    My career was in Dental and Oral Surgery Assisting. I used to believe fluoride was helping, like so many still do. Now that I know better, I've done all I can to make sure my family and friends don't consume ANY, and I feel bad to have administered it to so many kids. God Bless you Heidi for sharing your knowledge with those that want to learn. 🙏

      Funny enough I used to get cavities and bad breath when using conventional toothpaste. Once I switched to fluoride free, bam 💥 fixed, gums are healthier, teeth are stronger, no more cavities. I feel so cheated by my dentists that used to tell me off for not flossing etc. when I was the only one in my family that did and still do. Started me on my journey for herbal remedies on everything.

      Haha! Yep, the main reason of making our own was not to save money so much as to get away from fluoride! haha! I do alternate a lot between the powder and the paste, I like them both for various reasons. I do not remember in this old video If I was adding bentonite clay then but that is now a common ingredient in ours

    We've been using baking soda, activated charcoal powder, Himalayan pink salt, black walnut hull powder (for systemic yeast), bentinite clay, and sometimes: ground clove, or ground peppermint herb, or lavender powder.
    I'll have to try some of the ingredients listed here.
    The reason your teeth are healthier after you stop using commercial toothpaste, is because they have glycerine, which coats, and dors not allow the teeth to remineralize.

    I've been using coconut oil, baking soda and peppermint oil for over a year. My dentist complimented my teeth and was surprised I wasn't using store bought toothpaste. Then of course they had to say I wasn't getting any fluoride. Ugh!! I will try your recipe with the calcium and magnesium. Thank you!

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  8 років тому +65

      Ugh is right! However, we have to remember, THAT is what they are taught in dental school, so unless they choose to do their own research, like some dentists have done and then stopped recommending fluoride as a result, they will just keep regurgitating the falsehoods they learned. That is very cool about what they said about your teeth! I haven't been to the dentist in years because I do not see the need any longer - plus, I do not trust them either! haha

    Something that is rarely mentioned with using coconut oil is the fact that this could build up in your drain causing a blockage. Always spit your residue onto a paper towel and discard in garbage can.

      Not taking the time to watch this old video right now but I thought I did mention that I do not spit coconut oil down the drain, I have places outside that I spit it out. A paper towel is a great idea if you are only brushing but if you do like I do and then do an oil pull for another 20 minutes, there ends up being way too much to just spit into a paper towel

    I make my own with coconut oil, activated charcoal (which is super silly to brush your teeth with), stevia, and powdered freeze dried strawberries! If I'm making some just for me, because I took horrible care of my teeth decades ago during a really dark period of life + old cavities from childhood that seem to be getting worse, I will add cinnamon and clove oil for pain (no strawberry powder). If I can grind up eggshells small enough to a powder, I will add those in.
    I will definitely be adding the clay and magnesium, though! I have used clay based toothpaste before and love how it made my teeth feel.

    I have been oil pulling for 4-5 years now, started 7 days/week, now 3 or 4 times a week. My gums and teeth are in much better condition than before; dental cleanings are done in less than half the time than before; after rinsing for 20 min with coconut oil, spit in garbage and rinse a moment with warm salt water then plain water just to get everything out of your mouth; You need to do the coconut oil pulling as soon as you get up in a.m. before eating or drinking; I prefer to melt the coconut oil before I use it but some people use it solid and it melts in your mouth ( Its important to use virgin cold pressed organic coconut oil) Since I started doing this, I never get sick with flus and colds. It removes bacteria from your mouth and pulls toxins out as well.

    • @RainCountryHomestead

      I agree, I do not remember what I said in this old video but I rarely brush with the powder anymore, I start by brushing with the unrefined coconut oil for a few minutes, then simply remove the toothbrush and swish for at least 20 minutes while doing chores and I spit it outside. I think using coconut oil to clean with is the best way personally and same with me, I think the last time I got sick was years ago from a dance student who had just had the flu shot and it was also during the time I had just weaned myself off my thyroid medication so my immunities were down for a time until my body healed itself from that big pharma garbage

    And remember when brushing with coconut oil, don't spit it in the sink. Spit it in a compost or garbage because in the cold pipes, the coconut oil will harden and clog. Even if you run hot water for awhile, it will get cold further down the pipe and harden again.

      I had just heard that the charcoal helps whiten teeth more but I didn't see it and like what I am using. Isn't it amazing how well oil pulling on its own cleans the teeth?! I put that clay in my tooth powder - with the egg shells and ground up herbs and turmeric and such. I quit making it because it totally dried up my mouth. Haha - I didn't know you had to add water to the clay. I've never added baking soda but I do add xylitol because I had some and had no other use for it.
