    I have been binge watching 90s Nascar races. Ken Schrader always seemed to be very competitive every week. Just had a lot of tough luck. Should of had way more than 4 wins in the cup series.

      One of the things I miss most about the 90's is the commentary was at it's peak. Ned, BP, Ken Squier, & Eli Gold were amazing. But yeah Ned in particular was an absolute gentleman

      @@NamathCB- D.J. was my favorite driver. He never expected or used his father’s name to gain a ride. He was his own man and paid his dues to get into a top tier ride. When he was driving that beautiful “blue bullet” for RYR, he was a threat pretty much every week. If not for a horrible black flag penalty at Sears Point in 1997, I firmly believe he wins the championship that year as well.

      I started watching Nascar when i was 14 in 96. I always like Jeff Gordon back then cuz he was good and i love his rainbow car but I know the Intimadator was a great one. Just watched the documentary Blink of an Eye over the weekend and was shocked how he died. Didnt watched Nascars for a long long long time and now Im back and became a collector of their diecast cars which are very cool.

    Thank God for UA-cam. Now I can go back and watch all the Daytona 500s from the beginning. I came to Canada in Feb 96 from the Phils and I became a fan of Nascar and enjoyed watching it on the weekends. Just watched the documentary Blink of an Eye with the Story of Mike Waltrip and did know how Dale died back in 2001. I just started collecting all the cool Nascar 1:24 Die Cast and Im trying to get all my fav drivers. It is truelly the Great American race and Im happy I got to see them in Canada. Hope someday, I'll make my way down there to Daytona and watch the race in person with my son who loves racing and racecars. Someday...

Now we have a bunch of robots running around in basically the same car who are more concerned with thanking their sponsors than connecting with the fans. I never realized that Bud Moore's #15 car helped Dale (Jarrett) pass Earnhardt both times (unless I missed a pass afterwards - had to skim the race abit). '93 Geoff Bodine was driving it. Ironically it was also one of Earnhardt's old rides.

    Man watching this back and can't help but think about just how unfair all that fan hate Sterling got for the crash really was.... Dale didn't have a teammate at this time but him and Marlin reminded me of Jr & Stewart! You can tell he felt comfortable racing with Sterling, maybe even too comfortable in the end :( I love Dale as much as anyone but the blocking is what did it and it's just messed up that Sterling Marlin literally got death threats over it SMH He did an interview and talks about it on Dale Jr's podcast... He's actually in tough shape with Parkinson's for those who don't know ...

      @NASTY CANASTA Unfortunately, multiple primary sponsors are a necessity these days. The budget for a full season is at least $20 million for a top team (Gibbs, Penske, Stewart-Haas), and no one is willing to renew for that price. Therefore, Brad Keselowski carries sponsorship not only from Miller, but also Alliance, Auto Trader, Discount Tire, and Wurth. It's been many years since NASCAR's champion had one primary sponsor, but that could change if costs came down.

    Best Daytona 500 ever, imo. CBS couldn’t have covered this race any better. Couldn’t ask for a nicer day (weather wise) to have a race. Couldn’t ask for a more competitive race.
    It just turned out perfect in 1996. Well, except for maybe my driver Dale Earnhardt coming up short once again. Nah……I have no hard feelings. Dale Jarrett/Robert Yates’ #88 Ford just proved to be too strong at the end.

    Not one for conspiracy theories, but I don't believe that Marlin had the same car that dominated at Daytona and Talladega the year before. He was near the front but the car didn't have the ability to pass and pull away. As this also the first year that the winning car would be on display for the entire season. Fast forward to the next two Superspeedway races, and Marlin was unstoppable. That's where we saw the real Morgan McClure supercar in action.

    • @vinewood8295
      @vinewood8295 2 роки тому

      It was the same car, as someone mentioned, NASCAR made some changes under the hood and the #4 team missed the motor setup. They figured it out in time for the next plate race though which he won (96 Winston 500) & then the next one after that as well (96 Pepsi 400). At the Diehard, the car was fast once again but now it seemed like Earnhardt had finally caught back up and was able to run with and pass the #4 that is until the wreck. That was the most traumatic end to a dominant racecar I ever saw, I honestly almost cried when they showed Marlins destroyed car on the back of the flatbed, they never had a car that good again nor did Morgan McLure ever win another points paying plate race. If I was Sterling, I would have had the car trucked to my house & rebuilt and retired added to my car collection.
