Thanks for your patience! #MovieMath was delayed 1 day for #MothersDay!
Happy belated Mother’s Day
I hope you had a lovely day. ☺
WAT A WONDERFUL DAY 🎉
Sometimes CGI effects companies rip off movie studios. There was 1 guy on UA-cam who used AI to redo the Irishmen de-aging and it looked far better the movie and cost him no more than 2 grand, so for effects companies charging millions for inferior work is shocking. I think Lucas Film ended up hiring him but it was too late for Indiana Jones.
No problem, I hope you had a great Mother’s Day weekend.
Moviegoers wallets together strong.
😂🤭
Looool😂
We’re calling $566 million “no one watched it”
…..really?
Yeah, based on that logic she would have to say the same about Dune 2 and Godzilla...
Its because the theaters take at least 30% out of the movie revenue domestically international theaters can take Up to 45% of the money (China takes more i think), then you take production costs plus marketing, the movie money wise was a flop.
@@loontonan3809 Yes. The movie definitely suffered losses. But that doesn't mean that "No one watched it". The box office collection was actually pretty good, especially considering the fact that Barbenheimer came out the very next week. But it suffered losses because of budget going over 300 million because of filming during Covid and other production problems
She sometimes doesn't make sense at all
Saw Apes at the weekend with my son. We both thought it was excellent. No issues with the lead human female character.
Glad to hear a father raising his son with a spine
💯

The most bizarre Cinemascore I’ve seen in years. There’s nothing this movie does that wouldn’t please a general audience. Pretty safe and satisfying all the way through. Clearly there is something in the film general audiences didn’t appreciate.
I'll get flak from apes fans, but I believe that general audiences found 'War' to be rather lackluster and boring, as evidenced by the significant drop in box office from 'Dawn' to 'War'. So there wasn't really any hype to see another one.
Boxoffice Mojo's daily income had this movie losing money every day. I believe it was heavily front loaded and no legs in the U.S.
@@orlock20almost every movie released this year had receding numbers from Friday to Sunday, what you didn’t mention was that Kingdom had better holds compared to their numbers even Dune!
@@DountHead2533but War had the best cinema and audience scores out of all the movies tho
This film had the exact same plot as the last film. I’m not shocked.
That is weird that Apes released for Mothers Day and Inside Out is out for Fathers Day. Did Hollywood forget how to "Hollywood"?
They haven't known how to Hollywood for years
Honestly, this release strategy makes sense to me because for Mother's Day, my husband will often take the kids out for the day so that I can relax at home by myself. It's freakin' great. And I return the favor by taking the kids out on Father's Day.
Apes was originally going to be released for Memorial Day but it got moved up once "Deadpool & Wolverine" went to July 26. The strikes really mucked things up.
@@russellhunter363 good tbh.
@@yippykiyay89what does tht even mean 😂 logically/factually looking at the movie landscape and its success. HUH
Well Mission Impossible didn't do great because they placed it a week before Barbenheimer
Yeah, but it wasn’t even doing that great during its 9 day head start. It was tracking behind MI:Fallout ever single day of its release.
@@tronam because the people that only see 1 movie a month picked either Barbie or Oppenheimer or both
@@joshbecker389 It’s also because Mission Impossible isn’t as popular a franchise as the superfans think it is. Cruise jumping off cliffs isn’t novel anymore and I think future films will continue trending downward.
@tronam eh I also disagree, they make a good amount, fallout did like 700
Thank you, she's not the only one running with this this narrative tho. I guess every want to come at Tom cruise lol.
😳 For people to go to the movies we’ll need cheaper movie tickets, cleaner movie theatres, cheaper food at the concession stands and cheaper gas get us to the theatre. Or else it makes more sense to watch movies on our large screens at home.
Nearly no one who goes to see Jerry Seinfeld standup will care about how good or not Unfrosted has done, nor how the 'campaign' for the film has go.
IMHO Kingdom underwhelmed a bit not because of its approach or characters, but simply because the plot never gave us a big payoff AND because this film clearly is working hard mostly to be the first of a pair or series, rather than working also to be a solid stand-alone movie.
I can't believe Japan is making us wait sooooooo long to get Godzilla Minus One on streaming. I didn't try hard enough to watch it at the movies, and it's a decision I've been regretting every week 😂😭😭
It was the best movie experience I’ve had in the theater all year!
I'm glad I caught it but I've been telling everyone about it and can't direct them to a place to see it 😞
the reality is that BO is lower now about 30% so expectations needs to be adjusted.
That's weird because prices are about 30% higher too.
How many times can we lower expectations, though?
@@lacolem1 I think he's talking about the suits, not us 😉
@@rinmathews9337That’s Hollywood (and theaters) for you, despite declining demand they’ll raise the prices to save face and reduce the losses, the only way I’ll see these prices drop is a theatrical crash which would be horribly devastating to all entertainment.
People seem just as smelly as ever
There’s a huge female audience for Zelda. Probably one of the biggest female audience for a video game besides Pokémon and animal crossing

Grace gotta eat her nuggies! 😅😅😅❤❤❤
KOTPOTA is a perfect example of how to make a great movie look gorgeous on a lower budget. Hopefully studios learn from this
KOTPOTA. OMG. 😅😅😅
36% of a movie that made almost 60 million on its release date it's still a lot of women purchasing tickets... I get that she means it was majority of men but still I don't like when people say women don't watch this or that as if we were a monolith. The amount of times I've been told "women aren't interested in that" for movies I was excited about😅
Grace perpetuates dangerous narratives... She never blames male leads for movie flops, but for every flop with a female lead, she points to that
@@cruzanassassin😂😂😂 cuz she didn’t pin the fall guy doing poorly on Ryan gosling???????
@@jesorinsekwa4054 she did... But she didn't paint it as a MALE issue... She painted it as a Gosling issue... That's a huge difference
I don't... really agree with your takeaways on this one. Also, you may want to see the current conversation around the Met Gala.
Agreed.
I wouldn't worry about Legend of Zelda. It has a HUGE female fanbase.
the gays will also be arriving
This is the week of the 5th episode of X-Men 97 and it still isn't here.
I saw Kingdom of the Apes and really enjoyed it. There weren’t many people at my showing, but there was applause at the end which doesn’t happen often.
Now I feel bad I didn’t do the survey after the movie. They asked but I was on a time crunch. But I loved the movie. People enjoyed the movie there was an applause afterwards. Not enough people doing the surveys.
Maybe if they gave you a mini candy?
I gotta say these analytics are spot on. I watched this week with my girlfriend and she was bored and said she didn't really enjoy it. And when we were leaving we heard multiple people complaining about how it was too long. I however loved the film and didn't mind the length one bit.
I think that was Grace's opinion in her review: that the length was worth it.
What did you watch?
No there not, sorry but Grace and your girlfriend don't speak for all women, I enjoyed the movie and the movies prior with Cesaer, some people like it, some didn't, not based on gender
Rings of Power was universally hated by all.
I thought it was okay. Like a really pretty LotR-themed screensaver with a great soundtrack.
No it wasn't. A vocal minority hated it.
I'm happy for Fallout, I admit I watched the first episode and it took me a week to watch the second one but once I did, I binged the whole thing in one night. Amazing show, excited for season 2!
I saw Apes yesterday and REALLY enjoyed it. It was nice to see them move on from Caesar and have a new generation. Was shot beautifully and I felt set up for an interesting sequel.
Yes, like the arrival of George Taylor starring Tom Cruise.
Grace is the Queen of spin.
Streamers count minutes because once it’s averaged per episode the viewership is quite low and inline with network and cable tv.
I only watched KOTPOTA because of Grace's recommendation -- and I loved it. In fact, most reviewers seemed to like it, so I'm shocked by the low rating. I don't think the female lead was unappealing but the commercials DID seem to promise more fighting. Personally, I prefer world and character building, so it worked for me.
Vídeo game adaptations keep breaking records. Hollywood better wake up and starts treating these IPs with the respect they deserve because there’s clearly an audience for them.
I think you're the only person who believes Jerry Seinfeld has one of the worst PR tours in all of history.
I mean... He just did a commencement speech and a quarter of them walked out on him. Take that for what its worth. Me personally I'm no fan of his but I'm not the demographic that he's appealing to either so 🤷🏽♂
@@ICU1337 It was really more like 20 out of 1000 there are losers in every crowd.
@@Ruddline I mean... I saw the video... I can count... I'm not going to demean you or anything but, it was far more than 20...
He hasn’t done anything since the 90s
The female lead had a good male gaze to me Grace. She looks good! She looks feminine and she was really cool in the movie too.
100% agree.
Havent seen the movie yet but she looked appealing to me from the trailers 🤷🏽♂ And why do I need an obedient woman? What am I some caveman or something Grace 🤨
She was pretty good in The Witcher
@@ICU1337 Any modern feminist worth her salt believes that.
@@Trish-lamour oh. That’s who she is. I knew she looked familiar
I'm glad they're experimenting with releasing, and accepting that different audiences like it, well, differently. I love that Fallout was released as a binge, but also look forward to it being released weekly.
3 episodes binge and then weekly to start the conversation
The Apes franchise is a movie series that always alluded me. At some point i should just sit down and watch them
Baby Reindeer continues to impress. After record breaking 2nd and 3rd weeks, it had one of the best 4th week drops ever.
Just one of those shows that executives and producers dream of. It's not ever going to be a Squid Game or anything, but going from a flop to its debut to one of the biggest of the year is an amazing journey.
I am still so curious about this show 🤔
Man, Grace has a thing for Zendaya.
America doesn’t though 😂
@@MaxxRemKing1I'm out of the loop on this one. How is she not loved here?
@@MaxxRemKing1you’re always in the comments talking shit about Her. What are you really mad about ? 😬 Oh I know.
@@MD19853 I really can't stand some actors. It's like they contaminate Hollywood with their mediocre or subpar talent. I hated Phoebe Waller Bridges... more than Zendaya... and I hated that thing that played the flash more than Phobe Waller Bridges. I like the Dune movies but Zendaya almost ruined them for me. IF only it was someone else who played her part... oh well.. her career is not long... just ask PWB and Ezra Miller. Some people don't belong in front of the camera.
I don't care about the conversation, I prefer binge watching.
Can’t wait for the Bridgerton viewership numbers. I’m so hype for this show to do well
The thing I'm wondering is how splitting the show in two parts will affect its numbers.
Stranger Things grew, but I don't know if it's because or in spite of being in parts.
Every other show has done worse overall as a result.
Maybe Bridgerton will be like ST and be an exception. The marketing, how the show has already started creeping back up in Top 10 lists the world over, all point to a big launch.
As I predicted, the idea of you is one of the most viewed movies ever on prime video. It's a huge success and it won't be long before they make a sequel
Kingdom was Fantastic! I think mothers day is the issue. Story needs to continue. We don't need another Ceaser movie...
Chris Pratt Says He Will 100% Be Returning as Star-Lord and Appearing in James Gunn's DCU (Exclusive)🎉🎉🎉🎉
How is a movie making 160 million dollars with no Name actors and having solid audience scores after a 7 year hiatus a misfire? There is no logic behind anything she said
I said it before and I'll say it again: the budget and the breakeven point should be added in the box office table and the discussion so we can see what are the box office goals for those movies.
I don't think Kingdom was as good as any of the movies in the Caesar trilogy, overall Apes is a strong franchise. Can't wait to see where this story goes.
Zendaya and Law Roach already tried with a business and it flopped Grace. Let's see if they learned from their mistakes because it's obviously where they are headed.
Paramount has to be like, Tom 😂...the underwhelming box office isn't worth you risking your own stunts 😂
I think the Covid and strike is played out already if production was halted then the budget shouldn’t have ballooned
Grace, I think you should know that THR reported that the reason for Kingdom's CinemaScore being so low was that there was a vocal minority who mass polled against the movie giving it a C or D rating, whereas over 85% of the moviegoers gave it an A or B. If it wasn't for the 15% or so people rating it so low it would've gotten at least an A-.
It's probably the same story for most movies though
@@purekinema they specifically mentioned that it was very unusual that it happened to Kingdom.
THAT APES SECTION WAS SO LONG AND TOOK 12 MINS!
I a woman (adult human female) and I love the apes movie. Why your default is " men h8 women". A lot of people found the movie slow, that's the real issue
I love the apes movies, too..
.and I'm a gal, But as a Gen X er...I just roll right back to the originals. I didn't find anything interesting about any of the remakes or updates.
I watched it with my wife. I loved it and my wife felt the movie was too long.
We NEED more premium screens! There's only one Imax in my entire state, and no Dolby. It's absurd!
What state has only 1 Imax 😆
Grace, how can theater companies invest in more premium screens if they can't even afford basic maintenance/cleanliness?
Such as HVAC maintenance
Binged Dead Boy Detectives last Tuesday night. Had no idea it was in the same universe as The Sandman. Really enjoyed it and crossing everything for a Season 2 renewal 🤞
Jerry doesn't care one bit about reinventing himself for modern audiences. And he doesn't need to.
Enjoyed it last night on IMAX, was really impressed with the performances... I want to see Noa continue his journey. I really think they should continue and make the rest of this trilogy, the reveals at the end are pretty intriguing.
The Fall Guy: I went with a group of ladies on a Tuesday evening and the theater was almost sold out. I ended up liking it, if not too long. Cheers!
I'm a woman who loves the Apes trilogy haha I guess I'm the minority? 😂 Dawn (the second movie) by Matt Reeves is one of my fave movies of all time!
Planet of the Apes should have opened summer. Fall Guy should have held off til Memorial Day weekend
Idk man. I really don’t see why anyone would have an issue with the lead in Apes. I think a good chunk of the female demographic simply didn’t go watch the movie.
My issue isn’t the female lead, it’s that there’s such a focus on a human character when the movie was so strong without it. It felt like she was born in 2010 and has been on her own for a month or so. The noa story was fantastic
It was a good movie, I didn’t like it more than I did the previous trilogy but it certainly didn’t take away from those movies. I’d recommend it and would see it again so I hope it continues to do well.
Dead Reckoning is the only MI movie I went to see in the theater! Cruise pulled me on after Top Gun Maverick.
How can you say no one saw dead reckoning. You’re acting like it made 200 million and not nearly 600 million. Yeah it made less than the rest but stop being so dramatic.
Challengers is a terrible theater experience... Better as a rental at home... But either way it's not very satisfying I in really fucking hated it... Who wants to watch a movie about a bunch of rich people playing tennis? I mean I guess one of the characters isn't rich but he could have been. It's just stupid if you like that kind of movie. You're really bigger into fantasy than somebody who would likes science fiction LOL
5:25 Yeah, it's almost like that's not at all what's important in making a good movie.
Dawn was so good. If this movie is better or different than War it's probably worth it. War was boring and not a good finale.
Seinfeld was right and most people agree with him
I thought she was (Nova, Mea) awesome also. I think this film was a great set up for a trilogy, so much to build off.
X-Men suit Grace > business hat Grace
What does Dave Filoni have to do with The Phantom Menace???
Idk how u can say no one saw dead reckoning…it made over half a billion….its also barbenheimers fault it didn’t make more. Grace even said mission usually makes its money with long legs
Tarot will end up earning more $$$ than Fall GuY, Challengers and Abigail.......
Went and seen it. I would rank them Dawn, Kingdom, Rise and War. I really enjoyed the movie and looking forward to seeing where it goes especially establishing the complicated future of humans.
Just saw it yesterday, going to go see it again!
Ryan gosling cannot sell a movie by himself
And he doesn't have to because he didn't build his name with cheap shit blockbuster movies like reynolds.
Law Roach can whine all he wants. He's not the one holding all the $$$
9:58 Well, it's only reasonable that people would be more interested in watching the direct predecessors. I considered starting with some of the 70's movies last weekend, but decided I had to give priority to the Ceasar trilogy, which I had not seen before.
Am I the only one bothered that promixus Caesar his background wasn’t explained
The issue isn't the female lead. That's actually a bit of lazy analysis. It's that folks thought it would be more of a humans vs. Apes story with one human in particular potentially posing as a threat to Ape kind. Instead, it was a film about Ape society as a whole and which path it should take. A tribunal culture or one of a kingdom with specific classes of workers, soldiers, leaders, etc. I liked it, but a lot of folks didn't feel like that was what was going to be sold them.
Honestly the biggest issue with Kingdom is that the Main villain shows up really late, way later than expected given how much people were hiping it up. It was deserved hype, but I kept waiting for him throught out the movie.
What a wonderful day!!
It always annoys me and break ma heart when ever mission impossible dead reckoning called bomb or failure when the fact was perfect movie failed by it's own fans. How could ppl go see barbie then ignored MI7 but i had no problem with success of barbie i enjoyed it alot but even i didn't expect Oppenheimer to be this kind of big boxoffice movie. Ohhh tom cruise ma man he deserved a lot for this movie so sad😢😢😢.
Timing is everything. If he'd delayed it to August, people who went to see Barbie/Oppenheimer could see the M.I. trailer and probably want to go.
Timing. Simple as that. By the time the Barbenheimer trend started it was pretty much over
Why should anyone be compelled to watch MI7? People see what they want to see. Tom cruise is a big name but not one with the most hooligan fans like other nerd franchise
Well for being the fourth sequel of the second reboot.. this apes movie was pretty good
Haha 😂
He also dresses Celine Dion as well as Zendaya
Kingdom were a great film and align with the previous trilogy.
Dead Reckoning sucked. I didn't watch Dial of Destiny but knowing Crystal Skull, it probably sucked too.
I enjoyed Kingdom and am interested in what direction the franchise will go.
the Fall Guy is an excellent movie, shame it doesn't do better in the box office.
Without the " Male Gaze", you won't get my "Male 💵 ". Just gives me another excuse to see Godzilla/Kong again😊
I’ll take shows as a binge all at once over weekly thank you - spreading them out over a week is about right, plus it’s my choice.
Mission Impossible close to $600 Million, doesn't look like a movie that no one saw?
I was thinking same. If you look at the other movies - it’s not like they are at a billion and it m7 just sunk compared to the numbers. Disappointed because budget became to high when looking at a lower gross - yes. Flop? There are hundreds of movies that make less. Guess it’s subjective
Season finale of X-men 97 not mentioned 😔
It’s the unfortunate truth about that show
Cause no1 important is watching 😂😂😂
This week, you mean last week, movie math 😂. Thank you, Grace. Love you ❤.
I saw, Dead Reckoning on my Birthday and, I intended to see part 2 this year Until Mission Impossible, Mystery Title, MOVED!
Just a note that Law Roach also still works for Celine Dion. Last he dressed her at Grammy's few weeks ago
Pixar has gone for the Father's Day slot for their tentpole for ever. I think the idea was it is a movie for Dad's to take their kids to
Actually in 2019. They opened Toy Story 4 on June 21 not on June 14 like they are doing this year with Inside Out 2.
Respectfully Grace, Zelda does not skew female. It’s a beloved franchise by everyone. I know so many female Zelda fans
Zelda's too big to lose. Unlike Apes.
I think KotPotA is an outlier. It seemed like a real crowd pleaser to me. Methodically paced to be sure but I think it will stick around for a few weeks. I also think 160 is still too much, they made Rise for around 90 million and I think the lower they can get these budgets the better.
I back Seinfeld 100%. As Mel Brooks said after Blazing Saddles, "It doesn't have to be good taste to be funny."
I back Mel Brooks 😂
The b score is puzzling , I saw it in a cinema which was full which I havnt seen in a long time and everyone I’ve spoken too loved it .
How is that girl not designed for the male gaze?
you're telling me she is supposed to be a feral human who has been living her whole life in the wilderness like an animal and she looks like a gorgeous model with perfect teeth and skin?
her beauty/hotness kept taking me out of the movie lol
Dude control yourself lmao
Did you watch the movie?
