Completely agree that the Yachats/Waldport area is one of the best on the Oregon coast. A lot of great trails and viewpoints especially around Yachats.

Should have mentioned this earlier. I have stopped at The Devil's Churn south of Yachats, Oregon twice. One of my favorite places along the Oregon coast. I enjoy the videos, keep them up and stay safe Russ.
Thank you for scaling the long hill to view the lighthouse. I just love lighthouses for some reason. Maybe bc it's a 'safe' symbol.
Love waldport my wife and I spent over a year and a half at the koa in our 30 ft beaver monterey while house searching. Waldport is a fantastic lil town.
We flew up to Portland and rented a car in 2012 and made this drive to Florence...Its just Beautiful country side. Great video!

The beauty of that coastal view is just amazing. A lighthouse will use a Fresnel lens, thin, light weight and more efficient. We learned about them in physics class. You're right, your horn is kind of Meep Meep. You are a road runner. 😁

Great video ! I exited Sacramento, Ca 4 years ago. Florence is Oregon's Coastal Playground!. Hectea Beach is a 10 minute drive. The amazing beaches, enchanted forests, rivers/lakes. They estimate over 10 million yearly tourists in Florence. Amazing how a small town like Florence accommodates millions of people every year. I found peace of mind here and will live the final chapter of life happy and content. You must adapt, welcome the high winds, sand, rain...lots of rain. Months of rain. I find peace in the rain so I'm good here. We love Florence

Heceta is one of the iconic lighthouses on the Pacific. Great seafood restaurant in Yachats and Seal Rock called the Luna Sea. Thanks for doing this trip Russ.

I had occasion to drive through that area once back when I was an OTR driver. Generally speaking when you're in that line of work that's not a good road to take, but siskiyou summit was snowed in so it was either wait for who knows how long or take the coastal route. So I took the coastal route around siskiyou summit and I believe I cut back over to I-5 around Reedsport. I was actually headed from Southern California up to Wenatchee Washington.
I really enjoyed driving through that section of US 101. I would recommend it to anybody, although don't go through there if you're in a hurry.

Waldport = mild weather no days in 90s no snow or freezing days over 40 species of birds hear the Osprey daily --

Sister was born in Coos Bay, but we lived in Reedsport.
Elks lodge has a huge rv park on the right side of the road in Florence! Love that place, many times we visited! We’ve been all the way north on 101 all the way into Washington! Have you traveled on Hiway 1? Been down that way too! But it’s been many years since we did that. Been to sea caves too! Would like to purchase property in Gold Beach. Been to Heceta lighthouse, Honeyman state park, rode sand buggy’s on the dunes! We’ve done it all, Russ!

I'm glad the weather is cooperating with you. My Grand niece and some of her high school friends went up to that area for a few days during the summer a few years back and it just happened to be while that area was getting hit with a really nasty heatwave.
Very, very rare and only lasts couple days.
The heceta head lighthouse was the first lighthouse we visited in our toyota rv when the kids were toddlers. They're grown now and have no interest in trips like that anymore. They have bigger plans - can't blame them. This sure takes me back though. If you're traveling with your little ones, don't count on photos alone. Take a mental picture and put it in your pocket. They do get snow in the winter about 1".
Yes ! I've lived in Florence for 4 years now. Last year 2023 we had 3" It only lasts a day or so but it was amazing to see snow on the beach and sand dunes ! 2022 same.
Do they still pump your gas at gas stations? Love that I don’t have to get out!
New law passed 2024 It is no longer mandatory. Most fuel stations have 2 lanes of self serve and 2 attendant pumps for you now.
Closer you get to Portland busier it gets.
