Testing BB-8's stabilization using the updated design

  • BB-8's internals were updated to support a lot more weight and every single part was redesigned and reprinted. Instead of 8mm shafts it now uses 1/2" aluminum box section. The main drive motor now also directly connects to the body and the neck mechanism is completely new.
    The motor that tilts the body has also been changed for a MUCH stronger unit. In this video the side-to-side stabilization code was modified to work with the new motor and tested. Excuse the mess of wires, it's way easier to test using these longer standard pieces before I create custom-lengths.

    Looks great! Did you use your graphing technique for mapping the PID values? You should make a tutorial on how to do that, that would be helpful to a lot of us!

      The PID was already well tuned, all I had to do was multiply the input angle as the new motor has more steps per revolution so needed larger numbers to move the same amount. When done I plan to produce a series of videos that show each step, a sort of video build guide. I could include a video of the graphing as part of that.
