you can omit the baking soda. the clay can do the job at getting the plaque off on its own. Regular toothpaste foams because they use Sodium Laurel Sulfates. Those are not good for your gums and cause mouth soars.. the foaming part of toothpaste isn't necessary for our teeth in any way. I add unrefined Coconut oil to mine just to make it a paste and it actually thickens a bit while brushing so it kinda feels like it's getting foamy. plus coconut oil is great for teeth and gums!
@tatulover01 You can mix vegetable glycerin and aloe gel with the powder to make a nice paste. Just keep adding until you reach your desired consistency. Thanks for the great question! ~Erin
My dad is to Practice ancient medicine. He new how to cure many illnesses. He made powder out of cinnamon bark clove powder, mint dried leaves, baking powder and rose petals in a dry foam. He made every week.we got our fluoride from water. We all got beautiful teeth and no mouth Oder.Good luck if you want to make this powder.❤

I used this powder for a year, and it was too abrasive. I ended up at the dentist with worn down enamel! This is great, for maybe a weekly brush, but I don't think a daily polish is a good idea. Just wanted to pass my experience along!
That is what I heard too, that baking soda, salt, etc, are rather abrasive for the teeth but I wasn't sure whether to believe it, so I've been hesitant to brush with it. I am glad you shared your experience.
Hi there~Thank you for your question, but I need just a little clarification~Are you wondering if you can use porcelain as an ingredient in the tooth powder or as a container? ~Kori
THANK YOU FOR THIS GREAT VIDEO, I HAD BEING LOKING FOR WHITE CLAY HERE IN PUERTO RICO, BUT A GAVE UP. CAN I SUBSTITUTE THE CLAY FOR ANOTHER INGREDIENT? I DON'T WANT TO USE COMMERCIAL TOOTHPASTE ANYMORE
@AngelTasha UK Do NOT add water to the toothpowder. Water = bacteria. Even using distilled water it will go moldy in less than a week. Give toothpowder a try and you'll never want toothpaste again. Toothpowder cleans much better than paste and you'll get less tartar build up so teeth stay cleaner longer. It's also more neutral, so you can brush in the morning and go right to breakfast without adding the artificial minty taste to your orange juice and coffee/tea. Good luck! :)
Hi there! Clay could potentially discolor a toothbrush. It would really depend on the toothbrush you are using. I have never had this happen with mine but it does have dark bristles. - Gracie
Regualr toothpaste has always burned my mouth...even my lips and tounge. I tried brushing teeth with Dial soap once and I was surprised that it did not burn as much as the toothpaste. The minty flavors always made me sick. I LOVE to drink coke...but I hate the texture it leaves on my teeth. Traditional toothpaste just gets stuck on it while baking soda removes it. My teeth have never felt clean with regualr toothpaste. Floride is actualy very dangerous.
My recipe is similar except I use the bentonite clay instead. Ive been doing this 9 mos and received awesome feedback from my dentist. He said its working very well for me. Really a-lot less tartar. I can feel this helps lower the bacteria. I also add clove to mine. Doug and Stacy on YT have a similar version! 😉
I too would like to have a whitening version. I did use homemade toothpaste before but my teeth turned yellowish very quickly and this forced me to use whitener first and then returned to conventional toothpaste.
I tried toothpaste with clay but I found it too abrasive.. it doesn't dissolve even in water (initially I heated with oil) it stayd beetween my teeth and gums overnight it was burning I don't belive it's too goog using it as well i find the soda now abrasive and I wantbto try brush with oils essentially oils and maybe some spices like ginger still researching
Hey Monika! You may have sensitive gums which may not tolerate this recipe well. I'm sorry it didn't work for you, I hope you find a recipe that suits your needs . Best of luck you!
Mountain Rose Herbs hi nice you replayed. Acctually tried again recently and it was okay although doenst dialve fully by any chance I used kaolin fine clay. I stopped using again I like the taste but caly stays coarse and take a many times to swish mouth to remove it and I worry coal acctually cause damage to enamel as there is the coarsnes after brush, do you manage to get clay super fine or if not how do you put up with this coarse consistency of the paste?
I just dont see anyone complainig about it or giving any warning I would love to use clay as gives noce consistency and gentle clean(second time I used) but the coarsnes caused me to put away again
@Monika Krolik Have a look at this video - this could be a better clay as its ground super fine and specially filtered to separate the fine clay from other particles you don't want. m.ua-cam.com/video/imZgVY420YM/v-deo.html Good luck! Don't give up. If clay doesn't work for you, maybe try using calcium carbonate as a base and make your own toothpowder. That's what I do, but I'm going to try the green clay too just to see if I like it better.

The baking soda is for the high PH, not the foam
I use baking soda, bentonite clay, sea salt, and then wet it all down with clove/cinnamon tea(using distilled water) mix and put in mason jar... :)

I always use bentonite clay in mine instead of cosmetic clay. Thanks for the video!
can you use coconut oil
always buy in Mountain rose herbs and their products are of excellent quality

I have this same question - Can the kaolin clay be substituted with bentonite?
I can I substitute the Kaolin Clay with Bentonite clay? Will the Essential oil activate the clay?
What is the difference or benefits between using the clays vs. just herbs for making a tooth powder?
Yay! I ought to look into making this for myself. Would it be cheaper than buying toothpaste from the store?
What do I do about bad breath? I can't use traditional tooth pastes and mouth washes because of the mint flavoring.
can i use benzonite clay + baking soda + coconut butter + sea salt tooth paste
+vishwa gupta, coconutbutter vishwa gupta? In what measure do you use your recipe? Also made a powder toothpaste? Thanks.
that's what i use. Calcium bentonite, not sodium.
Thank You can't wait to try it!
Do you think maybe I could mix this with honey to sweeten and because it's antibacterial? Or would that defeat the purpose because it's a sugar?
THANK YOU FOR THIS GREAT VIDEO, I HAD BEING LOKING FOR WHITE CLAY HERE IN PUERTO RICO, BUT A GAVE UP. CAN I SUBSTITUTE THE CLAY FOR ANOTHER INGREDIENT? I DON'T WANT TO USE COMMERCIAL TOOTHPASTE ANYMORE
Is this good for sensitive teeth???? I would love to try this....Thank you :)
it seems easier to make than buy it!! i suppose if you want to make a paste you add water right??

Can we use the use Clay in Cosmetic form?! I thought it was only food-grade?..
Should a pregnant/nursing woman omit the sage?
If I veg glycerin to this recipe, how long will it hold?
I once put cinnamon in my tooth powder and it discolored my toothbrush. Does clay do that too?

Thanks for sharing 5-8-19
Is there an ingredient you can add to help sensitive teeth? Natural toothpaste/powder that helps sensitive teeth is difficult to find
I'd suggest 1/2 teaspoon of ground fennel seed. It will add taste to the paste too :)
I have very sensitive teeth ans since I started using the powder I have almost No pain :)
Been using baking soda forever and great teeth I have.
could you use porcelain
Thank you 🙏🏽 ☺️

If you wanted to make a whitening version, could we sub for the Fuller's Earth Clay?
I too would like to have a whitening version. I did use homemade toothpaste before but my teeth turned yellowish very quickly and this forced me to use whitener first and then returned to conventional toothpaste.

Sounds abrasive to tooth enamel ??
I'd sooner omit the spearmint essential oil, for pregnany women than the sage, asking your doctor would be best.
sorry but as and ingredient
Please ditch the plastic toothbrush, the bamboo are cheaper, better for the planet, and they help plant trees
