially did." Glad to see the other comments else I would have wasted more time thinking about this. I think he got mixed up from transitioning from the scope to the irons (i.e. adjusting the sight to the level of the target)
Excellent video, thanks
Nice video will help me sight in my new rifle thanks mate
I'm glad and thank you very much
Thanks man your a big help!
for sighting in a scope i do the complete opposite as if i want to move the bullet hole closer to the point of aim and it works.
Now I’m just confused... I literally just watched another video seconds ago n his point of impact was high right so it showed him adjusting the turrets left n down ie moving the point of impact from high right to on point... your video says exactly the opposite... yours shows point of impact low right n your saying to turn turrets right n down... which is it???
My Sightron and my Tasco are opposite. From the circular arrow on the turret adjustment, the Sightron shows which way to move the GROUP; the Tasco shows which way to move the CROSSHAIRS. For a while, I thought someone was trying to "gaslight" me.
Put it in a gun vice, pick an aimpoint and shoot your target. After the recoil, you will need to point your gun back on the same aimpoint and lock down the vice. Then move the crosshairs until they are over your impact. From there, you will be close and only need to make minor adjustments....
My problem is the turrets say up ^ and left
@@bradybell6129 yes! I think this might be why my new (inexpensive, but quite nice) scope is driving me nuts!
Thanks so much for the info. Great vid.
Nice video thanks
Great work.
+therealrrc Thank you
Wrong on the iron sights part.
A great vid it helped very much 7 shots and was at zero thanks
Thank you.
Applause applause. Thank you so much
KINGSPADEE
Excellent - thanks, man!
Excellent
Easy way to think about scope crosshairs and what adjustments do:
Imagine you have a rifle perfectly zeroed. You’re looking through your scope and the intersection of the reticles is exactly on your bullseye.
Now, for some reason, the horizontal reticle starts to slip. Slowly, it’s moving lower and lower in your sight picture, like it’s adjusting itself on its own. But you want to keep it aimed right at your bullseye - so what would you instinctively do? You’d raise the barrel up to compensate for the downward drift of the reticle.
Now you’re on zero aim again. Suddenly, your scope’s vertical reticle has a mind of its own and starts wandering to the right. Well, you want to keep it on the bullseye - so you move the barrel to the left to keep the crosshairs aimed at your bullseye.
Simple!
Excellent, thank you sir!
dampy Thank you
Thank you for sharing this video. I bought a scooter for my air rifle. But I can't seem to zero it in..
With iron sights remember "FORS"
Forward opposite
Rear same
SRH love your shirt
OK, so basically, if bullets are going below and to the right of our reticle, we adjust the scope down and to the right. Got it. Thanks.
D Mayer but if bullet is low and right you need to turn turret up and left. this confused the hell out of me, I thought my scope was broken! Turning turret up moves the POI down, moving turret left moves POI right. I kept doing the opposite, and kept getting further off target. It's counter intuitive but once you understand it, it makes sense.
Amazing vid man, keep it up, helped a lot, i have an airgun and i'm 14.
thanks this helps a lot.
Very helpful! Thanks...
a lot of riffles adjust at the front sight, and some adjust windage at the rear and elevation at the front sight.
You made this way easier than other videos. Kudos.
finally someone answered my question
wrong answer. Not correct
