The idea that Maleficent was so angered by not being invited to a christening that she decided to curse the innocent baby has always seemed a bit silly, when you think about it. It just always seemed like there was more to the story than what Disney gave fans with Sleeping Beauty. Thankfully, since the animated classic was released in 1959, there have been a ton of stories and movies since that have added a lot of depth to characters like Maleficent and Queen Leah. And let’s face it, they were already pretty solid characters. One of the most interesting things to come out of these side stories though would have to be a fan theory that describes a tragic situation the King and Queen faced. A tragedy that left them no choice but to ask the Dark Fairy for help.

I think the theory of Queen Lya's pregnancy being heald makes the most sense.
Because #1, if Aroura was biologically Maleficent's, then she would’ve resembled her. And #2 Aroura would’ve grown up with magical powers. *and I'm positive that the 3 fairies would’ve noticed*
Or aroura got the dads side of the genes and not his dark hair and throwers can be because magnificent never taught her how to use them or taken them away at birth
Again darker magicks being used points more to resurrection of the baby than of Maleficent birthing Aurora herself.
One, Something's you only learn after being taught. All because one parent can play an instrument doesn't mean the child can without lessons. Two, There is many stories where you get powers after a select age. We don't see her grow up.
Three, there is such things as skip jeans, both of my nannas parents have brown hair she had blond hair along with cousin's in her father's side, so looks isn't the key to bring related
Five, notice you never see Maleficents hair.
You go from the movie where they did the villains it proves the king is the bad guy and Maleficent is true guardian protector of the baby and child as the three fairies were useless at doing there job. She loved the king till betrayed but isn't the mother.
If Maleficent was Auroras biological mother then why did she put this curse on her when she turns 16 she sting her finger on a spiningwheel and dies was it because of her revenge or was it because she threated the to give back her child🤔
The old explanation that I received came from old court traditions surrounding the christening of noble children in which everyone of rank and prestige was invited, even familial and political rivals as these ceremonies were like moots, gatherings where aggression and violence were strictly prohibited and enforced by everyone. The three faerie godmothers were sent to represent the Seelie court of the Fey and Maleficent was the representative of the UnSeelie court, to have not sent them an invitation was a grave insult. As much as people disliked the UnSeelie court, they were still a group with authority and resources.

Only trouble I have is. Malifcent did curelse aura to die. It was one of the three fairies.. the blue one I think that alters the curse from death to eternal sleep till loves true kiss. Other then that I could see this theory being true
Fairies, in folklore, substitute their own babies for human babies. Aurora was indeed the biological daughter of the King and the sorceress. Half fae. The “good” fairies raised her to make sure any powers the girl might have would be suppressed and hidden. Also, that is why the King and his wife did not fight to keep the baby.
Your comment does make more sense than what is being said in the video. I've read about Faeries, Sirens, and other deities. They did trick people in many devious ways in the past.

I've read a few dark-fae stories about this. Super creepy that the king and queen GAVE their child to the fae who later admitted they'd been trying to get their hands on one of these royal kids for centuries. It was really good.

honestly i believe this idea, yes Maleficent is the mistress of all evil and a villain but even stuff like infertility will have strike a villains heart and especially if the queen and maleficent were somehow sisters too. Maleficent may be evil but she isn't a monster.
I mostly think the Queen Lea was comfortable with Malificent when she crashed the party was because she is the most thankful to Malificent for bringing the Queen her wish of having a baby. Well of course she would be the only one thankful to Malificent other than everyone else
ive read another theory where the Queen had issues during pregnancy and kept it a secret from the king ( cause like in a non Disney universe what happens to the queen who cannot give the king a child?)
She had secretly asked Maleficent for help ( be it reviving or healing the pregnancy so the queen would finally have the child)
She never told the husband who was against the dark fairy ( idk if this one counted the history between the king and Maleficent from the live action) and the husband wasnt aware that the only reason his child was alive was due to her intervention.
Also the announcement of a royal was like a massive deal and to purposely be left out and then even told directly she wasn't wanted was like a MASSIVE backhand so she was like BIG mad
actually I remember reading the original story of sleeping beauty by the Grimm brothers and Disney got much of the Sleeping beauty tale wrong in fact they should have also showed them getting ready for the celebration which they did in the original tale in fact in the original version of the tale there were a lot of fairies that were going to be invited to the baby's christening (pardon me if I misspelled that ) in fact there were going to be 12 fairies in total at the celebration which would have included Maleficent but during preparations the King noticed they only had 11 gold plates and he believed it would be considered more rude and dangerous to ask one of the most powerful fairies to eat on a normal plate made of china rather than gold that they decided that the safest idea was to choose which fairy to not invite and so they didn't invite Maleficent because they lacked the number of plates that to make all the fairies welcome to the party or at least that is what was suggested in the original tale.

@@elisewallisrischar21 mom used to read me the grimm brothers version almost every night when I was young I remember the story so I know that is what happened in that version. It is the worst part of an auditory memory it ruins many fairy tales that Disney turns into movies
It seems hard to believe such a thing. Maleficent was not always this way. She was a good young fairy with strong magic until she was betrayed by someone she once trusted. It takes time to heal old wounds of the past and redeem herself. Maleficent became a better person, better than before.
I agree, however the plot of the animated movie was very different from the live action movie. they are both great on their own and share some similarities but I doubt Maleficent had much to do with the king and queen. she was the most powerful of the fairies and thus their "queen". to not invite her was rude her but to not invite her and invite some of her subjects was an insult that she couldn't take lying down.

i always found it kinda odd how the queen wasn't even scared or angry at maleficent for crashing the party, since she (maleficent) comes off as someone who could VERY easily do something bad to someone, IF she REALLY wanted to. 😬

I honestly think that the queen didn't know anything about maleficent because she was not ever in contact with her. she had no reason to fear her. my only other theory is that even if the people are in a panic they would look to the royal family for guidance and she had to keep a strong and serene facade to keep the nobilty and guests from devolving into full panic and chaos.

You know, when I was a kid they had a sleeping beauty but it wasn't Disney's version, but another version.
In this version, Maleficent was living with the other fairies and when the invitations were delivered, Maleficent' s invitation went under a rug. She was so outrage being the only one not invited.
Fast forward 16 years and they finally found the invite (Guess they didn't need to clean much) and she lifted the curse herself.
It was a cute story. Funny if you think about it.
At least you mentioned the live action remake Maleficent, but mentioning the book is pretty silly. I just don't see Maleficent and the Queen being sisters, there's not any evidence.
Or we can go with the much simpler answer of when dealing with the FAE manners and protocol are very important and since they invited every other fairy in the area to be there how could you not invite her that was a very great slight against her and her response as a fairy is perfectly within Fae psychological operating parameters.
Additionally to what you have stated,in medieval times,the same timeframe that the story is set in,the christening of a member of the royal family was a public celebration and thus was a grave insult to Maleficent to not be invited,it be the equivalent of trying to not invite someone to Christmas (or the equivalent for your belief system) or Halloween
In the movie (and story) Maleficent cursed the child to die on her 16th birthday. It was Merryweather who changed the curse into one of deep sleep with the kiss caveat. Good thing the girl met the fella in the forest!

It didn't make sense that someone with great power got mad that she wasn't invited to something? Well, i guess you're right. I have never heard of anyone getting mad and going on a rampage because their kid wasn't invited to a birthday party or anything like that.
Back then, things were different. Especially from what I have read when it comes to royal or people in position of power.
In real life, Leah's position as queen would not be secure after giving birth to Aurora; it was vustomary for most queens to give birth to at least two sons first.

I suppose that it has escaped the notice of many people but it was seen as an insult for a royal family to not invite a noble family/ neighboring monarch, (that your kingdom is on good terms or allied with), to a christening. Maleficent is the queen of fairies in a nearby fairy kingdom that was on good terms with king stephan's kingdom. THE REASON FOR HER RAGE IS THAT THREE FAIRIES WERE INVITED TO THE CHRISTENING YET MALEFICENT, THE QUEEN OF FAIRIES, WAS NOT. That was an unforgivable insult as it disrupts the power heirarchy of the fairy kingdom. The three fairies could easily have been the ones who assisted in keeping baby Aurora alive and the queen healthy through the pregnancy, however if Maleficent had forbade it they would have been powerless to help the human king and queen. This theory is further proven by the fact that the three fairies never returned to the fairy kingdom even after Maleficent was killed because they had broken ettiquet and the laws of courtesy which is a huge crime to the Fae folk/ Fairies. The curse was likely an alternative to all out war, which would have been unavoidable, if she had killed Aurora, the king, or the queen. Maleficent did curse Aurora to die originally likely because she thought it best to use the kingdom and it's royal family as an example for insulting her. I doubt Maleficent actually had any contact with the royal family unless strictly required to. Also the blue fairy changed the curse to one of sleep rather than death.

But does no one remember the rules about Fae? In simple terms The king and Queen committed to ultimate no no in inviting Fae from the light spring court to the ceremony, but not the dark winter court. As the queen of the winter court she could only interpret this as the kingdom declaring a side, it's not hers, so they are now her enemy.
In addition a royal baby been born was a public affair and to not receive an invitation was the worse offense you could commit. To her this was a double treachery and the KIng and Queen were WELL AWARE of these rules and willingly broke them anyway.
She was correct to be livid about it and right to place a curse on them for daring to choose a side in matters that didn't concern mortals, the spring court mocking her didn't help matters. Now Fae do not have a concept of 'good' and 'bad' she is simply the dark winter to the other 3 Fae light spring. They don't understand or rather have the same morals we do, in her eyes she was punishing the family that scorned her justly- there is no the baby is innocent just the baby caused this so cursing the baby is have justice will be given.
Fae are no humans, they are creatures of Old powerful magic- applying human logic and reasoning won't work. They have their own system and rules and one does not ever break them.
I agree with you,also the king and queen could have protected their daughter by just telling Maleficent that she WAS invited,didn't she get her invitation? Yes this throws the royal messenger under the carriage. Would Maleficent have known that they were lying? Yes she would have,but now the door is open and Maleficent could either walk through the door or closed it.

In the book Mistress of all Evil in the Villains series, it explains that Aurora is Maleficent's daughter as she was created by a spell by three witches that took a part of Maleficent's soul and that's part of the reason why Maleficent became evil

In the live action, king Stefan was never a prince. He was a squire who became king by stealing Maleficent’s wings, and giving them to the king o. The pretense he killed her.
Maleficent is one of my favourite Disney characters because of both her design and just her overall story (plus I think that Angelina Jolie was a perfect choice for her live action interpretation and I loved how she had a nice mother daughter relationship with Aurora). While I think some of these theories are out there (mainly the fact that Maleficent and Queen Leah could be sisters), I think they are all vey interesting and I think any of them could be true in some way.
She was upset for not being invited because in the time period it takes place that was a huge FU to not be invited to something like that

How would you feel if you were the only one not invited. Besides it was the blue fairy who did the curse of putting the princess to sleep till true loves kiss. Then the three fairies put everyone to sleep till the princess woke up making the chances of waking up very slim. The fairies took the baby away only giving her back on the day the cures will come true. Sometimes the true bullies are the ones who pretend to be the nicest to you.
in the movie Maleficent - King Stephan wasn't of royal blood, he became king cuz he got to marry the last kings daughter as payment for ''slaying'' Maleficent and therefor he took her wings to make it seem like he had killed her while in fact he hadn't

I think I’m the movie the reason is simply because, maleficent is evil and they didn’t want an evil person at the baby’s party…it may frighten their guests ect. Malificent was upset because, she’s offended by not being invited due to their thoughts about her being evil and being shund by the king and queen…treated differently than others in the kingdom. That’s what I got from it anyways. Maleficent practices evil…the rest of the kingdom doesn’t seem to. Lots of couple have a hard time getting pregnant at first and then, later are blessed after trying since, it isn’t unheard of. I like this theory though it’s kinda cool.
There is a problem with this theory. Maleficent in the original animated movie cursed Aurora to die, not simply fall asleep. The third fairy amended the curse to be sleep instead of death. The animated film is truer to the original Grimms' tale, and Disney changed it in the live-action to be less harsh and cruel. Maleficent was simply slighted by the king and queen for not being invited. By not being invited she took great offense and death of mere humans would not matter to a angered fairy. Also, if she had helped the queen to conceive, Maleficent would have a vested interest for the baby's well-being. Cursing the baby to death proves she didn't help in the past.This theory is fun to imagine, though. I love theory crafting :)
Well if Queen Lya and Maleficent are sisters that would also explain the anger of not being invited to Arora's christening. I also think that Queen Lya wanted to invite Maleficent which also explains her reaction to Maleficent being upset, she was expecting her to be upset that she wasn't invited and probably tried to warn Kids ng Stefan of her sisters anger of this.

I think there's more of a chance that Maleficent was acting on typical Fae logic. In folklore faries were notoriously petty and very chaotic when it came to mortals. They see mortals as play things and inferior unless a mortal is "blessed/divined". In fact it's more out of character that the 3 "good" fairies showed such servitude to the royal family and were as selfless towards Aurora as to save her and give up their powers to raise her. It makes no sense.
Maleficent was also the strongest fairy in the land so if the king and queen invited lesser fairies and not her it would have been seen as spiteful. Not to mention that fairies were known for tricking and setting up mortals to be in debt to them. If you go by the chance that Maleficent saved/resurrected baby Aurora from death at birth or healed the queen so she could have a successful pregnancy, then the king and queen didn't show their appreciation by inviting the one who made it possible than Maleficent's outrage is believable.
Also the king and queen not being phased by her presence or even the presence of the 3 good fairies could mean they are both accustomed to them or regularly seeked out their power. It's kind of the same when you hear of tales of royalty seeking out a witch or warlock for help but with a steeper price to pay. It's never explained what kind of powers each fairy had; one fairy gave her beauty, another gave her grace, and the last one couldn't break the death curse but changed it to slumber. Maleficent's was seen as most powerful due to her specializing in death(possible resurrection) and destruction which are in most folklore seen as taboo.
The answer is so simple. Maleficent and King Stephan were former lovers. Before becoming king, Stephan left Maleficent to marry Princess Leah as a condition for inheriting her father’s throne. Enraged, Maleficent cursed the newly-coronated Royal Couple with infertility. The Three Good Fairies were then called in to counteract the curse, enabling Aurora’s birth. Maleficent then crashed Aurora’s christening so that she could place a curse on the newborn, setting the film’s main plot into motion. See? Simple!
King Stephan could easily be the one with the fertility issues. The problem is not always with the woman.

if the theory of the queens child was lost then they turn to her cause she would use dark magic. i could see her using the pasted child as a building block to make a magical child, making the baby all of theirs. their could have been many still births before hand to drive them to it then not really caring when given the child. so the child would still look as their child anyway. that fact it was Maleficent's magic that gave the child life in some way still makes the baby hers as well.

i think maleficent did it out of respect for the queen and in the descendants movis she and hades had a daughter named mal she spared audrey's mom aka sleeping beauty iby cursing her into a eternal slumber instead of killing her thats proof she is merciful to the child i named one of my dogs after maleficent

It would be more realistic if she helped the queen have a child, though honestly, I dont think people realize how much of a faux pas it is to 'not' invite someone very important to an event like that. Specially when you invite everybody else...her reaction was actually on par for the time frame.
Stephan was not a prince in Maleficent, he was a knight or something who got to marry Lya by cutting off and bringing the King Maleficent's wings.

Also, this is in a fantasy land where fairies are known to be real. Medieval hierarchy could be completely different there. In addition, I believe that competitions to marry princesses in that time weren't really unheard-of, even with a few commoners being allowed to enter.
I don't think this theory has any merit. Disney villains, in the original movies were evil, and most didn't have a reason to be. The theory about Maleficent and queen Lea being siblings was explored in a story, can't remember the author but I think it was a collection of short stories about Fae. Maleficent's reason for being angry about being the only one not invited is out of pride, she felt sobbed, shunned. How dare they exclude her, when she was the most powerful creature. As for the sleeping part, in the original fable it's the last of the three fairies changing the curse from death to slumber. Sadly, I cannot recall the part in which Maleficent curses Aurora in the Disney movie
Okay but if she just saved her life, how does that make Maleficent her biological mother?
i mean if she created her insead of resurrecting her she would essentially be maleficent's child but I don't believe in either of the theories presented.
I think Maleficent was presented as a kinder person in that movie. Maybe it was just her presence that was disturbing why she wasn't invited. She had been treated badly all her life because of it. Judging a book by its cover

Malificent’s curse was that Aurora would be killed by the spinning wheel. It was the 3 fairies that changed or added to it so that Aurora would just fall asleep.
Reminds me of "Princess Heloise." The fairy of the well granted her mother the wish and she gave birth to a beautiful healthy daughter. All three fairies were invited but the fairy of the well wasn't allowed. She came... yeah... and cursed Heloise. She would never see the light of day. If she did, she'd turn into a dear.
Heloise grew up with her governess's daughters, Kunigunde, the spoiled one, and Johanna, a faithfoul companion towards the princess.
As she grew up she became a fair maiden and was supposed to marry. A prince fell in love with her, arrangements were made and the love was deep... very deep. But then, on her sixteenth birthday, she left her home. Johanna, Kunigunde and the governess had to make sure that nothing happened and she didn't see the light of day. But the governess wanted Kunigunde to become queen and opened the door. Heloise turned into a deer and Johanna ran after her.
Kunigunde, dressed up as Princess Heloise, and her mother arrived at the castle. The prince was in shock, she was NOT the princess from the portrait.
He and his friend went out hunting. The prince shot the deer right into the heart but didn't see the heart-shaped locker at first. Heloise was dead and became human again.
Everyone was devastated and deeply saddened about the loss. But the prince kissed Heloise and she woke up and they lived happily ever after...
And this is where I sigh. If you look at fae in general more powerful fairies/elves are often, guess what, human sized like Maleficent. So lets start with the fact that Maleficent was of higher status than the trio. In medieval culture not being invited to a major event like that while those of lower status 'the rabble' were is a MASSIVE insult. A huge, huge mistake on their part.

I think that Maleficents motives are that of ego. She is a very powerful fairy, a very important fairy. Not just that a queen in her own right and to not have been invited would have been a great disrespect and insult to her. So I think her motives were that of being publicly excluded.
The fae aren't human so it isn't about ego. the King and queen broke the laws of courtesy and Maleficent was dishing out justice for the mortals who took sides and insulted her. It may not have been just to a human with our morals and values but to a fae being it was just as she was not human.

Stefan Is a Peasant in Maleficent. When the king was Dying he said the one who kills maleficent would marry his daughter and become king. So it was Queen Leia who was princess. Maybe you should do more research before you post a video in the future.

I could see them being sister cuz they for describe the queen as “a kind and his fair queen” and yes it could be fair as in beautiful, but in that case why not say beautiful? Cuz Disney does to describe other queens and princesses, but instead it used ‘fair’ and consider that fairies are apart of this would then it would also be the the other name fore Fairies or Fae are the fair folk. On top of that it could also be why maleficient was so tall compared to the natural state of the other faires. Maybe they had the same dad and different moms, and maleficent is the queen’s half sister, maybe her father (a king) had his wife and child/successor (aurora’s mom is the daughter here) and then a fairy mistress and the daughter he had with her (maleficient is the daughter here), so half sisters and their shared father gave them their similar looks. AND if one child was known as the legitimate heir and the half sister the daughter of the kings fairy mistress, then the relationship between them would be like that, where they weren’t exactly friends but still knew and excepted that they were half sister (also couldn’t be to familiar with each other cuz it was have caused issues with the parents if they were close), so awkward but tolerant and polite of each other. And if maleficent helped her half sister with getting a baby she would be upset she was AGAIN being left out of a family celebration, which if she was a illegitimate child of the kings fairy mistress she would have been left out a lot, and maybe thought this would be different since she helped with getting her pregnant and they were inviting fairies, which if you knew your Hal sister was a fairy and had helped her get her child infringing said half sister to bless their child would be the obvious thing to do, and would be a huge slight not to invite her. OR as if maleficient gave her own child to he half sister queen, then maybe the queen and king would be nervous to have the baby’s bio mom their in case they ask questions, AND if aurora ever actually showed something magical happing they would just say “oh I bet she could do this cuz of those blessing she got a baby by the fair folk!” Instead of “oh she is just like her mom” it could also be a same mom different dads, one child a fair and hidden, never included in family get togethers, and the beloved princess who becomes queen. And then either of the scenarios I mentioned would still fit.

I Think you may need to take a look at the OG story. There are two versions and in neither of them is Maleficent her mother.
They both gave birth at the same time, but the queen baby died, so maleficent gave her baby to be raised by its father.
Sounds like a changeling story.
Maybe they made a deal with her to get pregnant and then went back on it
