    If you're looking for more evidence of how the algorithm isn't straight-forward at all, this is the story of how a channel went from *0 to 10k* subs with just TWO videos: ua-cam.com/video/ldHqJETQFjw/v-deo.html

      If I make a video about Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo or Andrew Tate, it's guaranteed to get at least 500 views. Even if the video is terrible quality and not put together nicely.
      But when I make a high quality video about a Bluetooth speaker company no one has ever heard of? Crickets.

      VID IQ. Hi great informative content. I jave just started a youtube channel. For some reason i want to shutdown that channel and start a new one but i want to just transfer the videos from my old channel to my new channel. If i do that will youtube think that am jist copying that youtube channel by posting the same things. Although in reality am not copying because they are my videos. So how does it work. Should I just go on

    I’ve realized that consistency and learning from analytics are key. Instead of getting discouraged, I treat every video as a chance to improve and connect with my audience. It’s all about the long game-building a community rather than chasing viral hits. Shoutout to everyone out here grinding; we’ll get there together! 🚀

      This is so true. I have seen major improvements in my content, from trying new things, looking at comments, and just experience overall and it has majorly benefitted my channel. It might be a slow grind, but progress will compound and you will see new results if you stick to your guns, and step out of your comfort zone once in a while

    It must be so stressful for people that do this full time. UA-cam are the equivalent of 'we want you to learn on the job, do it free for multiple years first' but you'll effectively need to figure out how to do the job well, because we won't ever reveal the special Big Mac sauce to you. Now imagine having to contend with that pay cheque to pay cheque.

      That's why you aren't supposed to wake up one day and list your employment as "UA-camr" and so many people ship it as a hobby until it's more than that. Don't quit your day job ESPECIALLY if you've done it for more then 6 months you're likely of the MANY that will never take off. Scrap that channel and make a new one to try again.

    • @EternalBacklog
      @EternalBacklog Місяць тому

      @ambeegaming76 Місяць тому

      @@EternalBacklog If you read comments enough most channels that DO take off WILL take off within 6 months scraping one that isn't working will likely have given you enough time to evolve your style of titles and thumbnails, UA-cam remembers all those videos it tried to bring to people but that no one clicked on them or the click out rate was high. I've done this twice once with a Budget tracking channel and again with a Polymer clay channel they weren't doing well at all to I took it all down deleted those accounts and I rebooted them after a real think and cohesive rebrand they did much better.

    You know why I absolutely despise the algorithm? In some ways it feels rigged. You can upload real high quality content you spent hours at a time working on, and it’s absolutely a fine piece of art by the end of the process, and yet the algorithm will have the balls to sweep it under the rug as if it’s nothing, meanwhile it’s promotion clickbait, spam, and other crap that is ruining the platform. Thanks for nothing…

    I think some topics tend to be more popular and therefore, channels in such a niche grow faster. For example, finances (everyone wants money), and youtube growth (all channels want to learn more about the algorithm), technology, etc. Those of us in other niches should accept the idea that we might take longer to grow.

      I absolutely agree. Since I started my channel, I always see so many videos about how to grow a channel. Like, is that all UA-cam is evolving into? I'd say videos that play into your insecurities do best on the platform - UA-cam growth plays into the insecurities of small creators frustrated about slow growth, finances is obvious, manosphere channels play into the vulnerabilities of lonely and desperate men/boys, documentary channels are always talking about everything wrong with society and never talk about the positives. You see the trend? Negativity sells.

    The best thing to do is to adapt to statistics. This probably sounds confusing, here's an example: you published a Shorts. It's 40 seconds long, but according to the viewing duration statistics, the viewer gets bored after 30 seconds and scrolls to the next video without watching yours to the end. What to do? You just need to try to shorten the video to 30 seconds, if the viewing duration hasn't dropped, then there's a better chance that the video will become more popular.

    Problem is after UA-cam sends out my videos around 1k - 2k times it’s completely kills it and stops sending them out. I have made 40 minutes to a hour long, and all the way down to 5 minutes. Tried simple thumbnails and more detailed ones. And no matter what title I use it doesn’t matter. 1 to 2k and it kills the video and stops sending it out. Even if I have 50 to 60% viewers retention with 8% click rate for the whole video. Bottom line is, UA-cam can send your videos out as much or as little as it wants and it just doesn’t favor small channels.
    If you use the search bar for a video and and put your video title, how far do you have to scroll before your video pops ups.
    UA-cam is so saturated with content your videos get lost in the wash unless UA-cam throws out your videos on peoples home page and hopefully they like the thumbnail enough to click.

    The algorithm is a computer program and it is not personal. Beyond that, I have no idea how it works. I do know that I scheduled a video for yesterday about overcoming procrastination and started seeing tons of videos about beating procrastination on my homepage. It's not the first time this has happened either. When I scheduled my first video, I then saw tons of videos called "My First Video" and UA-cam over 40/50 etc. before the video even went live.

    What I don't understand is that when a vid of mine finally hit all the benchmarks we assume youtube values (CTR, Retention, AND it's an outlier for sub/view ratio and like/view ratio), I STILL don't see any boost in traffic. In fact, it UNDERperforms, being given WAY fewer impressions than normal. Why? It's like...I've won the primaries. Time to graduate to the bigger arena. But they hold me back. Just...why?
    And then they'll take a totally random video of mine, throw it to tens of thousands of people (making it my most popular video) and then STOP completely for no discernible reason. Again...why? So annoying. But, I still go on.

      yep, & s3x. I used to follow a lot of conspiracy doom content..I soon realised the BS but I still get shown such videos.. they do so well.. that & self help. I dont think there is a magick trick that will make a channel successful. Its not even a case of if people will find you relatable because, as an example, since Ive changed tac with what I talk about, the algorithm has no idea where to place my videos lol.. my retention has increased but watch time has decreased. Im back to it being a hobby.. I fell into the trap of consuming all I could on how to grown a channel to fast realise the only people really benefitting were those advising how to grow a channel.. I have the vidIQ app and wont be renewing my sub.. it offers me click baity titles which I cant abide by and some of my best performing CTR thumbnails got really low scores in their app.. so I am doing what I want to do with titles & thumbnails, Ive stopped trying to read from a script which frankly made me look and feel awkward I actually came to dread doing a video.. it took all the fun and creative process out of why I started a channel in the 1st place

    As a 'relatively' new channel, I can say, it does take its time, but it did not take long to get my first loyal subscribers who are watching all of my videos and commenting regularly (not on every video, but very often). And by just doing what I am doing (i.e. making stuff), more and more are coming - and I can see this in the YT studio (new viewers), it does take time, but it is worth it.
    It is discouraging when a video does not perform well, but the important thing is to just keep doing, there will be one that will work.

      I just made a chrome extension called Watch Link that might make UA-cam more interesting.
      When you're watching a UA-cam video, the Chrome extension looks at the current video URL. It then checks a database where users have shared recommended videos related to that specific page. So if you're watching a cooking tutorial about pasta, the extension will show you what other viewers have recommended as similar or interesting videos about cooking or pasta. Users can add/edit/delete their own recommendations up to 10, and you can see suggestions from other people who've watched the same content. It basically turns UA-cam recommendations from an algorithm-driven experience into a more community-driven discovery process.

I'm a music ranker and I'm very happy and appreciative that my channel itself has improved alot by doing that and especially uploading YT shorts, I believe YT shorts give you a decent amount of subscribers boosting depending on how much your audeince likes it, I have been also trying hit 2k subscribers before this year ends so I really doubt if that is possible or not, but only time can tell. As a computer developer, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW HOW AN ALGORITHM WORKS. Not even the creator of the algorithm can know it. Developer gives an objective to a machine learning model and train it, the model go through every possible path to complete the objective. And even the creator can’t precisely predict which path it chose. Also algorithm constantly changes path to increase accuracy. So it is wast to time to crack the algorithm. Better if you learn human philosophy and make videos that will people like. 👍

    I feel like I see this in my Impressions analytics. For my most recent videos, I’ve gotten an impressions push early on (in the first day or so), and by my own channel's standards, if I get enough views, it seems to push a little harder (although my CTR always plummets to less than 1% when this happens). If I'm "lucky", this seems to happen again where I get another small impressions push. After that, the video seems to die down and then sometimes, it will just be a small steady stream of impressions until it fizzles out completely, usually within a couple weeks.
    What is most fascinating to me is that the amount and timing of when the impression push happens never seems to be the same across my videos. I just wish I could figure out a better way to interpret all this to do better each time, but it’s not always clear!

    By forcing an user to sign in, not only it allows Google to build profile but it also helps sell that profile to advertisers. Its a win win for Google and for the channels because the more people are watching more content tailored to them, more channels are attracting more audience that love their channel and more advertisers are hitting their target audience and therefore willing to pay more which in return means more money for Google and the channels.

    I think the algorithm is interesting and it doesn't always work the same way. Cases in point, I have two videos that have worked in completely different ways. The first one ("Alternate Realities: World War One") didn't have some massive leap - it has just been a straight gradient from day one. It has, over the current 85 day period, had a steady 60 views every 24 hours (plus or minus 10 views). You can place a ruler on the graph and it doesn't deviate. My most recent video ("AI Nightmares") had a massive leap after the first day of doing nothing. I was getting 80 views an hour. Then, like so many of my other videos, it suddenly went flat. It would be interesting to know why this behaviour exists.

    Viewership count can vary greatly based on different topics or niche. I also think there is a fair amount of human manual intervention to push or supress a video or channel.
    All that you need to do is look at the ratio of video views to subs. It used to be close to 50% or more (meaning that if you had 10,000 subs you could expect 5,000+ views on a given video) just 1-2 years ago. But now if you look at the ratios it's about 5%-10% views to subs or occassional 20% views to subs. We can argue that there are more channels and more videos, but that would not explain some big channels still around today that put out daily content and getting only a fraction of the views.

    I don’t think you got one thing right. What I see with the videos recommended to me is that this algorithm thing has zero clues as to what I want to watch. For instance it’s constantly trying to push foreign videos from Arabic regions in Russian regions, both of which I will never watch, but it constantly keeps pushing them to me. It also constantly pushes Spanish videos of which I will never watch. Even though I watch very specific types of videos on UA-cam, it will often not even recommend anything close to what I like to watch. Despite my UA-cam account having been open for over a decade, it has no clue what I want to watch.
