  • In today's video, Kirby reviews Jean Rousseau's watch strap quick release mechanism that literally allows you to change our your watch straps in seconds! Kirby has this mechanism on all of his leather watch straps, allowing him to easily and quickly swap out watch straps to match the outfit he is wearing for that day.
    When it comes to investing in a fine timepiece, you want to get as much wear out of it as possible. One of the ways to do this is with multiple watch straps. Almost like a tie to a suit, simply changing out a watch strap can completely alter the look of a watch. It is one of the easiest way to give a fine timepiece "multiple personalities."
    Take a look and let me know what watch straps you would have made for your watch if they were this easy to switch out?

    Another great video Kirby. Nice collection of straps. You are right that it’s a great way to change the look of your watch for much less than purchasing another watch. I’ll say my favorite is actually the navy blue strap, but that opinion may be influenced by your sport coat in the video as I thought the navy strap went best with it. As for another strap, I’ll say go with a burgundy or oxblood as I think that would pair with a lot of your shoes.

    I love the green strap. I have a charcoal grey pinstripe suit. I wear it with a pale green shirt and a green and black tie and pocket square. I recently purchased a watch with a green face to go with the outfit.
    I'm now considering buying a green strap.

    Have a custom made RGM watch with a black hand turned dial that I rotate between two Jean Rousseau custom alligator watch straps in red and black. Quick release of course. Even more important is a deployment clasp rather than a pin bucket. Easier to put on and less likely to drop putting it on. Elegant an conversation starting. Nice video.

    Another day over 30 degrees celsius and 70% humidity here where I live in Australia. If you want to preserve the original leather straps on your expensive watches, you have no choice but to buy after market straps or you"ll sweat through them too quickly. I'm a bit of a strap junkie with multiple strap choices for all my watches. Don't own a Jean Rousseau, I"ll have to check them out.

  • @Nefville

    A few years back I contacted Jean Rousseau to commission a strap and they never contacted me back. It was very simple, it was basically an FP Journe grey alligator strap, *alligator on both the top and bottom. I was expecting to pay around $700, and multiple times after reaching out I heard nothing. Maybe they've gotten better but I will say I haven't forgotten it.

    Here's your cheat code to strap orientation: Buckle up. Really easy to remember it. To be even more specific, the section of the strap with the buckle goes on the lugs at 12 position.

    • @congamonty
      @congamonty 5 місяців тому

      Not necessarily. For instance, my Seiko Presage watches are the opposite. It seems that the Japanese consider it impolite to show the strap end on the outside of the wrist. I find that I like that orientation better myself, and have swapped the strap orientation on several of my watches.

    • @kirbyallison
      @kirbyallison  5 місяців тому +2

      To get this right, I normally only disconnect one side at a time

    • @jmartin2778
      @jmartin2778 5 місяців тому

      @@kirbyallisonI noticed that method, hence my comment. Like you, I struggled to remember the strap orientation and also like you I only buy quick release straps for my PP Sector dial. I purchased croc, shell cordovan, suede, etc., in many colors. I almost never were the PP OEM strap to protect it in case I ever sell the watch. At any rate, thanks for the many years of QCT.

    I'm confused. You said that the watch was a birthday gift from your wife, but a few moments later you say "I was able to acquire this for a fraction of what a new watch would cost new." Do you buy your own birthday gifts? Can we really believe anything about the fantasy image of yourself that you have created.
