Maleficent might not have the best motivation of all time, but her design, her elegance, her voice performance, her powers, her fits of rage, her sarcasm, and even her dragon form make her a very intimidating classic villain
I really love that the artists drew upon old tapestries and art for the film. It really gives it a medieval vibe, older than most fairy tales. I don't blame "Wish" and "Frozen 2" for being inspired by it.
@@dannyjorde2677 Perhaps for scary movies, where the violence/action takes place over narrative, but in something that's story-driven, having a reason (power, revenge, pettiness, personality, etc.) is kind of important.
I think one of the biggest things about villains we love is we want to figure them out. We already know a lot about our protagonists but the mystery of the villain is more intriguing as the story goes along than the hero.

I don’t know why, but I get the feeling that, even if they *did* invite Maleficent, she would have cursed someone anyway. Maybe not Aurora, but I have a hunch that she would have deliberately looked for a reason to curse someone the entire time she was there
Yeah that is definitely possible. It's honestly a lose lose situation regardless for aurora's parents at least in the disney animated film. In the fairy tales the fairies aren't evil per se, but can be vengeful when they feel wronged.
*(Disney Villains comic spoilers alert)* I love Soo Lee's comic "Disney Villains", because it shows that: no, she wouldn't. She was actually nice to the prince that admired her, and even gave him a gift (even tho he offended her before lo). She doesn't attack random people because yes, she only does it when her twisted morality feels offended. If you don't mess with her, she will leave you alone. _Why_ would Maleficent curse a random, insignificant person, if the loss would cause no sorrow? She cursed Aurora because she was the most important person in the kingdom at the moment. But, if she was invited, it would be totally the opposite.
It's been ages sense I saw this movie, but I'm gonna ramble and state the obvious about how much I like the depth of this dynamic as he describes it. Philip is a brave guy with a good heart and is empowered by gifted women. They give him the tools and encouragement to defeat someone they couldn't fight alone. He is the key to everything. And it goes back to the idea that the Princess's goodness and friendliness is rewarded by the fact that they now have connections when things go to hell. While the evil queen seems to be fighting alone.
I like Jordan Peterson's take on her character. Maleficent is evil incarnate. Aurora's parents attempt to shield their child from evil, by not inviting her. In doing so however, they cause evil to appear unrestrained and vindictive. The moral being, you can shelter a child from the evils of the world, but all you will accomplish is creating a person unable to handle evil when it does appear.
Oh yeah and this is emphasized further when the king burned all the spinning wheels and sent Aurora to live in the forest under a pseudonym to try to protect her, which ironically only set her up to fall into Maleficent's hands.
@@kristenskousen1317 and having your finger pricked is also great symbolism. She was harmed by something so small, representing her frailness due to the sheltering.
Lol Aurora's parents betrothed her as a BABY to a stranger. Instead of being actual parents and protecting their baby, they gave her away to those 3 incopetents that isolated her and eventually made her unable to rule her own kingdom in the future. They didn't even know Maleficent, they didn't invite her because they wanted to keep anyone different from them away. They never tried to "prevent evil", they were just following royal rules. And to remind you: Aurora married (a creepy stranger) at 16, but if the story was more accurate to the middle ages, she would be married at 12 or less and forcely become a mother of MANY children, as much as her husband would demand. Yeah, sleeping forever is way better than this fate. Maleficent should have done much worse to be fair, she was a better mom for her pet (Diablo) than Aurora's both parents.
For some reason, I always had trouble understanding how villains being evil for the sake of evil made them good villains. I thought they needed to have a sensical motive. Now I understand: some people just want to see you hurt, for no apparent reason. Well, maybe it is internal - some kind of hatred for themselves, but in general, many bad people you'll encounter in real life genuinely hate your guts just "because". This is great, I need to take notes right now, I could apply this pettiness to my own villains! >:D
It highly depends of the kind of story it is and what roll they have. In this case Maleficent only needs to be a challenge to the protagonists, a test to their strength, love and bravery, and she does it perfectly. If the story wanted to test the morals of their protagonist a more sympathetic villain or one with better motivations would be needed but in this case having a complete force of darkness who just enjoy suffering is the best.
For anyone who hasn't gotten into the Kingdom Hearts series. You'll appreciate Maleficent's role in the series. The lore is very heavy but it's a fantastic game series!
Maleficent is Iconic because look at this. She is an Active character in the story a threat you have to take seriously and has an Iconic design. She literally beats out Disney other "Sympathetic villains" because you see her you know things are serious.
I love this movie!!! I always thought the three fairies are true protagonists not Aurora. Aurora is more like macguffin in the story. The three fairies are symbols of all good in nature: Flora, Fauna and Merryweather. Maleficent is dark naturel force: death, decay, destruction. Aurora is a new life, ressurection. A Dawn. Prince Philip is humanity.
I never thought Maleficent was a fairy in my life, she was a SORCEROUS. When I was a kid, I thought she was the wife of the Devil, she was so powerful and dangerous and shared a delight in causing fear and distress. Even at the end, she says herself when speaking to Prince Philip, "Now you'll deal with ME, and all the powers of Hell." HELL. Fairies don't do hell, witches do.
Only if you are stead fast into thinking things in the christian mindset. Fairies in folklore aren't some being of goodness. They are nature incarnate and can be kind and merciful, but just as cruel and vindictive.
Depends on the kind of fairy you're dealing with--there's a reason that fear of offending the fair folk persists to this day in places like Scotland and Ireland. Way before Victorian artists bowdlerized fairies into cute, tiny things that skipped across flower blossoms and wore acorns for hats, the fair folk were often given dark backstories. Some said they were fallen angels who had refused to take sides in the war between Heaven and Hell, so they were banished to Earth for the rest of time. Some said fairies were the spirits of the restless dead. Some legends say the fair folk had to tithe seven unlucky human souls to Hell every so often in exchange for immortality. Some accounts also say that the fairies are divided into two rival courts, traditionally called the Seelie and Unseelie--in modern translation, Holy and Unholy. The Seelie could be benevolent if treated correctly, but you still didn't want to make them mad; the Unseelie despised humans and tormented them whenever possible. Even Shakespeare made sure to say in A Midsummer Night's Dream that Oberon and Titania's court did not fear the sound of church bells (commonly believed to repel evil--they certainly worked on Chernobog!), so it would be clear to the audience that they weren't evil, villainous fairies--and they *still* caused a lot of trouble!
Maleficent is 1 of those villains who EMBRACES being evil. She's like what Jack Horner would become in Puss in Boots 2. An unapologetic sadist and agent of pure chaotic evil who loves being the bad guy.
I believe this was the 1st Disney film released after Tolkien published THE LORD OF THE RINGS, and it kinda shows. Certain elements of it do seem to come from LOTR rather than the original fairy tale, such as the villain having a Mordor-esque barren wasteland she calls home, and an Orc army. I don’t know whether Walt Disney himself ever read the book (although I’m pretty sure he read THE HOBBIT), and I know Tolkien would’ve absolutely hated the comparison (Tolkien did not exactly have the highest opinion of Disney to put it lightly), but I’m pretty certain some of the animators and story people had read LOTR and incorporated certain aspects of it.
Lady tremaine, the evil queen and maleficent are the unholy black hearted trinity on Disney! Damn maleficent’s dragon transformation is still so incredible to this day! Aldone after the new snow woke movies come otter can you make comparison video on that and the Snow White and the huntsman movie? Cause I have to be honest when I say this new movie is gonna make that one look like a masterpiece.
Maleficent always stuck in my mind as a kid, not just because of her "and all the powers of hell" line but also how she is a great representation for how fickle and vengeful fairies could be. You wanted to appease these sorts of spirits and creatures because they didn't take kindly to slights. They follow certain rules of etiquette and humans needed to be mindful of them to stay safe. She never needed a more nuanced backstory or reason for taking vengeance to be intimidating and memorable.
5:26 Oh no no no. As a Touhou fan, I dare say that the Maleficent is not a goddess of Hell. She's the one who will spent there the next millenia, while the Real Goddess of Hell, Hecatia Lapislazuli, giggles overseeing her receiving the justified punishment.
I think that what they did with the Maleficent live action is better than these weird attempts of making sympathetic villains in the most recent stories because in this case it is a new story using the original as inspiration and not a “fix” or “renovation” of the original story. A “What if” kind of story where the characters have their rolls interchanged, or at least that´s how I see it.
That’s how I see it too, so I think both movies work for what they want to be. Maleficent is also a MUCH more interesting character than anyone else in Sleeping Beauty, so making her the protagonist makes sense
As much you praise the Maleficent film for been different, that was one that I absolutely hated because changed the best villain classic Disney gave us to a misunderstood character, and this was the one character I couldn't care less to see anything new, just a perfect adaptation to the animated one.....Maleficent is one of my all time favorites villain in all Disney rogues gallery, I absolutely love the MISTRESS OF ALL EVIL of all characters voiced by the late great Eleanor Audley (who also voiced Lady Tremaine in Cinderella) Maleficent was her magnus opus, I absolutely love her work in this film and Maleficent is just so enjoyable to watch and love to hate, not get me wrong Angelina Jolie, was perfect cast for the role in the live action and she nailed to match so many of the iconic moments of Maleficent in the live action, but the fact they made her sympathetic instead of pure evil was the worst decision they could have made and I can stand watch that film because of that, may not be the absolute worst live action adaptation....but still because of this change is pretty awful in my eyes.
The Only Problem that i got for the Maleficent movie is that She isn't Evil that she Supposed to be Where is the part where She transform into a Dragon and tries to kill Phillip but not they made stefan the villain rather than Her, Tim Burton should have Directed Maleficent rather than Robert Stromberg.
Totally agree. Maleficent was always a favorite of mine as a kid and is one of my favorite villains. Sleeping Beauty is such a underrated Disney movie, way ahead of its time. Is one of my favorite movies.
The character I hated completely because it was turned into a “anti-hero” was Cruella. Why are you trying to make me think someone who skins puppies is good?! She gave kids (me) nightmares and was iconic for it!!!!
I don't know why they made her into a Antihero like Maleficent this is exactly like say There Making Ghostface into a Antihero or Pennywise into a Antihero or Hell even better Lord Shen Becoming a Antihero for no reason.
One thing that I think adds to this at least a little bit is that Maleficent was the main villain of the first Kingdom Hearts game right up until the twist reveal that Ansem was the real villain of the game, pulling the strings from the shadows the entire time until he was strong enough to do villain things himself. They had every Disney villain at the time in the game except for Pete and Barbosa who both showed up in Kingdom Hearts II and Maleficent was the one commanding the whole group. Even in Kingdom Hearts II, Pete was working for her and I could be wrong but I think it was her that gave Barbosa command over The Heartless? IDK, I haven’t actually played Kingdom Hearts II 😅. But you see what I mean. I kinda wish this was mentioned in the video but that’s just because I’m a Kingdom Hearts fan.
I definitely agree. I didn’t like the remake of Maleficent with Angelina Jolie. Sometimes it is interesting to give villains an empathetic backstory depending on who it is, but in this case, Maleficent isn’t meant for that. She’s supposed to be evil incarnate. There’s no sob backstory, no empathy towards her…she’s just plain evil with NO redeeming qualities…that was who her character was originally supposed to be. The OG Maleficent will always be the real one to me, NOT Jolie’s version.
Disney needs to stop trying to make her an antihero. Her very name means to inflict harm and destruction. She even said her powers come from hell. She is pure evil and there is no grey area. Embrace it and create a live action movie that dose her justice. I don't need to empathies with her just as I don't need to empathize with Morgoth, or Sauron from The Lord of the Ring
She is definitely an awesome villain. My only problem with her is how stupid it is that the MISTRESS OF ALL EVIL was motivated by the fact that... she wasn't invited to a party.
@@jfk2428of course not, she cursed the child still, that if she touched a specific object, at 16 yo, the child would die. She did it out of pure evil evil, of course!
She wasn't motivated by it, it was her excuse. She wanted to cause problem anyways but doing it with no apparent reason was boring for her so she used that moment to do something evil as she wanted to. And it has as added benefit that by saying it she made the others guilty of the bad things that happened so the king and queen would suffer thinking that Aurora’s curse was, in part, their fault.
@Kayrannkanal20 i get that, and for many stories they work better. The problem is that even when a 'evil and loving it' villain would be better for the story we don't get them anymore.
Maleficent is great in Sleeping Beauty & kingdom Hearts ( first one) the 3 good fairy hearing her her song, trying protect the princess😯 Maleficent raven Hispanic named is...... DEVIL😨 IN ONE SCENE IN KINGDOM HEATS 2 SHE SAVE 3 HEROS, HERE IDEA😯
I just hope that in the Shrek 5 movie, once Disney buys DreamWorks, all the Official Disney Princes and Princesses from their respective movies appear, especially all the characters from Rise of the Guardians movie, from Frozen movies, from How to Train Your Dragon movies, from Brave movie, from Tangled movie, from Moana movie, from Raya and the Last Dragon movie, from Encanto movie and the most important character in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea, Melody, the daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, and thus, they will be the new main characters of the Shrek 5 movie so that they help Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, the children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, the children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and the others to defeat Rumpelstiltskin, Death and all the Official Villains of Disney and DreamWorks, as the Evil Queen, Lady Tremaine, Drizella Tremaine, Maleficent, Marina del Rey, Ursula, Gaston, Forte, Jafar, Sa'luk, Governor Ratcliffe, Shan Yu, Doctor Facilier, Mother Gothel, Zhan Tiri, Te Kā, Tamatoa, the Red Death, Drago Bludvist, Grimmel the Grisly, Mor'du, Prince Hans, Pitch Black, the Druun, the Soldiers and Morgana, and to prevent Rumpelstiltskin, Death and the other Official Villains of Disney and DreamWorks from ruling and destroying the kingdom of Princess Fiona and King Artie called Far Far Away, Shrek along with his wife named Princess Fiona will Prince Eric, Princess Ariel, Prince Adam, Princess Belle, Prince Aladdín, Princess Jasmine, Prince John Smith, Princess Pocahontas, Prince Li Shang, Princess Fa Mulán, Prince Naveen, Princess Tiana, Prince Flynn Rider, Princess Rapunzel, Maui, Queen Moana Waialiki, Hiccup Haddock, Princess Mérida, Kristoff Bjorgman, Queen Anna, Jack Frost, Princess Elsa, Princess Raya, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Anastasia Tremaine and Melody, although in reality, Melody is the first and only that she is not a true Official Disney Princess along with Anastasia Tremaine, because Anastasia Tremaine is not born of royalty, while, Melody made her debut in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea and it is also because she is the first and only daughter of an Official Disney Princess, but Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, the children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle, and Felicia, the children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and the others also need Anastasia Tremaine and Melody's help to protect and save their kingdom called Far Far Away away from Rumpelstiltskin, Death and the other Official Villains of Disney and DreamWorks, because Anastasia Tremaine is now a good person, while, Melody is the daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, but in the Shrek 5 movie, I also want to see the death of Queen Lillian, because since her husband named King Harold passed away in the Shrek 3 movie, she has felt heartbroken and that caused his own death in his kingdom called Far Far Away, and all the inhabitants of Princess Fiona and King Artie's kingdom called Far Far Away are saddened by the death of Queen Lillian, because now she is with her husband named King Harold in heaven, and now they have lost their queen, that means now the kingdom of Far Far Away needs a new queen and King Artie said that his love interest, girlfriend, fiancée and former classmate from Worcestershire school called Princess Guinevere would be the one to be the new Queen of Far Far Away, so King Artie decided to return to his old school called Worcestershire along with Shrek, with his older cousin Princess Fiona, with Donkey, with Dragon, with Puss in Boots, with Kitty Softpaws, with Perrito, with the children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, with the children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and with the others to meet again with their friends from their school who are actually Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany and their love interest, girlfriend and fiancée Princess Guinevere to take them back to their kingdom called Far Far Away, and in the Shrek 5 movie, I also want to see the romance of all the Official Disney Princes and Princesses from their respective movies, especially the romance of Maui and Queen Moana Waialiki, the romance of Hiccup Haddock and Princess Mérida, the romance of Jack Frost and Princess Elsa, the romance of Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany and the romance of King Artie and Princess Guinevere, because I think in the Shrek 5 movie, Maui will be Queen Moana Waialiki's love interest, boyfriend and fiancé, while Hiccup Haddock will be Princess Mérida's love interest and boyfriend, Princess Tiffany will be Prince Lancelot's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée and Princess Guinevere will be King Artie's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée, because Queen Moana Waialiki is going to fall in love with Maui, Princess Mérida is going to fall in love Hiccup Haddock, Princess Tiffany is going to fall in love with Prince Lancelot and Princess Guinevere is going to fall in love with King Artie, but they don't know how to tell them their feelings towards them and neither how to win their hearts, because every time Queen Moana Waialiki gets too close to Maui when it comes to true love, she gets very nervous with him, while which in the case of Princess Mérida is also the same, because whenever Princess Mérida gets too close to Hiccup Haddock when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous with him, in the case of Princess Tiffany it is also the same, because whenever Princess Tiffany gets too close to Prince Lancelot when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, and in the case of Princess Guinevere too, because every time Princess Guinevere gets too close to King Artie when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, but luckily for them, Princess Fiona will help Queen Moana Waialiki to win the heart of Maui, also Princess Mérida to win the heart of Hiccup Haddock, also Princess Tiffany to win the heart of Prince Lancelot and also Princess Guinevere to win the heart of King Artie, and I also want that in the Shrek movie 5, Jack Frost will be Princess Elsa's love interest and boyfriend, because Jack Frost leaves fall in love with Princess Elsa, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Jack Frost gets too close to Princess Elsa when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, but fortunately for him, Shrek will help Jack Frost to win the heart of Princess Elsa, except Princess Raya and Princess Mirabel Madrigal, because now they will be the only Official Disney Princesses who do not need to have love interests and who can remain single forever, and I also say the same for Melody, the daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, because like Princess Raya and Princess Mirabel Madrigal, she doesn't need a love interest either, but in the Shrek 5 movie, I also want to see the rivalry between King Artie and Queen Anna because they both want to compete in a challenge to see who is the best monarch a of a kingdom, that is, the best ruler of a kingdom, because both want to do what is best for their own kingdom, because King Artie wants to do what is best for his kingdom called Far Far Away because now he is the new King of Far Far Away and Queen Anna wants to do the best for their kingdom called Arendelle because now she is the new Queen of Arendelle, but at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, King Artie and Queen Anna become best friends in the world, because at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, they both learned from their mistakes that they have made since their challenge to compete to see who is the best monarch of a kingdom, that is, the best ruler of a kingdom, and that at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, King Artie and Princess Guinevere see their first true love kiss and that they become a romantic couple, just like Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany, and also that at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, Maui, Hiccup Haddock, Kristoff Bjorgman, Jack Frost, Prince Lancelot and King Artie become the new official members of the Official Disney Princes, while Queen Anna, Princess Elsa, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Princess Tiffany and Princess Guinevere become the new official members of the Official Disney Princesses and that one day, Princess Tiffany will be the wife of Prince Lancelot and that they have a son and a daughter, that is, a family in the future, and that also Princess Guinevere is the wife of King Artie, that they also have a son and a daughter, that is, a family and that she becomes the new Queen of Far Far Away in the future.
The sad thing is that Disney nowadays doesn't make good villains like her anymore. Besides the tiresome twist villains, they also create antagonistic figures that are based on the artists' traumatic experience and want us to sympathize with them in a shallow way. Think about it. We have abusive and overbearing family members like Imelda and Elena Rivera from Coco, Alma Madrigal from Encanto, Ming Lee from Turning Red, Jaeger Clade from Strange World, and recently Bernie from Elemental. And we can forget about the villains of the latest live-action remakes. Captain Hook is the worst example, as you mentioned.
Maleficent is such a great villain Kingdom Hearts made her 50 times better. It's like if they took Darth Vader from Star Wars and put him in a franchise making him more evil
Can you please try to do a video on the rest of Sony Animations following the rise of the Spider-verse franchise? Why don't you try to do a video on Disney Junior shows like the many mickey mouse series, the lion guard, Jake and the neverland pirates, Tangled the series, and Little Einsteins? I think it would be fit to do a video about Disney Sidekicks.
Oh I agree with you maleficent is one of my favorite villains I love her design as well to me in my opinion she better looking than the queen from the Snow White only my opinion no disrespect to the original animated movie no doubt I just love maleficent no never liked the remake never saw it don’t want to animation all the way for me
There are two main reasons anyways besides why Maleficent´s role was done that way on the live-action movies than other way possible: 1. Disney doesn´t know how to made a story with a proper villain or villain´s origin plot-device without getting on to furtherly controversy on conservative groups about pushing over negative references for people or getting too much adult on their movies standards for modern political correctiveness issues. They only actually kinda got it how to do it after the Joker movie came on 2019 and then they made up on Cruella at 2021 being a very nice success as she isn´t a good girl anyways. Maleficent simply failed on getting better inspirative sources before be done, and then when expanding the story for the second movie, it was already late to change her role type anyways! 2. Either way, Maleficent still remains the key-focus center of the movie, though very different from the original movie, she actually shares proper leading role with Aurora character which got improved a lot from the original animated movie!! Thankfully Maleficent still rules on her own, and well this was already so well acknowledged as the real big worthiest thing on which Sleeping Beauty movie was so AWESOME on its own, that even since 80s and 90s on a lot of popular culture stuff, Maleficent role as a main character for the move, eventhough she wasn´t even on the tittle of it, was on the core center of all. (Not to forget her role at the Fantasmic show on the Disney Park Resorts.) So whatever if the movies failled to kept her as a proper villain herself, she was still a great awesome main character on her own, very powerfull, complex and easily dark-twisted anyways.
I'm not one to say you should tote Disney movies like sacred text to save your soul. In fact I enjoyed Maleficent the movie because it was less cut-and-dry. However , after I enjoyed watching it , I never felt like watching it ever again. And that's because "reinventing the past" is a desire that only lasts when unfulfilled.
maleficent was a great baddie I agree. but her new movies that paint her as an antihero I think she needed as a character. Were talking bout a woman based character that symbolically was taken advantage of by her wings being clipped off. Something that was apart of her n she became bitter for it. Descendants even gets into this plot point as well, by pointing out she didnt know wat love was, or she did but got hurt once. Implying the king/ sleeping beauty's daddy.
Well, I disagree and I don't usually say so with stuff like this but my memory is being utterly baffled what the big deal was that Maleficent didn't get invited and that was it? I enjoy the new back stories and I didn't expect to, but in any case, it was an answer to Wicked being so popular. Forgetting the obvious evil in the world: MONEY, and that was why that did well and why Maleficent does well and why a ton of stuff does well and is out there, MONEY. It isn't flashy to do stuff for wholesome reasons which is why we hear about that less. It's not flashy enough.
I didn’t like the live action remake Disney made. My headcannon? Is her origin where her wings are taken, but they never grow back. She vows revenge on Stefan. But, her painful childhood in Mistress of all Evil, by Serena Valentino, is also included. With her ending being how she dies to the Prince. Making her a tragic villian, that chouldve become a grey anti-hero. If there were an animated sequel, have her choose to be good, inspired by Aurora’s daughter, who pettied the dark fae. Have Maleficent earn it, and relearn her abilities and save those under the oppression of an evil, female tyrant that’s taken over the land. This evil monarch could be a reflection of the old Maleficent’s hate and petty envy. Showing that the dark fairy has moved on, realizing how petty, toxic, and cruel she was. Together, she, and Aurora save the kingdom. And her granddaughter, from a deadly poison that mimics the deathly sleep.
I guess this is why Maleficent was made out to be the most powerful and worst villain in the Disney Channel movie Descendants. She’s been one of my favorite villains since I was a little kid
In Medieval time , Royal christening of babies considered as social event not a private event , So it isnt Surprising Maleficent get mad and petty when didn't invited
Maleficent is beautifully designed, animated and voiced but doesn’t hold a candle to the Queen and Stepmother before her. They just stripped all the motivation and thematic elements away and while it still works because she’s very cinematic, character wise she is lacking. A point most people don’t seem to understand is that Maleficent was only using the Christening snub as an excuse to cause more harm. She didn’t care about being around good people, all she wanted was to cause more pain and suffering. That’s her whole personality… pure, petty spite. The fairies messed with her & now the prince is going to pay 10 fold.
Did you want DreamWorks make more originals so please support Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken please watch and review this movie please I beg of you I don't want to this movie is only 1 movie I want to see sequel to or trilogy of Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken please watch and support this movie please
Youll eventually grow out of two dimensional thinking, dont worry. Another decade of trauma and you night realize things actually should be a little nuanced.
GREAT ALDONE.
It’s a motivation kids can understand though, how sad is it if you’re the only one not invited to the party?
To quote Billy Loomis from Scream: It's much scarier when there's no motive
@@dannyjorde2677 Perhaps for scary movies, where the violence/action takes place over narrative, but in something that's story-driven, having a reason (power, revenge, pettiness, personality, etc.) is kind of important.

Yeah that is definitely possible. It's honestly a lose lose situation regardless for aurora's parents at least in the disney animated film.
In the fairy tales the fairies aren't evil per se, but can be vengeful when they feel wronged.
That's how I always felt. She would've cursed Aurora no matter what.
*(Disney Villains comic spoilers alert)*
I love Soo Lee's comic "Disney Villains", because it shows that: no, she wouldn't.

Maleficent may not be my favorite villain, but her elegance and power makes her one of them. Eleanor Audley was phenomenal!
Maleficent is one of my favorite villians in Disney. The character design, voice, personality, etc.
Man I love Maleficent. She's so wonderfully evil, petty, and menacing.
Maleficent best forever
While she might be a "force of evil" I agree that there has to normally be some level of nuance to the character
That is well said.
1:16 don’t forget she was one of the main villains for the Kingdom Hearts games.
I remember being absolutely terrified of Maleficent when I was 5, but to this day she is one of my favorites.
For anyone who hasn't gotten into the Kingdom Hearts series. You'll appreciate Maleficent's role in the series. The lore is very heavy but it's a fantastic game series!
@Vilgax00Any luck? :D
I completely agree she's one of the best and she deserves the title The Mistress of all evil 💚
Supposedly Maleficent is a satanic figure
Maleficent is 1 of those villains who EMBRACES being evil. She's like what Jack Horner would become in Puss in Boots 2. An unapologetic sadist and agent of pure chaotic evil who loves being the bad guy.
I love that she's evil AND she knows it and doesn't give a damn.
Unbelievable that Maleficents last word was hell
She even has the best dorm in Twisted Wonderland
What a classic, I never liked the remake, making Maleficent sympathetic, I enjoyed the original one enjoying her evil power.
I love Maleficent, as a child I saw the old Latin Spanish Version from Sleeping Beauty and the voice actress of her was a legend.
@@jfk2428 yep
@@jfk2428 yeah
@@greyworld6242 aside from the actual dragon at Disneyland that went up in flames.
I've always loved her dragon form since i was a kid! She looked so freakin badass! 🐲🔥
Best Voice , Best Character Design , Maleficent Easily my God Tier Favourite Disney Villain
They also knocked down other characters to make Maleficent seem better such as Phillip, the 3 fairies, Aurora's father etc.
I think Disney today is basing themselves around the logic of “if they’re just evil, that’s not interesting” which is kind of damaging
What do I win?
I mean i agree, as a cartoon it works but there is nothing outside of it
Totally agree. Maleficent was always a favorite of mine as a kid and is one of my favorite villains. Sleeping Beauty is such a underrated Disney movie, way ahead of its time. Is one of my favorite movies.
"fairytale must have happy ending"... man, you don't know how cruel and brutal fairytales are. And not all of them got happy ending.
Well, in some stories, Maleficent is the victim. Depending on the writer. But, in the original takes, they’re named Grimm for a reason.
A villain they humanized. I hate how people do that. Leave my villains alone.
Exactly 🥲
She is definitely an awesome villain. My only problem with her is how stupid it is that the MISTRESS OF ALL EVIL was motivated by the fact that... she wasn't invited to a party.
@@jfk2428of course not, she cursed the child still, that if she touched a specific object, at 16 yo, the child would die.
She did it out of pure evil evil, of course!
It can be insulting tbh, nobility and royalty used to get petty over these things
This was an Incredible Video for My All Time Favorite Female Disney of All Time and My Third Favorite Disney Villain.
I wish we had more villains who know they're evil and enjoy it
@Kayrannkanal20 i get that, and for many stories they work better.
Love this channel man ❤🎉
I just hope that in the Shrek 5 movie, once Disney buys DreamWorks, all the Official Disney Princes and Princesses from their respective movies appear, especially all the characters from Rise of the Guardians movie, from Frozen movies, from How to Train Your Dragon movies, from Brave movie, from Tangled movie, from Moana movie, from Raya and the Last Dragon movie, from Encanto movie and the most important character in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea, Melody, the daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, and thus, they will be the new main characters of the Shrek 5 movie so that they help Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, the children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, the children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and the others to defeat Rumpelstiltskin, Death and all the Official Villains of Disney and DreamWorks, as the Evil Queen, Lady Tremaine, Drizella Tremaine, Maleficent, Marina del Rey, Ursula, Gaston, Forte, Jafar, Sa'luk, Governor Ratcliffe, Shan Yu, Doctor Facilier, Mother Gothel, Zhan Tiri, Te Kā, Tamatoa, the Red Death, Drago Bludvist, Grimmel the Grisly, Mor'du, Prince Hans, Pitch Black, the Druun, the Soldiers and Morgana, and to prevent Rumpelstiltskin, Death and the other Official Villains of Disney and DreamWorks from ruling and destroying the kingdom of Princess Fiona and King Artie called Far Far Away, Shrek along with his wife named Princess Fiona will need help from their new friends which are the Official Disney Princes and Princesses, as Prince Florian, Princess Snow White, Prince Charming, Princess Cinderella, Prince Philip, Princess Aurora, Prince Eric, Princess Ariel, Prince Adam, Princess Belle, Prince Aladdín, Princess Jasmine, Prince John Smith, Princess Pocahontas, Prince Li Shang, Princess Fa Mulán, Prince Naveen, Princess Tiana, Prince Flynn Rider, Princess Rapunzel, Maui, Queen Moana Waialiki, Hiccup Haddock, Princess Mérida, Kristoff Bjorgman, Queen Anna, Jack Frost, Princess Elsa, Princess Raya, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Anastasia Tremaine and Melody, although in reality, Melody is the first and only that she is not a true Official Disney Princess along with Anastasia Tremaine, because Anastasia Tremaine is not born of royalty, while, Melody made her debut in the movie of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea and it is also because she is the first and only daughter of an Official Disney Princess, but Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Dragon, Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws, Perrito, Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany, King Artie, Princess Guinevere, the children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle, and Felicia, the children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and the others also need Anastasia Tremaine and Melody's help to protect and save their kingdom called Far Far Away away from Rumpelstiltskin, Death and the other Official Villains of Disney and DreamWorks, because Anastasia Tremaine is now a good person, while, Melody is the daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, but in the Shrek 5 movie, I also want to see the death of Queen Lillian, because since her husband named King Harold passed away in the Shrek 3 movie, she has felt heartbroken and that caused his own death in his kingdom called Far Far Away, and all the inhabitants of Princess Fiona and King Artie's kingdom called Far Far Away are saddened by the death of Queen Lillian, because now she is with her husband named King Harold in heaven, and now they have lost their queen, that means now the kingdom of Far Far Away needs a new queen and King Artie said that his love interest, girlfriend, fiancée and former classmate from Worcestershire school called Princess Guinevere would be the one to be the new Queen of Far Far Away, so King Artie decided to return to his old school called Worcestershire along with Shrek, with his older cousin Princess Fiona, with Donkey, with Dragon, with Puss in Boots, with Kitty Softpaws, with Perrito, with the children of Shrek and Princess Fiona: Fergus, Farkle and Felicia, with the children of Donkey and Dragon: Bananas, Parfait, Peanut, Eclair, Coco and Debbie and with the others to meet again with their friends from their school who are actually Prince Lancelot, Princess Tiffany and their love interest, girlfriend and fiancée Princess Guinevere to take them back to their kingdom called Far Far Away, and in the Shrek 5 movie, I also want to see the romance of all the Official Disney Princes and Princesses from their respective movies, especially the romance of Maui and Queen Moana Waialiki, the romance of Hiccup Haddock and Princess Mérida, the romance of Jack Frost and Princess Elsa, the romance of Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany and the romance of King Artie and Princess Guinevere, because I think in the Shrek 5 movie, Maui will be Queen Moana Waialiki's love interest, boyfriend and fiancé, while Hiccup Haddock will be Princess Mérida's love interest and boyfriend, Princess Tiffany will be Prince Lancelot's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée and Princess Guinevere will be King Artie's love interest, girlfriend and fiancée, because Queen Moana Waialiki is going to fall in love with Maui, Princess Mérida is going to fall in love Hiccup Haddock, Princess Tiffany is going to fall in love with Prince Lancelot and Princess Guinevere is going to fall in love with King Artie, but they don't know how to tell them their feelings towards them and neither how to win their hearts, because every time Queen Moana Waialiki gets too close to Maui when it comes to true love, she gets very nervous with him, while which in the case of Princess Mérida is also the same, because whenever Princess Mérida gets too close to Hiccup Haddock when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous with him, in the case of Princess Tiffany it is also the same, because whenever Princess Tiffany gets too close to Prince Lancelot when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, and in the case of Princess Guinevere too, because every time Princess Guinevere gets too close to King Artie when it comes to true love, she also gets very nervous around him, but luckily for them, Princess Fiona will help Queen Moana Waialiki to win the heart of Maui, also Princess Mérida to win the heart of Hiccup Haddock, also Princess Tiffany to win the heart of Prince Lancelot and also Princess Guinevere to win the heart of King Artie, and I also want that in the Shrek movie 5, Jack Frost will be Princess Elsa's love interest and boyfriend, because Jack Frost leaves fall in love with Princess Elsa, but he doesn't know how to tell her his feelings and how to win her heart, because every time Jack Frost gets too close to Princess Elsa when it comes to true love, he gets very nervous with her, but fortunately for him, Shrek will help Jack Frost to win the heart of Princess Elsa, except Princess Raya and Princess Mirabel Madrigal, because now they will be the only Official Disney Princesses who do not need to have love interests and who can remain single forever, and I also say the same for Melody, the daughter of Prince Eric and Princess Ariel, because like Princess Raya and Princess Mirabel Madrigal, she doesn't need a love interest either, but in the Shrek 5 movie, I also want to see the rivalry between King Artie and Queen Anna because they both want to compete in a challenge to see who is the best monarch a of a kingdom, that is, the best ruler of a kingdom, because both want to do what is best for their own kingdom, because King Artie wants to do what is best for his kingdom called Far Far Away because now he is the new King of Far Far Away and Queen Anna wants to do the best for their kingdom called Arendelle because now she is the new Queen of Arendelle, but at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, King Artie and Queen Anna become best friends in the world, because at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, they both learned from their mistakes that they have made since their challenge to compete to see who is the best monarch of a kingdom, that is, the best ruler of a kingdom, and that at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, King Artie and Princess Guinevere see their first true love kiss and that they become a romantic couple, just like Prince Lancelot and Princess Tiffany, and also that at the end of the Shrek 5 movie, Maui, Hiccup Haddock, Kristoff Bjorgman, Jack Frost, Prince Lancelot and King Artie become the new official members of the Official Disney Princes, while Queen Anna, Princess Elsa, Princess Mirabel Madrigal, Princess Tiffany and Princess Guinevere become the new official members of the Official Disney Princesses and that one day, Princess Tiffany will be the wife of Prince Lancelot and that they have a son and a daughter, that is, a family in the future, and that also Princess Guinevere is the wife of King Artie, that they also have a son and a daughter, that is, a family and that she becomes the new Queen of Far Far Away in the future.

OG Malificient was so great than the remake, and three fairies were better too, they weren't bumbling idiots like in the remake.
She's the best
Another great video!! Let's goo

I never saw Sleeping Beauty 1959.

I Kinda miss the Old Maleficent.
Well, John Ratcliffe in Pocahontas also called the Indians' skins HELLISH red.
Oh I agree with you maleficent is one of my favorite villains I love her design as well to me in my opinion she better looking than the queen from the Snow White only my opinion no disrespect to the original animated movie no doubt I just love maleficent no never liked the remake never saw it don’t want to animation all the way for me
she was also the boss i died to the most in kingdom hearts. ugh
I’d LOVE if you could do Oogie Boogie next, I’m sorry of you’re annoyed by recommendations but he’s my second favorite villain.
Well the same can more or less be said about Jack Horner from Puss in Boots
There are two main reasons anyways besides why Maleficent´s role was done that way on the live-action movies than other way possible:
Hence the word malice
maleficent was a great baddie I agree. but her new movies that paint her as an antihero I think she needed as a character.

The Disney villains should have been the only ones to get love actions…. At the box office they just dominate….cruella was amazing, maleficent….
My my my
In Medieval time , Royal christening of babies considered as social event not a private event , So it isnt Surprising Maleficent get mad and petty when didn't invited

Too bad there are no costumes of her dragon form for adults. Because I'd love to wear it.
