I'm glad they are sticking with that design. It's pretty great, and it's not necessary to reinvent the wheel every generation. I mean, just look at how the Wiiu turned out lol
This means nothing, this could be just a prototype delivered to some accessory manufacturer that doesn’t necessarily reflect the final product or even spec design.

They don't care, it's better some stuff leaked that doesn''t evne look real to general audiences than rushing a reveal to satisfy the "ravenous fanbase" like they did with Gamecube and Wii U and then failed.
Update: "The Leaked Switch 2 Images Seem to be Fake and from a Chinese 'Design Enthusiast' who has Now Deleted the Images" "the source appears to be a Chinese 3D printing and "reverse design" enthusiast".
Leaks will happen regardless, having a lot of footage and marketing never stops games from getting leaked before release or breaking street dates, people will always want more information Also it's ironic to complain about this because usually people complain about Nintendo showing way too much of upcoming games before release, I remember Xenoblade 3 having some massive story trailers that bothered some people
I was hoping for better ergonomics on the new system. It looks like I'll still need to get some sort of case to make this thing comfortable to use in handheld for any length of time. Pretty disappointed that they've chosen to leave out a D-pad for handheld mode again as well. That can be fixed with 3rd party Joycon shells or even a plastic piece that adheres to the directional buttons with something like what Skull & Co did with their TotK NeoGrip.
Looking at how much bigger this is, it could very well have a 1080p display. I've been thinking it'll be at least $399, but they could launch it at $499.
I can't imagine that magnets would be used to connect the joy cons to the console. Hopefully, the reference to magnets on the joy cons implies that the control sticks are the more reliable magnetic type.
The SteamDeck also has a battery life of 45 minutes when making use of that PS4 level of power. I play my Steam Deck games at much lower settings so I don't relive the Game Gear days by playing by a wall outlet.
@@ScarlettVixenRomHacks I love my Deck and I never had a situation where my Deck at 100% battery lasted only 45 minutes, I think it usually gets around 1 and a half hour so around 90 minutes plus or minus. But if you play less intensive games or you lock your frame rate is around 3-4 hours. I don't expect the Switch 2 to have a huge battery life, sadly battery technology is lacking behind but I also don't think is a huge issue like some people believe it is, I also have a power bank to help me out if I travel long distances, I have the Anker 737 highly recommend it! I think if Nintendo can do a Switch 2 with PS4 or PS4 PRO performance with around 2-5 hours of bettery life (depending on the game) price it around 300-500 and have backwards compatibility it will definitely be another big hit like the Switch is right now.

What I think the second USB-C could be used for is any number of new periperhals, thinking long-terms that could extend its uses. The system banked off the idea of being able to play games so many different ways. Handheld, tabletop, motion controls, touch screen, docked, whatever. Imagine this idea now extends to Nintendo and third parties developing even more new and inventive ways to play games we haven't even thought of yet. I feel kind of like how they added the IR sensor that could even detect simple shapes but just never got utilized much.
If this is legit it looks like it will be very uncomfortable to play in handheld mode. No ergonomic grips in a much bigger console. Excited but also a bit disappointed in shape and joy con design
@@apebitmusic83 are these compatible with Oled model? I'll keep an eye on some of the alternatives, but at this point i'm kinda just thinking i will ride it out until the Switch 2. I'll be buying at launch and doubt these would be compatible.
yeah, the best portables were Gameboys, gbas, DS's and 3DS's. Switch's power is so much better, but with it it's really not that portable, it gets my hands after a while too. Bc of that, I prefer setting switch up in tabletop mode, and playing with detached joycons or pro controller. That experience is pretty good, albeit then the screen could stand to be bigger. It's hard to blend portable and TV, for what it's worth, Switch is a pretty good form factor. I mainly play TV these days when I do play, but I really love the option of being able to take it on the go
@@rotciv557 I think they can work around it. They could program the Joy con to ask what direction it's being held for use then the pad would correspond with the direction so it could still operate properly when it comes to directional use
John, this episode was so good. Ive seen a bunch this mornong across yourube about thos leak, but your computer knowledge was perfect by explaining what we are looking at. Love your work!
I find interesting that the Switch 2 will have a USB-C port on top. This can let Nintendo do some new and even crazy accessories. Imagine if Nintendo decides to make a plastic mold similar to a Nintendo 2DS, where you can attatch the Switch 2 on the upper section using the upper USB-C port of the Switch 2, and then attatch a Switch 1 on the lower section, and then you can play games that uses both Nintendo Switch screens at the same time. The ultra dual-screen experience 😅
That looks 100% real... And also looks 98% the same thing as Switch 1, so no weird new gimmick this time. For me not being a Nintendo fan, the most exiting thing about this console is the fact it has physical media, so first, i will have option to buy physical games for 10 more years, and second, we will have a lot of PS4 games re released with probably more complete version on cart, like RE4 remake with Separate Way, or Elden Ring with Erdtree on it.
Does anyone think it looking so much like a Switch could be a problem for your average consumer? Like, people might believe it's just another type of Switch when they already have one.
Not if they market it right. You don’t see people getting confused about new iPhones that look nearly exactly the same, but that’s because Apple makes it blatantly obvious in their marketing.
4:38 John think that’s the sync button for the new Joycon, it looks the same button as the regular Joycons. Think the middle hole or the square-ish hole looks to be magnetic attachment to the Switch 2.
What’s going on with the bigger capacity Switch cartridges? They were supposed to introduce 64 GB and bigger game cartridges like 2 years ago, but I remember reading that it got delayed for some reason. Has anyone heard about development starting up on these again? Clearly developers will be releasing bigger games on the Switch 2, these 64 GB cartridges will be almost a necessity. Well except for Capcom, who only ever use 8 GB and make us download the rest.
This is exactly what I was hoping for. More of a refresh. I’m also not surprised it’s bigger. You need surface area to transfer heat and have a decent battery.
It's got a bigger screen and keeping the formula of the previous switch. Looks good to me so far except for no proper d-pad. There's always a chance this leak may be fake or unfinished though
HDMI 2.1 can output in 4K 120 Hz. It also says it has 12 GB of RAM which is pretty damn great for a handheld. All in all I'm super psyched to get my own switch too in like 4 years whenever their Zelda special edition drops with the new Zelda game. I also saw a rumor that there's going to be a Mario and final fantasy crossover game which sounds amazing
Yeah, but you cant have basically 2 controllers with a set of "joycons" if one of them its a D-Pad. Imagine having to run and jump in a mario game (or any platformer for that matter) with a Cross instead of 4 separate buttons (one mapped for jumping one for running, for example). I get your comment, but the idea of joycons is having 2 controllers in 1 set.
@@Zidane_Mina I'd be curious to see how many people ACTUALLY use the joycons as Nintendo thinks they do. How many people use a single side as a standalone controller. I'd bet it's a minority of people honestly. I think Nintendo is marketing to a group of people who doesn't/barely exist. I think most people would rather have proper controls over a gimmick D-Pad. But that's just my opinion, maybe I'm wrong.
@@UnrivaledPiercerIt’s useful for their target market of families since then you can play games with a sibling or friend without having to buy more controllers.
Top charge port is also nice when you’re playing while laying down and charging at the same time. Current setup you have to be careful to not bend your cable too much or risk damaging it and you don’t want to put pressure on the port and break that.
That would be crazy if that was true. There was a theory that Nintendo's media group might've been sending out information in secret to not only identify information leaks in the company, but to also throw off people from their reveals and releases. I wouldn't put it past them. Especially considering ravenous fans going so far as to try and confront them during shareholder calls, people spamming their social media accounts, and people actively trying to hack them just to leak the information.
The grey colour inside the backplate indicates they are using a magnesium alloy subframe for structural rigidity - something I recommended years ago as the previous generation had too much flex and would creak.
apparently i've heard this is pretty much confirmed real but it's not the current actual hardware they will release. it's a prototype from about a year ago
They're gonna announce it around October 20th to align with their original Switch announcement. I suspect we'll see a few games announced but they'll wait for January to reveal extara details on the games, features and the price and launch in March.
I’m so glad Nintendo got screwed over with this leak taking away all the excitement of a reveal. They are waiting for the absolute last minute to show anything and they deserve to get their ass handed to them for trying to treat this product like a state secret. Just tease the console. It’s not hard.
Nothing will ever be like the time Nintendo just posted a picture of Mario coming out of some red blinds completely out of no where and then BAM! The Wii U was finaly dead.
Even phones are coming with 256gb standard, it would be a fucking joke to have 128gb. If this console is pc handheld level, the games will be pc handheld size
I don’t think Nintendo can spend a lot of time discussing the hardware in a reveal here. Basically “It’s Switch but better!” Then we just want to see games.
Second share button does seem kinda silly at first, but when I think about it with their entire approach to how you’re supposed to be able to pop off the joycons to pass them out and play together, it makes reasonable sense to have everyone have a capture button. Not an everyday thing for sure but definitely something I’ve come across. Because of the way they already pair too it seems like it’d be easy to change what it does for each use case, so I’d like to think it also functions as something different with both, but they wanted to keep the design language to be easily recognizable as a capture button for separate use.
@@alex59458Nope. Go back to the beginning. Nintendo to the Super Nintendo. It just reinforces the idea that the Switch is as monumental as the original Nintendo.
@@JL-nb1yc There weren't mid-gen refreshes back then, so everyone knew Super meant it was new. Nowadays it wouldn't work. It wouldn't be as bad as "Wii U" but some people wouldn't get the memo.
I think that “alignment” area one of those holes is more than likely the sync button like on the normal joycon. Because ive noticed due to the joycons shape, there is a bit that raises out that looks like it basically slots in like a cartridge
Nintendo should reveal the Switch 2 already if they don't want people releasing leaks of what it may look like. They are taking too long and people are just going to get even more curious and find out more about it.
Well, we will know if this is real if Nintendo strikes your channel because of this video. Not a very smart move to show the possibly leaked images Jon.
I really hope they have changed the analog sticks to be what is currently being used by 3rd party controllers - Hall Effect sticks to solve that problem. nobody thinks it's called the "switch 2"
An hour before this went live a counter rumor was circulating that a Chinese design enthusiast faked this, and has already deleted the original.
Welp, they had plenty of time to reveal it themselves 🤷♀️
Exactly this
I'm a little disappointed they didn't go with a more radical design.
I prefer to embrace positive change over sticking with the same old design philosophy.
But at least it looks neat. But it's just a rounder OLED with another button and few more ports with pro graphics.
That’s what happens when your fanbase is ravenous for information and you’re too tight-lipped! 🤷♂️
Fans play the software not be on threads speculating the successor without having a foot in the race. Games sell systems not specs majority online don't understand besides the bare necessity.
They don't care, it's better some stuff leaked that doesn''t evne look real to general audiences than rushing a reveal to satisfy the "ravenous fanbase" like they did with Gamecube and Wii U and then failed.
Update: "The Leaked Switch 2 Images Seem to be Fake and from a Chinese 'Design Enthusiast' who has Now Deleted the Images"
"the source appears to be a Chinese 3D printing and "reverse design" enthusiast".
Leaks will happen regardless, having a lot of footage and marketing never stops games from getting leaked before release or breaking street dates, people will always want more information
Also it's ironic to complain about this because usually people complain about Nintendo showing way too much of upcoming games before release, I remember Xenoblade 3 having some massive story trailers that bothered some people
You can't be serious. You just can't be serious.
I was hoping for better ergonomics on the new system. It looks like I'll still need to get some sort of case to make this thing comfortable to use in handheld for any length of time. Pretty disappointed that they've chosen to leave out a D-pad for handheld mode again as well. That can be fixed with 3rd party Joycon shells or even a plastic piece that adheres to the directional buttons with something like what Skull & Co did with their TotK NeoGrip.
satesfye grips gotta be thrilled with this one
Looking at how much bigger this is, it could very well have a 1080p display. I've been thinking it'll be at least $399, but they could launch it at $499.
Don’t worry the scalpers will take care of that. Get ready to spend $1000 from the scalpers
I can't imagine that magnets would be used to connect the joy cons to the console. Hopefully, the reference to magnets on the joy cons implies that the control sticks are the more reliable magnetic type.
They click to the sides via magnets
Gets rid of the awkward wobble
The joy cons have a button you press for them to pop off
I expected around PS4-PS4 PRO performance, because the Steam Deck is around PS4 as well and over 2 years old.
The SteamDeck also has a battery life of 45 minutes when making use of that PS4 level of power. I play my Steam Deck games at much lower settings so I don't relive the Game Gear days by playing by a wall outlet.
APU wise we don't know specs but RAM wise it is actually comparable to the Series S. Slower speed than Series S but more RAM than it.

The square holes on the joycons could be a release button. It might click when the joycons attach.

Excited but also a bit disappointed in shape and joy con design

yeah, the best portables were Gameboys, gbas, DS's and 3DS's.
I mainly play TV these days when I do play, but I really love the option of being able to take it on the go
Wanted them to upgrade the Dpad but it looks pretty much the same as this one.
To what? They need to keep the design for it to also work as a single controller
@@rotciv557I disagree, I've bought joycons that have an actual d-pad and that works just as well for games as 4 separate buttons.
Wait, you're not a Nintendo?? Thank god.
Does anyone think it looking so much like a Switch could be a problem for your average consumer? Like, people might believe it's just another type of Switch when they already have one.
Not if they market it right. You don’t see people getting confused about new iPhones that look nearly exactly the same, but that’s because Apple makes it blatantly obvious in their marketing.
it's the SwitchU
Easy problem to solve. Call it the Switch 2. Done.

And a bigger screen of course

HDMI 2.1 can output in 4K 120 Hz. It also says it has 12 GB of RAM which is pretty damn great for a handheld. Still no actual D-Pad, come on Nintendo! They basically pioneered the D-Pad, made some of the best ones, then forgot..
PLOT TWIST: It's AI generated images put out by Nintendo to throw everyone off.

No, but they could have been 3D printed since the plastic on the console doesn't look right
