My favorite bristol race ever. I was 11 years old when I watched this and I loved seeing Dale Jr and Rusty Wallace together with their blue and red beer cars.
I forgot Jeff Burton rode in the 30 car. I rooted for him as a kid as I loved the number 99 and the exide paint scheme. Jeff was one of the better drivers of the late 90s. Wish he could have won a Championship. Ward was a good ol boy too. Cant believe this was 15 years ago already fucksakes.....
TNT was awesome back in the day. Really, it was went from "Every race after Sears Point/summer Daytona while teaming up with NBC" to "A couple of summer races between Dover/Pocono" that they went downhill. I mean, they went from the Bristol/Richmond/Charlotte fall night races to freaking Kentucky!
Thanks for the upload! Also been looking for this race for a while. Junior's car was ridiculously dominant in clean air. He had Jeff Gordon, the 9th place car, a lap down by lap 300. That was unreal! Simply dominant race by Junior. BTW: Nascar's penalty on JG with 100 to go was complete BS, but in traditional Nascar fashion they refused to acknowledge they made a mistake. That took away Jeff's chance at a top-5.
Observations on this race; An all-Burton row! Kahne qualifying #2 in his first Bristol night race period. Welcome back, Rudd and Fatback. Sadler/Jarrett ran well- RYR was still really good when they had the Tauruses. In his old USA Today column, Sadler said finishing 5th here felt like a win considering Bristol's wild-card race tendencies. Jimmie's ice-cold August where if he just finished in the 20s once, he may have won his first title a few years early. And that Carl Edwards finishing 10th in his debut- surely, he can't do any better than that? : )) And of course, IT'S BRISTOL BABY! After 3 years of Sharpie 500 wins by guys who weren't exactly crowd favorites (Smoke, Gordon, and Busch), a roushing victory to add to his Daytona/Talladega big-race resume. By this time, he was nearly fully healed after the Sonoma July accident. Never was Junior Nation more fervent than '04. This year was the peak for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in every way- on the track, on the pits, in the standings.
It was Kahne's first Bristol night race (He didn't run any NASCAR Cup races prior to 2004). We've seen prominent rookies not qualify too well in their August Bristol night race debut (Kurt Busch started 26th in 2001, Jimmie Johnson started 32nd the following year)
The first driver to ever Sweep a Weekend at Bristol ever! The Busch Series and Nextel Cup races now that's a stat and a record!! Jr swept the the Weekend at Daytona that year to.
I was there and knew how special the moment was. Gordon got screwed by NASCAR but what a moment. No where in the world is like Bristol full of screaming fans when an Earnhardt wins.
Jr doesn't get those burn injuries that year no doubt in my mind he wins that championship he was really strong that year. Wish they never got rid of those cars the car of tomorrow is all about technology advancement and not so much talent.
(dmetl) #485 - 316th race I've ever watched ... 116 on the net ... 81st race I've ever enjoyed with a dip of tobacco ... 31st race I've ever watched in the month of November ... 45th race I've ever watched in my truck ... 21st race I've ever watched of the 2004 races ... 20 Bristol's I've watched
And Bristol is still great even after the 2 revamps (went from 1998-2015) in fact some the best moments I ever witnessed were actually the newer Bristol. However, nothing can top old Bristol and the gen 4 car style of racing. Only good groove was the bottom and basically forced good tight bumper to bumper racing and ofcourse wrecks. You still have your fair share of caution filled races but Bristol isn’t quite the same.
4:05 Little did Jimmie know he wasnt far from Lighting the world on fire with a Feat (I'm calling itnow) that will NEVER be topped! Those 2004 NASCAR cars are GOLDEN.
Really 04-07 gen 4 cars are my fave
That's something you don't see much of anymore. The flashes from cameras in the crowd! :D
Nobody really uses cameras like that anymore. It’s all cameras on phones
Tanner Stokes Point and shoot cameras are a thing of the past now sadly.

can thank espn for that. they wanted back in but didn't want anything between sears point and indy.

You definitely got your moneys worth that weekend with Dale Jr sweeping the weekend.

Ahhhh the good ole days of Bristol and NASCAR.
It's funny to see NASCAR just hitting its Peak, they really went hard on giving you the Experience! The Childhood Voice in my head is Bill Webber 😂😂😂
It's fine! Matter of fact i don't mind watching the older commercials it brings back nostalgia.

A 6 second lead w/ 8 cars on the lead lap @ Bristol? Wow! Can’t imagine that’ll ever happen again
I will never forget that horsepower is king on short tracks e.g.Dale Jarrett 2001 Martinsville. Yates walked the ponies into that joint!
2:56:01 for the famous words
I'll never forget Mark Martin's pit road gaffe.. hilarious but felt so bad at the same time
I myself will never forget BP's TV call of Mark Martin's pit road gaffe either.
Wasn't there a race Mark was leading and slowed on the last lap because he thought the race was over?
@@AndyFromBeaverton I think it was a 1994 Busch Series race, and David Green won it.
So why did Mark go down pit road?

Awesome race to watch ty
Kurt Busch was basically driving the Sharpie car he would use the following year as the primary car (minus the Crown Royal sponsorship)
Can you please do some races with all the comercials in they bring back memories I was 7 during this race
And Dale Jarrett somehow rallied from that spin to finish 10th
"Hard to get tickets." Not anymore!
Dale Jr’s Best Victory outside of the Plate Tracks!
i would disagree with that. Dover 2001 after 911 was pretty awesome
35:52 lets go🏁
Dale Jr was 7 seconds from lapping the field before the 6th Caution.
Man Ricky Craven really took a nose dive that season, also I miss the tide car!
