I think the HHR was a lot more reliable. I have friends that have had the PT Cruiser and the HHR. The HHR basically had no issues and the PT Cruiser had quite a few problems.
Currently Driving a 2006 HHR with 180,000+ Miles, Been Driving It Since January 2015, Continues To Serve Me Well, For Work and Play. Plan to Keep It For As Long As It's Able To Go.
Good stuff!
I have an Uncle in Ohio that bought one the first year it was made. He bought the base model with a stick shift. He called it a "Half a Hot Rod". Still driving it today with over 190K mikes.
I just sold my 09 HHR panel gunmetal silver with almost 300k miles and still looked brand new and ran as good as it looked. I got 3k for it. One of the best cars I have ever owned.
Whenever gave you $3k is an idiot. The engine and transmission are all but shot at 300k miles. Within a year it’s gonna need both replaced
@@lesterparker1594 thanks for your expertise Lester
I have a 2010 5 speed manual I bought in 2010. Love it. So far it's been a great little car. The only thing that been a problem is the car is a giant blind spot.
bought mine for $900 in Sioux Falls
2 years ago with over 300,000
miles .
Lester it's still running great.
I'd buy another one with 300,000 miles
@@claytonlong391 I have friends with HHR that have 400 K miles on them. The biggest issues are keeping up with the timing belt changes and all of the sensors. I'm on my second HHR. I love mine. :-)
friend of mine has hhr with over 300k miles. he bought it new still runs great and looks great
Before I was injured and in a wheelchair I drove PT Cruisers but never got the chance to drive a HHR but I was a passenger in one and I like it and as always another awesome video Dave B👍
I have a 2007 HHR LS Panel 2.2L automatic with 141,000 miles on it, I love the little car. Wish Chevy still made them or something similar.
I kind of miss when car companies would have funky designs like this. Cars that might not sell a lot, but show that the company is trying new/different designs.
I have a HHR & Love it. If they still made I would be buying me a new one.
I have 4 of them in the family 3 are in the driveway now. 3 with over 200k miles on them one over 300k. The first one was the the wife who originally wanted a PT Cruiser but I was working for GM fuel cell division in Honeoye Falls NY at the time and I told her about the HHR and that is where the HHR saga began. I once drove 400 miles (in 2013) to NYC to potentially buy one but it was sold and on the way back ended up seeing and buying one only 5 miles from my house. Then this past March I drove the Cleveland and bought my latest and last HHR. It will be my last HHR because in June I bought a Chevy Bolt and will never go back to ICE. Thanks for putting a smile on my face when I saw this video.
Great example of longevity x4
I've actually seen a ton of these around locally as of late! One of my coworkers has one with 215k miles on it and it's still running well! Also, yes I absolutely enjoyed your review of this car... it's amazing to remember what the norm was a decade ago vs. now.
I still have a 2007 HHR. I haul all kinds of stuff with it! Replaced brakes twice, and tires 2-3 times. Battery was the original until 2017 when the map lights were left on when I got my sticker by the mechanic! AAA suggested where it was old, to maybe put in a new one, I bought one at Auto Zone and they're great, installed it free! My wonderful HHR will be 16 in Aug, got it 2006, and except for what I replaced, everything is original! It was a great car, and very disappointed I can't get another! 😕
i have a new found liking for these cars from this video, always thought they were hideous and they’re by no means good looking, but definitely are purpose built and i can appreciate that.
Love my 2009 HHR, just wish it had on demand 4wd.
Great video. My next car is going to be an HHR. Oh, I'm originally from northern NJ.
My mom had one as a rental car in 2010 and I loved it! I was only 4 years old at the time and would always love going in rides in it
I've got an hhr panel it is great for not only for a work vehicle but also for camping. I do kind of miss the center console though. It's butt ugly but it is dependable and it gets me around.
Hey, You want to sell yours? I am looking for another. Yes, I have a 2011 Panel with 363K miles!!
My dad used to own an HHR. It was a Daytona Blue 2006 LT model with the “running boards” and little spoiler. It wasn’t a bad little car until it started having some mechanical issues where it was getting too much to fix.
This was my college ride! I purchased a 2011 Chevy HHR 1LT back in Feb 2015 with 128,000 miles. Drove that thing nearly to death! I traded it with over 236,000 miles in April 2019. Maybe I just lucked up, but I never once had any significant issues with it (the engine was beginning to make some weird noises when I traded it, but that was no longer my problem once I drove off the lot!). It was a great ride with fairly decent gas mileage for the time. My particular model came equipped with the rear backup camera, oddly placed within the rear view mirror. I’ve had a 17 Cruze and now a 21 Rogue since the HRR, and while the Rogue has the fancy around view cameras, I actually kind of preferred the HHR’s mirror camera. It was super clear, and the positioning within the mirror made a ton of sense! Anyway I’m rambling, but for all of its quirks (all the plastic…allllll of it), it was an enjoyable ride, and a small part of me still misses it. Chevy definitely should have released a second generation in 2012!
Sounds like you got some great use out of your HHR👍
We had 3 of them for our field techs. They were not great mechanical. There was always one in the shop every week. But when they were in service tech's like them.
Thank you very much appreciate your efforts to make this video.
I was wondering and asked you before about these two HHR and here you go
Thanks alot. Great content and history. 😃😃😃👍👍👍❤
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos, been stuck at home ill and always look forward to watching them. 😊👍
Feel better
I always liked the HHR. I thought the Panel was an awesome looking vehicle. I have seen this one in your background of your videos and was interested in its story. Thank you for featuring it.
I have an '07 LT HHR and I love it. Bought it used at a dealership 7 years ago for peanuts. It had 113K on it. Had a second opinion on it from the repair shop I go to, they said it was in great shape, buy it. I did. It has given me fantastic service since. Great gas mileage. I take it in for oil changes and get anything fixed on it the guys notice while it is there. Just had it in last week, had new shocks and struts put on in front because it needed doing. The guys said for a 17 year old car it was in fantastic shape, hold onto it for as long as possible because they just don't make 'em like this any longer. Didn't need to be told twice. LOVE this car. Wish Chevy still made them and I don't miss all the fancy (crud) they put on cars now to run the price up. As long as the car gets me where I want to go, I'm happy.
I had a ‘07 PT Cruiser. It was very roomy for its size and fun to drive but the gas mileage was terrible for such a small car.
The engine in the SS models of this car and the Cobalt were very underrated. I vote that Dave hops in the back seat of the Camaro when filming. Anyone else?
haha, I may never be able to get out
Just saw my first half-panel today!
Very interesting. Thanks for the video Dave B!
I just passed #219000miles and still love it.
The HHR was the perfect entry level vehicle. I am on my 3rd HHR. First one I bought new was taken out by a distracted driver @ 186,000 miles. Second one (used) disappeared out of my driveway one night and was never recovered. The 3rd and currently driving is clocking 160,000 miles. Even today they are great cars, cheap to maintain, and for the DIY person fairly easy to work on.
GM messed up ending the run. But being based on the Cobalt and its dismal sales the HHR was collateral damage. "IF" something similar was to be brought back by GM in maybe a hybrid or EV version I would not even be considering a new hybrid Maverick.
But you can bet a HHR will be in the driveway on standby because you know, it's a FORD.
But hey, at least they circled the problem.
Guessing you answer in the video, which I haven’t watched yet…Heritage High Roof. That Camaro has my attention! Always enjoy your videos!
You got it!
Dang spoiled with all these videos! Love it!
Nice LLBean Jacket.......Also How many Of the HHR Did you sell yourself when they were selling . Thanks keep up the Great Content.
I had an HHR after college. My friends called it a shoe. I needed a cheaper car after college and it served its purpose.
Talking about the HHR reminds me of the Chevy SSR truck from the mid 2000s. Do you remember those Dave? Those seemed even rarer to see.
Have to say looks like it held up better then the PT Cruiser
I was expecting it to be for sale! My brother has one of those and likes it.
Did the dealership purchase that car new in 2011 and when was the decal put on? I remember when your dealership was Wigder. Just trying to figure out the timeline of all the events. And when was Boonton added in to the mix?
Yup, this has been used by the dealership since new. It was formally wrapped in a Wigder theme. It was re-wrapped when we became Schumacher in 2017. I think Boonton became Schumacher the following year.
Basically, when Lutz left Chrysler for GM he liked the PT Cruiser so much he had GM create one.
I love my 2011 HHR it has 30,000 miles
I bought a 2007 trailblazer that I still drive today. Only vehicle I have. No "input" for aux. My cd player recently stopped working so only radio. However, the 4.2 inline 6 has been bullet proof for 150,000+ with no repairs. Saving for a new 2023 Colorado. Haven't had a payment on a car for over 10 years and this thing keeps going.
Would buy from you, Dave, if I was closer. Being in Wisconsin isn't even close to you. Unless you could help me out. Let me know lol!
Wisconsin is pretty far but if you ever wanted to fly in, buy, and drive it home I'd pay for your flight 👍
@@DaveBsellsChevy tell you what, I'd take you up on that as long as my timing and money would work out. Are there additional fees that come with an out-of-state purchase like that?
I haven't been out east in quite a while nor taken a vacation. A road trip back should be fun! I did a few road trips out east several years ago but never made it towards Jersey or New York. Mainly Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Philly.
Feel free to keep me updated, if you remember, when the new Colorado is due to come out and we'll try to get something in the works!
Yay! finally a video on that HHR!
I have to ask what is the mileage on this one?
79,000
79730mi - 5:23 in the video
I get about 31 mpg and can drive from Medford, Oregon to Stockton, California on.
a 14 gallon tank.
Had a 2010. We drove them as sales fleet vehicles. Over 300k we got out of em!
Nice!
I’ve actually seen a HHR SS panel and a HHR SS half pannel but I don’t recall seeing a regular one
I still have 2005 chysler pt cruiser with 120349 miles on it and love it
Nice!
Thanks
Dave you should do a video on the Camaro
Yup, planning on it
I have a question. I am about to change careers and start working at a Chevy dealership in February. I was wondering how can I study to be prepared for the job and also the product. Just so I can go into it with some knowledge rather then none.
Congrats on the upcoming career change! You can get a lot of product info right on chevy's website. Build up vehicles to see what comes with different packages. Probably a good place to start learning from home.
A superb cult classic...a supremely practical station-wagon sports car.
Dave B. Do you work all Holidays? including thanksgiving and Christmas?
My job has 2 of them today for delivery.
They are perfect for that.
So there is talk the 2008 HHR LS 2.2 motor is a corn gas car???There is also hype compared to Corvette motors. Can you pls do video to tell us what makes and models that pertain to this hype. Thanks
I LIKE CLASSIC AMERICAN CARS. I SAW SAME LOOK OF HHR AT THE PARKING LOT LAST NIGHT. IS THIS GOOD FOR OFF THE ROAD/ DIRT ROAD TRIP?
I AM TRYING AVOID SUV IF I CAN. *
The guy's name is Phil Nesbitt not Brian also the Chrysler PT Cruiser was based off of the old Chrysler Airflow
When do you think they will replace the HHR with something newer? The Ford dealer I go to always has something brand new to get you excited about and hope you will buy while your car is in the shop. Thanks for the video.
I'm pretty sure GM has some sort of EV van in the works. During their EV commercials where they use a blue line to outline different vehicles over the new Ultium platform there is a car, suv, pickup, and sometimes a van. It will probably be a full size though.
@@DaveBsellsChevy Thanks for that info. I was not clear on my question. I meaning to ask when you thought the dealership will get a replacement for the HHR. Sorry about that but I did find your answer informative.
Looks like a hearse banged a PT cruiser. The result is this, the ride every dealership gives you while your vehicle is being worked on.
Dave B I love Chevy
The HHR was an excellent vehicle for small businesses. Much better than the PT Cruiser, especially the panel versions. That ZL-1 was nice.
Agreed
@@DaveBsellsChevy You can't find a HHR in a junkyard but you can find plenty of junk PT Cruisers .
It always reminds me of a Corvair station wagon.
Love it
If the antenna is missing, does the radio still work?
I think a 25 $ headlight restoration kit from advanced auto should work for the fogged up headlights. I had used it on my '05 honda 2 years ago and the headlights has not fogged up since then.
I’ve seen a few where I live only 1 half penal tho and a few SS models don’t see very many regular models now
My 2011 HHR has a USB port , but that's neither here or there (under 60k miles on the odometer, original owner :P)
Family friend with to much money. Bought a PT cruiser and put it in storage. Seems to think it will be worth money one day. Thinks it will be a Barrett Jackson auction car
You never know.. Apparently that was a very popular vehicle when it first came out.
Backup camera is in the rear view mirror
Hi Dave! I have a question... I am interested in purchasing a 2020 vehicle that allegedly is still brand new, it apparently has 400 miles on it and just hasn't been sold to anyone yet. The dealership claims that there's nothing at all wrong with it, it's never been damaged or anything but it had an airbag light from a dead battery. The price is right and it's everything I wanted in a vehicle. Do you think this is an ok vehicle to buy or do you think I should look for something else? Thank you for your info, Dave!
I wouldn't worry about it. We've had cars that sat for long period of time for really no reason at all. What kind of vehicle?
fogot to mention they made a hhr ss panel van i think they only made 250 or so
The people I knew with HHRs were somewhat different characters, everyone I knew with PT cruisers were dog groomers.
I have a friend who has an HHR that he uses to haul his film production equipment. He loves the thing.
I rented a black one for a week. Everyone made fun of me. They thought it looked like a hearse. Everyone would ask me where's the funeral. I liked the car even though it looks a hearse.
Would have made a great Trunk or Treat vehicles these days... lol
I was told it’s a Homie Hot Rod.😁
Surprisingly HHR did slightly better than the PT cruiser after first two years of release. Of coarse the first year of PT cruiser they had 132,00 and second year 138,000. That far out sold the HHR
And the PT Cruiser was sold in europe also they had Diesel option also
that's cool, I never knew there was a diesel.
@@DaveBsellsChevy yep in Europe it was a 2.2 turbo from Mercedes and they had a 1.6 and 2.0 gas engine option
I just both 2008 LT with 2.4 engine and 95k on it. Paid 8k€ for it but condition is extremly good.
PT was motor car of the year and was #1 selling one time. Then fell flat and ended.
I think the HHR was inspired by the SSR as well. Or could be the SSR was inspired by the Suburban u showed in the beginning.
SSR's were very cool. I liked them a lot
didnt they also have a pickup truck version that had a hard tonneau on the box
That was the SSR👍
Yup, the SSR.. I liked those! 6.0L V8, manual transmission, convertible. It was pretty cool in my eyes
i always thought that car looks like a gangster car.
Sold a car today 2020 santa fe 3 sales for me this month woooo
Nice!!

@@enriquebarajas7285 it’s a nice car I love it 900 miles on it already gotta take it to the dealer one Monday to have the charge port looked at cause it’s not charging
How often do y'all have customers come in and try to buy the HHR? I didn't know the same guy designed both, but the Pt Cruiser was junk IMHO, and the HHR was quality.
No one asks about them anymore and we haven't had one for sale in years.
@@DaveBsellsChevy I figured that people would try to buy THAT HHR that y'all have.
what's the backstory on this hhr
The dealership has used it since it was new. When the previous owner sold the company Schumacher had it re-wrapped.
Not many complains 155k miles I find it ironic heritage high roof. My roof is the only thing I don't like, I pull up to a red light cannot see the light and sunroof dropped low and I rub my head and I am only 5 9'
247K miles on my 2007 HHR.
Nice! I have 223k on my GMC Yukon
Nice!
Actual utility in a utility vehicle. How novel.
💯💯💯
🤔 not bad 👍🏻🇺🇸
I'm 6 2 n I test drove one. Too many blindfolds so I passed on it
I have my just reach 200k no problemsat all
Heritage High Roof (sorry, jumped the gun before watching)
Heritage High Roof.
Heritage High Roof
Retro style cars have a limited life. There is no way to upgrade the design without changing the original concept.
Fan of the video! Interesting! Not a fan of this dudes "designs"
Fair enough!
Hillbilly hot rod
Hhr stands for hideous hecking ripoff lol
HHR and PT cruiser are both equally as ugly. Function over form. By 2031 gas cars will be old history, EVs will take over.
They did have good function for sure.
HHR is the junky version of the PT cruiser… all mechanics know how big piles of garbage they were..
Totally baseless comment. All of the people who have commented to this post with 200K and 300k miles on their HHRs would likely disagree with you!!
I love my full panel 2009 base 2.2 hhr.
