WWF Wrestlemania Challenge (NES) Playthrough

- A playthrough of LJN's 1990 license-based wrestling game for the NES, WWF Wrestlemania Challenge.
This video shows all of the single-player modes:
0:55 1 Vs 8 Super Challenge mode played as "Yourself"
10:15 2 Vs 2 Tag Match played as The Ultimate Warriors and Hacksaw Jim Duggan
12:11 3 Vs 3 Survivor Series played as Big Boss Man, Macho King Randy Savage, and Hulk Hogan
WWF Wrestlemania Challenge is the second wrestling game produced for LJN by Rare and the direct follow-up to 1989's WWF Wrestlemania ( • WWF Wrestlemania (NES)... ).
A lot of people, including me, have fond memories of the first NES Wrestlemania, but it's no secret that the game was more than a little rough around the edges. Thankfully, Rare was quick to turn things around for this amped-up sequel.
WWF Wrestlemania Challenge overhauls every aspect of the original game. The controls are better laid out and far more intuitive, the isometric perspective and smaller character sprites make the ring feel less claustrophobic, and the music improves on the already excellent tunes of the first game.
And that's before we get to the excellent roster. Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Big Boss Man, "Ravishing" Rick Rude, "Macho King" Randy Savage, Andre the Giant, The Ultimate Warrior, and the inimitable Hulk Hogan are all playable across a range of gameplay modes, including championship ladders, tag-team match-ups, and 3v3 survivor matches, and each wrestler gets his own special move.
The speed of the game and the controls take some getting used to thanks to the shift in perspective, and the roster would've benefitted from the inclusion of a few more wrestlers, but WWF Wrestlemania Challenge feels like a game with a lot more effort and refinement poured into it than its predecessor. It may not be the top wrestling game on the NES, but it is a very good one, and it's easily the best to bear the WWF license.

NintendoComplete (www.nintendocom...) punches you in the face with in-depth reviews, screenshot archives, and music from classic 8-bit NES games!
WWF Wrestlemania Challenge is such a massive improvement over the original game!
After this game, development switched to Sculptured Software/Acclaim Studios Salt Lake City, until THQ acquired the WWE license from Acclaim in 1999.
And quite an achievement cosnidering it's from LJN!
I did like the first one's soundtrack, though. 8bit remix of entrance songs. The gameplay of this one is better.
@@ElephantMariotheRHDNhater3293 It's actually from Rareware
True, but that's not saying much. WCW's game is better than this one. Tecmo World Wrestling is the best wrestling game on NES.
RIP to the following WWE legends
“Ravishing” Rick Rude
Big Boss Man
The Ultimate Warrior
Andre The Giant
And “Macho King” Randy Savage
Yourself is immortal then.
Love the 8 bit sounds of the wrestlers themes
They were all arranged by David Wise, who was no Jim Johnston.
i still love the detail and perspective you give for each game in your video descriptions.
Thanks! 😊
as do i. his reviews are always so extremely well thought-out and beautifully constructed.
Bossman walking over like Alright son
That moment you know its Wrestlemania season when you see a notification saying a playthrough of wrestling games come in like Hulkamania running wild, brother!
14:04: “The irresistible force meeting the immovable object.”-Gorilla Monsoon.
Probably the most exciting Christmas gift I ever received. Endless hours playing this with my brother, to the point where we had discovered a glitch that could occur based on some combination of keys and flying off the turnbuckle that would cause one player to no-clip and be able to free roam around the map. Never could replicate that glitch in present day because I don't really remember how we did it.
When Jim Dugen charged NC and he immediately jumped out the ring, I laughed.
I remember talking about this game with a couple of friends of mine. We were all like "Wait, THIS was LJN? But it's so good!" Not to mention it was one of the few wrestling games where the manual actually tells you how to try to kick out if you're pinned.
This transported me back to the early 90s in my friend's bedroom sitting on his carpet in front of a portable Crt tv playing this game snakes revenge and mega man for many hours 😂❤
This was my first wrestling game for anybody that started here until now we came along way!
AVGN: Trying to hit a guy here is like trying to hit a grain of sand with a tennis racket while Andre the Giant farts directly into your nostrils.
That dude has a serious o-ring fixation.
"Step Into The Ring If Your Tough Enough For This Challenge Oh Yeah!!!
The character select screen music is 🔥
0:07 R.I.P. Ultimate Warrior and 10th death anniversary.
And the spirit of The Ultimate Warrior will run forever!
The way Andre moved out of the way from the top ropes leg drop was wild..lol.😅
Old school Wednesday
This game was awesome
The intro theme still🔥
WWF Legends Challenge 64 No Mercy mod has an excellent remake of the title music.
All 8 of the featured WWF Superstars are in the WWE Hall of Fame.
All but 3 are still among the living, as of March '24.
@moviemetalhead Hulk Hogan, Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Brutus 'The Bareber' Beefcake are still around.
That also include Andre the Giant because he's dead, stupid!
I come here for the music. I love the theme music in this game most of them were done amazingly and it brings back memories.
Ultimate warrior is more intimidating than any final boss Ive seen.
Cocaine is one helluva drug, ain't it?
@@NintendoComplete😂😂😂
Man the memories my first ever wrestling game i got my nes December '89 & this not long after i always pretended the guy was Marty Jannetty because for some reason he was my favourite when i was 7 😂
My brother and I were 8 & 10 when this came out. We pretended the Yourself character was Barry Horowitz 🤣 none of the neighborhood kids wanted to play that character. We wanted to be the WWF superstars.
@@Bhughe4 haha pat on the back for the best jobber there ever was, I think I pretended to be Piper if memory serves me he wasn't there. I literally this moment just bought a WWF Hasbro bundle with all the tag teams together 🤣
Unbelievable!!! So good!!
The 8bit sound design from Rare in the era is outstanding. Snake Rattle and Roll had amazing tracks aswell
Love this game
Und alle unsere Kindheitsträume sind in Erfüllung gegangen. Wir haben uns das als Kinder immer gewünscht so wie heute bei 2K . Der Einmarsch. Mega. Früher standen wir direkt im Ring. Mega
5:12 what athleticism from andre the way he hopped over the top rope with ease
These old licensed wrestling games make me sad, as most of the roster are either no longer with us, or went on to become absolute disgraces.
Hacksaw jim is on the game. A hero who has never disgraced himself
@@syteanric A true rarity.
Like who?
Bruti "the barber" BEEEFFFFFF-CAKE.💪💈
I Want to Play as Hulk Hogan
this legendary character selection sountrack. 0:54
Некоторые музыкалье фрагменты до боли напоминают Battletoads&Double Dragon .
I remember getting this for Christmas 1991, and then watching Kendo Nagasaki play it on the first series of GamesMaster the following year.
I had this and Wrestlemania. I played this one constantly cause..well...wrestlemania sucked ass. This brings back memories of me being 6 years old and gaming in my room. I miss those days.
I always loved it played the theme of who you were wrestling throughout the match
The player select track is the same as Battletoads & Double Dragon on the Genesis
How are you getting your teammates to pick a fight in and out of the ring? Mine always walked back and forth and waited for a tag to swap out.
What a game !!!!
It always ticked me off when I was Andre and Ultimate Warrior threw me out. I COULD NOT figure out how to get Andre back into the ring.
Had this game, loved it. But its flaw was the AI just wanting to walk around instead of fighting. The best was "yourself vs yourself"
In the brief period of my life when I and most other people my age watched professional wrestling, and before I learned the term "jobber", I used to refer to those kinds of wrestlers as "Yourself" much to my own amusement.
4:00 looks like someone doesn't really like Duggan's silly theme 😆
WWF games for the NES were terrible. This one was a slight improvement over it's predecessor, which was released a year earlier, but they were so bland with bad graphics (even for that time) and all the characters had the exact same moves. If you want to see what I mean, play Tecmo World Wrestling which was released in 1989. It was light years ahead of the WWF games and is actually still fun to play to this day. Still one of my favorite games on the NES.
Wrestlemania Challenge is... a game. It's most certainly a game.😂
I always choose Ultimate warrior, coz he's the only one who can easily throw the opponents over the rope
Just bought this complete in box off ebay
Do other people not know the easy way to beat Duggan? Just go to a corner, let him run at you, move, go to the other corner and repeat
Joel perez as ultimate warrior
Weird I remember the 1st game but not this wtf
The Winner is Randy Savage
No rope action? This is pretty disappointing.
I remember i paid 50 dollars for this bullshit
Classic game I had this back in the days.
Good grief the wwf games sucked back then...even during that time. The generic "pro wresting" on the NES was leagues better than this garbage. Smh lol
Pro Wrestling was indeed awesome, but how was it better than this game dude? It's basically the exact same game and gameplay/controls, but at least Wrestlemania Challenge offers a roster of real wrestlers and some tag team action. 🤔
It's another trash from LJN.
Awful game
