This is just a little advice for the people in this channel. You have great content but when interviewing people you should do less talking and more asking and listening. Make your guests the focus more. They spend most of the time listening to the interviewer here. Just trying to help.
+Ron Jaxon I agree, but Norm is very, very good at taking little bits of information from people who aren't very good at interviewing and elaborating on it, asking prodding questions, and the like. It sounds like he's stealing the spotlight, but usually he's very good at explaining what he already knows to the audience and getting the things that need to come from someone else out of the interviewees.
+441meatloaf This is what was annoying me the most. Basically him explaining to the guy who already probably knows how it works. I just want to hear the guy talk about his work, and the interviewer is just spouting off. It would be better if there was a separate commentary if he really wanted to say something. This whole video was a bit redundant, because Norm could have done this on his own and basically gotten the same result.
I agree with everyone else when they said to let Mr. Senna talk. We know that Norm has a basic knowledge of robotics but we want to hear the person being interviewed actually speak on something that he is very knowledgeable at.
my guess as to why the shell was so thick is so it could create more distance between the magnets causing less friction during movement. This is probably why it was so wobbly when they put it in the clear shell.
Durability. For example, the Hasbro BB8 (this video is on Sphero) snaps if it falls an inch. This guy's head falls off during a long fall, but other than that it just keeps rolling.
its unbelievably annoying isnt it? especially when its will and norm on the screen and they seem to try and battle over who talks the most or interrupts someone the most
+Mr. Nat A good bit, but less the weight of a fat nerd such as myself :D I'm all the weight it'll need. Now can I register it with the department of motor vehicles?
Well if he talked much from the start of the vid and then the rest of Mike talking. I agree if that would happen. The half of the vid for norman, and the other half for Mike.
The interviewer is pretty full of himself. "so what do you think is the reason for the wobbling of it?" "Well I can't see any mechanical stableness" "That's right, I knew that and now I'm going to give you a lecture on how to make the perfect sandwich".
omg some ppl are exited to get back to a comment dont fucking judge other on such stupid shit, like thats the best you can do ? jump at the sign of miss spelling ? get a life dude word up' ! one thing for sure you got the point tho despite the fact that it was misspelled huh ? message conveyed
Sometimes to be an interviewer u must interrupted the guest talking because to avoid extra time or to avoid they talking out of topic (just in case). Sometimes the producer put the headphones to interviewer so the producer can give instructions when the interviewer must interrupted the talk to allow commercial break or to avoid extra time.
Just a thought, the thicker shell could be there to slightly reduce the magnetic connection between the head and the tower inside the Sphero to allow for smoother movement. Which could explain why the Sphero BB-8 (with its new shell) weeble-wobbled more then it did with the original ball shell.
+Erlend Powell Ya, they could try changing out the magnets. However, it would be much easier to just add some layers of (for instance) scotch tape on top of the magnets; until the thickness of the scotch tape layers & the thickness of the clear shell are about equal. Then it should resume behavior.
Danon Alexander My point was that the original shell wouldn't have been thicker to reduce the magnetic field, because they would have been able to just use a weaker magnet when it was designed. In other words, the thickness probably served some other purpose.
Danon Alexander That said, you're probably correct that the new shell had issues due to the new distance from the magnet. Not sure how your scotch tape idea would help though...
+Erlend Powell You're right you could still switch out the magnet, however manipulating the thickness of the shell plastic is considerably easier to get the desired effect then to find a different magnet that would give the same desired behavior. & ya your right, scotch tape probably wouldn't be the best choice.
This is one of the reasons why I don't like Tested that much. They always got interesting topics and they knew a lot. But Norm seems talks too much even with Will.
Heh. You're right. We could have learned almost anything from him if most of the vid is about Mike explaining ang blah blah. But instead, I keep hearing Norman BLAH BLAH
The BB-8 Sphero clearly has electronic stabilization. Notice at 8:55 when they begin talking about the method of stabilization that the stage model uses, as Mr. Senna turns the toy, the inner working vehicle of the sphero is self correcting on the yaw axis. This indicates some type of sensor feedback is causing the inner vehicle to move to correct the moment. Its likely that it has sensory feedback for the pitch and roll as well. The weight at the bottom of the vehicle is to counter the moment of applying torque to the outer sphere. Without weight on the inner vehicle located below the center point of the outer sphere, the shpero have no ability to overcome even the slightest of grades or smallest of debris, nor would it be able to begin moving or come to a stop on its own. The inner vehicle would simply roll with or do loops inside the outer sphere with little effect on the spheros movement across a plane. If BB-8 featured in the movie used only this method of propulsion, it may yield some ineffectual results in space away from strong gravitational fields.
Yeah I have the limited edition sphero that has clear lines that lets you see the insides of the sphero. It's pretty Damn cool, it's crazy the amount of technology inside these things.
Well there are, but I thought they were using the magnet s to move the head about on a separate sort of swivel. But all it has to do is turn inside to turn the head. However, Im starting to think the head piece may have had its own internal set of servos, and it simply attached to the ball magnetically.
heres a suggestion.... instead of having the head sit on the body and letting it slide around, why not have the head somewhat like a ball bearing. at the bottom of the head u can see at the bottom of the head its just an indent and a ring going around it. on that ring is where the ball bearings would go so the head can roll around much easier and because the assembly on the inside is light, its being held back by the friction (as u can see here 7:30) between the head and the body (because the magnets are holding it together). putting ball bearings around the surface of the head that makes contact on body would eliminate that and movement would be alot smoother. also the slight lag you see when the head moves (8:00) would also be eliminated. but this is just a suggestion. great device tho!
It must have been that he was feigning surprise for the interview. I was at celebration in the same room ...when BB8 was first rolled out on stage. It had been released in the news a month before at least that BB8 was not CGI and was a practical "effect" robot. It was great to see in person but I think most people were aware it wasn't CGI by that point.
Mike Senna ALSO made a working BB-8 Droid Replica! Watch here: ua-cam.com/video/DUTbvXJg_P0/v-deo.html
You’re a fucking idiot
This is just a little advice for the people in this channel. You have great content but when interviewing people you should do less talking and more asking and listening. Make your guests the focus more. They spend most of the time listening to the interviewer here. Just trying to help.
Yeah, it's really annoying!
+Ron Jaxon Was about to say the exact same thing. If you've got an expert, let him talk.
441meatloaf
so much this.
+441meatloaf This is what was annoying me the most. Basically him explaining to the guy who already probably knows how it works.

7:07 his fucking enthusiasm is through the fucking roof.
GREAT SCOTT
For me this is MUCH better than american science entertainment TV programs with all the "whoa! awesome! let's do that!".
+Milky Mike - Home of the Console War well how would you react: holy shit it fits...!!! has science gone too far?
+AcTivePlayZ it was more lower case.
+Milky Mike - Home of the Console War well, he might not have wanted to break a toy bb that he only just got given
I agree with everyone else when they said to let Mr. Senna talk. We know that Norm has a basic knowledge of robotics but we want to hear the person being interviewed actually speak on something that he is very knowledgeable at.
+Artistjm thats what i was wondering. which one was the guest? reporter needs to shut his mouth or find something different to do
What all the comments are saying :
LET HIM TALK!
Love them or hate them they’re spitting facts rn
my guess as to why the shell was so thick is so it could create more distance between the magnets causing less friction during movement. This is probably why it was so wobbly when they put it in the clear shell.
+Jacob Carlson (Check Out Jacob) why wouldn't they just use weaker/smaller magnets, then?
You'll have to ask them :-)
The original sphero has the same thickness, that thing is practically invincible.
+dporiua Yeah, it's probably just for protection
Durability. For example, the Hasbro BB8 (this video is on Sphero) snaps if it falls an inch. This guy's head falls off during a long fall, but other than that it just keeps rolling.
The dude acted like he knew more than the expert.
He always does. It bothers me so much
I like Music typical Asian they lack social and English skills but are “good” in mathematics. He kept repeating the same shit over and over.
Why did they visit Mike if norm was going to do all the talking? I wanted to see more of that guy.
You must be new to the channel
Been here for years. I just notice how much norm interrupts people and doesn't let then talk more as time goes on.
its unbelievably annoying isnt it? especially when its will and norm on the screen and they seem to try and battle over who talks the most or interrupts someone the most
+Beardhunter Norm just tries to hard to show how much he knows, or attempt to cut them off so he can answer first
Yep. I wonder is he aware of it himself. Someone must have mentioned it to him at some point.
Wait......if you make one of these 1000 times bigger.......you could make the gyrosphere from jurassic world
+Lightsaber Phoenix KATAMARI DEATH SPHERE FTW!
+Lightsaber Phoenix huh...
+Lightsaber Phoenix Well I don't see why not. It would be very very heavy though. I mean imagine the weight it would have to have on the bottom!
+Mr. Nat A good bit, but less the weight of a fat nerd such as myself :D I'm all the weight it'll need. Now can I register it with the department of motor vehicles?
Nineunbuffed I sure can't say the same for myself! I'm the underweight nerd type. xP
Norm interviews a genius in robotics, than wont let the guy speak and instead tries to explain everything himself.
+sum gt I was thinking exactly the same thing! You're a nice guy Norm, but please, let the guy you're interviewing talk!
+sum gt
**then**
your right
sum gt So true, beyond annoying... Almost unwatchable
But
Bb8
Norman please let the experts talk. I understand you're excited, but please calm down.
Well if he talked much from the start of the vid and then the rest of Mike talking. I agree if that would happen. The half of the vid for norman, and the other half for Mike.
Nah, I come to this channel for norm, not some roboexpert 😤
Is that Wolverine's hair style?
+reytheboy Thank god someone else noticed it...
+reytheboy hi 5
+reytheboy Paulie from The Sopranos
+reytheboy Ace Ventura Pet Detective.
That was my immediate thought.
Wow, Wolverine has really let himself go.
😁
And became Asian?
+Matthew Tom oh my fuck so damn technical
Lol
Madnice lm
Norm is that annoying kid in class shooting his hand up to answer every question. Christ let someone else talk for once .
+Nick funny but true and hey aint nothing wrong with that, that was me in elementary
+Nick Still better than Will.
+Nick What's worse is that he states the obvious like he was someone envious of people with triple digit IQ's.
+Robert Evans Like me? I have 144.
Nick I subscribe
The interviewer is pretty full of himself. "so what do you think is the reason for the wobbling of it?" "Well I can't see any mechanical stableness" "That's right, I knew that and now I'm going to give you a lecture on how to make the perfect sandwich".
Louie Wilkinson ahaha
Mike that the best hair in the world.
+Kipah i know he kinda looks like a TEKKEN fighter suits him
+Kipah kinda wolverine...
Perv God It's simply a typo. There is no hole in my grammar that causes me to think 'that' is interchangeable with 'has'.
omg some ppl are exited to get back to a comment dont fucking judge other on such stupid shit, like thats the best you can do ? jump at the sign of miss spelling ? get a life dude word up' ! one thing for sure you got the point tho despite the fact that it was misspelled huh ? message conveyed
+Kipah It's like combover Wolverine.
he acts like he's an expert in front of an expert this guy knows this stuff already !
"be real careful"
punches it
i love this guy
why wont the interviewer let the expert talk
Sometimes to be an interviewer u must interrupted the guest talking because to avoid extra time or to avoid they talking out of topic (just in case). Qing Yao i
I thought it was just a tiny mindcontrolled hamster inside
+Quinten0409 It works just like that though :)
+Navyle nah thats the Hasbro version ;)
+lukesuperflyjones hasbro is not allowed to put moving parts that are active unless it is sand
lnterviewer interview himself as expert. Let Mike talk. Damm
BB-8 The name is so simple and genius in the same time. Perfect!
warning: do not watch this video unless you are old enough, there are naked robots in this video, please watch with caution
LOL XD
LOL . At least the robot was not too embarrassed about it. Must have been 18 instead of 8.
here hold this L.
Damn Malaysian boy, let the man talk. You were basically interviewing yourself.
+gary gavina norman is malaysian??
Davyd Lin older videos in 2011 he mentioned it.
darkliberty Yea me too, I'm sure everyone else wanted to hear Mike talk more. It is what it is.
Heh. You're right. We could have learned almost anything from him if most of the vid is about Mike explaining ang blah blah. But instead, I keep hearing Norman BLAH BLAH
Wow someones racist and quick to hate
So far , I have only heard of John Senna !!!
you're the new champion Mike Senna .
10:05 fucking creeper lookin through yo windos hide yo bb-8s
I know right wtf.
that was the real reporter before this guy hijacked the interview
.o. I must hide my WiFi too
guynumber20 lol yeah
I know this has nothing to do with the droids.... BUT... Mike's hair is Beautiful XD
Greatest haircut in the business!
This mans hair swoop makes him look quite flamboyant lol
The Host should've just explained this to us by himself rather than having an expert and not letting him talk. tss. :/
I think it's hilarious that every person Norm talks to is just like can you stop being the way you are 😂
I want to see one modified to look like Bigweld. I mean, it's so obvious.
After all these years I am now have subscribed to this channel! Wow. Where have I been right?? Haha.
does this hair comes with retractable claws?
The expert thinked "when my time will come? let me talk". Uffff ! but Norman was soo excited..it's okay.. It happens..
Once again, Norm canNOT keep his hands to himself, and has to touch/pick up things he's not meant to.
Tested is awesome in ways that move by themselves.
7:19 anyone else see those pink lines? I'm guessing the camera they used is able to pick up certain wavelengths other than visible light
That's just light fragmentation or problems with the sensor. My broken iPhone camera does that to an extreme degree.
ah
4:54 "If you're taking apart your BB-8 toy, you have to be real careful"
Goes immediately into a hammer fist
1:25 that guy's reaction is so cute. I'm really happy for him.. A true fan of Star Wars..
anyone else seen xRobots BB-8 droid. done differently but still cool.
+James Bruton (XRobots) lol hi james
+brandonhughes7
Yes, this was my first thought when watching this video "Why didn't they mention the BB-8 build by XRobots?"
+brandonhughes7 I love Bruton's channel!
The design pattern on the ball really adds to the effect
I took my bb8 to school and everyone loved him lol 😂
thank you so much for building the BB-8
You should've let Asian Wolverine talk more.
idk if its just me, but the construction of BB-8 seemed obvious but extremely cool!
At 49 yo I`ve just realised I`m a nerd,better late than never.
+Phil G 54 and more proud to be a nerd than ever before!
+Phil G Enjoy.
+Dillon Flannery
Lives in a different time zone?
:D
Brilliant idea for a robot people won't be afraid of!
Thumbs up if the wall-3/r2d2 builder should build a real beemo
i love u
Congrats for 1.5 million subs!
But how does the hair of the man with the gray shirt works?!
+GilDev2 I'm dunno but i'm sure his claws would be made of adamantium and he has a super healing ability.
+GilDev2 you have to use Einsteins relativity equations for that.
SO cool to see! Thank you for sharing!
That guy has great mad scientist hair.
This is tech, this is learn, this is good ! Great explanation, great video !
didnt know wolverine was into star wars
interesting and great episode. let the experts talk and just dumb it down if it gets to technical.
AND HIS NAME IS MIKE SENNA (doo doodoo doo! doo doodoo doo!)
Yay, someone else thought of this lol
but not me.

"We're going to exercise some caution as well."
*Guy hits it with a fist*
That was actually emotional, having to watch you cut through it.
The presenter needs to learn to let people talk...
i have this toy but the special edition in which the textures are super op and the force band too it is an amazing toy I play with it every other day
Asian Wolverin robot builder!
Brilliant video guys
70% of comments: OMG his hair!
Other 30%: SHUT UP NORM
This is exactly what I was searching for, thanks!
'we take our WALL-E's out'
BB-8 is such a cool design. Always loved R2-D2, but the design would be so impractical anywhere but a polished floor.
This is amazing! thank you for making the video!
Interesting video enjoyed it
Yeah I have the limited edition sphero that has clear lines that lets you see the insides of the sphero. It's pretty Damn cool, it's crazy the amount of technology inside these things.
Man these designs are amazing! 👏
such a awesome invention
Wow, you can really see in Mike's eyes how much he loves robotics.
This is really interesting...ever since I saw the movie I've been wondering about BB-8 and how he would work.
Mike is a friend of mine :) way to go Mike.
Wow it was actually a lot simpler than I expected it to be! The one thing that kept making it seem so complicated was how the head moved.
Me too, I thought they were magnets inside him or something
Well there are, but I thought they were using the magnet s to move the head about on a separate sort of swivel. But all it has to do is turn inside to turn the head. However, Im starting to think the head piece may have had its own internal set of servos, and it simply attached to the ball magnetically.
+Four Side Gaming yeah that is what I meant
Ah
+Four Side Gaming ah
I'm here for the interviewee's awesome hairstyle! 🙃
It's a very ingenious design.
Thank you so much for not having Will in this video :)
those little guys are awesome! my local hobbytown has them for $149 and I want one!
heres a suggestion....
instead of having the head sit on the body and letting it slide around, why not have the head somewhat like a ball bearing.
at the bottom of the head u can see at the bottom of the head its just an indent and a ring going around it. on that ring is where the ball bearings would go so the head can roll around much easier and because the assembly on the inside is light, its being held back by the friction (as u can see here 7:30) between the head and the body (because the magnets are holding it together). putting ball bearings around the surface of the head that makes contact on body would eliminate that and movement would be alot smoother. also the slight lag you see when the head moves (8:00) would also be eliminated.
but this is just a suggestion. great device tho!
Great video, .. but I'm not sure I am happy I pulled back the screen and saw the wizard.
Great analysis!
Hey, can we get another check-in with Mike Senna? His BB-8 was awesome, and I bet the club has been working like crazy since the movie came out.
He said “GREAT SCOTT” reminded me of Dr.Emet Brown
norman you are the Real mvp 👏👏
So cool to watch and learn how BB8 works. I wish I had been more intrigued as a child to have worked in this field.
thanks guys i really wanted to know how it work! :D
simple mechanic , awsome robot
It must have been that he was feigning surprise for the interview. I was at celebration in the same room ...when BB8 was first rolled out on stage. It had been released in the news a month before at least that BB8 was not CGI and was a practical "effect" robot. It was great to see in person but I think most people were aware it wasn't CGI by that point.
Might well be one of the coolest toy ever. Almost makes you wonder if Disney created BB-8 just for this.
'we take our wallies out & entertain people'
This guy has the balls (pun intended) I often dream of whipping mine out & entertaining a crowd. :)
"you gotta be careful when disasembling your BB8..." *punches BB8 to see if opens* LOL
Love the video, thanks!
i didnt have time to see the bb-8
because i have been working
but when i saw it here i held my emotions to scream "how cooooooolllll"
Great stuff!
Norm's alright, he's a nice guy! Mike's eye peeps started to twinkle when he first laid eyes on BB8!
I have the Sphero BB-8 Droid and I've always wanted to know how it works!
