I found out how it works so it appears as a short. So you upload it as a video but as an unlisted video. Then when it’s uploaded you can now edit it as a short and publish it
thank you for the explanation! can confirm from my own channel that this is 100% accurate. i just uploaded a 90 sec video a day ago which i intended to be a Short but it’s showing as a regular video my YT Studio, but then when i go into analytics it’s now mainly getting viewed in Shorts ~1 day after posting. i was so lost when it wasn’t a short in yt studio 😬 thanks again!
I have another point that might also be important to look into. When "shorts" were first introduced, they were treated like regular videos, but in the form of shorts. This meant that you got paid more for those videos. In the beginning, you could get about 45 euros for around 30K views on many of those videos. Later, when the payment system was adjusted, you saw that you were paid much less for shorts. What might be interesting to investigate now is whether a "short" video that is longer than 1 minute temporarily falls under regular videos. Since it’s still categorized under regular videos, this would mean you could potentially earn more money. Unfortunately, I am still reviewing the data from my recent videos, so I can’t tell yet if there’s a higher payout. But it is noticeable that shorts that are longer than 1 minute no longer have "shorts" in the video link. Have you noticed that too? This suggests that it may fall under the longer video category for payment, but it is still categorized under the shorts section when you look at the analytics.
My video has now reached 2.6k views and has indeed earned more. While another Short with 18k views earned €1.75, and a different video with 80k views earned €7.15, this video, which is just over a minute long, has already earned €8.27. This revenue comes from "ads on the watch page" and "ads on Shorts."
Your words are Nothing less than blessings of god for me 😊Sir I recently observed this change and got frightened shocked but now I am relaxed. 🙏💐😊but ya my numbers of video moved to shorts and that trimed ✂️ my watchhours. But it's okay 👍 lots of good wishes to you 🙏🙂💐
My "shorts" that are longer than 1 minute have still not been categorized as shorts in UA-cam. Even though they are supposed to be. UA-cam says they will eventually categorize them as shorts, but that was supposed to happen weeks ago and it hasn't yet.
My issue with shorts was when YT first implemented them i just couldn't fit my content into that 60-second time and over time i had to come up with new content to make for shorts, in the last year i have and it has gained me a little more subs when i usually get but still drives me nuts is when i make a short that is 59 seconds and YT will add 2 seconds onto the video and then i have to go back and trim it slightly. On Top of that they marketed 3 Min shorts to make it sound like it was coming on the 15th of October when what they should done was not even announce the date but instead announce the launch date after everything was done on their end, it's wild to me that Tiktok figured this out years ago but UA-cam of all platforms can't oh and don't get me started on the fact we STILL can't pick a frame in the video on desktop.
They also confirmed with me 3 min Shorts will only be available on desktop, not mobile. Mobile are stuck with 60 sec limit. Not sure how that works tho?
This really helped! In deed, one of our long form (non?) shorts which was not on our shorts list was indeed proposed to the audience from the shorts feed (but yes, that's strange).
i published one 3 minute short as an experiment and it got 45k views so around 45 times more than normal and those views did come from the shorts feed even though it shows on my channel as a regular long form video. but the revenue from the video is more like a short. very confusing. thank you for the video!
Hey, I noticed that the first 3 minutes of THIS video would make for a nice short. Me THINKS THIS WAS INTENTIONAL. A 3 minute short whetting the appetite for more knowledge about 3 minute shorts…nice.
How is this going to affect analytics? Both for that specific video, but then overall looking at the whole month of analytics. Will the stats for that specific video fall into a short form or long form? I feel like this could get so messy
I did a test with a longer short as well. I did use a thumbnail. In the first few hours, it was viewed as a long form video initially. Apparently, it got add revenue like a long for video at first. Not the add revenue follows the shorts model. Then, it picked up in the shorts feed. 90 percent of 11,000 views are from the shorts feed. It’s receiving far fewer views from our typical shorts as well. For now, I won’t be publishing any more. I’ll stick with a less that 60 second short or long form until youtube figures this out. If you told us people would re-watch to see how you did it. My friend you need to do another one explicitly describing intentionally using the first 2 or 3 minutes of a video, at the end of a longer 10-12 minute video tell us that is what you just did and tell us to where the short part ended. A bunch of us would rewatch that video to see what you did. More than 100 percent watch time generated. (Or maybe that idea is in the pipeline already?)
Just a dropdown box. "Upload Short" "Upload video". How hard is this UA-cam?! What a mess lol
You know it does say that on the app right ?
seriously…

Can you put Shorts in the description to fix that? Or film the video in Vertical Mode to force it to be seen as a Short?
The videos I'm referring to are both in vertical and have the shorts tag. 😕

That was helpful, thank you!
i hate how the "shorts" overlay clutters up my beautiful videos 🥴🌻
I might just stop notifying my subscribers on new videos altogether and make a post about it.

They should try rollouts that actually work next time. Call me crazy!
Now THAT would be crazy, right?!
Do the watch hours count toward long form for monetization or as a view for shorts?
Hello did you get this answer?
@ nope
@@lisadianaofficial in my monetisation window, these watch hours are being counted🫠
I feel I may just give up youtube...

Just started uploading longer shorts . My last video is being treated as a long form 😅😩

Shorts doesn’t give me watch time, right? Can we stop them from using it as a short?
We can't. Just don't upload in vertical format and it will be a regular video regardless of duration.
OR aside from cross post, youtube needs an excuse to serve adspace
Thanks for these awesome tips
Still waiting for UA-cam to resolve this.
Good good 👍
they stopped showing shorts livestreams completley
AAAAAhhhhh! Now I don't see it.
youtube coverted ALL my videos to shorts yesterday 11/10/24. i was 50/50 before yesterday.
That's great, if you upload videos that are vertical. The videos I make, are horizontal.
Currently rocking a 7% total watch time on shorts...think I'll float with a life jacket on in the 60sec limit for another year......🤣
That's horrible. You need to watch Jenny Hoyos advice on Shorts
My app wont creat a short over 60's long....
Doesn’t work that way yet. Upload as long form and UA-cam will transfer it to shorts as soon as they finish their soft rollout.
Hope we all make it to 1K soon
Shorts helped my channel but I don't really think I will upload 3 min shorts
you don't have to use the full 3 mins, i just wanna be able to upload shorts that are 1.10 or 1.30, 1 min is too short.
Where the watch hours counted?
This update is stupid.Even when I don't want to make it a short it just makes it a short and it's so annoying and I hate it.
same
Learning new skills. I have 492 subscribers now, hope that I can reach 1k soon!
